Chapter 50

Just like a child unwrapping the gift he's been craving for a long time, Sheldon, with his dexterous fingers, caressed Amy, over the thin fabric of her nightgown.

Sheldon was eager to get rid of that purple nightie, but an unnecessary amount of silk and embellishments kept getting on the way.

"Amy ... this a bit tricky!" Sheldon snorted in frustration. "This a lot of lace for such a short attire".

Amy smiled tenderly, and decided to help Sheldon in his fight with that infuriating nightgown.

After a few attempts to understand the intricate construction of the garment, Sheldon found a way to set Amy free from her clothes.

Amy's smooth and creamy skin glowed with the light coming from the night lamp. Her soft and alluring breasts, rose and fell to the rhythm of her breathing. Amy couldn't help but blush as she noticed Sheldon's blue eyes, staring at her.

Sheldon's lips relished the taste of Amy's skin as they travel for her inviting anatomy.

Amy felt her skin crawling, due to the intimate level of exposure. She knew that no one in the world would make her feel that way ... Only Sheldon had that effect on her.

Amy wrapped her arms around Sheldon's back, clinging to him until the space between them was virtually inexistent.

Amy's sweet lips came together with Sheldon's in a passionate kiss. When Amy's lips parted momentarily, gasping for air, Sheldon's tongue sought access to explore her mouth with impatience.

"Oh Sheldon!" Amy repeated breathlessly. "I love you!" sounded again and again on Amy's lips, as if it were a mantra. "I love you".

Sheldon was delighted to hear his name coming from her lips. That name he usually considered as bland and dull, had a different taste when it was pronounced by the loving voice of his Amy.

The breathless moans of his beloved neurobiologist, were the perfect stimulus for Sheldon to ignite a passionate demonstration of his love for her.

Despite the comfortable routine of their life together, Amy and Sheldon kept the expectation and the charm of their first time.

Sheldon's gaze was lost in the cozy curves of Amy's body. He was yearning to have her again, coming undone in front of him, after a long period of abstinence.

"You're so beautiful." Sheldon whispered. "So beautiful ... I love you!" he said as he took her by the waist and gently helped her to lie down on the bed.

Sheldon gently lowered himself on top of her, holding his weight on his elbows. "I love you" Sheldon repeated. "I'm yours ... I'm only yours… forever. I guess you already know it. Right? ".

Amy smiled to see the lovely gesture on Sheldon's face. "Yes, I know it. I'm yours too. I'm completely yours ... for a lifetime". She sighed as tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. "I love you so much. I'm so happy with you." Amy softly kissed him.

"You say you're happy and yet ... you're crying". Sheldon gently wiped Amy's face with his thumb. "If I didn't know you so well, I'd think you suffer some sort of bipolar disorder, but I guess you ..." Amy joined her lips with Sheldon's; shushing him with a sweet kiss.

"Shelly, can we concentrate on what we're doing?" Amy winked mischievously as she untied Sheldon's belt. In one swift motion, his trousers fell to the floor with the rest of his clothes.

Immediately, Sheldon's hands resumed their exploration of Amy's skin, while her lips kissed the most sensitive spots on his neck.

For Sheldon, to be joined with Amy in such an intimate embrace, felt like coming home after a long journey.

Amy was his destiny, his home, and to be with her, felt natural and right. It had always been that way; since the moment they met.

"Ah, Amy!" An unexpected groan escaped Sheldon's throat when he could finally feel the silky warmth of Amy's folds contracting around him.

"I assume ... Kegel exercises work" Amy blushed deeply. Amy kissed Sheldon's sweet lips again. She couldn't spend another second without feeling his kisses.

"Yeah! They work!" Sheldon answered, breathing hard. "They work perfectly. Vixen!" He gasped, as he gently pressed his forehead to Amy's.

"Vixen!" Amy smiled while whispering. It had been a long time since Sheldon called her that way.

Amy's hands caressed Sheldon's back with insatiable vehemence and he responded with the same intensity.

More strokes, more kisses, more groans replaced all the words between them. For an indefinite amount of time, there was no one else in the world; just Sheldon and Amy.

As much as Sheldon had tried to restrict and rationalize every sentiment and emotion of his life; he had massively failed to set limits to the love he felt for Amy.

Surrendering to this feeling, Sheldon had finally decided to love her completely, with all his might, with all his life; holding nothing from her. Amy deserved a love like that.

