Chapter 50

Elsa sat in the throne room. Alone, she tried to recall how she got there in the first place but found no memory. For some reason, she felt troubled as if something was amiss. Something is wrong but what? She stood up abruptly and walked towards the doors. She couldn't sit any longer. She needed to figure out what seemed out of place. Elsa had only walked half way when the doors were thrown open. A parade of people entered the room, Haavard lead the way with two guards carrying a struggling person. When their head snapped up, Elsa gasped. It was Alexis.

"Let me go!" she yelled.

"What is the meaning of this?" Elsa demanded.

Haavard frowned, "I have questions and she refused to answer."

"That doesn't give you the right to restrain her! Release her, this instant!"

"First answer this, are you romantically involved with this woman?"

Elsa blinked. He knew? But how? She looked at Alexis. No longer fighting the guards, the girl looked just as frightened and confused. Suddenly, Anna and Kristoff scrambled into the room.

"Elsa, I'm sorry. I tried to stop them!" Anna cried.

"Queen Elsa, please answer the question. Is there a relationship between you two?" Haavard pressed once more.

All eyes were on her. Even the guards watched their Queen carefully. She locked eyes with Alexis and she shook her head slightly. The easy thing to do was lie. All she had to do was say no. Elsa met Haavard's gaze.

"Yes, it's true."

He sighed, "I see."

"Let her go," she commanded.

"I don't think that's a wise decision, Your Majesty. After all, we can't have a dangerous person run freely around the kingdom."

"What are you talking about? I'm not dangerous!" Alexis objected. Haavard turned to her.

"Not dangerous? If my information is correct, you have powers as well. Ones you have no control over. Do you even know what you're capable of besides the little you know?" He addressed the entire room, "She could harm any of us at anytime. She is not from this world! Even you Queen Elsa, are not safe from her."

The guards looked warily at Alexis. Elsa didn't know how to defend her. They knew so little about her gift.

"Alexis has never harmed anyone!" Anna broke in. "The trolls told us what exactly her powers can do."

"Are we really going to put our trust in trolls?" Haavard scoffed.

"My Grand Pabbie will be wiser than you'll ever be!" Kristoff yelled.

"Please Your Majesty, you have to think clearly. What will your people say or your allies? This relationship isn't possible!"

"What do you propose I do? Forget everything. Pretend I don't have feelings for this girl? I love her. Nothing you say will change that," Elsa refused.

"You would risk everything for her?"

"No, she won't."

Elsa faced Alexis as she pulled away from the guards. She stared at Elsa sadly, "I can't let you do that. I'll leave. I'm not worth it."

"No!" Elsa cried. "Wait, I need time to think about this decision."

All at once, voices invaded her head. Their desperate pleas tried to sway her to one side. Her sister begging for Elsa to fight, her advisor demanding she let go of this silly dream, and others chiming in on opposing sides. Elsa couldn't process their words. She felt overwhelmed as their voices swirled around her. She covered her ears trying to block out the noise. Alexis's voice had not been heard for she tried to break past the guards so she could get to Elsa. Frustration rose inside Elsa as she shut her eyes. The arguments rose in volume and she couldn't handle it any longer.

"STOP!"

Elsa's knees hit the ground as a sense of relief released from her body. A scream pierced her ears and she snapped her head up. A horrid scene displayed before her. Her icy curse had claimed another victim. Everyone had taken cover and hit the ground. All of them, except one. Elsa expected another frozen statue but it was worse, much worse.

Nothing but shock had crossed Alexis's face as she looked down. An icicle pierced right through her abdomen and blood began to spread around her clothes. She had been able to break away from the guards and made it a few feet away from Elsa before the magic exploded from her body. A scream escaped Elsa's throat once she fully realized what she had done. Alexis crumpled to the floor and Elsa lunged forward to catch her. Both of them fell to the ground as Elsa held Alexis in her arms and thawed the icicle from her body. Elsa tried to apply pressure but the blood was spilling much too quickly. Tears made her vision blurry.

"Alexis! No, please! I'm sorry!" Elsa sobbed. She started to freeze over the wound but Alexis weakly pushed her hand away.

"Just stop," she croaked. Alexis coughed and blood splattered on her lips.

