"Mitsumi... I wish you were dead!" Misty's words repeated several times in Mitsumi's head. Ash stared at Mitsumi's solemn face and said, "Is something wrong, Mitsumi? You're usually never this depressed." Mitsumi replied, "I'm sorry, it's just that... Why does Misty hate me?" Ash looked up embarassingly and said, "Oh... She's just going through a tough time right now, so maybe... uhh... you shouldn't bother her right now." Mitsumi sighed, "Oh." Ash thought, "Poor Mitsumi. All she really wants is to be friends with Misty. I wish there was something I could do." He then said to Mitsumi, "You know what would cheer you up? Let's go on a walk." Mitsumi smiled and nodded, "Okay."
#55: MISTY OR MITSUMI
Chibi looked at her low grades and sighed, "What did I do to deserve this?" Sakura stared at her grades and laughed, "Ha ha ha. I didn't think it would be long before the school realized that you weren't actually old enough to be a college student. If you keep this up, you may need a tutor!" Chibi became angry and said, "Well, fine then! I'll get a tutor, then I'll show you!" Sakura laughed, "Ha ha ha, sure, whatever!" Chibi huffed and left the room.
Meanwhile, Ash and Mitsumi passed Misty's room on the way out of the dorm. Ritchie saw them and said, "Oh, hey guys. What's up?" Mitsumi bowed and said, "I am fine, and how are you Ritchie?" Ritchie sweatdropped, "Oh, well... I'm good too. Actually, I came to see Misty. I think something's wrong with her. She's gotten really depressed lately. Actually, Ash, as her best friend, you should probably be the one talking to her!" Ash thought about when he had slapped Misty weeks ago and sighed, "Maybe later..." Ash and Mitsumi left the dorm.
Ritchie knocked on Misty's door. When nobody answered, Ritchie turned the knob and found the door open. Inside, Misty was stabbing a doll on the ground shaped like Mitsumi. Ritchie asked, "What are you doing, Misty?" Misty looked angrily at Ritchie and yelled, "Get out!" Ritchie sighed, "Misty. Why don't you let us help you instead of pushing us away?" Misty yelled, "I told you to get out!" She walked towards Ritchie grabbing his neck as he backed away. Ritchie sighed, "Fine, Misty. Do what you want, but I'll just say this. You're not the Misty I knew. The real Misty was alwsys nice and cheerful, not what you've become! Oh yeah, and I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but Ash and Mitsumi were heading out together just now." Misty let go of Ritchie and yelled, "Ash!" She ran out of the room leaving Ritchie on the floor. He whispered, "But Misty..."
Ash and Mitsumi took a walk around Puzzle League Village to clear their minds. Ash tried to start a conversation, "So, it's a beautiful day, isn't it?" Looking up, he found the sky to be dark, as if a storm was coming. He sighed, "Anyway..." Mitsumi smiled to cheer up Ash, "So, Ash. How do you think of school so far? Finals will come soon so we should do our best to study." Ash could tell that Mitsumi was at the point of trying too hard to be cheerful.
Suddenly, Ash sensed someone behind him and turned around. In the distance, he could see Misty running after him. Ash gasped and gripped Mitsumi's hand and yelled, "Hurry! We have to hide!" Ash brought Mitsumi into an alley while Misty passed. Mitsumi then asked, "Why?" Ash looked at Mitsumi and thought, "What?" Mitsumi sighed, "Why must we hide from our friend?" Ash looked at Mitsumi sighed, "You're right, Mitsumi..."
Sakura knocked on Tracey's door. Tracey answered and sweatdropped, "Oh, hehe, hello Sakura. What a pleasant..." Chibi popped up under him and said, "Look who came by..." Sakura gasped, "Chibi?! Tracey, what the hell is Chibi doing here?" Tracey explained, "Chibi came by earlier saying that she needed a tutor, so I felt like it was my job to tutor her since she's so young." Chibi snickered, "Hehe, a better question would be what are you doing here, Sakura?" Sakura blushed and screamed, "You little brat!" Chibi stuck her tongue out and lowered her eyelid. She then slammed the door at Sakura. Sakura grumbled, "Argh!"
