Freya
She buried her face in her hands. „Frey. Frey. Stop talking" she pleaded, not even looking up. „I know he wasn't the perfect husband, but there's no reason to talk like this about him. After all, I married him." She said quietly. For so many years, Njörd had been a part of her life. Mostly not a very good one, but still... there had been something between them. Even after her cheating on him, Njörd and her had their love-hate-relationship and Freya would be lying if her feelings now were not as contradictory. Frey was simply excessively explaining to Serena, Loki and the few other council members why they should be happy Njörd was dead. Frey was convinced somehow Njörd had attempted to kill him. Unfortunately, Loki was supporting him. But unlike her brother, he didn't show openly how much he enjoyed her husband's death.
-„Your Grace, Njörd gave us the most important hint himself: Hel. I know her quite well and believe me, killing it what she does best. What we don't know is who instigated Hel to kill Njörd. There's also the possibility Njörd himself commanded her to murder you, your Grace."
Loki still had his silver tongue, apparently. He looked to Serena, and she cleared her throat. „Njörd was happy before he died, almost euphoric. I wasn't focused on him, but he was practically radiating. I don't know how Hel works and why she would turn against him." She said carefully, almost shyly. Freya's daughter looked to her, her eyes filled with compassion, mixed with determination to find out the truth.
-„Heijastin. We have to ask the mirror." She said. Frey laughed „Sister, we don't need to. There's no reason at all."
-„Yes there is. If Odin finds out about Njörd being dead, he will most likely suspect you as murderers." Loki stated. Everyone watched him shocked as he spoke out a simple truth. „No one has evidence yet, but you would have motives." He raised his arched brows „And you don't want to lose your new independency into a war because of Njörd."
-„Heijastin's word does count as evidence." Frey said, his voice higher than usual. He was scared, because Loki really had a point.
Loki nodded. „The mirror is as clairvoyant as Heimdall."
Freya massaged her temples. „So we're done now?" she asked, ignoring her brother's nerved glanced.
Loki
„Exactly like in Snow White." Serena said as Loki finished to explain what Heijastin was. Although he had no idea what snow-white was, he just nodded. „I guess."
Loki was laying on his back while Serena sat crossed-legged next to him, picking up Marguerites and braiding them. Her gestures were accurate but calm, and the flowers seemed even more beautiful in her hands.
-„Then let the others take care of it. We have done enough." She muttered „Freya will find out what happened and then we can all forget this." It sounded so easy as she said it. But both of them knew how hard it would be to forget the past. „When we're married, there's no one that can stop us from being just us." She smiled so genuinely, Loki couldn't help but smile back. „No one can stop you from anything, Serena. I think everyone must have learned that lesson by now." He reached up, kissing her and bringing her down at the same time. She put the finished wreath in her hair and let him pull her down. Now she was on her back, laughing and squirming playfully. „You have to wear flowers on our wedding." He said, caressing her cheeks with one hand. Serena entangled her fingers in his hair and kissed him.
Frey
„Heijastin said, Hel loves to break bonds with people who don't hold up their ends of a contract. Njörd got more power from her to kill Serena's adoptive parents and to attack her. Then, he asked her to get me out of the way, and apparently Hel tricked him. The messenger from Asgard said Odin approves, but isn't pleased. Loki is getting away with no punishment at all when he marries Serena." Frey said to the very pale looking Freya.
He left her chambers and went back to his work room but bumped into something small and blonde in the hallways. „Lord Frey... I mean King Frey.. your Grace" she mumbled and curtsied. „I am so sorry."
„Yara, darling, calm down." He purred. Frey had always had a thing for the servant with the surprisingly dark eyes. Shame she was Serena's handmaiden now.
It teased him to see how nervous the girl suddenly was, although she knew him for so long. Guess him being the King made a difference after all. „Yes, your Grace." She muttered, still not looking up to him. „I was just..." her voice broke as he raised her chin so that her dark eyes met his violet ones. He pushed her into a corner behind a marble column and savoured the pink blush on her pale skin. „You're my favourite servant, Yara, you don't have to apologize" he whispered and kissed her soft, pink lips. After a moment of surprise, Yara moaned and returned the kiss. He pushed her against the column and slipped his hand under her dress –
Yara gasped and pushed him away. She was watching something behind him, so he turned around.
Serena had the same expression of shock on her face than Yara. „Get a room you two. Please." she pursed her lips as if she was repulsed, but Frey saw she was just holding back her laughter.
-„I am the King of Vanaheimr..." he started, but Serena winked.
-„Which is your favourite sentence since you were crowned. I get it, I don't mind you doing whatever.." she pointed at Yara, how looked like she wanted to be invisible. „...But you're my uncle and she's my handmaiden, so please do it somewhere where I don't have to see it."
„Do what?"
Great. Surely, the god of mischief had to be in every awkward situation.
He appeared behind Serena, and the sparkle in his eyes revealed he already knew the answer. „Nothing. Just something I'm already trying to forget." Serena shook her head, took Loki's hand and guided him away from them. She turned her head once again and blinked, a big grin on her face.
„You will marry in two weeks. I prepared a guest list, but you're allowed to invite whoever you want. And I demanded a tailor to make you the prettiest dress ever." Freya said at the dinner table. „Great. But how can the Midgardians come here?" Serena asked, her face glowing with excitement.
-„The Bifrost is almost repaired. Your human brother and your friends can come." It had been hard for Freya to accept Serena called the boy brother. It seemed like she didn't like the thought of her daughter having another family.
Serena noticed that Loki didn't seem so pleased neither.
„You can chose if you want the ceremony to take place in the throne room or in one of the gardens" she changed the topic. As mother, she was so full of happiness and pride of her daughter she didn't want a delicate topic as the Migardians known as the Avengers standing on the guest list spoil anything for them.
„In a garden, of course." Serena answered smiling up to Loki.
„So my Princess wants to marry me in a garden?" Loki asked between two kissed, sounding breathless after they got back in their chambers. „Yes." Serena breathed, only to open her lips and deepening the kiss. Loki opened the laces of her dress. His eyes roamed over her body as he stopped the kissing to watch her. Serena's cheeks blushed slightly, but she didn't cover herself. „Your turn." She said and pushed him on the bed, placing herself on his lap. Then she slowly opened his tunic, while his hands began to explore her soft skin, leaving hot trails with his touch. Serena moaned and closed her eyes as he laid on top of her, kissing and touching every inch of her body.
Hi guys, I'm sorry there's not so much going on in this chapter, but I needed it to tie up some loose ends (like how the Bifrost is suddenly intact in Thor 2;))
Next chapter will be the last, so prepare for the big wedding ;)
Liebe Grüße & lots of love
