The next chapter is up! The reveals will keep coming!
Previously:
"I'll go talk to him," he said and Risa wiped at her eyes.
"N-No...let him have some space. I'm alright. You were right. It needed to be said," she muttered and his eyes lowered.
"He'll come around," he tried and she smiled at him weakly.
"I-I think I need some fresh air. I'll be right back," she whispered, her head down.
She couldn't even look at Tessai and the kids for fear of seeing their reactions to her news. She headed for the door and was gone before anyone could respond.
The Park...
She walked into the park and sat down on a bench. The park was empty as it was getting later. She took in a deep, shaky breath and covered her face with her hands.
How did I turn? What happened? And why do I suddenly remember everything? It's like I'm unraveling...
Suddenly, her head snapped up and she just managed to move out of the way of a blade. The blade struck the bench, dismantling it. Risa looked up glaring at her attacker, when she met his eyes. Her eyes widened.
"Isshin?" she questioned and he pointed his blade at her.
"Burn, Engetsu!" he called and she knew immediately why he was there.
"I remember everything!" he yelled at her.
"And I know you're the Hollow that attacked Masaki all those years ago!" he added and she closed her eyes.
"Are you going to kill me, Isshin?" she asked and he shook with rage.
She shook her head.
"I don't blame you," she said weakly.
"Why did you wipe our memories of you?! Was it to save your own skin?! Tell me!" he seethed and Risa shook her head.
"I didn't remember the Hollow attack until just recently. Masaki asked me to wipe your memories in her dying breaths. She said to protect—"
Risa cried out as Isshin knocked into her hard.
"Liar!" he yelled viciously.
Risa sat up and wiped the blood from her lip.
"I'm not lying," she spoke softly.
She went to stand up when Isshin kicked her back. She hit a wall and cried out, blood spilling from her mouth.
"That h-hurt..." she mumbled, feeling like her insides were on fire.
"Draw your zanpakuto!" he yelled at her.
She leaned against the wall and used it to stand up shakily.
"I don't have him on me right now," she choked out.
Isshin shook with anger.
"Where is it?!" he demanded and Risa tried to get her breathing under control.
"With your son, until he gets his own back," she replied.
Isshin glared at her. Risa shook her head.
"It doesn't matter. I wouldn't draw him if I did have him, so it doesn't make any difference," she said firmly.
"And to think you hold the Shiba—"
"—just do what you came here to do. I don't have to explain myself anymore. I already did to Ichigo and he's all that matters," she snapped and leaned against the wall holding her ribs.
Isshin's eyes widened.
"You didn't come here to forgive me. So let's get on with it," she added and waited.
"I will not come at you unarmed," he said calmer.
Risa shook her head.
"But I'm not unarmed, remember? I'm the monster that ruined your life," she said quietly.
Isshin's glare faltered.
"I'll be quick about it," he said and she nodded.
"Forgive me for not saying thank you," she mumbled and he charged.
Risa sighed lowly and closed her eyes. Suddenly, there was a clang and her eyes snapped open feeling familiar spiritual pressure flare.
"You were very foolish for thinking you would be able to cut her down before I could reach her," Kisuke seethed, his eyes red with Benihime's rage.
"Kisuke—"
"—did you think for one second that I wouldn't sense your elevated spiritual pressure? That I wouldn't know you were coming for her? You underestimated me. That was a mistake," he said and Risa realized the usually lighthearted shopkeeper was gone.
In his place stood a dangerous individual.
"This is between Risa and me," Isshin said, standing his ground.
Kisuke chuckled sardonically.
"If you so much as lift that inferior weapon to attack, I will cut you down so fast, you won't know that you've fallen until you've hit the ground," he growled and Risa shivered slightly.
The two ex captains stared each other down.
"You shouldn't have interfered," Isshin hissed.
"Walk away old friend. You don't stand a chance," Kisuke replied firmly.
Isshin sheathed his zanpakuto.
"This isn't over," he said dangerously low.
"For your sake, I hope it is," Kisuke spoke quickly, his words icy cold as he sheathed Benihime.
Isshin flash stepped away and Kisuke's spiritual pressure immediately lowered. Risa leaned against the wall as he turned to her.
"Let's go," he said sternly.
She could tell he wasn't pleased with anyone at the moment, her included. She pushed off the wall and began to follow him, when her insides began to burn again. She let out a whimper and keeled over, blood spilling from her mouth suddenly. Kisuke turned and his eyes widened. He walked towards her quickly and she held out her hand.
"I-It feels like my insides are burning..." she choked out.
Kisuke's eyes narrowed.
"He used Engetsu on you," he said and Risa tried to breathe, but it was becoming harder.
He went to help her stand, but she cried out.
"N-No, please! I-I can't move," she whispered as the burn flared up.
Kisuke cursed under his breath.
"I need you to trust me. Do you trust me?" he asked quickly.
Risa stared at him and nodded.
"Y-Yes," she whispered and he nodded.
"Don't question what I'm about to do then," he said and picked her up.
She cried out in agony and he held her close.
"The only one who can reverse this…is the one who did it," he said and took off.
The Kurosaki Residence...
Kisuke looked at Risa.
"Remember what I told you," he said and she nodded weakly.
Engetsu was already taking a toll on her body. Kisuke took a deep breath and promptly kicked the door in. He knew Ichigo wasn't home, which is why he chose to do it this way. He didn't like it, but he had to make it clear that this was not okay and if Isshin wanted to play dirty, he would match him. The two girls jumped at the sound of their door being kicked in. Isshin looked up and his eyes widened. Kisuke laid Risa on the couch and drew Benihime.
"I will only ask this once. Heal her now or I release Benihime right here in your living room. You can try to protect them, but you will fall in the process. This is completely unnecessary! Masaki would be ashamed!" he seethed and Isshin's eyes widened.
Risa stared at the scene wide eyed.
"Risa-san!" Yuzu yelled running towards her.
Isshin tried to stop her, but she was quick and by Risa in a second, ignoring the sword out and ready.
"Dad, she needs help!" Yuzu yelled nervously.
Kisuke stared down his old friend. Isshin stayed still. Kisuke moved back and looked at Yuzu.
"Understand this; I will do what is necessary to save her life. Please, don't test me," he said and
Karin looked at her dad.
"Dad, help her!" she yelled at him.
Isshin bit back a snarl. Kisuke's eyes shifted to the door as Ichigo walked in. His eyes widened taking in the scene before him.
