Four hours into the third trial and Dean couldn't take it any more. He stood by as Crowley hurled insults at his sister, he stood there while he became weepy but he really couldn't take Crowley asking if everyone deserved to be loved. He walked out of the church to get some fresh air, anything to get away.
He wanted to come with Rose so he could be strong for her, stand beside her while she gave up her life to protect her family but now he was really starting to wish he hadn't... Or if he had to come he wished he had Cas standing next to him.
Cas. He would know what to say, or not say as the case may be. He would have been next to Dean and with him Dean would have felt alright. But that was one of the problems, he was never going to be with him again.
"Dean? You out here?" Sam asked from the door looking round and when he saw him walking over to where his brother was standing.
"Hey how you holding up?"
"Just peachy Sammy." He responded sarcastically, looking away from his brother.
"I know this is hard Dean-" Sam started but he cut him off, turning.
"No Sam you don't know the half of it." Dean responded bitterly, folding his arms across his chest in the hopes that they would protect him somehow from all the pain.
"Dean-" Sam replied in a sympathetic voice, but Dean couldn't do this. Not right now.
"Rose shouldn't be left alone with Crowley." he said not moving from where he was leaning against the church.
"Okay, well I'll go back in you can stay here for a little while if you like." Sam replied, knowing his brother wasn't ready to talk. He just wished there was something he could do to help with his pain.
"Thanks Sammy." Dean whispered as he turned away from watching his brother return inside.
"Sure no problem Dean." Sam replied quietly, no sure if Dean was even listening to him any more.
Dean stood there leaning against the church wall staring out at the view, not seeing any of it. He was praying, to the only angel he had ever prayed too.
Cas man. You got your ears on? I...I wish we didn't have to do this you know. I wish you were here with me right now and would never leave. But everyone leaves sometime, guess I knew your time would come eventually, I just… I don't know what I'm saying man, I don't know anything any more. And with that Dean pushed himself off of the wall he was leaning against and taking a deep breath he headed back into the church.

Cas was playing with Isobel and Gabriel when he heard Dean's prayer. He wanted to go to his side but knew he couldn't, if he did it would just make leaving that much harder. He wished Dean could hear him as he heard Dean. He wished he could pray to the man he loved. But that was not the way it was supposed to work. If only it would.
Gabriel noticed when Castiel stopped really paying attention to there game and looked up. Cas had an expression in his eyes as if he was been torn in half and Gabriel guessed Dean was praying. Briefly he thought of Rose but quickly put her out of his mind in case he should break and fly to her, begging her to stop. He knew she would if he asked her too. It was the reason he decided to stay here. He couldn't watch her die and do nothing, even if he would see her in heaven at the end. No he needed to think of something else, with that he turned to playing with his niece, trying to make his last few hours with her as pleasant as possible.
Castiel realised that Gabriel knew what had happened but he was thankful of his brother for not bringing it up. In some ways he wished he had gone with the Winchesters if only to be at Dean's side one last time. But he knew deep down he had made the right decision. That was a time for family to say goodbye, and he had to say it to his daughter. He may have only known of her existence for a short while but he felt for her feelings he felt for no other, not even Dean. He thought that this is perhaps what parental love felt like to humans, and if that was true then he had done Dean a great disservice by not allowing him to feel for his daughter too. But that was a moot point now, Rose would tell Dean and he would look after their child. She would be in the best of hands. But oh how he would miss her. Miss the link they shared. He was not human and they had many customs which confused him. He liked learning them all with his daughter at his side learning too. But this is how it must be. With that thought he turned back to his daughter and Gabriel, again joining in with there game.

It was nearly time. Sam watched Rose pull the strength from inside her to prepare for the final part of the ritual to cure Crowley. He knew it was the final part because he had insisted she tell him everything about it, even if the demons would be locked in hell at the end, it was still useful to know.
"Sam can you go and stand behind Crowley please? And make sure your ready to grab him and run when I'm done. I'm not sure what will happen at the end but I can't imagine it will be fun to be around." She said, breaking hi from his observation. He knew that she really wanted a chance to talk to dean alone.
"Sure." he replied, wondering whether they should say goodbye now or pretend that they would have time later.
"Thank you." Rose responded, and in those two simple words Sam heard everything his sister wanted to say. She wasn't saying thank you for doing as she asked but thank you for all he had done and would do. It was her way of saying goodbye to him. Sam looked at Rose and smiled to let her know that he had heard and understood and with a nod walked over to Crowley. There was nothing to do but wit now.
"What do you want me to do?" Dean asked from behind her were his was leaning against one of the pews still with his arms crossed.
"Come here Dean, I have something I want you to keep safe for Isobel." And with that Rose took the pendant from around her neck and hung it around Dean's. Looking at it nestled against his chest she smiled. It was back where it belonged.
"Dean there's something I have to tell you, and I'm pretty sure your not going to like it." Rose said as she looked up at him. It was time to come clean.
"Okay. What is it?" he replied confused and when she didn't immediately reply he got even more puzzled. "Rose?" he spoke again before a horrible thought entered his head and he grabbed her arms. "Your not going to hell are you?" He asked with fear in his eyes.
"What? No nothing like that...this has to do with Isobel." Rose replied, looking to side. She couldn't look him in the eyes when she tells him what she has done to him.
"what about her Rosey?" Dean asked, realising his grip on her arms slightly so instead of grabbing her his hands were more comforting.
"She's not mine Dean." Rose whispered, still not looking at her big brother.
"What?" Dean asked blinking a couple of time while he tried to process that statement. "What do you mean she's not yours? Who the hells is she?" he finally asked angry and worried about what the hell was going on.
"Yours." Rose answered closing her eyes against the pain she felt when she said that. In her mind Isobel was her daughter, but she was dying and she needed Dean to understand his relationship with her as soon as possible.
"You.. .What?... Hu?" spluttered Dean. He really didn't understand that sentence.
"Isobel is not just mine and Castiel's child she is also yours. Castiel and I never had sex. She was conceived by Castiel pulling you out of hell." Rose said quickly looking up at him. Trying to get dean to understand. And yet this sentence was greeted by silence as Dean took his hands off Rose as if she had burnt him.
"Look I don't have time to explain more, I must finish this now, but Sam can explain." Rose continued, almost begging Dean to understand why she did what she did without her having to explain it.
Dean turned on his brother. "You knew." He said with narrow eyes and a look of betrayal in his eyes as he looked at Sam.
"I over heard Rose tell Bobby." Sam replied trying to justify how he knew, and why he never told Dean.
"so I'm the only one who didn't know that Isobel was my kid. Well that's just great isn't it." Dean spun angrily looking away from his two siblings as he tried to understand what was going on.
"Dean, I'm sorry. We should have told you but I can't change the past. What's done is done. please Dean my brother look after our daughter for me." and with that Rose stepped into the devils trap for the last time, slicing through her hand and slamming the open cut over Crowley's mouth before crying out the words to complete the final trial.
