A/N:
People need to just chill out. This is just something I write for fun. If you're not happy with my ranting story you have a great solution, stop reading it. :)
Rosemary had just checked up on Tyrion and he was fast asleep. Maester Derran said it was from all the milk of the poppy. She tried to ask the Maester more but he wouldn't say much. Surely Tyrion was the one who told him not to speak much. Both of them also refused Grand Maester Gormon's help. She had seen and assisted many wounded and injured men from battles all her life and that bandage Tyrion didn't make her comfortable at all. Of course, they hadn't let her see the wound itself but she had not a good feeling about it.
After making sure the twins were also already sleeping she went to the Tower of the Hand to see her father. She found Robb there.
"Good, you're here." Mace Tyrell said.
She looked at Robb and then her father. "Bit late for a meeting..."
Mace Tyrell nodded. "Indeed. Better this way. It also allowed Lord stark here to rest and eat something so he can now listen and understand better what we have to say."
Rosemary sat down. She already knew what this was about. And yes, it was probably better if most people in the castle were asleep. And the sooner Robb knew the better.
"So what's all this about?" Robb asked.
Mace Tyrell cleared his voice and started speaking. "Lord Stark, first of all you must know that everything I'll say here and everything you'll say here is just between us. And I'm not judging. You can say your opinion without any restrictions. My daughter here is a witness."
Robb frowned a bit. "All right..."
"You were born during Robert's Rebellion in which your father Eddard actively participated. Well, I'm sure you know all the history to it, am I right?"
Robb raised an eyebrow. "Yes, I know the history."
"Well, I won't defend some of the less rational acts done by Aerys II Targaryen and as for the Rhaegar - Lyanna story, well, maybe some other day. Robert Baratheon killed Rhaegar, Jaime Lannister killed Aerys and Rhaegar's children were slaughtered by Tywin's men. Viserys Targaryen is dead but Daenerys is not."
"So is this about Daenerys Targaryen?" Robb asked.
"Partially. I'm sure the latest rumours reached Casterly Rock while you were there..."
Robb nodded. "Rumours say Daenerys married some westerosi man and she's coming to Westeros with an army. And the dragons."
Mace Tyrell nodded. "Correct."
Robb raised his eyebrows. "So... We'll be facing another war, is that it?"
"Lord Stark, personally I don't think a war needs to happen."
"How?" Robb looked at Rosemary surprised.
Mace continued. "Well, tell me your opinion first. Your personal opinion. Who has the right to the Iron Throne?"
Robb moved in his chair uncomfortably. "Is that a trick question?"
Mace smiled. "Not at all. Whatever you answer is it won't affect what is happening and won't affect what will happen to you now."
Robb seemed even more surprised. "Are you asking if I think Daenerys has the right to the throne?"
Mace Tyrell smiled again. "I'm asking, if there are Targaryens alive, Targaryens directly related to Aerys II and Rhaegar, who has the right to the throne?"
Robb closed his eyes for a second and then asked. "Are you supporting Daenerys claim? Is that it?"
"All right, I'm telling you my honest opinion first if that's what you want. It is well known that us, Tyrells were loyal to the Targaryens during Robert's Rebellion. Like I said, Aerys II wasn't not the perfect king, obviously, but Robert Baratheon wasn't either. Actually he was an usurper. I'm sure you know that when your father was Robert's Hand of the King, Robert wanted to murder Daenerys and your father opposed to it."
Robb nodded. "I remember."
"Well, Daenerys survived, not for Robert's lack of trying but because she had loyal friends. Do you know where Sir Barristan Selmy went after the Lannisters told him he was too old to be in the Kingsguard?"
Robb shook his head. "I don't know. He vanished... Wait... Is he with Daenerys?"
"Yes. Barristan Selmy, the bold. And the wise, I would say."
"So... When Daenerys arrives here, you'll be taking her side, is that it?" Robb asked.
"Something like that."
Robb chuckled amazed. "Something like that? What about Tommen? You're his Hand. Your daughter is the Queen."
"Nothing will happen to Tommen, assuming he's bending the knee to the Targaryens, of course. As for my daughter, I'll take care of her, don't worry. Come on, Lord Stark, you know better than most that Tommen is not even Robert Baratheon's son, right?" Mace grinned.
"And yet you supported him." Robb said accusingly.
"Wrong. I've supported the Targaryens all the time. Call me whatever offensive names you want, but all I've done since Aerys II was killed was to protect the Targaryens."