"What the hell is going on?!" he demanded shocked.
Kisuke was getting frustrated.
"Isshin! If you don't take out your zanpakuto, you will force me to take it from you. And that will not end well for anyone involved here!" he threatened.
Risa shut her eyes and gripped her ribs. She buried her face in her hands and groaned. Kisuke glanced at her, concern flitting across his face briefly.
"What the hell are you waiting for dad?!" Ichigo cried running up to Risa.
He knelt down and pulled her hands from her face. Risa's vision was beginning to get blurry, but she could easily make out Ichigo's face. He looked concerned, which surprised her.
"Risa, just hang on okay? Dad!" Ichigo yelled at him.
"I r-remember those s-sweet chocolate eyes of yours...so clearly now..." she mumbled.
Ichigo stared at her wide eyed and she smiled at him.
"Help her!" he yelled and Isshin pulled out Engetsu.
He walked over and Kisuke quickly brought Benihime to Yuzu's throat making everyone freeze.
"Just some incentive to do only what was asked of you. You try anything else and do not think I will hesitate," he said dangerously low.
Yuzu gulped, Ichigo shook with uncertainty, and Karin buried her face in her hands terrified. Isshin carefully made a shallow slice into Risa's arm and they all watched the black smoke filter out of it. When that was finished and blood began to slowly seep from the wound, Isshin sheathed Engetsu.
"It's done," he said and Kisuke removed his blade from Yuzu's neck.
"Sorry for the hostility. Please go about your meal now," he said scooping up Risa.
He walked to the door and turned to the family.
"We will view this as a lapse in judgment and not a betrayal. With that said, do not come near us for a while," he said and disappeared.
The Urahara Shop...
Kisuke set her down on the floor gently. Tessai and the kids finally looked at her.
"Risa, are you alright?" Ururu asked and Risa nodded.
"I'll be fine," she answered softly.
"Come on Ururu, let's go get some sleep…we don't believe you're a monster Risa…" Jinta said and they walked upstairs.
Risa watched them go wide eyed and then looked to Tessai.
"I'm so sorry Tessai," she whispered and Tessai shook his head.
"No Risa. Do not apologize. I know that it was not you," he said and stood, heading upstairs.
Risa rested her head on the table and Kisuke watched her carefully.
"Thank you for not questioning me back there," Kisuke said and Risa nodded slowly.
"I think I'm going to call it an early night. The faster this day is over, the better," he said, leaving up the stairs quickly.
Risa watched him go and sat there for a few more minutes.
He's hurting...
She stood up and forced herself upstairs. She walked to their room and stepped inside. The lights were off and he was lying in bed. She walked further in and he turned his head to look at her. She changed quickly and knelt before him.
"You're shaking," she whispered and he stared at her.
"I've never threatened a child's life before…it was unsettling," he whispered back.
Risa took his hands and rubbed them gently, trying to get them to stop shaking.
"You weren't going to hurt her," she tried, but Kisuke shook his head.
"I don't know what I was going to do. If Isshin hadn't drawn Engetsu…" he trailed off and Risa shook her head.
"You would have just found another way. You wouldn't have hurt that child," she said firmly and his shaking ceased.
"Everyone is blaming you for something you had no control over. If anything, this is my fault. It all goes back to me," he said and she realized what a heavy burden he was carrying.
"But no one blames the man behind the scenes. Just the—"
"—monster up front and center," she finished and he glared at her.
"You're not a monster," he snapped and she smiled at him.
"It's alright. I'm alright. All this took me by surprise, but I'm coping with it. I'm surviving," she murmured and he smiled as she rested her head on his chest and snuggled close to him.
He wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"Thank you Kisuke. For staying with me," she whispered and he kissed her head as they fell asleep.
Memories...
Risa let out a low moan as she felt soft lips press against her shoulder.
"Time to get up Lieutenant," Kisuke whispered in her ear, making her shiver.
She pulled the blanket over her head and heard him chuckle. She smiled, her eyes still closed, as she felt him join her under the blanket.
"Let's just stay in the whole day. Me and you in this bed," she groaned and Kisuke smiled; a light blush on his cheeks.
"I would like nothing more. But we do have a squad to look after," he said and she turned to him, finally opening her eyes.
She bit her lip taking in the naked man before her. He was a stunning sight and she blushed.
"I am one lucky woman," she grinned and Kisuke's eyes widened slightly before he blushed intensely, suddenly becoming shy.
Risa snickered and rolled so that she rested on top of him. Kisuke held her in place and brushed some of her hair back.
"Beautiful," he murmured and she smiled at him lovingly.
She leaned down and took in his scent, a thing she did that drove him crazy. He closed his eyes trying to will down his excitement. Risa smirked lightly as she let her lips gently kiss down his chest.
"You sure we have to get up now? We can be a little late, can't we Captain?" she teased and Kisuke smirked.
"Lieutenant, I've never known you to be a bad influence," he chided playfully and Risa met his eyes.
"Do you like it?" she asked and he nodded.
"Very much," he admitted and their lips met.
He let a throaty growl escape his lips and she could feel his body giving in.
"You take the fight out of me," he whispered and she grinned.
"Good, let that only be my power," she joked as their lips met again.
A loud knock at the door made them jolt and turn slightly.
"Captain, open the door! I can't find the Lieutenant!" Kurotsuchi called and Risa looked at Kisuke.
"Rain check, Captain," she mused and kissed him before flash stepping away.
She was dressed and out the back window in a second. Kisuke pulled on his pants and walked to the door, opening it lazily.
"Ah, Mayuri! She has to be around here somewhere. We'll find her, let me just get dressed and I'll help," he said and finished dressing.
Then they were off to the Squad 12 training grounds. Risa watched as the squad trained. Hiyori knocked one of their seated officers to the ground hard.
"Easy Hiyori, this is just a spar. No need to knock out teeth. It's an added expense and his dentist will be very upset with you," Risa smirked.
Hiyori grinned.
"Next victim!" she called and Risa laughed.
She turned seeing Kisuke walking up to her with Kurotsuchi.
"You two are late," she chided playfully.
Kisuke smirked and Mayuri threw a fit.
"I was looking for you!" he tried and Risa chuckled.
"It's alright, go and choose a sparring partner," she said and he stalked off cursing her under his breath.
Kisuke stepped next to Risa.
"You've gotten faster, Lieutenant," he noticed and she smiled and nodded.
