Chapter Fifty-Five: Seeking Help

The crack of thunder made Isabella jump in her bed, waking her instantly. Trying to calm her heavy breathing, she looked out the window to see it storming outside. Her eyes also glanced over at the empty bed and knew her mother was with her father. Getting out of bed, she quietly left the room to head to the master bedroom. Opening the door, she saw her parents sleeping in the bed. She walked over and tapped her mother's shoulder, waking her up.

"Isabella?" Christine rubbed her eyes and sat up. "Are you alright?" She asked, concerned.

"The storm woke me up…could I sleep with you and dad?" She asked, hoping her mother would say yes.

"Of course, come on up." She patted the space in the bed, smiling. Isabella smiled and crawled over her dad, making him groan. Christine just giggled as Isabella settled between them. Laying back down, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Isabella slept peacefully through the night even with the storm around. But a loud roar suddenly woke her up, along with her parents. She leaned into her mother instantly.

"What is that?" Christine asked Erik.

"I don't know…" He got out of bed as Tristin and Sasha came running into the room and onto the bed. Meg and Nadir followed slowly behind.

"Oh good, you guys heard it as well." Meg said as she sat down on the edge of the bed. "What is that?" She asked Erik the same question.

"If I knew, I would tell you." He looked towards the window and walked to it. Looking out, he saw nothing outside. "That's weird…" He turned around to say something to the waiting people when Meg screamed and pointed to the window behind her father.

"Nessie!" Christine yelled out as the lightening showed the monster.

"What is Nessie doing in Romania?" Nadir asked. Erik shrugged, not knowing the answer. He knew there must have been a reason why the Loch Ness Monster would be in Romania and not Scotland. Isabella stared at the eyes of the monster, seeing something in its eyes. Slowly, she crawled out of bed and walked towards it. No one stopped her but watched as she approached the monster. Erik stood next to her as she looked up at the monster, staring into its eyes.

"Help…" She said softly.

"Help?" Nadir repeated. Isabella nodded, still staring into its eyes. She saw the monster play the scene of hunters destroying her home.

"The loch was being destroyed by hunters…they fled here for protection." She added.

"They?" Erik repeated this time, making Isabella nodded again. He stepped closer to the window and looked out. "Oh…" He spotted two babies and looked up at the monster.

"Where can they stay?" Isabella asked.

"Um…" Erik had to think where he could hide the Loch Ness Monster and her two babies.

"The loch-I mean lake." Christine corrected. "It's not as deep as the loch back in Scotland, but it will keep them safe behind the castle." She explained. Erik nodded, agreeing but didn't know how to explain it to the monster since he didn't speak 'Loch Ness Monster language'. Then he thought of something.

"Isabella, can you tell her about the lake?" He asked his daughter, making her nod and look back at the monster. He watched as the monster then left, heading to the back of the castle where the lake was. They heard several big splashes and knew that they found the lake. Erik then looked at his daughter. "How did you do that?"

"Do what?" She looked up at him, confused by his question.

"Somehow communicate with the Loch Ness Monster…" She glanced at everyone, seeing them look at her, wondering as well.

"I-I…I don't know." She stuttered. "I just looked into its eyes." Erik glanced at Nadir who nodded. "Did I do something bad?" She asked her father.

"No you didn't do anything wrong…" He knew he would have to explain now what was going on, but decided to do it later. "Let's all get some sleep now."

"Can we stay here?" Sasha asked.

"Please…" Tristen added. Both dads sighed and nodded, though they knew that they would be sleeping on the floor tonight since their wives and children took the comfortable bed. Erik grabbed two pillows and a blanket for him and Nadir to use. They tried to get some sleep, but both of them knew it wasn't going to happen.

The next morning, Erik and Nadir were still awake. They decided to get up from the hard floor and go make breakfast ready for their families. Standing up, Erik cracked his back, feeling stiff while Nadir cracked his neck. The two of them stiffly walked out of the room and down to the kitchen. They turned the lights on to see the kitchen filled with fairies. Erik groaned as he looked at the hundreds of them flying around the room.

"Why are there fairies in my kitchen?" Erik asked as he looked at Nadir.

"Um…" He didn't know the answer. "Isabella!" He called for Erik's daughter. She came running down and stopped suddenly when she saw all the fairies.

"Why are there fairies?" She asked, making Nadir roll his eyes.

"You are your father's daughter…" He watched as she stepped into the middle of the room and the fairies stopped suddenly, looking at her. One of the fairies flew to her. Erik watched for a few minutes as his daughter and the fairy somehow communicated. She turned to look at him.

"Where can the fairies stay?" She asked him.

"Stay?" She nodded. "Um…" He tried to think.

"No not the wolf cave; that belongs to us." Nadir quickly pointed that out.

"There are two rooms that aren't really used that they could stay…" Erik groaned, not liking fairies. He told her where they rooms are and watched as she led the family of fairies out of the kitchen. Once it was just him and Nadir in the kitchen, he groaned again.