"Let me help you. Oh god, I lost control!"

"Why did you do this?"

"I didn't mean-"

"I thought you loved me."

"I do! I love you! I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry! I'm so sorry..." Elsa caressed her face, "Please don't leave me…"

Tears slipped down her face and fell on Alexis's cheek. Alexis turned away from her as she shed her own tears. Anger and betrayal clearly expressed on her face. Elsa body shook with each sob and she pulled Alexis closer. Once Alexis's breathing became shallow and faint, Elsa placed a final soft kiss on her cheek. Forgive me. I never wanted to hurt you.

"You killed her."

Elsa looked up. Anna stood over her, teal eyes burning with rage.

"Anna, I'm-"

"Take her away," Anna demanded.

"What?"

The two guards roughly grabbed her and yanked her away from Alexis. Elsa fought against their grip. No, she couldn't leave her like that! Elsa needed to be with her!

"Look what you've done. You killed her!" Anna shouted. "They were right about you. You're dangerous. You are a monster."

"No! Anna! You don't believe that!"

"Yes, I do. I've made excuses for you my whole life but you're nothing more than a wicked sorceress! We should have locked you away years ago."

Elsa's eyes fell to the ground unable to face her angry sister. She's right. I'm a monster. She stared at Alexis, who remained on the ground in her own blood. The crimson color completely covered Elsa's dress and hands in a bright shade. No one was at her side any longer. She killed her love who died hating her and now Anna stared at her with such hatred, Elsa could feel it burn into her skin.

"Throw her in the dungeon. We'll find a suitable punishment for the murder she's committed," Haavard chimed in.

Elsa couldn't use her powers. It would only prove what they believed. As the guards pull her away, Elsa called out to her sister.

"Anna, I'm sorry! Please don't do this!"

Anna turned away from her and Kristoff held her closely as she sobbed into his chest. Elsa watched the couple. Her body pulled into the darkness and they started to fade away.

"ANNA!"

A blood curdling scream ripped through the silent night as Elsa shot up from her bed. Her entire chest heaved at the same pace of racing her heart. She threw off her blanket and examined her body in the search of blood. No, she was in her nightgown, completely clean. She raised her hands. Spotless. Was it all a nightmare? Everything seemed too real... She scanned the room to find it covered in ice and she cringed at the sight of the jagged spikes protruding from high up the walls. Elsa jumped at the sound of her door hitting the wall.

Anna rushed towards her, "Elsa!"

Still panicked from her nightmare, Elsa flinched at her sister's touch and tried to move away.

"Elsa-"

"I'm sorry Anna. I didn't mean to..."

She was pulled into Anna's arms, "Elsa what happened? I heard you scream and I was so scared something happened to you!"

"I didn't mean to hurt anyone," she repeated.

"Hurt who? You haven't done anything wrong! Did you have a bad dream?"

Then it's true. It was nothing more than an awful nightmare. Anna was being kind and there was no blood or a body in sight. Then, the images from her dream rushed through her mind once again. Elsa clung on to Anna and cried on her shoulder as the pain and guilt returned with it. Anna spoke softly and gently rubbed her back trying to calm her down.

"It was so horrible, Anna!"

"Sh, it's okay. I'm right here. Do you want me to get Alexis too?"

Elsa shook her furiously. She had forgotten Alexis went to her room after Elsa decided they should spend a night apart because of the incident with Alexis's hands earlier that day. But with such a nightmare running through her mind, she wasn't sure she could face Alexis just yet. Right now she needed her sister's comforting hugs and supportive words more than anything. To reassure Elsa that she was in reality and her sister did not hate her... and Alexis wasn't dead. Anna continued to hold her as she quieted down and only her tears fell.

"Do you remember what happened?" Anna asked.

Elsa nodded although wished she didn't remember.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

She sighed. No, she didn't want to recall that awful scene but it would be best to talk about it with someone. Elsa pulled away from her sister and wiped her eyes. However, it proved pointless because her tears returned as she shared the nightmare with Anna. Once she finished, Anna embraced her once again.

"Oh Elsa, it was just a dream. That's never going to happen," Anna comforted.

"W-what if it does? I lost control and froze your heart. I can easily do it again!" Elsa cried.

"But you've never hurt Alexis," Anna pointed out.