Misty stomped back to her dorm and yelled, "That stupid jerk! I know he was there somewhere with that girl!" She started going wild and tore up a pillow. She yelled, "Mitsumi, I swear that one day..." Suddenly, Green walked in the room seeing Misty tearing the pillow. She walked away and sighed, "I don't need to take this crap. I'm finding somewhere else to sleep tonight." Misty watched Green leave and yelled, "Fine! I don't need you! Did you think I did?!" She broke down and cried, "I don't need anybody..."
Suddenly, her phone rang. She didn't get up to answer it. The answering machine then came on, and Ash began speaking, "Misty? Are you there? It's me, Ash." Misty gasped and answered the phone, "Ash? Why are you calling?" Ash replied, "I just wanted to say, that maybe you were right about Mitsumi. Maybe she's really not for me..." Misty suddenly began to half-smile, "So does that mean..." Ash said, "Let's go out, just you and me. We can meet tomorrow at noon in Puzzle League Square." Misty's heart skipped a beat. She said, "Alright, Ash! I'll be there!" She thought, "Could this be? Am I dreaming? I could have sworn he still loved that harlot."
Ash hanged up with Misty. Mitsumi asked, "Did you speak with Misty?" Ash answered, "Yes, and she seemed a little happier today." Mitsumi smiled and said, "I'm glad that you found a way to cheer her up." Ash said, "Yeah... but you know what? I realized that I truly think you're the one for me, so I suggest that we go for a walk tomorrow. It will be just you and me." Mitsumi blushed, "Are you sure that we should? Wouldn't Misty get angry?" Ash said, "Just trust me." Mitsumi smiled and nodded. Ash said, "Excellent. You can meet me tomorrow at noon in Puzzle League Square." He thought to himself, "This is a long shot, but if I can pull this off, everything will be like it used to... before all of this..."
Meanwhile, Green knocked on a random door. Dash answered and asked, "Green? What are you doing here?" Green sweatdropped, "Dash. If you don't put on a shirt, I swear I'll..." Dash screamed putting on his shirt on, "I'm putting it on, I'm putting it on." Green said, "Anyway, I'm going to sleep here tonight because tomboy over there is having some kind of emotional breakdown." Brock said, "Misty's having an emotional breakdown? Hmmm, I'm willing to bet it's just teenage angst. Stupid teenagers and their angst. I hate it. Oh, I hate it!" Dash yelled, "Quiet, Brock! A woman is actually going to sleep with us, so we don't want to scare her off. Remember what women have..." Brock said, "But it's only Green..." Green held up her fist and grumbled, "I'm reminded of why I hate you two."
"And this is how you do the problem," said Tracey explaining something to Chibi. Chibi said, "Oh, I get it!" She then thought to herself, "What is he babbling about?" Tracey said, "Good, I'm glad you understand it." Chibi then asked, "Hey, do you think that we could go out sometime, like say tomorrow?" Tracey gulped, "Err... what are you talking about Chibi?" Chibi reverted to her child self and smiled saying, "Come on, Tracey. Even if I was like this?" Tracey sighed, "How could I turn down a face like that?" Meanwhile, Sakura paced outside their room thinking, "What could those two be planning? What did she mean by going out? That stupid brat is driving me nuts! I'll have to pay them a little visit tomorrow..."
The next day, Misty excitedly walked towards Puzzle League Square. She thought, "Could this be the day that the two of us are reunited?" She carried a box of chocolate and said, "I hope Ash will like this present." Upon reaching the square, she found Mitsumi standing there in her best dress. Mitsumi waved, "Hello!" Misty dropped the chocolates and said, "What are you doing here?" Mitsumi said, "Waiting for someone special... From the looks of your clothing, I'd say you were waiting for someone special as well..." She giggled. Misty sighed, "Whatever. Heh, I can't wait to see your face when you find out who I'm going out with..." Meanwhile, Ash who watched them behind a bush said, "Oh, but the date has already begun."