"Yes, thank you for noticing," she whispered.
He was about to speak when sirens went off. Risa looked up alertly and gripped Juuyaiba on instinct.
"Squads 2 and 12 report to the outer edge of the Fugai Forest. There is Hollow activity too close to the border," the order was given via transmission.
"Ah come on, why do we always gotta clean up these stupid messes?! It's scrap work!" Hiyori whined.
Risa smiled.
"You don't have to come. I trust Kurotsuchi to have my back," she said and Hiyori scoffed.
She didn't see Kurotsuchi's eyes widen slightly.
"Yeah right, you need me. Let's go," she rolled her eyes and Risa chuckled as the squad took off.
The Edge of the Fugai Forest...
Kisuke was speaking with Yoruichi while Risa watched Mayuri investigate some white substance on a rock.
"Hey Mayuri?" Risa called and he turned to her, about to curse her for not addressing him properly.
"Is that the same white substance that we found last time? When we were attacked by the Hollows?" she asked and this question caught everyone's attention, including the two Captains.
Mayuri stared at her before answering.
"Yes, it appears to be the same," he said finally.
Risa nodded; her eyes distant as if reliving the memory for a moment. She unconsciously gripped Juuyaiba's hilt tighter.
"Do you remember that day?" she asked quietly, unaware people were listening.
Mayuri paused in his work.
"Barely," he lied.
Risa rubbed her side gently remembering the wound she received.
"That's good I guess…to not remember it much," she whispered more to herself then to him.
"This substance may be the same…but we are not," he added and she blinked and looked at him.
Kurotsuchi stared at the rock.
"Unlike the white substance...we have changed significantly. What happened that day will not happen again," he finished taking samples.
Risa smiled weakly. Kurotsuchi glanced at her from the corner of his eyes.
"Never again," he muttered.
"It wasn't a big deal. You're a part of my squad and that means we protect each other. I'm sure you'll have to protect me one day," she blushed at all the attention.
Mayuri huffed.
"Stop smiling that stupid smile," he snapped and went back to work.
Risa chuckled and turned to Hiyori.
"Let's head in a little deeper. Maybe there's more to this mission," she said and headed towards the forest.
"Yeah, because so far, this mission blows," Hiyori agreed and headed towards the interior with her.
"Captain, we'll do a scan of the interior to see if we missed anything, alright?" she called and he didn't turn, but waved her off, continuing his talk with Yoruichi.
She almost cursed him. She knew they were hiding their relationship from everyone, but to completely dismiss her! She whirled around trying to contain her anger. He'd hear about this later.
"Come on Hiyori. Let's be quick," she grumbled and the pair walked off into the forest.
They hadn't gotten very far when they heard it. It sounded like a soft growl. Risa let her hand skim Juuyaiba's hilt and Hiyori did the same.
"What was that?" Hiyori asked alertly.
Risa shook her head.
"It could be anything. The Fugai Forest is home to an infinite number of creatures," she replied calmly.
"Maybe we should check it out," Hiyori suggested, but Risa shook her head.
"No, let's go back and inform the Captains that this mission requires further investigation into the forest," she answered and headed out with Hiyori following close by.
They were by the edge of the forest about to emerge when Risa turned to Hiyori.
"Hiyori..." she said and the blonde looked at her.
"Run..." she whispered and Hiyori's eyes widened.
Risa grabbed her and shoved her forward.
"Run!" she yelled and they took off and out of the brush almost colliding with their squads.
They stopped and Risa turned towards the forest looking in for anything following them.
"What was it?" Hiyori asked and Risa's eyes scanned the brush.
"Lieutenant?" Kisuke called and she blinked.
"I felt a terrible weight on my chest in there," she said covering the area over her heart, still looking out into the trees.
"You ran because of a feeling? Kisuke, your Lieutenant is going soft on you," Yoruichi laughed and the squads joined her.
Kisuke playfully glared at his best friend and Risa felt her anger bubble.
"I'm being serious. There's something menacing in that forest," Risa tried and then there was shuffling in the bushes.
Everyone turned as a small rabbit hopped out. Everyone burst into laughter and Risa blushed embarrassed. Mayuri and Hiyori didn't laugh. Kisuke chuckled lightly, trying to suppress it. Risa scratched her head.
"Let's head back. We're done here," Yoruichi grinned and Sui-Feng nodded following behind her.
Kisuke smiled.
"Come on Lieutenant. Let's walk it off," he said sensing her anger.
Risa turned to follow when she caught something out of the corner of her eye. A glint.
"Captain!" she yelled and stepped in the way.
She felt the initial hit and cried out as she hit the ground holding her bloody shoulder. Kisuke whirled around his eyes widening.
"Risa!" he yelled alarmed.
Risa stood up, making sure she was in front of him protectively and saw another glint. Her eyes widened. She wasn't ready.
She closed her eyes ready to take the blow for him. But no blow came. She opened her eyes slowly and gasped seeing Kurotsuchi in front of her, the blade of the Vasto Lorde embedded deep within his chest. Blood poured down his mouth. The Hollow let out an ear piercing roar. Risa raised Juuyaiba and placed the nozzle to the Vasto Lorde's head in shock.
"Engage Juuyaiba, shot gun!" she screamed and it blew the Vasto Lorde back into the forest.
Mayuri dropped and Risa caught him, his head falling into her shoulder.
"Mayuri?!" she cried alarmed as his blood stained her skin.
"Damn it, it's a Vasto Lorde! Menos too! Dozens!" someone shouted.
Risa put pressure on the wound and Mayuri sighed tiredly.
"J-Just hang on. You're going to be alright," she stuttered, trying to keep calm.
"We need to retreat! There are more of them!" another voice rang out.
Risa stared at the man in her arms.
"W-We can't just leave him," she mumbled.
"Let's go! Retreat!" voices yelled out.
Risa held him closer and he shook his head.
"You...idiot. Go..." he choked out.
Risa shook her head.
"I'm not leaving you here," she said firmly.
"Risa!" Hiyori called out.
Risa broke his gaze to look at her third seat.
"There are too many! We have to go now!" Hiyori yelled.
Risa looked at Mayuri. Her hands were covered in his blood. Someone grabbed her then and she tensed.
"We need to go Lieutenant! We're being overpowered!" Kisuke yelled, his eyes glancing at her bloody shoulder.
Risa shook her head.
"Help me lift him!" she said and Kisuke stared at her.
