Chapter 53: Traveling

"So, where are we going again?" Pirika asked as they made their way down a deserted road.

"Colorado," Anna answered.

"That's like, a long ways away," Tamao pointed out.

"Opacho says it is one thousand, one hundred and seven miles," Opacho pointed out.

"And we're going there?" Tamao whined.

"That's where we need to go," Ayamae said.

"Are we walking the whole way?" Pirika complained. After all, her and Tamao weren't used to this kind of travelling.

"Don't be stupid," Anna said, rolling her eyes. "We're just walking until our ride comes." She motioned behind her to where Ryu was using his Oversoul Bigthumb as they walked.

Jun smiled at the younger girls. "Don't worry," she said. "It shouldn't take too much longer."

Meanwhile with the boys…

"Ugh, couldn't we have taken more time to just rest?" Horohoro complained.

"With Anna-san and Ayamae-san, I don't think so," Manta mused.

"Wimps," Ren scuffed.

"We must press forward," Lyserg said.

"Rest would not be amiss, however," Faust pointed out.

"Rest is not found in the mist!" Chocolove joked.

Nobody laughed.

"BILLY!" Ryu cried out. No blue truck appeared.

"How are you feeling?" Yoh asked.

"I should be asking you that, you're the one with the nasty bump to the head," Hao replied.

"Faust said I was fine," Yoh shrugged. "It's a little tender, but it'll keep Anna from smacking me."

Hao laughed at that. "I guess that's true." Both boys watched their fiancées for a while in silence.

"But really," Yoh said. "How are you?"

Hao smiled. "Better, now."

Yoh nodded. "Good."

"BILLY!" Ryu shouted, throwing his arms around a startled Yoh. "Billy hasn't come."

Yoh patted Ryu on the back. "He'll show up," he comforted. "He's probably just stuck somewhere."

Some three miles down the road Billy tapped his fingers on his steering wheel as an endless line of marathon runners raced across the road. At long last, the last runner that could be seen raced by, and Billy wasted no time in moving forward.

"Billy!" Ryu called out happily as the blue truck came into view.

"Yo," Billy raised a hand, studying the group before him as they piled in the back of his truck. He wasn't sure they'd all fit, but they managed just fine, and with directions from the scary blond girl, he was off.

"A train, really," Horohoro scoffed as Billy dropped them at the train station.

"In my country, we have 33 trains in the main city alone," Ren informed them.

"It's the fastest way there," Anna said as she directed Manta to purchase their tickets. Manta sighed and did as he was told.

Soon, the rather large, dysfunctional group was on the train and they were off. It would take them the better part of 24 hours to arrive in Colorado, but at least they could rest on the way.

"Go fish!" Chocolove exclaimed gleefully.

"Dude, that doesn't mean you're winning," Horohoro pointed out.

"But it means he has one less match then he could have had," Chocolove said.

"Aha!" Manta said, drawing his card before laying down the book of aces. "Just what I was looking for."

"Yeah, not so much," Horohoro told Chocolove.

"Who has the eight of spades?" Jun asked, frustrated that she couldn't play half her cards because it was missing.

Anna smirked as she studied her hand. She had quite a few rows blocked off, making it difficult for anyone to set a card down. This is why she loved Sevens.

Yoh and Hao made their way back from the dinning car with bags of food balanced in their arms.

"Why did we have to get the food," Yoh whined.

Hao laughed at him. "I think Anna and Aya called it 'extra training' for us."

"Why?"

"Because we have to carry it all?" Hao said simply.

Both boys stopped in unison and glanced at each other. With a nod, they carefully set the bags down and turned, Amidamaru and Spirit of Fire by the sides.

"Well, well, well, a couple of shamans. Didn't expect that, now did we, sister?"

"No, not at all."

Hao and Yoh studied the two girls before them, both dark haired with plenty of eyeliner around their bright blue eyes.

"Leave us be," Yoh said. "We don't want to hurt you."

"You hurt us?" the first girl scoffed. "As if."

And before either Yoh or Hao could say another word, the two girls attacked. Yoh dodged the crack of a whip from the second girl and Hao rolled away from what appeared to be a rather spikey dodge ball.

"Amidamaru," Yoh said.

"Here," Amidamaru answered, responding to Yoh's call.

Yoh held his Spirit of Sword and dodged another crack of the whip.

"You're not too shabby," his opponent decided, before sending her whip at him again. Yoh dodged and winced as the train car's lights were destroyed.

Hao dodged once more as he held his flame sword. "Why don't you attack?" his opponent asked, sounding rather annoyed.

"Like my brother said, we don't want to hurt you," Hao said, dodging the ball once more.

"I doubt you even could," the girl told him, dancing around him. Hao turned and barely brought his sword up in time to block her next attack.

"Why are you doing this?" Yoh asked as he moved out of the way of the whip once more.

The girl laughed. "We don't meet many other shamans," she said.

"And when we do," her sister put in. "We take them out."

"This is our turf, after all," Yoh's opponent finished.

"A train is your turf?" Hao asked, confused.

"That's right," his opponent stated.

"Got a problem with that?" the other girl asked. She flicked her whip at Hao rather unexpectedly, missing his face by a centimeter. Hao backed up, glaring at her, and Yoh looked rather pissed about it. After all, you didn't switch opponents in the middle of a fight. It was dishonorable.

Hao met his brother's eyes and nodded. It was time to knock these girls off their high horses.

The next time his opponent threw her ball, Hao didn't dodge and he didn't bring his sword up to bat it away. Instead, he sliced clean through the ball, causing it to explode into flames as it fell to either side of him. Hao turned his sword on the stunned girl, who backed away.

Yoh dodged the whip once more, but reached out with his hand, grabbing it and yanking it so suddenly his opponent let out a startled yelp and let go. Yoh tossed the whip beside the smoking remains of the ball and backed the girl up next to her sister.

"Have a good day," Yoh said cheerfully, turning around and gathering up the food they had gotten for everyone.

"I would really be careful about who you challenge," Hao told them as they watched, wide eyed. "Not everyone is as nice as my brother."

Hao offered the girls one last, cold smile, before following his brother into the next, undamaged, train car.

"Anna's gonna kill me," Yoh said as they made their way back to their group.

"Why?" Hao asked, confused. She didn't need to know about what had just happened.

"The food's cold," Yoh said.

"Crap."