Shame covered Elsa's face as she looked away, "I did..."

"What do you mean? When did this happen?"

"This afternoon, I was upset and I froze her hands because I was holding them. Don't you see, I'm dangerous, Anna!"

"You're not dangerous! You made a mistake! Did Alexis get mad or scared?"

"She looked frightened when it happened but after I removed the ice, she wasn't mad. I felt so guilty but she kept telling me it was alright."

"See! Everything is fine."

"No, it's not! What if it's a sign? What if I do hurt her more seriously than before?"

Anna took Elsa's hands, "I know you're scared. Yes, you have hurt me but it was never on purpose. I understand it's been hard to get close to anyone because of your powers but for months you've learned to be comfortable with me and now Alexis. Please don't throw all your progress away because of a mistake. We all love and trust you. Always remember, you do have control. You are strong."

"Do really believe that..."

"I'll always believe in you."

"Thank you, Anna," Elsa hugged her; "I love you."

"I love you, too. Do you want me to stay with you?"

"No, I didn't mean to drag you out of bed and I'm sure Kristoff is worried. You should go back to bed."

"Are you sure?"

Elsa nodded. They hugged once more and Anna headed back to her room but stopped at the door.

"I can still get Alexis."

She shook her head so Anna left with a sigh. Of course her sister didn't want her to be alone after a nightmare but Elsa was still unsure of herself. She wanted to believe Anna but her fear kept convincing her otherwise. She practically froze the entire room while unconscious. She needed to be more careful around others. Elsa curled up underneath the sheets thankful Alexis's room was too far to hear anything. She wanted to be alone.

We all love and trust you

You shouldn't.

You do have control.

No, I don't. I never did.

You are strong.

Then why am I dying on the inside?

They lay there like a forgotten memory. Untouched and hidden away, Elsa never thought she had to see them again. There were just a spare she kept in case of an emergency. She had come so far since she stored them away but now...

Has it come to this? Have I lost all confidence? Is my fear this strong?

Elsa knew the answer. She reached in and pulled on the soft teal gloves over her hands. Along with her gloves came the insecurity, the fear, and the isolation. But it was only for a few days until she trusted herself again. Then the gloves would come off. Elsa looked down once more at her covered hands and her eyes watered.

It's time to start another day.

I stood outside the door internally conflicted on whether or not to enter Elsa's room. No one has been in there except Anna and each time she left, she had the same defeated look on her face but she wouldn't tell me anything because Elsa told her not to. Everything had been the same for the past two days. Elsa barely spoke to me and locked herself in her study or her bedroom. She gave no explanation for her behavior. A sudden wall dropped between us. It broke my heart that she decided to shut me out. I felt betrayed. I mean after everything we've been through...

At first, I tried to respect her privacy and waited until she was ready to open up. But it seemed like she avoided me and only me. When I approached her, Elsa seemed scared and hid her hands behind her back. She assured everything was fine but was busy at the moment and darted off in another direction. I blamed the incident with my hands for her strange actions but last night pushed me over the edge. I caught her before bed where she refused to let me in her room and tried to excuse it with a goodnight kiss. Our lips barely touched. It was quick and emotionless. It wasn't Elsa. I felt like I lost her.

Now, I'm just angry. I deserved a reason. I'm her girlfriend and she couldn't push me to the side! This was the same problem we almost broke up over! She promised me no more secrets. I can't let her hide anymore. I grabbed the door knob and luckily it wasn't locked so I barged my way in. I found Elsa curled up in her bed.

"What are you doing?"

I slammed the door behind me, "We need to talk."

"T-talk?" Elsa squeaked.

"Elsa, what did I do? Why are you hiding from me? Please, if I did something wrong, let me fix it!"

"You didn't do anything wrong."

I approached her, "Then why are you shutting me out? You said you wouldn't do that to me."

"I know but-"

"Wait, what are you wearing?"

Elsa followed my gaze to her gloves and guilt covered her face as she tucked them under her arms, "Nothing."

"Els, what's going on?"

"You need to go."

"No, I'm not leaving! You're not pushing me away!" I protested. I tried to touch her but she retreated from my hand. Tears spilled down her face.

"I'm afraid," Elsa whispered.