"Risa—"
"—you're wasting your time trying to convince me to go. I'm not leaving him," she snapped and Kisuke looked down at Mayuri.
"I told her t-to go," he muttered and Risa shook her head.
"I won't—" and her world faded to darkness.
In The Squad Four Barracks...
Risa's eyes snapped open and she flew up. Hiyori stopped her from getting off the bed and Risa grabbed her wounded shoulder gently.
"Relax Risa," she tried.
"Where's Mayuri?" she snapped and Hiyori flinched.
She hated when Risa was so angry.
"He's here. He's in another room. Kisuke and I managed to get you both back," she said.
Risa's glare broke.
"He's alive?" she asked, hope filling her voice.
Hiyori nodded. Risa stood up and began to dress.
"Who knocked me out?" she asked next and Hiyori's eyes lowered.
"Captain Shihoin," Hiyori said and Risa nodded.
Then she was gone and Hiyori cursed. Risa walked down the hall and to his room.
"He needs more time to recuperate, Lieutenant Inari," Captain Unohana said and Risa turned to her.
"Will he make it?" she asked quietly and Unohana smiled.
"Yes, it seems he will pull through. He has a strong will as I have learned many in Squad 12 do," she said and Risa smiled lightly at the compliment.
"I'll visit him later then," she said and Unohana nodded.
"You will be the first person I reach out too," she said softly and Risa nodded in thanks.
The Squad Twelve Barracks...
Risa walked into her barracks and Hiyori sighed with relief.
"Good, you're here! Now I don't have to create a search party!" she said exasperated.
"Where is the Captain?" she asked and Hiyori's smirk fell.
"You okay, Risa?" she asked and Risa nodded.
"Fine."
Hiyori pointed to the training grounds.
"He's talking with Captain Shihoin," Hiyori answered and Risa nodded.
"Thank you," she said and headed to his barracks.
"Risa, don't do anything worth regretting," Hiyori tried.
"I won't regret this," she said and walked into the training grounds open area.
Kisuke felt her spiritual pressure almost immediately and turned from Yoruichi.
"Ah Lieutenant! You're awake! How's your shoulder?" he asked grinning, but the grin faded quickly when he saw her face.
Hiyori stopped a few feet away as Risa lunged at Yoruichi, throwing her fist in the Captain's face. Yoruichi went flying into the ground a few feet away. Risa went to follow up with another attack when Kisuke grabbed her and before she knew it she was in a defensive hold.
"Stop, Risa!" he yelled and she raged.
"I don't care who you are or if you have captain before your name, if you ever interfere with my squad again I will beat the hell out of you!" she seethed and Hiyori's eyes widened.
She had never seen the Lieutenant so furious except when Kirio was their Captain. Yoruichi sat up, stunned to be hit by the usually calm and collected Lieutenant. Sui-Feng stood ready at her side, pissed off. She helped up her Captain.
"Can I trust you to calm down?" Kisuke whispered in Risa's ear and she involuntary shivered.
"Kurotsuchi could have died and she gave the order to retreat! She knocked me out! She disregarded my decision completely!" she cried and Kisuke nodded.
"But he's alive. I need you to calm down," he said very calmly and she tried to take deep breaths.
Kisuke held her close and closed his eyes. He could feel her body trembling and her heart was pounding in her chest.
"That was some punch," Yoruichi complimented, wiping the blood from her lip.
"You should be arrested for striking a Captain!" Sui-Feng seethed and Yoruichi chuckled.
"Nah, I deserved it. She's right, I did give the order," she mused and Kisuke felt Risa's body relax slightly.
He hesitantly let her go and she straightened out.
"Finally, something we both agree on," she whispered.
"Captain Urahara, Lieutenant Inari, fourth seat Kurotsuchi is awake," Kotetsu said and Risa was gone.
In The Squad Four Barracks...
She walked in quickly and stopped short seeing Mayuri sitting up, bandages wrapped around his chest. His makeup was off and his golden eyes shined brightly. He turned to her with a glare.
"Get out! How dare you come in unannounced?! I'm indecent!" he seethed and she smiled relieved and nodded, unable to speak, and walked back out into the hallway, closing the door behind her.
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. Her legs felt like jelly and she leaned against the wall for support. She covered her mouth and tried to calm her trembling. When she opened her eyes they widened coming face to face with Kisuke.
"Captain," she said and he smiled.
"Lieutenant. Is Kurotsuchi alright?" he asked and she nodded.
"He's putting on his face...paint," she settled.
Kisuke nodded.
"Alright, Lieutenant, I'm decent now!" Mayuri called and she walked back in.
Kisuke waited outside, but listened by the door. Risa walked up to his cot and sat on it.
"Don't get comfortable," he mumbled and she stared at him.
"I'm so sorry Mayuri," she choked out and his eyes widened.
Kisuke listened through the door in shock. Risa shook her head.
"I couldn't keep you safe..." she trailed off.
Silence.
"Do you think you're the only person who can protect others?" he asked.
"It's my job—"
"—and it's my job. And it's Sarugaki's job. And our Captain's job. We all must protect, that is why we're here. My injury does not mean you failed, it means I succeeded. I kept you safe like I promised. You kept our Captain safe. Had I not interfered, it would be you lying here with much worse than a wounded shoulder," he said rather calmly.
Risa stared at him wide eyed. Mayuri rolled his eyes.
"We are not the same as we were during that first mission we shared. I am no longer weak and you no longer have to protect me like you did. Now we can protect each other. You did your part. Don't you listen to anything I say?" he snapped and she hugged him.
He froze and Kisuke suddenly felt wrong for listening by the door. Mayuri struggled under her hold at first and then finally returned the hug briefly.
"Alright, alright enough!" he whined and she pulled back and smiled.
"Get some rest and know that the squad misses you, so hurry up and get better," she said softly and he grumbled under his breath.
Then she stood and left. She saw Kisuke leaning against the wall and offered him a small smile.
"Let me walk you back to the barracks," he said and she nodded.
They walked quietly for a while before one spoke.
"I should apologize to Captain Shihoin," she whispered and Kisuke shook his head smiling.
"No, I think it's best to just let it be. She understands why she got hit. She did deserve it," he mused and Risa looked down at the ground.
"I was so angry. I lost control. I haven't lost control like that since…" and her sentence died on her lips.
Kisuke eyed her curiously.
"Since?" he prodded.
Risa smiled lightly.
"Since Kirio Hikifune was my Captain," she said softly.