"May I ask what is going on?" Nadir asked.

"Does it look like I know?" Erik asked back. "Am I'm clueless as you are on why all of a sudden the Loch Ness Monster and now the entire specie of fairies shows up at the castle."

"Well there has to be a reason. They wouldn't just show up for a visit." Nadir said. "Isabella said that Nessie came for help since the loch was destroyed, what if the fairies' homes were also destroyed?"

"Then why come here?" Erik asked. Nadir shrugged, not knowing the answer to that question.

"Maybe your dad would know…"

"You think he would?"

"It's worth a shot; maybe something like this happened before." Nadir suggested. Erik nodded, deciding to send a message to his dad later today. Brushing off the subject, the two men decided to get breakfast ready for the family. Now that they had 'guests'; Erik would need to figure out how to take care of them. He knew that the fairies would eat whatever food that everyone else ate, but he didn't know what Nessie would like. He figured fish which the lake was full of. But it wouldn't be long before the fish would be gone and he would need to find more fish for her. This wasn't going to easy or fun.

Over the next few weeks, more and more creatures came to the castle. One morning, Erik woke up to see a flock of phoenixes in his room while another day; there was a herd of dragons in his back yard. The wolf cave that once only housed Nadir's pack now housed four more packs. He already had two giants hiding in the woods while a pack of mermaids shared the lake with the Loch Ness Monster which he was surprised didn't eat the mermaids. His catacombs were now being occupied by gnomes and also a mummy while a heard of unicorns stayed in the small stable with his other horses. His secret underground lake was now home to two basilisks. A Cerberus stayed just outside the castle door as if guarding it like it was entrance to Hades. More and more creatures were coming and soon Erik would be running out room in his castle to hide them all. He already had Isabella stay in his room with Christine while Meg and Nadir had their twins share their room as well. He and Nadir would spend all night gathering the food to feed everyone; sometimes they would be gone for days. It wasn't until three months went by that Erik couldn't do it anymore. He was exhausted and hadn't drank anything in weeks. Most of his blood supply was gone due some of the creatures that were staying at the castle and drank blood.

One night, Erik sat outside on his balcony with his dog. He was too tired to move so he watched as the dragons, phoenixes and griffins flew around in the sky. He could see Isabella on one of the dragons while Tristen was riding a griffin and Sasha was on a phoenix. He was surprised to see the how gently they were with the kids, but was glad. His eyes were too focused on the flying creatures that he didn't hear Christine approach him.

"Hey…" Her voice made him jump a bit. "I'm sorry, did I startle you?" She asked as she sat down next to him. His senses weren't working well due to the lack of blood in him.

"No I just didn't hear you…" He said back with a sigh.

"You can't keep going on like this, it's not healthy." She had noticed how everything was affecting him. He was slowly losing weight and was more tired now; his skin became much paler.

"I know, but I can't." He still didn't know why they all came to Bran Castle.

"Why don't you take the next few days off and let the wolves go out hunting?" Christine suggested. "Or have Nadir take the griffin or a dragon?" She pointed to them who were flying above them now. One of the dragons who has taken a liking to Christine came down and landed next to them. She smiled and petted the gentle beast.

"I think he likes you…" Christine glanced at Erik and smiled, nodding.

"I think so too…" She gave the dragon a hug before he flew away. "But I was serious about letting Nadir do the hunting for a few days." She looked back at Erik. "You barely spend time with Isabella or me anymore and we both miss you."

"Well there should be enough food for a few weeks now. Nadir and I made sure to get extra to store up. I have a gut feeling they'll be staying for a while." He sighed. "I still wish I knew why they came here. Surely they have other homes to go to."

"Well maybe their other homes were being destroyed as well. They also knew that you would protect them just like you are protecting Nadir and the wolves, Meg and her kids…me and Isabella. Though they may not be vampires, they still somehow know that you will do whatever you can to make sure they're protected." Christine stated. Erik knew she was right and nodded. Though it didn't really answer his question, but he was content with that answer. "May I ask something?" He nodded. "Why is that Isabella can understand and communicate with them?" She asked. Christine noticed how often her daughter is with the creatures whether it's the dangerous Ogre or Basilisk to the gentle gnomes, she always seemed to be with a creature. Erik sighed, not really knowing the answer. He had been too busy to really find out or even contact his father to see if he knew. Before he could actually give his answer, he heard the wolves howl. He immediately stood up while Zeus ran over to the edge of the balcony, howling back. Christine glanced up to see the dark clouds coming in fast. She called to her daughter and the twins to come inside. The creatures landed on the balcony, allowing the children to climb off their backs and run inside. Christine looked at Erik, wondering what is going on.

"We have a visitor…"

So the castle is filled with mythical creatures and now they have a visitor, I wonder who it is...