"What? You bent the knee to Robert Baratheon when he won, then you supported Renly, then you supported Joffrey and then Tommen. You married your daughter Margaery to the King and your daughter Rosemary to Tyrion Lannister. Your son Loras is the commander of the Kingsguard. How is that supporting the Targaryens?"
"Yes, I did all of that and here I am. In King's Landing. What better place to be in to help the true King take his place in the Throne?"
Robb opened his eyes wide. "So all of it... Was just to prepare the return of the Targaryen girl?"
"Well, I must admit, Robert's death rushed things a little bit. That stupid fight between you Starks and the Lannisters didn't help either. If you must know, I'd rather you had married my daughter Rosemary like I offered you, so we could have crushed the Lannisters between the North and the South. Renly knew the plan, so he knew he would only be a pretense king, only till the Targaryens arrived. But then Stannis ruined it with his dark sorcery, you were declaring yourself King in the North and the Trident and I was forced to join the Lannisters."
Robb made a strange sound, a chuckle mixed with surprise. "Wow. Does Tyrion Lannister know anything of this?"
"No. But he does know that his nephew is not the true King. Rosemary only learnt this a few months ago." Mace said. Rosemary nodded and Robb ran his fingers through his hair with a sigh. "So, your turn now, Lord Stark, what will you do? Support the Targaryens rightful claim to the Throne or fight them?"
Before Robb could say anything Rosemary spoke. "I thought you were going to tell him everything, father."
Robb looked strangely at her. "There's more?"
"I was but go ahead, Rosemary. Tell him." Mace nodded.
"Don't know if you noticed, but my father keeps saying the true King and Targaryens. As in more than one." Rosemary said to Robb.
Robb opened his eyes. "What do you mean?"
Rosemary took a deep breath. "The man that married Daenerys. He's Aegon, the son of Rhaegar. He'll be the one claiming the throne."
Robb just stared at her in awe. "What?"
"Father, tell him." She was too tired to explain it all. In fact some details still made her dizzy.
"Yes, Aegon survived. Me and some others loyal to the Targaryens took care of it. Aegon was taken across the narrow sea sometime before the sack of King's Landing and replaced with a decoy. Rhaegar himself planned it, in case things went wrong. One of his best friends, Jon Connington, raised Aegon in Essos, both of them in disguise, of course. It was clear and obvious that they should only return to Westeros when Aegon was grown up and ready to take the Throne. And also when the circumstances here were favourable. I think they are, and this marriage between him and his aunt Daenerys has only made things even better. A typical Targaryen wedding, between relatives. Aegon is a reasonable, fair, just man. Also strong and decided. I think he'll be a great King. As well as Daenerys will be a great Queen."
"That is insane." Robb said.
"They have dragons, Lord Stark. Dragons, that everybody thought were extinct. Do you want a more obvious sign?"
Robb sighed. "So you think there's not going to be a war? It will all be peaceful?" He was doubtful.
"Sure, unless somebody is dumb enough to fight them." Mace said.
"The Lannisters spring to mind."
"With what army?" Mace Tyrell laughed.
Robb looked at Rosemary. "What do you think of this?"
She shrugged. "Aegon is indeed the rightful heir. And if this can be done without any more battles, war and dead people, then I'm all for it."
Mace Tyrell spoke. "My daughter is wise. Another thing, Lord Stark. Doran Martell and Dorne support Aegon, The Reach and Highgarden support Aegon. So does Dragonstone. My son Garlan in the Twins support Aegon. Royce in the Vale supports Aegon. I'm assuming your uncle Edmure in Riverrun won't be fool enough to fight the dragons. The North is up to you."
"I don't want war. Besides, you know what I have always thought about the bastards of Cersei and Jaime Lannister being in the Throne."
Mace Tyrell smiled. "So you support Aegon VI Targaryen?"
Robb nodded. "I guess so."
"Guess? You must be sure. You must tell all your people there."
"I will." He nodded again. "Do you know when they will be arriving?"
"As we speak, Aegon and Daenerys are setting foot on Eastwatch-by-the-Sea."
Robb was stunned. "The Wall? Why?"
"I thought you said you needed men there. Well, there you have them. Aegon decided that was the place that needed his attention first. He's very keen on finishing off those Others you speak of. He wants to protect his Realm. All of it."
"My brother, I mean, the Lord Commander, he must be told..."
"Don't worry, when he sees the dragons I'm sure he'll understand."
Robb shook his head still shaken with all he was told.