Kisuke nodded.
"She made you lose control?" he asked, seeing how far he could get with her.
Risa smiled weakly.
"She was...a great friend of mine..." she said after some thought.
Kisuke listened carefully.
"...but not a very good captain," she said and they arrived at the training grounds.
Risa smiled.
"I think I'll get some training in before night," she said and was off.
Later That Day...
Kisuke walked towards his barracks when he saw Hiyori training by herself outside. He stopped, watching her for a few moments before she took notice of him.
"What are you looking at?!" she snapped and he grinned.
"Why are you training so late?" he asked.
She sighed and rolled her eyes.
"So my eyes get adjusted to fighting in the dark," she said as if he should have known that.
Kisuke frowned.
"Who told you to do that?" he asked curiously.
Hiyori grabbed her water bottle.
"Risa and I used to do it all the time. If we know how to fight in the light we should know how to fight in darkness," she said sipping her water.
Kisuke nodded.
"That's quite impressive. Did your previous Captain teach you that?" he asked and she shook her head after a moment.
"No, this was Risa's idea," she said and sat down on the porch.
Kisuke joined her. Hiyori glared at him.
"This wasn't an invitation," she quipped, but he ignored her.
"Risa said she and Hikifune were great friends, but that Hikifune wasn't a great captain," he said and Hiyori's eyes lowered.
Silence.
"Kirio and Risa were really close, but they argued a lot. Risa didn't like the way Kirio made her decisions. She based them on the succession rate of the mission, not on her squad members' safety. It would drive Risa crazy and they were always at each other's throats. Sometimes Risa would go against her and they'd end up fighting it out. Kirio was always by the laws of the Soul Society. Risa...she saw things...differently," she said and stood up.
"I wouldn't say Kirio was a bad captain, just different. Risa would do anything to save a comrade and Kirio would do anything to complete the mission, even if it meant sacrificing a few squad members. That's why Risa never let me go with Kirio alone on missions. She always had to be there for everyone. She refused to let anyone die and if someone did die, it would always land Risa in the Squad Four barracks because you can bet your ass she fought with everything she had to save them and paid the price for it," Hiyori said firmly.
"Risa views many people as family, because she didn't have one growing up. So Shinji, myself…even Kurotsuchi is family to her. Even you now," she said offhandedly.
Then she left and Kisuke sat, processing her every word.
End Memory...
Kisuke blinked and turned, wrapping his arm around her tightly and shutting his eyes.
Memory...
Risa sat up in bed and stared into the darkness. She was in her own room, as Kisuke was stuck in a Captain's meeting. She wasn't required to go, but now she wished she had. The other Lieutenants probably did. Her eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness and she cursed, rubbing her head. She used to be fine sleeping alone, but now she hated it. She wanted him next to her, but she'd have to wait. She wiped at her eyes and lay back down.
Sleep.
But she couldn't. Her mind was racing and she couldn't place why. That is until she felt the blade against her throat.
"Infiltration complete," the voice whispered and Risa's eyes widened.
She managed to shove the blade off, slicing herself in the process and hissed as the cut burned under her chin. She felt the blood ooze down her neck as her eyes landed on the figure. It was trying to escape out her window. Risa growled, pissed off that she was attacked in her own home, and tackled the figure into the wall. It cracked from the force and the two tumbled into her dresser, knocking it over. Glass shattered nearby and Risa struggled to get up as did the figure. Again it made a break for the window. Risa tripped it and climbed on top hitting it hard in the face.
"Who are you?!" she yelled and the figure, head butted her, making her world spin.
She didn't lose her grip though and hit the enemy again. This time, the enemy stood down. Risa felt the blood trail down her forehead. Her knuckles were white almost as if she had paint on them. She took in a shaky breath, reaching for the mask, when another figure emerged, tackling her off. She stood up shakily, trying to get her bearings in the darkness. She saw the two making their way to the window again and took in a shaky breath as she charged. All three went crashing out the window. The noise was loud enough to attract attention, she hoped. She hit the cold, hard ground and rolled with her assailants. She shot up, adrenaline soaring through her body. The assailants pulled out their weapons and Risa readied herself.
"What was that?!" someone yelled.
"It came from the Squad 12 barracks!" another person called.
"It wasn't supposed to be this hard," one of the figures murmured.
Risa was breathing heavily. She was ready for them to attack, but they seemed hesitant. And then they were next to her, their blades at her throat. She froze, unable to process how they moved so fast. These were not Soul Reapers, she concluded.
A few Soul Reapers began to fill the Squad 12 barracks and stared at the intruders. Hiyori shoved her way to the front and her eyes widened.
"Risa!" she yelled in a startling display of concern.
Risa blinked trying to see through the blood in her eyes. The blades were pressed against her throat harsher, reopening the wound previously there. Risa closed her eyes.
"Do you have any final words?" one asked.
"We cannot kill her! We have our orders!" the other hissed.
Risa was afraid to take a deep breath, as the blade was pressed so harshly to her throat.
"H-Hiyori, look away," Risa choked out and Hiyori's eyes widened.
Risa swallowed carefully.
"L-Look away!" she snapped and Hiyori stared at her in shock.
"Clear a path! The captains are coming through!" someone called and the Soul Reapers parted.
"You cannot kill her! We need to retreat now!" it screeched and the other one sighed.
It removed its blade, slicing into her neck shallowly. She flinched as they took off. Risa was frozen to her spot, shakes racking her body.
"What happened here?" the Head Captain demanded.
"Lieutenant?" Kisuke called, stunned, his eyes wide.
He stepped forward when the Head Captain held up his hand, stopping him.
"Everyone remains in their positions until I say," he said, his eyes scanning the area.
Risa tried to breathe. She touched her neck and looked at her hand, blood coating it. Her eyes stared off into the distance where the intruders left.
"Lieutenant Risa Inari!" the Head Captain called for the third time, snapping her from her thoughts.
She slowly looked at him, her eyes always shifting back to where they left.
"I have asked a question! What happened here?" he demanded and she cleared her throat.
"I decided to go for a walk, but instead of using the door I decided the closed window would be easier," she replied sarcastically.
"Risa," Kisuke said and she didn't look at him.
"I was trying to sleep when I realized I was not alone in my room. We fought; I had gained the upper hand when another figure emerged. We all fell out of the window together and they…" she trailed off hesitant.
"Go on," the Head Captain spoke.
Risa closed her eyes.