"Oh God!" a stifled cry escaped from Amy's lips. "Oh God, Sheldon!" Amy's nails scratched Sheldon's back, almost causing him pain.

Hearing Amy, as she invoked a deity she didn't really believe in, Sheldon couldn't help thinking that, if there were a God; that God had created Amy Farrah Fowler thinking of Sheldon Lee Cooper and vice versa.

Amy was all Sheldon needed; she was indeed the key to his happiness. Sheldon knew it just by looking at her, with her rosy cheeks and disheveled hair. He knew it just by feeling her breathing and smelling the mesmerizing scent of her skin.

When the passion was gradually ceding a space to exhaustion, they both fell asleep, holding each other tightly, like every night.

The next day, after a nice breakfast with the family, Sheldon remembered something he had wanted to tell Amy.

"Amy, you know I'm not a person who enjoys gossiping, but last night at dinner, Raj told me that Professor Garcia and Dr. Stevenson from the Geology Department, broke off their engagement." Sheldon said casually. "Apparently, they discovered mutual infidelities; but every cloud has a silver lining and ... we won't have to attend that wedding in late January." Sheldon could not hide a smile. "You know I'm not a fan of those social events and I wasn't going to feel comfortable surrounded by so many geologists." Sheldon shrugged while cradling Thomas and Olivia, one in each arm.

"What a shame!" Amy complained. "I really wanted to visit the Athenaeum. I've seen the building from the outside and the gardens that surround it but I'd have liked to attend the wedding."

The Athenaeum is a building located within the Caltech facilities, which serves as a private club and is also one of the favorite places for weddings in Pasadena. Amy had always liked the place but so far, she didn't have the opportunity to visit it.

"Well, I guess I'll visit the famous Athenaeum at some other time." Amy told Sheldon as she helped Nicky with his coloring book. "I hope that Professor Garcia and Dr. Stevenson can settle their differences."

As if it were a sudden revelation, the image of Amy entering the great hall of the Athenaeum, with a beautiful wedding dress, appeared on Sheldon's bright mind.

Sheldon stared at Amy and swallowed to clear his throat. "A ... Amy, I think you could visit the Athenaeum sooner than you expect."

"Yes?" She asked. "Are we going?" Amy walked over to the couch, and sat next to Sheldon.

"Yes, Amy! We are going to get married in that place", Sheldon replied with a firm and resolute voice. "After all, if that wedding is canceled, there will be a free space for the next month and we could take it. Amy, do you still want to marry me?"

"Are you serious?" Amy never expected a new, and so spontaneous proposal. "Of course I still want to marry you but..."

Sheldon leaned in and kissed Amy gently on the lips. "Amy, earlier this year, you and I were planning our wedding." Amy took Thomas from Sheldon's arms, because the little boy seemed hungry again.

"Amy, I know that our plans to marry had to be postponed due to force majeure." Sheldon paused to look at Thomas and Olivia. "But ... my proposal is still standing."

"Sheldon, I think we're fine just the way we are. This really feels like being married, and I don't know if we have time to organize everything." Amy tried to think logically, although marrying Sheldon was one of her biggest dreams.

"Amy, I know we're fine as we are. I also know that signing a contract won't change the love we have for each other", Sheldon inhaled deeply and bit his lower lip, trying to find the right words to express his feelings.

Little Olivia who was sleeping in his arms, began to wake up suddenly and Sheldon rocked her gently, trying to calm her.

Amy looked at them with tenderness, feeling extremely grateful for what she had in her life.

"Amy, I don't know if it's just because of my deeply Christian upbringing or my strict sense of morality, but I feel that this is the right thing to do. Amy, I want to marry you! I want to give you the place you deserve ... as my wife." Sheldon confessed with utmost sincerity in his eyes. "I don't want to sound like Leonard and Penny, I know I've proposed before, but ... Will you be my wife?" He asked with a sigh.

"Yes, yes, yes!" Amy nodded vehemently. "Of course I will!" she replied with tears in her eyes.

"I never thought Amy and I knew so many people; in fact, I don't think our guest list had that many names on it." Sheldon said as he paced nervously from side to side.

The garden surrounding the building of the Athenaeum at Caltech, looked more beautiful than ever. The floral arrangements of white orchids and lilacs that Amy had chosen for the ceremony, filled the place with beauty and fragrance.

