Back To Work Part 2
A/N: Sorry for any confusion with the previous chapter. I revised it. Take a look and write me if there is still some confusion.
Oh Christ, I do hate Jessie!
I'm kinda surprised I kept that New York Jets jersey that barely covered my ass that I use to tease. But it's really comfortable.
I pulled into The Night Owl parking lot. Cars filled the lot already. It felt like the subway at rush hour, and the music was loud. Every Thursday was 'I Wanna be Sedated Night.' Cheap Buds, Alabama Slammers and Kamakazes. Tonight will be a fine night.
I looked around the crowded bar and saw my drinking buddy. "HEY MADGE!"
"HEY!" I sat next to her. The bartender put a Long Island Iced Tea in front of me. It was something when the bartender knew what kind of drink you drank. "THANKS!"
"WHERE"S GARY TONIGHT?" Madge and Gary recently got engaged. I was part of the wedding party and had to work very hard to keep her from choosing ugly bride's maid dresses. Madge's taste in fashion wasn't that great and I wasn't going to be caught dead in a gold lame dress. "HE'LL BE HERE LATER."
She poked me in the side. "LOOK WHO'S HERE!" She pointed to the deck out back. "YOUR EX!" Oh damn. It's not like I haven't seen him over the last year. But I was here to have a good time. Not to go over our history. The good and... the bad. "YEAH, I SEE HIM!" I took a large sip of my drink. "LET'S SIT! A BOOTH OPENED!" We took our drinks to a booth. "This is better. At least we can talk."
"So, seeing Peeta bring back memories?" Oh God, is this what tonight's gonna be like. "Please Madge. I've moved on." Madge was right. Seeing Peeta brought back memories. The New Year's Eve party that we finally hooked up. Our first real date. The first time we... you know. And of course, the breakup. Sometimes a breakup is quick and easy. Like with Jessie. I yelled, I pushed, I left, I haven't looked back. Others were long and torturous. Like with Peeta. I yelled, I cried, I left, I looked back all the time.
The waitress showed up with another round of drinks. "Hey, there's my honey." Madge got up and greeted her fiancé. "No Madge, call him over. I don't wanna be left alone."
"Oh Kit-Kat relax. I'll be right back." Damn. "Come back soon!" I enjoyed my drink, and I could use another one already. One magically appeared in front of me. "Thanks."
"It's still your favorite, right?" That wasn't my waitress. "Oh hi, um yeah it is, thanks." Peeta sat down despite my inability to talk coherently. "It's good to see you. You look good." I finished my drink and went on to drink the one Peeta brought me. "How's work?" I nodded. "Um, it's going well. And, er, how is work for you?" How lame did I sound. "Good, I'm working downtown." My eyes got wide when I heard you were. "I'm working downtown too. We should have lunch." Ahhhhhhhh! What's wrong with me. I just asked out my ex. Ugh!
"Yeah, that would be nice. Here's my card." He handed me his business card. Wow. Seeing his name in print was impressive. "I don't have a card. But I'm at my parents. You can call me there." Oh crap, he now knows I'm back with my parents. "You up here visiting your family." He nodded his head yes. He kept on talking. He was so good with words. He could make you believe anything. It was a good thing that he was a good person, if he was a creep, who knew what he could get people to do.
I stared into those amazingly deep blue eyes. They were hypnotic. I felt all warm inside looking at them. His hair was also... Oh shit he's a hunk. God he's hot. ...snap ...snap ...snap. "Katniss, Katniss."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I was... daydreaming."
"About?"
"About... um, work." That was the stupidest thing I've ever said. And I've said some stupid things. I could tell he didn't buy that when he raised one eyebrow. Oh God I need help. I stood up half way and looked around for Madge. "Um, Madge left with Gary." Peeta said.
"Oh." Jeez, I told her not to leave me alone. "Oh, that's cool." I tried to stand, but my balance was a little off. "I gotta be getting home anyway." I leaned against a pillar and smiled. God he's good-looking. "Katniss, can you drive?" I'm not sure what he said. "Um." He took me by the arm and said. "I'll take you home by cab. We'll pick up your car tomorrow." He's so strong. "Okay." I allowed him to lead me out.
There are always cabs parked outside the bar just waiting for people like me. He opened the cab door and guided me in. "Here we go Kat." He followed me in and closed the door. "Number Twelve Twelfth Street please." I leaned into him, and he put his arm around me.
After one block I sat up straight. What was I doing? He was my ex. I broke up with him for a reason. Okay, I had no good reason. I was an asshole. The whole trip back I just stared out the window. "Here we are." Oh crap that was fast. "Thanks Peeta." He helped me out, and paid the cab. "I'll walk you in. I'll walk home from here."
"Thank you, you're sweet." I opened the door, and he walked me in. "Thank you for..." I couldn't complete my sentence. I lost myself in those eyes again. "It was nice seeing..." I didn't let him finish what he was going to say. I pushed him against the door, got on my tip-toes, placed my hands on his face and kissed him.
Oh my God I missed his lips. He put his arms around me and lifted me up off the floor. "Oh Peeta I missed you." We stared into each others eyes in what seemed like an eternity.
We pressed our bodies together. It felt like we were one again. What was I thinking breaking up with him. "Um Peeta..." He kissed my neck. Oh God, jello legs. "Peeta, er..." He lowered me to the ground. "You said something Katniss?" I took his hand and led him upstairs. "Where are we going?" He asked. "Just follow me."
"Um... your parents?"
"In Atlantic City with the Elks and Grandma."
When we got to the second floor I started to go into my room. I paused. "Something wrong?" He asked. "No, nothing. Just, it's a single bed." I led him further down hall to the guest bedroom. "This is better." I closed the door behind me. "It's got a bigger bed." I pushed him on the bed and dove on top of him. I rolled over and pulled him on top of me. I grabbed him. "Oh please! Peeta!" Peeta started to undress me. I unzipped his pants. I felt how hard he got. "Now Peeta. Now." I was so wet inside. I wanted him in me now. "Yip."
"You say something?"
"No!" I put my nails into his back. "Just keep... Yip!"
"Am I hurting you?"
"No... just... YIP!"
I ran my fingers across his chest. I could feel his heart. "Your heart is still pounding." He pulled me in tighter. "It's what you do to me." I dug myself in more. I missed him so much.
"It's in the guest room mom." Peeta perked up when he heard someone talking in the hallway. "Did you hear that?" I barely heard what he said. "Hear what?"
"I thought I heard..." The door opened.
"Hello." My eyes got tremendous. I whipped around and pulled the covers up. "GRANDMA!"
"Is that Peeta Jr?" Peeta peeked out above the covers. "Oh hi Mrs. Tate." He said.
"It is Peeta Jr. HEY ROSE! LOOK WHO'S WITH KATNISS!" She called out. "No Grandma don't." I begged.
"What are you talking about Ma?" My mother opened the door. "Ahhhhhhhhhh! Katniss Lily Everdeen!" Oh my God! This can't get any worse. "Ma, let's get out." She went to escort my grandmother out, but Grandma wouldn't budge. "No, I want to talk to Katniss." Oh it could get worse. "Katniss, is Peeta using protection?"
"Grandma, please don't..."
"I just want to make sure he's using a condiment."
"Ahhhhhh!" Yes, it could get worse.
Present Day
"Thanks dad. Why don't you keep yourself busy visiting the boys downstairs, and I'll see you at noon." He kissed me on top of my head. "Yup, noon it is." He got a few feet away when I called him.
"I was wrong daddy, it was never simple." He cocked his head when he looked at me. "What was never simple?"
"Life."