"They were clearly superior. I lost and would have been killed, but..." her jaw clenched.
"...they spared me," she hissed, clearly angered by the revelation.
Then her knees buckled and she dropped to them, her adrenaline gone. Hiyori shot out; ignoring the order to hold ground, and ran to her. She dropped to her knees, catching her Lieutenant before she hit the ground.
"I've got you," she whispered and Risa smiled weakly, resting her head against the blonde spitfire's shoulder.
The Head Captain turned to Kisuke.
"Your squad is not prone to following order—"
He stopped not seeing the Captain there, but with his Lieutenant and third seat. The Head Captain almost rolled his eyes. Kisuke knelt down to them.
"How bad are the wounds?" he asked softly.
Risa tried to catch her breath. She felt Hiyori's grip tighten.
"Shallow, Captain. My fatigue is more because I was attacked when my guard was completely down then from my wounds," she admitted.
Kisuke nodded.
"Understood, but shallow or not I want you looked at by Captain Unohana," he said and she nodded slowly.
"I can walk," she murmured and stood with Hiyori's help.
"I'll take her," Hiyori said and there was no use arguing.
Kisuke nodded.
"I'll meet with the others to see if anyone got a look at the assailants," he said and Risa looked at him.
"You'll stop by later?" she asked and he smiled at her.
"Of course," he said and she smiled and walked off with Hiyori.
In the Squad Four Barracks...
Risa sat, her eyes alert. Hiyori sat next to her.
"Do you think the Head Captain will send us after those two?" Hiyori asked and Risa nodded.
"Most likely. We need to figure out why they were here, how they got in undetected, why they targeted our barracks..." Risa trailed off.
Hiyori nodded in understanding. The door opened then and Kisuke entered with Yoruichi and Sui-Feng. Mayuri stood off in the back. He did not look happy.
"He wants us to pursue the intruders?" Risa guessed and Kisuke nodded.
"Effective immediately," he added and Risa nodded.
Hiyori huffed.
"It was stupid to think otherwise," she growled.
Risa stood up.
"So then I guess we should go," she said and Kisuke looked uncomfortable.
"I'm taking Sarugaki and Kurotsuchi with me on this one—"
"—I'm fine, they just cut me. I've been cut worse. I'm not affected by it," she answered quickly.
Kisuke nodded slowly.
"I know that, but you're still going to sit this one out," he said firmly and Risa's eyes widened.
His eyes were darker, sterner. She frowned. Where was the goofy man she was used too? She nodded after a moment.
"Yes, Captain," she gave in and he nodded and left with the group.
In the Squad 12 Barracks...
Risa walked with Juuyaiba close to her side. She would no longer go anywhere without him. She kicked a pebble across the dirt and looked up, staring at the lab. Mayuri and Kisuke's pride and joy. Then her eyes widened as she saw movement inside. She took off into the lab and stopped as darkness encased her again. Her eyes searched the dark looking for movement.
"We have the samples. Let's go," one whispered.
Risa aimed Juuyaiba quietly. Her spiritual pressure was hidden expertly.
"Shotgun!" she yelled and she felt unfamiliar spiritual pressure fluctuate.
Glass shattered and she saw one of the intruders hit the floor.
"No!" another yelled and Risa felt a sharp pain before her world went dark.
Unknown Area of the Fugai Forest...
"Risa."
"Risa."
"Risa!"
Risa's eyes opened slowly hearing her name being called.
"Risa, can you hear me?!"
Risa blinked and her eyes shifted. She didn't move yet. Her head was splitting. Then she slowly and carefully rose from the ground into a sitting position.
"Risa, are you alright?" a voice asked.
Risa closed her eyes and rubbed her head. She pulled back her hand and saw the blood. She sighed, her headache making her nauseous. Her eyes focused on bars then.
"W-Where am I?" she wondered aloud.
"We're somewhere on the border of the Fugai Forest," Hiyori answered and Risa looked at her, finally realizing she wasn't alone.
Kisuke, Yoruichi, Hiyori, Mayuri, and Sui-Feng stood in a cage in her room. Her eyes widened.
"W-What happened?" she asked weakly.
"It was an ambush. They were waiting for us," Kurotsuchi spoke annoyed.
Risa was about to speak when the intruders walked in.
They didn't speak, just walked up to her cage.
"You killed one of us," it said and eyes widened.
Risa stared at the masked figure, but didn't answer.
"So you will be punished first," it said and opened her cage door.
Risa's eyes widened and she backed up.
"Stop! What do you want?!" Kisuke called, desperately.
Yoruichi steeled herself. She knew this wouldn't be good. She also knew her best friend's feelings for this particular woman were strong; stronger than they should have been.
"Get on your knees," it said and Risa shook her head.
She was answered with a hard hit to the face. Kisuke closed his eyes tightly. His anger was building to rage and his nerves were growing into actual fear. His breathing became labored. He was losing control of the situation and his emotions. Risa wiped the blood from her lip and leaned against the cage.
"When you killed one of us...did it make you feel powerful?" one asked and Risa knew it was going to get bad.
"Did you feel glee?" it asked and Risa stayed silent.
"Let me show you what brings us glee," it said grabbing her by the hair and dragging her to a table in the middle of the cages.
"Listen to me! You don't have to do this! We can talk this—" Kisuke was cut off.
"—do not lie to our faces! You will only make it worse for her!" it seethed.
"Why don't you show us your faces?! What are you hiding?!" Yoruichi hissed.
They slammed Risa against the table and held her hand to the wood. Risa struggled only slightly. Their grip was unyielding and in her current condition, she didn't have a shot.
"This may hurt a bit," one grinned under his hood and plunged a dagger into her hand.
Risa's eyes widened as she tried to register what just happened. Then she screamed. Loudly. Blood gushed from her hand in torrents and she wondered briefly how a hand could bleed so much.
"Stop!" Kisuke yelled, completely unnerved.
"And what will you do if we don't?" one sneered and Kisuke's eyes burned through its own.
"Let me take her place. You have no leverage with her. I outrank her and am of Captain Level," he tried and it seemed to peak their interest.
Yoruichi turned to him.
"You're not thinking with your head, Kisuke," she whispered quickly.
He didn't look at her. His eyes never left his lieutenant.
"They're going to kill her. I will not stand here and watch it happen," he spoke firmly.
"You won't stand here and watch it happen as her Captain?" she snapped.
Kisuke turned to her briefly, his eyes steely.
