Slew of love letters

It had been thirteen days now…

Haruka tossed and turned in his bed. It had been very hard to fall asleep after finding out what kind of disease was wrecking Rose's body. The raven-haired male winced when he thought of how sore his throat had been with all of his screaming and crying the past few days. It was hard to cope with the fact that Rose wouldn't be there for much longer. Makoto was there with him when he found out but not even Makoto could soothe Haruka. The raven-haired male just wanted to pick up the blonde and run away because Rose did not deserve this. One after another, her organs would stop working in what could be weeks or a few months. It all started with her kidneys and her liver was next on the list. Haruka had been sick after the initial shock settled in. Once again, Makoto was there to hold him while he was stuck in the bathroom but Haruka was not in the mood to show love or friendship, he wanted to be alone. It was the first night in many that Haruka spent alone and it was hard to sleep without Makoto.

The olive-haired male would always hold him and Haruka genuinely missed those strong arms. Haruka felt a bit guilty for shutting Makoto out but it just felt like something he needed to learn to cope with… on his own. Haruka didn't even want to imagine the day when Rose would leave him. Would he cry? Would he scream? Would he perhaps smile because that would be what Rose wanted? Haruka never thought about dying all that much but it was hard to ignore right now. Would anyone even miss him when he wasn't around anymore? Haruka rolled over once more and squeezed his eyes shut to try and erase those depressing thoughts. Now was not the moment to think those things and after a few more tosses and turns, he finally fell asleep just before the sun would rise.

The raven-haired male lazily opened on of his eyes when the warm autumn sun warmed his face through the blinds. He didn't really feel like getting up but he wanted to visit Rose again today. He decided to stay in bed for a few more minutes until something caught his eyes. A pink envelop was stuck against his door and Haruka furrowed his brows. A pink letter? Haruka rolled his eyes and he thought that it probably belonged to Nagisa. A few years back, Nagisa would keep writing him love letters just to tease him. In the beginning, it was fun but one day he opened his locker at school and a mass of letters poured out. Haruka had been furious at the time and he could do nothing to stop the other pupils from whispering 'cute' things. Makoto had also been rather shocked because it was hard for him to cope with the fact that Haruka might had a love-interest.

Haruka sighed deeply before swinging his legs over the edge of his bed. He trudged towards the letter and if the letter truly belonged to Nagisa, he would probably kill him. Haruka smiled because that seemed like a really good idea. The raven-haired male noticed that there was also a heart-shaped sticker on the envelop and he sighed because there was only one person who would use those kind of things. Haruka picked it up and he opened it, he furrowed his brows when he saw that the paper was light-blue. He remembered that Nagisa used pink paper all those years back so Haruka was quite relieved to see that the writer was not Nagisa.

Haruka unfolded the letter and began reading.

My thoughts are with you…

I know you need the distance right now but you're not alone in this. I'll never stop thinking about you and I hope that you can feel my love in your heart.

PS: Breakfast is waiting for you downstairs.

Lots of love

Haruka smiled a little even if it was really cheesy of Makoto to write a love letter. It was something most people didn't even bother doing anymore but it was still a very nice surprise. Haruka walked over to his pin board and stuck the letter to it, he glanced at it one last time before he headed downstairs. Makoto wasn't lying when he said that breakfast was ready. There was everything you would expect from a breakfast that you could order at a five-star hotel! Haruka blushed when he saw the small rose that was splayed across his plate. Makoto was such a sweetheart for doing this for him. Haruka picked up the flower and held it close to him, letting his mind display the image of the smiling girl that he missed so dearly.

Haruka wondered whether Makoto was in the house but when he called out to him, he didn't receive an answer. Haruka sat down and picked up a few bits of food and tried to eat as much as possible. He wasn't extremely hungry but he didn't want to waste the effort that Makoto had gone through, he even grilled mackerel and Haruka couldn't help but feel blessed that he had such a sweet boyfriend.

After his breakfast, Haruka walked into his kitchen and there was another love letter that stuck to his fridge. Haruka shook his head and walked over to grab the letter. His eyes darted over the beautiful handwriting.

You inspire me…

Ever since we've been together, you're my source of inspiration. I only have to think of you and all kinds of ideas flow through my mind. I couldn't live my life without thinking about you, you inspire and encourage me to always do my best. Everything is different since you've been by side. I feel alive and I would like thank you for that, my prince…

PS: Isn't it time for your morning soak?

Lots of love.