Almost covering his face with a hand and struggling with the blinding sun glare on that unusually bright afternoon of January, Sheldon tried to recognize at all those persons attending to his wedding.

Sheldon's family had come from Texas. Meemaw, Mary Cooper, Missy, George, accompanied by a dozen of nosy cousins and some other relatives couldn't miss such an important even.

Amy's family was much smaller. Heir mother and Aunt Marion carried Thomas and Olivia in their arms, while Mary Cooper walked down the aisle, holding Nicholas' hand.

Penny, Bernadette, Howard, Raj and Emily were next to Sheldon, waiting for the bride.

"Sheldon, nobody wants to miss your wedding with Amy," Leonard gave him a pat on the shoulder. "That's why we're all here," he said smiling. "And ... look who have just arrived."

Listening to Leonard's words, Sheldon looked back. Sheldon gasped, the minute he found, in front of him, a vision that could well be defined as heavenly.

"A ... Amy," Sheldon sighed at the sight. Sheldon struggled not to blink. He memorized every detail of the most fascinating image he had ever seen.

Amy walked towards him, wearing an ivory white dress, with a lace veil that framed her loose hair, falling in waves over her shoulders. Her sweet lips curled up in a huge smile and her green eyes shined with bliss.

"Hello, Doctor Cooper!" she whispered in Sheldon's ear.

"Hello, Doctor Fowler" he replied, swallowing hard. He extended his trembling hand to Amy and she took it gently.

Amy's hand as well as Sheldon's, felt almost frozen to the touch, but just as they made contact, the coldness disappeared immediately.

Despite being together for years, this was undoubtedly a special day for them. Amy couldn't take her eyes off Sheldon. He looked so elegant and handsome in his dark gray tuxedo, with a white flower in his lapel. His smell of baby powder and aftershave lotion was almost hypnotic to Amy.

And in that kind of hypnotic trance, Sheldon and Amy remained; entirely lost in each other's eyes.

The minister's words sounded like a distant echo to Amy and Sheldon, an echo dissipated by the sound of their breathing and their racing heartbeat.

When it was time to exchange vows between the bride and groom, the minister announced:

"I understand that the bride has written her own vows. Is that right, Amy? "

Amy nodded. "That's right" she replied.

Sheldon looked surprised. "Amy, I had no idea that you've writen your own vows. We didn't plan to do it. "

"I know, but I wanted to write something for you." Amy added, smiling sweetly.

"To be honest, I also wrote my vows." Sheldon spoke quietly. "Anyway, it would be advisable that you say your vows first, because you might start crying with my vows, and you won't be able to continue talking." Sheldon said condescendingly. "Luckily for you, I didn't write my vows in Klingon."

Amy grinned happily. "Okay ... I'll start then."

"Sheldon ... I know it's hard to tell you something that I haven't said before. It's hard because you already know all about me, you know how I think and how I feel. Nevertheless, I'll start by saying that… although none of us actually believe in fate ... I know I haven't met you by accident; in the same way, falling in love with you and loving you as much as I do, aren't just coincidences." Amy made a short pause to regain her normal breathing. "Loving you as much as I do is… the meaning of my life." Amy's voice suddenly broke. Sheldon took her hands firmly.

"Sheldon, I promise to love you forever, with all my soul, with everything I have, for the rest of my life and I promise to tell you that I love you until you get tired of hearing it. And even though ... you find it exasperating when I point out the obvious ... I'll tell you that I love you at least 4580 times, multiplied by 621… so you better start counting" Amy squeezed Sheldon's hands lovingly. "I love you!" she affirmed.

Trying to dissimulate, Sheldon wiped, with the back of his hand, a tear that threatened to fall down his cheek. He took a deep breath and started with his vows.

"Amy, 4580 times, multiplied by 621, equals 2'844.180. I want to be with you to hear you say you love me, not only that number of times but every time you want. I'll reply that I love you too, because you taught me how to do it. Amy, you taught me how to feel. I wasn't looking for anyone. I thought I didn't need anyone, but I found you ... I was frightened when I discovered that I needed you so much and… unconsciously I started to love you, and now I want to spend my life loving you. "

After his vows, Sheldon and Amy sealed their union with a kiss, trying to summarize all the love they felt ... forever.