"No…not as just her Captain," he revealed.
Yoruichi's eyes widened.
"Kisuke—"
"—perhaps this will move you towards a decision. If you do not release us, I will release my bankai and kill us all and whoever resides outside of this room. I don't need my zanpakuto to call upon my most powerful attack," he said and all eyes widened.
"You're bluffing—"
"—Soul Reapers are always ready to give their life at anytime, anywhere. We are fully prepared for death at all times. Are you?" he asked and everything became silent.
Risa tried to breathe normally. She slowly and carefully wrapped her good hand around the hilt of the dagger. She took in a shaky breath. Now was the time. He was giving the perfect distraction. Their attention was off of her. She pulled the dagger out of her hand and held back a scream as she plunged it into one of their necks.
Blood spurted from the wound and the figure gurgled on its own blood.
"No!" the other screamed out.
Risa quickly dodged its attack and stabbed it as well, dropping it to the floor with a thud. She grabbed Juuyaiba with her good hand and broke the chains on the cage. They reclaimed their weapons quickly and Kisuke turned to Risa, who tied some of her shihakusho around her bloody hand tightly.
"I'll be fine," she said, reading his mind effectively.
He stared at her and then nodded slightly.
"We need to move now!" Yoruichi ordered and they took off.
They made it outside and ran until they reached a huge waterfall.
"Let's head back the other way," Sui-Feng said and they turned, only to meet with several masked figures emitting powerful spiritual energy.
"This is bad," Hiyori said and Risa readied her zanpakuto.
Kisuke turned to Risa.
"Do you trust me?" he asked and she stared at him.
"Yes," she said firmly.
He touched her cheek gently, shocking the others in the group. He stared at her and then shocked her, pressing his lips to her forehead.
"Take a deep breath," he whispered and shoved her off the cliff.
She let out a scream as she fell and disappeared into the waterfall. He turned to the others, who were thoroughly shocked.
"Follow her now, all of you," he ordered and Mayuri immediately jumped off, knowing Risa wasn't the greatest swimmer in the world.
Sui-Feng turned to Yoruichi.
"Lady Yoruichi—"
"—you heard Captain Urahara. We'll be right behind you," she said and Sui-Feng nodded and jumped off.
Hiyori stared at her Captain.
"Don't be stupid, dumbass," she quipped before leaping off.
"Why did you throw Risa off? Why didn't you just tell her to jump with the others?" Yoruichi asked as the masked figures charged.
Kisuke readied Benihime.
"She wouldn't have jumped. So I pushed her off, because...she wouldn't have jumped," he spoke quietly.
Yoruichi nodded in understanding and they attacked.
At the Base of the Waterfall...
Mayuri helped Risa onto dry land and then got Hiyori and Sui-Feng. They sat trying to catch their breaths.
"We have to go back up!" Risa protested.
"The order was given. We have to stay here," Sui-Feng said.
"You stay here, I'm going back up," Risa snapped.
Sui-Feng grabbed her shoulder, but she shrugged her off and glared at her.
"You can't keep disobeying him! It doesn't look right on him or on you! You have to trust him, remember?!" Sui-Feng snapped before Risa could.
Risa's eyes widened. Then a loud explosion rocked their ears.
"The fight is moving away from here," Mayuri concluded, watching the smoke a distance away.
"They're drawing them away," Hiyori said.
Risa clenched her jaw and sat down on a rock.
"We'll wait one hour. Then I'm going," she said and Sui-Feng relaxed and nodded.
"Then we'll all go," she said and Risa sighed.
One Hour Later...
The group had made it back up the cliff and their eyes widened. Bodies littered the floor. It was a blood bath. The hoods were off some and Mayuri knelt down to the white masses.
"This is the same substance as the one the captain and I have been studying. Perhaps they were after this all along," he muttered and Risa looked around.
"Where are they?" she whispered.
"We should split up in twos and scan the area," Sui-Feng suggested.
Risa nodded after a moment.
"Hiyori, go with Mayuri. I'll go with Sui-Feng," she said and quickly.
"Risa—"
"—I want you two together. You'll keep each other safe," she interrupted and they fell silent.
Then they were gone. Risa turned to Sui-Feng.
"Let's go."
They searched the woods for a while before they heard distant voices. Then screams. They froze and then took off out of the brush. They watched the last of the masked figures fall into a bloody heap. Then they watched Yoruichi fall. They raced over and Sui-Feng brought the Captain into her lap.
"Lady Yoruichi?!" she cried and the cat cracked an eye open.
"K-Kisuke...he..." she trailed off, her eyes closing.
"Stay with her. I'll continue looking," Risa said and heard no objections.
She searched the forest a few more minutes before exiting into a clearing. Her eyes widened and her heart stopped for a moment. Kisuke stood in the middle of the clearing, blood staining his skin and clothes, as well as his zanpakuto. His head was lowered, his sword resting limply in his grip.
"C-Captain?" Risa called out nervously.
She gasped as Benihime slipped from his hand and clattered onto the ground as he dropped to his knees.
"Kisuke!" she yelled and flash stepped in front of him as he fell forward.
His head hit her shoulder as she hugged him to her. Blood oozed from his mouth. His eyes were off, distant. It terrified her.
"You're going to be alright," she said, but she felt him shake his head slowly against her shoulder and her blood ran cold.
"No, don't do that," she whispered and he smiled weakly against her neck.
"Y-You h-have to go..." he choked out.
Risa's eyes widened. She shook her head quickly.
"N-No, I'm not leaving you so don't ask me too," she seethed.
Kisuke swallowed the blood filling his throat. His breathing came out ragged and heavy. He was dying she knew. She closed her eyes.
"W-Why did you push me off the damn cliff?! Why would you do that?! I'm your Lieutenant! It's my job to fight with you!" she cried.
Kisuke forced his head up. It felt so heavy, but he managed to rest it against her forehead. His eyes were so tired. They were losing their light.
"I...I p-pushed you off...because..." his eyes became unfocused.
She was losing him and it was killing her. She panicked and shook him lightly.
"Stay with me," she pleaded and he swallowed painfully, trying to focus.
"...because you wouldn't...have jumped...if I asked..." he got out and she felt tears brim at her eyes.
She shook her head.
"No, I wouldn't have," she sobbed.
Kisuke smiled and brushed a tear from her cheek.
"T-That's what I love about you..." he mumbled and her eyes widened.
Kisuke was dazed, the blood loss taking its toll.