"By the way, what's your opinion on the Greyjoys? With Euron being held captive I'm assuming they'll bend the knee." Mace Tyrell said.
Robb shrugged. "Who knows? Victarion will probably seize the opportunity to become Lord of the Iron Islands. He and Asha never supported Euron."
"You should have captured Victarion in Moat Cailin." Mace said.
"He had already ran away when we got there." Robb defended himself.
"What about Theon Greyjoy? He still is Balon's heir after all. Tell me again why didn't you punish him for his betrayal?"
"I thought Theon murdered my brothers. He didn't. My brothers are both alive. Sure, he betrayed me but if you saw him you'd agree with me and say Theon has suffered enough at the hands of the late Ramsay Snow. Theon was sent to the Wall."
"All right, we'll wait and see what the Greyjoys will do. I'm sure they'll love to meet Aegon too." Mace grinned.
Rosemary spoke. "It's late, can we finish this meeting?"
Her father nodded. "Sure. We'll talk tomorrow. By the way, Lord Stark, how long do you intend to stay in King's Landing for?"
Robb looked quickly at Rosemary and then at the Hand of the King. "Just waiting on something. Shouldn't be long."
"No problem. Take your time."
Rosemary stood up and so did Robb. "I'll walk with you." He said to her.
Mace Tyrell looked at both of them and sighed. "The youth."
"Did you say anything, father?"
"No. But it's late. Just be careful you two." He said seriously.
Rosemary blushed but Robb didn't understand the innuendo. "I'll make sure she gets to her chambers safely."
I'm sure you will. Mace Tyrell thought to himself.
They left the Tower of the Hand in silence. Once outside Robb stopped and looked at her. "This is insane."
She nodded. "It is."
"What will happen to you?" He asked worried.
"I'll go to Casterly Rock with Tyrion, assuming he'll bend the knee of course." She replied.
"What if doesn't? What if he reacts not so well when he hears the news?"
"I don't think he has any other choice." Rosemary declared.
Robb sighed. "I'm not leaving King's Landing until you speak to him and until he knows about Aegon."
"Why?"
"I need to know you'll be all right."
"Why wouldn't I?"
"I just need to know. Please, I won't ask more of you. Just this. Come talk to me after you talk to him."
She nodded. "I will."
"By the way, what did your father mean by that 'be careful you two'?" Robb asked.
Rosemary shrugged a little embarrassed. "Remember that last time you were here? Varys knows everything that happens."
Robb opened his eyes surprised. "What did happen?"
She shrugged again. "When we said goodbye and... I just let myself into your arms..." She blushed embarrassed.
Robb sighed. "Because we hugged? And what? A forehead kiss? I'm sorry, I never intended to cause any trouble. Do you want me to speak to anyone? Your father?" He was worried.
Rosemary shook her head. "No, it was my fault. I'm the one who should have restrained myself."
Robb took a deep breath. "Believe me, it took me all sorts of good will I didn't even know I had to stop me from kissing you properly and... But never would I stain your honour. I learned my lesson before with Jeyne."
Rosemary smiled. "I know. And even then you did the right thing by marrying her... I'm grateful, Robb, you're a good man. I'm the one who have literally kept the distance from you."
He seemed a little worried. "Really, Rosemary, I will talk to your father or whoever you want to clear that up."
She smiled a little. "Thank you, but it's all right. We just need to keep some distance and avoid being alone just the two of us. For the sake of both of us."
"You're right. Well, do you want to know something good? Our nephew is one perfect baby."
Rosemary grinned. "I'm happy to hear it."
"Sansa was so happy there. Even my mother was happy there. Her first grandchild."
"I'm sure my grandmother is also thrilled. Her third great-grandchild and Highgarden's heir." She giggled.
Robb smiled. "How are your twins?"
"Great, thank you."
Robb sighed. "You know, I usually tend to have nightmares but the other day I had a nice dream."
"Really? Did it involve dragons?" She giggled.
Robb had to laugh. "No, that would be a nightmare, right? Not a nice dream."
Robb's laughter melted her heart. She didn't remember watching him laughing ever before. "It depends. So what was it about?"
"This Winter was over and you were in Winterfell. Flowers would just grow in every place you walked."
She smiled tenderly. "That's lovely. Unfortunately, I do not have that power." A single tear rolled over her face.
"You have more power than you imagine." Robb wiped her tear softly and said. "Come on, I'll take you to your chambers."
Rosemary sighed and nodded. "Thank you."