Mitsumi looked up at the sky and said, "Isn't it a beautiful day?" Misty looked up and saw storm clouds everywhere. She sweatdropped, "That sounds like something Ash would say." Mitsumi said, "You know what else?" Misty sighed, "Would you just shut up?" Mitsumi said, "But Misty, I'm only trying to start a conversation." Misty yelled, "Don't you get it? I still hate you!" Mitsumi said in her most innocent voice, "Why?" Misty stuttered, "I-I-I just do! That's all! So, just stop talking so I can wait for Ash!" Mitsumi just smiled at her. Misty sweatdropped, "You're really creeping me out..."
Suddenly, raindrops fell from the sky. Mitsumi held out her hand and said, "It looks like rain..." She took out an umbrella and said, "Care to join me?" Misty stood under the rain shivering and said, "No! I'm fine right where I am!" She felt a strong breeze and sighed.
Meanwhile, Green looked out the window and noticed how dark it was. She said, "Brock! Dash! Come here quick! The weather looks horrible." Brock turned on the television to the news. The reporter said, "So be careful when going outside because there will be strong breezes and a high chance of rain. The breeze is so strong that..." Suddenly, the reporter was blown away. Dash laughed, "I love the news."
Sakura, who had also been watching the news, gasped, "Oh no! Tracey's probably out there!" Meanwhile, Tracey and Chibi looked at the rain. Tracey said, "Maybe it was a bad idea going out after all..." Chibi sighed, "But..." Tracey said, "Chibi, our safety is more important." He saw Misty and Mitsumi standing on the corner of Puzzle League Square and thought, "That's odd. I thought those two were mad at each other."
Mitsumi steadily walked closer to Misty with her umbrella. Misty sweatdropped, "Will you move away from me? Ahchoo!" Mitsumi said, "But Misty, you're catching a cold. I think you need this umbrella." She handed it to Misty. Misty shouted, "I don't need your pity!" Misty kept Mitsumi's umbrella anyway.
Suddenly, the strong wind blew the umbrella away from Misty's grip as she gasped, "Crap!" Mitsumi ran after the umbrella and said, "No! You were supposed to protect her." She chased the umbrella over a large hill. Finally, in an attempt to grab it, Mitsumi jumped off the hill towards the umbrella. Misty yelled, "What are you doing?!" She ran under Mitsumi and broke her fall. Mitsumi, who had grabbed the umbrella, smiled, "Thanks for saving me." Misty said, "I didn't do anything." Mitsumi merely smiled and said, "Be careful, Misty. Your nice side is showing." Misty blushed and yelled, "What did you mean by that?! Anyway, if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to the square to meet with my beloved Ash."
Misty checked to see if anyone was following her and only found Mitsumi behind her holding a Hoppip. She yelled, "What are you still doing here? And where did you suddenly get that Hoppip?" Mitsumi giggled, "It just blew into my hands. You'll have to thank the wind for that one." The wind blew the Hoppip away as Misty sighed, "I can't believe it." Both of them ran after the Hoppip. Hoppip cried, "Hoppip!" as it blew across Puzzle League Square.
Tracey watched them and thought, "Now what could those two be doing?" Misty jumped after the Hoppip and finally caught it again. She then comforted it, "That's okay, Hoppip. You'll be fine." Mitsumi smiled at Misty. Misty screamed, "And what are you looking at?" Mitsumi said, "Oh, nothing." She spotted a photo booth and said, "Oh, Misty..." Misty sighed, "What now?" Mitsumi dragged her into a photo booth and took several pictures of them together. Misty looked at all of the pictures and said, "What a waste of money. I'm not even smiling in any of them." Mitsumi scribbled something down on one of the photos and said, "Oh, it doesn't matter what's on the picture. It's the picture itself." She giggled and handed Misty the photo. She said, "You can choose to read what I wrote down or not. It doesn't matter much to me." Misty sighed and took the photo, "Why is it that you can be so damn cheerful all the time?"