"...you wouldn't...have jumped..." he whispered.
His eye lids became heavy and Risa began to cry.
"D-Don't be a-afraid..." he managed and she kissed him.
She could taste the copper on his lips. She closed her eyes and took his hand tightly.
"I won't give up. Not now. They can't have you," she said lowly and suddenly a blue light surrounded him.
Risa closed her eyes and Kisuke could suddenly breathe easier. His eyes widened slightly.
"W-What are you doing?" he asked confused.
Risa didn't answer him. Her concentration was on keeping the blue light around him. Kisuke felt some of his strength return.
"R-Risa, s-stop..." he said, but she ignored him.
Sweat poured down her temple. Kisuke panicked slightly.
"S-Stop!" he ordered and pressed his lips to hers breaking her concentration.
Her eyes snapped open and she cursed him breathlessly.
"W-What was that?" he demanded, feeling slightly better.
His lungs no longer felt like they were going to collapse. He could breathe again. Risa sighed, her breathing heavy. She was about to speak when the others appeared from out of the brush.
"Whoa, Captain you got your ass kicked!" Hiyori grinned.
Kisuke smirked.
"Ah, you think so? You should ask one of the masked men—oh that's right," he said and Hiyori glared at him realizing all the masked men were dead.
Yoruichi stared at her friend.
"Kisuke, I saw you take a direct hit from one of them. You took it for me and you didn't block it in time. How are you breathing right now?" she asked and he glanced at her.
"I guess I didn't get hit as bad as you thought," he answered and she immediately knew something was up.
"Let's head back. We all need to be looked at," he said and Mayuri helped him stand.
Hiyori walked over to Risa.
"Let's go, dumbass," she said and Risa stood.
She felt a heavy weight on her chest and then it was gone as if never there. She frowned as they slowly walked home.
In the Soul Society...The Squad Four Barracks...
Kisuke rested comfortably on his cot in the Squad Four barracks. His eyes remained closed, but he was aware of the person entering his room. Risa sat down next to him in the chair provided and sighed tiredly. She rested her head on his bed and closed her eyes. They snapped open when feeling long fingers run through her hair. She glanced up and smiled lightly.
"How are you feeling?" she asked softly.
Kisuke returned the smile and nodded slowly.
"Better than I was," he said lowly.
"That's an improvement," she said.
Kisuke rested against his pillow. Risa stood.
"Rest, I'll come back," she said, but he shook his head quickly.
"No, please stay. I thoroughly enjoy your company," he spoke and she blushed lightly and sat back down.
"Fine, but rest. I'll rest some too. I'm exhausted," she admitted and rested her head on his bed.
Kisuke smiled and they both drifted off to sleep.
Risa awoke to harsh shaking sometime later.
"Lieutenant Inari, can you hear me?"
Risa frowned lightly and her eyes opened slowly.
"Wha—?" she mumbled as she sat up, the shaking ceasing.
"Oh thank god."
"She's awake!"
"Who's awake?" Risa asked.
"And talking!"
Voices swirled in her mind. She looked up and saw familiar faces surrounding her.
"What is it?" she asked her voice hoarse.
Her eyes fell on Kisuke then. His eyes were wide and red. Her eyes widened.
"What happened?" she asked and then Unohana came into her field of vision.
"Lieutenant Inari, how do you feel right now?" she asked and Risa frowned.
"I feel fine, tired, but fine. What happened?" she asked firmer.
Unohana nodded.
"Captain Urahara could not wake you. You were not waking no matter how hard he shook you. We came in because we heard him yelling your name. We proceeded to try to wake you with no results," she explained and Risa's eyes widened.
"W-What happened to me?" she asked nervously.
Unohana glanced at the people in the room.
"Perhaps we can speak outside where it is more private," she said, but the moment Risa went to stand Kisuke had her hand tightly in his.
Risa looked at him. His eyes looked so haunted. She smiled at him lightly.
"You can tell me here, it's alright, I don't mind," she said calmly.
Unohana nodded.
"You transferred some of your life force to Captain Urahara when he was injured, am I correct?" she asked bluntly and Risa was shocked she knew.
"I knew it!" Yoruichi said loudly.
"How reckless..." Mayuri muttered.
"Life force?" Sui-Feng questioned.
"Are you nuts, dumbass?!" Hiyori snapped.
Risa blushed.
"He was dying. He was going to die. And we didn't have any healers with us. So I did what I had to so that he wouldn't die," she admitted and everyone fell silent.
"And you're paying the price for it," Unohana said and Risa shrugged.
"I feel fine. I was just tired. I needed rest," she tried and Unohana emitted a green glow, pressing her hand to her chest.
Risa sighed.
"I'm fine, really," she persisted.
"I'd like to run some tests," Unohana said and already had injected her.
Risa cursed under her breath at the equally persistent woman. Unohana smiled.
"I will be in touch. Don't go far," she said and left with her lieutenant.
Risa watched her go and then turned to the room full of people. She rolled her eyes.
"Captain Unohana is exaggerating. I was just in a deep sleep. I'm tired," she said aloofly.
Yoruichi and Sui-Feng eyed her before leaving hesitantly. Hiyori walked up to Risa.
"Don't be an idiot, dumbass. Use your head," she said knocking on her Lieutenant's head.
Then she left with Mayuri and Risa was left with Kisuke. She looked at him, but he wasn't looking at her.
"I'm fine," she whispered, but he didn't say anything.
She stood and sat on his bed carefully touching his hand. She could feel him tense slightly. It was then she realized he was shaking. She let her hand skim across his cheek and he looked at her then. His eyes were so grey and glassy.
"D-Don't ever do that again," he whispered and she wiped at his eyes gently.
"You were dying, Kisuke. You were dying and it was all I could think of to keep you from dying," she admitted.
Kisuke shook his head and grabbed her cheeks in his hands.
"You wouldn't wake up. You wouldn't wake up when I shook you, when I called your name. I thought you had—" he stopped abruptly and shut his eyes.
Risa wrapped her arms around his trembling form and he buried his head in the crook of her neck.
"I'm right here. I'm okay," she whispered and kissed his head lovingly.
Kisuke looked at her.
"I don't think I'd be able to handle you dying for me," he admitted lowly.
Risa smiled.
"Well, there's an easy solution to that," she said and he looked at her confused.
Risa grinned.
"Don't die, dummy!" she yelled and a smile broke out onto his face as she tackled him.