The raven-haired male held the letter close to his heart and he smiled. He hoped that Makoto knew that he also inspired him to live his life to the fullest. Haruka knew that his life would be extremely dull without the olive-haired male by his side. The raven-haired male trudged upstairs to get his morning soak because ignoring Makoto's orders was never a good idea. Vaguely, Haruka wondered why Makoto wasn't here but he figured that he would meet up with him later, perhaps he needed to buy him a gift as a thank you for all the letters. Haruka pondered over the perfect gift while he let the warm water of his tub caress his body. It was nice to have the water surrounding him because he had been rather cold today.

When Haruka looked up at his dolphin toy, he noted that another letter was placed next to it. The raven-haired male sighed deeply and he wondered when Makoto had written all of these. He let the water soothe him for few more minutes before getting up and drying himself off. He picked up the letter and read it with a faint smile on his lips.

I'm hopelessly yours

To be hopelessly yours: this is my fate… The possibility of not having you someday would frighten me, if not terrify me. You're an extension of me that I need to be alive. I trust you with my entire heart and I really wish that I could relieve all the suffering that you've been through. Please, lean on my shoulder when you need it because I'll be there, to catch your tears.

I'm hopelessly yours and I always be because I need you…

PS: Isn't it about time that you went out to get some fresh air?

Lots of love

It didn't take Haruka too long to face the warm autumn sun. The cool air was refreshing and Haruka decided that he didn't need to know where he wanted to go. He would just walk and find out where his legs would take him. He had tried calling Makoto but he didn't answer. Haruka didn't mind being alone but it would have been nice to take a walk with Makoto by his side. Haruka gazed at the passing people but he never truly saw their faces, they were just a blur. Sometimes, his mind would trick him when he saw a blonde passing by. His eyes would focus and then he'd feel bad because none those people compared to her. Haruka glanced at the shops as he walked by them but none of them were interesting. The raven-haired male wasn't much of a shopper but he did kind of want to get Makoto a little gift. Haruka had thought of writing his own love letters but Haruka wasn't great with words. Perhaps he could craft something instead? When the raven-haired male walked by a toy store, he couldn't help but glance at the fluffy teddy bear behind the window. Perhaps it could watch over Rose when he wasn't there? Haruka had visited her every single day but she still hadn't woken up. At first, it was hard because the silence was always so loud. Haruka would put on some music but nothing really compared to her soft voice. The visits got harder when he saw that Rin was sitting next to her bed, he was still furious but he held back for Rose because she probably wouldn't want them to brawl. Haruka loved doing his homework in Rose's room because he would always say everything out loud, hoping that Rose could hear him.

A few minutes later, Haruka walked towards the hospital with the big teddy bear in his hands. He had been receiving quite some stares and Haruka did what he did best. He ignored all of them stoically. He didn't really rush himself and by the time he got to the hospital, it was already two in the afternoon. The nurses he passed would always nod at him and some even smiled at him. It was like he was a regular visitor. When he opened the door, he gasped and dropped the teddy bear on the floor. Rose was not lying in her bed. A rough wave of panic struck him and he glanced around the room looking for clues. He opened the door to the bathroom but she wasn't there either. Was she perhaps awake? Did they take her because something happened? Haruka was just about to leave the room when he saw another letter atop of the small drawer next to Rose's bed. Haruka ran towards it and he opened the envelop. This time, the paper was pink instead of light-blue. Haruka knew that the handwriting didn't belong to Makoto and Haruka gasped as he realised that Rose had written this.

My dear Haru,

I'm unusually lucky to know someone as loyal and honest as you. Life can bring you unpleasant surprises and events but ever since I met you I feel like you've brought light to my gloomy life. You're so special to me and I can tell how much you care about others. I don't want to burden you with a lot but please, don't be too hard on Rin, he didn't mean it… I'm glad that you are close by, it's great to know that I can count on you and lean on you when I need it.

I cannot be more grateful for a friend like you. You are my daily sunshine and you are the song I sing…

I love you

Haruka could feel a tear roll down his cheeks. He turned around once more to check whether Rose was already there, but she wasn't. What if this was a letter to say goodbye? Haruka held the letter tightly while dashing towards the door. When he opened it and glanced down the hallway, his eyes widened at what he saw…

Please, don't ever change because you're the light that shines through the darkness…

A/N: Sorry it took so awfully long to update. I have to make seven different exams and I'm truly exhausted. I also have some personal problems so I don't know when I'll be able to update any of my stories… Sorry! I wanted to write something fluffy because I simply needed it. I do hope you enjoyed and that you're not too upset by the long update-time.

Lots of love.