Meanwhile, in Brock's room, Dash said, "She's evil!" Brock said, "No, she definitely has to be a Guardian." Ash sweatdropped, "Shut up you two. I'm not bringing Mitsumi into any of this and I hope you never will either." Dash gasped, "How did you get in here, bro? More importantly, why are you here?" Green snuggled next to Ash and said, "It's because he wants to be close to me." Ash sweatdropped, "Whatever, Green."
Mitsumi laughed, "I know that deep inside, you like me too." Misty sighed, "What makes you think that?" Mitsumi said, "Oh, nothing." Misty said, "And that's another thing. You're always so damn ambiguous in every one of your responses!" Mitsumi said, "Sometimes less is more..." Misty yelled, "What does that have anything to do with what I'm talking about?"
"Hoppip!" said the little Hoppip in Misty's arms. Misty said, "Oh yeah, I guess I forgot about you, little one. Don't worry, once I see Tracey and/or Chibi, I'll get them to capture you." The strong wind suddenly blew Hoppip away as Misty yelled, "Damn it!" They both ran after the Hoppip.
The rain began to fall heavily as several drivers were completely blinded by the rain. They began bumping into various fire hydrants. Tracey covered Chibi with his clothes and said, "We should get out of here fast!" Sakura then greeted them, "Hey, Tracey! So that's where you are brat. I just came here because I figured both of you would be overwhelmed by this rain."
Meanwhile, Misty who chased the Hoppip into a road, jumped in front of a truck to save Hoppip. Mitsumi saw the truck coming and quickly tumbled in to save Misty. Misty gasped, "What happened?" Mitsumi saw the truck pass by and said, "Nothing that you should be overly concerned about. Now we should go back. Ash isn't coming..." Misty's ears suddenly perked up as she yelled, "What?!" Mitsumi said, "I overheard everything. This was pretty much an elaborate plan to get the two of us together." Misty yelled, "That liar! I bet you're the one that made him do this!" Mitsumi said, "No, it wasn't..." Misty yelled, "I should have never trusted you!"
The wind blew Hoppip away again, but this time Misty did not chase after it. Tracey yelled, "Flying Wing Power! Great Flying Ball!" Chibi yelled, "Grass Rose Power! Great Grass Ball!" "Combine!!" They caught Hoppip before it could be blown away again. Sakura said, "Nice work, you two. Now let's head back!"
Misty stared at the three and sighed, "Why can't my relationship be like that one? I can't stand this all!" Mitsumi said, "Misty, I can help..." Misty pushed her down in the middle of the road and yelled, "No, you can't! Nobody can!" Misty ran away as fast as she could leaving Mitsumi in the road. Mitsumi whispered, "Misty... I'm sorry I couldn't help..." A pair of lights shone on Mitsumi and she screamed.
Misty ran back towards the dorm to find all the other Guardians looking at her. Misty sighed, "What now? Do any of you think that you can help me solve some problem that I don't even have?" Ash said, "No, we just wanted to show you something..." He turned on the television to the news. The reporter stood in front of a body under a white sheet and said, "She was run over by a blinded truck driving in the pouring rain. Although we knew nothing of her past, we did catch that her name was Mitsumi. May she rest in peace."
Misty gasped, "No! She's..." Everyone solemnly nodded as she said, "But she helped me all those times, and..." She took out the photo that Mitsumi had given her and read the inscription that she had scribbled on. It read: "To Misty, I hope we can be friends forever. Signed, Mitsumi." Misty cried, "But this can't be! It's my fault! I left her on the road! Why did it have to be like this?" She breathed heavily, "Noooo!"

Mitsumi said, "I overheard everything.