"Why?"

"I hurt you and I'm scared it will happen again."

"I told you I forgive you! You won't-"

"You don't know that!" Elsa yelled. I jumped at her shout. Her eyes fell to her hands, "I had a nightmare. I lost control and I killed you."

My mouth fell open. What? Why didn't she tell me? I know how traumatizing nightmares can be.

She held herself tightly, "The ice went right through your body. There was so much blood. I couldn't stop it! You said I didn't love you and you wouldn't even look at me... You died in my arms and it was my fault."

"E-Elsa..." I choked out. My own tears fell, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I was ashamed. I already harmed you with my magic. I couldn't face you because I thought you would be scared of me and my powers."

"But I'm right here. I'm not afraid. I'm alive and I love you."

Elsa shook her head, "I can't risk it. Just leave me."

I grabbed her and pulled her up so she was standing with me. I started to take off her gloves. She panicked. The temperature dropped.

"S-stop! Alexis don't!" Elsa fought back trying to push me and take back her hands. I ignored her pleas and removed one of them. She ripped the other hand from me and protected her last glove.

"Stop fighting me," I growled. I snatched it back and forcefully took the other. She cried as snow fell lightly around us.

"W-why are y-you doing th-this?"

"Because you don't need them. You can't hide behind them and completely shut down. Most of all, you need to know I love you no matter what."

"Why? I'm just a monster..."

"No you're not. You are not a monster! That's your fear talking not you! You are so much more to me." I placed one of her hands over my heart, "If you're so afraid of the future, just do it now. Freeze me right now."

"No! Are you insane?"

"Maybe I am but I don't care if you ever strike me with your ice. I trust you. You're going to make mistakes. Sometimes you'll lose control but I love you and nothing will change that."

Elsa stared at me in astonishment like she couldn't believe I accepted her for everything. I knew the consequences if I stayed by her side but I'll never leave her. Her lip quivered as the tears rushed down her face and she jumped into my arms. I held on tightly to her. Suddenly, I started to cry with her.

"Don't ever pull away from me. I need you, Elsa. More than you know."

"I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I was foolish. I love you so much."

"I love you. Never forget that."

"I promise." Elsa whispered.

Neither of us spoke a word after that. We said what we needed to say. She threw out her gloves with a promise she never hide again. That's all I needed to hear. I wanted her to believe in me and our love but more than anything...

I needed Elsa to believe in herself.

A/N: I apologize if I broke any hearts or made you sad. I don't know why I wanted to write these two so bad. I felt angsty. Uh, I'll start the review responses now.

AVP5: Alexis will always be there for Elsa. You're right, no princess will steal her.

The Reaper13: Hm, I'm still deciding if that princess will show up later on. Yeah, Ariel was pretty popular before Frozen.

GnomeGirly: No need to apologize! Not everyone reviews. Thank you so much! I'm really happy you love the story.

DerpyPoodle: Wow thank you. Really, that means a lot to me. I'm perfectly content just making my readers happy and having big fans like you to be apart of it.

revealtheremedy: Oh, don't be too harsh on her. Elsa is a little insecure.

crazyguy1313: It's fine, we all get busy. I mean I was gone for two weeks.

Guest: It is neither due to carelessness or not rereading. I do look over my work and I apologize if I do miss a word or two. In my head, I know the word should be there and so my brain reads it like it is. I'm not a very trusting person. It's not that I'm against a helping hand but my work is very precious to me. I'll have to think about it.

RJCA27: Sweating through the eyeballs is difficult to fight. I hope I didn't cause it to flare up again. I'm glad you're loving the updates, I worked hard the chapters.

THExGR8xONE: Thank you! You reading and enjoying the story is enough. If you do, I wish you luck and I'll look out for it.

Mort Dans La Nuit: You know Alexis is smooth. She had to cheer Elsa up the best she could. I sorry these updates didn't have fluffies.

TheGalladeAcrossTheStreet: Welcome back. I did miss your reviews and presence but I knew I had to write on and hope the chapters were at their best. I'm happy you enjoyed them. I want to see Guardians of the Galaxy but it looks like I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

FrozenFairyTales: Thank you! I love making my readers happy.

Playgroundbuzz: I'm back! I'm sorry for taking so long.
