Amelia Gilbert

Jeremy: Ok, ok, I didn't get with Amy. Can we just take a moment to acknowledge what a good brother I am?

Mia: You got with her friend, didn't you?

Jeremy: That's not the point here.

Mia: Did you or did you not get with her friend?

Jeremy: We talked, yes.

Mia: That's not what I'm asking.

Jeremy: You're focusing on the wrong part here.

Mia: Unless you want to be thrown into contempt by my bailiff Matthew Donovan I suggest you answer the question.

Jeremy: Well obvs I got with her. She threw herself at me, what else was I supposed to do?

Mia: Wooooooooooow, traitor.

Jeremy: I can't win with you.

Mia: Trrrrrraaaaaiittttoorrr.

Jeremy:But I left Amy alone! How does that not count for anything?

Mia: Now we've got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love.

Jeremy: Oh so you're going to throw T-Swizzle lyrics at me now? Seriously? What do you want from me? I'm only human and if there was a ban on all your nemeses, there would be no one left for me to get with. I'd die alone.

Mia: We're going to have a falling out in a minute you and I.

Jeremy: You know what; I did have a little peck with Amy. Yeah.

Mia: Now we've got problems and I don't think we can solve them.

Jeremy: Maybe this can redeem me a little. Amy fell down the stairs.

Mia: Lolololololololol.

Mia: Wait, was she hurt?

Jeremy: Na, she's fine.

Mia: Then LOOOOL.Please tell me there's a video.

Jeremy: There was not.

Mia: Sometimes you fail me.

Jeremy: How was I meant to know she was about to fall?

Mia: Stefan would have gotten a video.

Jeremy: Well maybe Stefan should be your brother then.

Stefan put the friendship bar so high that Jeremy and Matthew were struggling to keep up so obviously there was a little jealousy going on there. A couple of chocolate bars would get them right back in the game, but what do they do instead? Interact with the enemy. Matt insisted Amy must be a lovely person because whilst he's been hiding out at home, she's been checking in on him through texts. She might as well send a nude whilst she's at it. I wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't already. Then she tries to seduce my brother. I'm lucky she doesn't know about Damon yet because I'm sure she'd be straight on that.

I was the third to arrive back at the Salvatore manor behind Damon and Liz. Flipping Damon overtook me in a no overtaking zone after honking at me for a quarter of a mile. The idiot. I was driving the speed limit and everything. Not the best way to get back in my good books. Stefan took a detour to feed, Elena went with him and Caroline drove home to pack a suitcase for her mom.

I'd arrived back fifteen minutes ago and already I was so bored. I kicked my feet up and texted Jeremy seeing as there was nothing else to do here. Despite my many hints that a TV would really make up the room, the Salvatore brothers still hadn't entered the 21st century and got one. I mean, really, they were around when TVs were invented so what was the problem? There were numerous of TV shows I could introduce Stefan to, Teen Mom, Keeping up with the Kardashians, the possibilities were endless.

I was just searching for Damon's credit card to order a TV through Amazon when Stefan walked into the room. I tossed Damon's wallet over my shoulder like I hadn't touched it at all.

"Stef, bud! How was the squirrel?" I asked him, throwing my arm over the back of the couch to turn and look at him.

"It was a rabbit today," he replied, shrugging off his jacket. "It was ok."

I frowned. "Did you let it live after?" Stefan pulled an awkward smile. "Did you at least give it a proper burial?" I shook my head mournfully when he didn't give any answer. Not going to lie, that dented his coolness factor a little. Just a little though. His coolness armour was pretty rock solid.

"What? Would you rather a human?" Couldn't say the same for my twin. Elena followed in and threw a scowl my way. I noted that I should never make that face, it wasn't very attractive.

"Depends." I shrugged and she paused as she removed her scarf, just to throw another dirty look my way. "Would that human be Amy or Courtney? Because if so, then sure," I volunteered with a sturdy nod and a shrug.

She looked at me like I was an alien. "...Sometimes you need to think before you speak."

I kind of looked around, trying to figure out who she was referring to because I certainly didn't deserve that. If anything, being fed off might just put Courtney in his place. I know it did me when Stefan lost control that time.

Stefan covered his mouth as he smirked to himself. Sure this was entertaining when you weren't on the receiving end of it.

"Sometimes you need to develop what me and my good buddy Stefan clearly have and that's a sense of humour," I replied, turning my back on her, going back to picturing where I was going to place the 3D TV I was going to order on Damon's credit card. In the long run, he'd thank me.

Elena stomped round the couch and stood in my way. I sighed and reluctantly looked up at her. "Stefan's battle with blood is not a joke, Mia."

I threw my hands up. "Well Stefan's clearly not offended." I flung my hand in his direction. The man's shoulders were shaking for God sake! "Sometimes you have to make a joke about these things."

"So everything that happened today was some big joke to you?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose. I give up. I might as well tell her I was going to donate loads of money to charity because she's going to have a problem with whatever I say.

"I don't think that's what she meant, Elena," Stefan interjected.

"See, see, Stefan gets it," I insisted to Elena, "Do you know why?" She deeply frowned. "A sense humour." I touched the tip of my nose and then pointed at Stefan. "In sync."

"You're so annoying." I thought I heard my twin mutter but I don't have supersonic hearing like the others so I could have been wrong. I probably wasn't though.

"Stefan, what are your thoughts on a 3D TV?" I asked him, because he was in for a treat when I order it through Matt's Prime account.

"I didn't realise there was such a thing," Stefan replied, leaning back into my twin's touch. "Why'd you ask?"

"Just that uh Damon was thinking of getting one."

"Really?" he raised his brows. "That doesn't sound like Damon."

"Well, he gave me his card to pick one out for him. I was thinking of getting a blu-ray player too-" I looked over when there was a knock at the door. I pushed off the couch and limped over to the door. I think climbing that hill really gave me a stitch.

"Hey," Caroline greeted softly from the other side, gently lifting up her suitcase. "Sorry that took forever, I just didn't know how long my mom was going to be here." Her mom had been given the VIP treatment and had been taken down to the basement by Damon. Lucky her. Until the vervain was out of her system, that was where she would stay.

"Welcome to my crib, MTV." I held the door open for her to come in. Props to her, she looked ok. A little sad, a little quiet, but ok. Usually when Caroline's upset or anxious, she babbles on, panics, but right now she was calm, cool and collected, super weird seeing as her emotions are supposed to be heightened and all.

"Hey." Elena rushed over and threw her arms around Caroline. "Are you ok? How are you holding up?"

"Let's put it this way." Caroline peered over Elena's shoulder in my direction. "Looks like we're going to have another 'I've had a bad day' drink tonight, Mia."

Oh jeez, my kidney can't take this.

This was becoming far too frequent. We needed to have some good days.

"Doctor Damon said it'll take approximately three days for the vervain to leave her system," I explained to Caroline walking backwards in the direction of the basement. "Although it's been awhile since Damon went to school so I'd give it four." Out of the three of them, I only got a smirk out of Stefan. What a guy.

I opened the old door and in single file we went down the stairs.

"So on your left, that's where we keep the monkeys," I joked.

"Keep Caroline away from me please." Was the first thing I heard as we reached the bottom. There was coldness, a detachment to Liz's voice like none of this had really sunk in.

"On second thoughts, we've gone the wrong way." Since I was at the front of the queue, I turned around and tried to usher the gang back up the stairs but by the look on Caroline's face, she'd heard it. That damn hearing again.

She side stepped past me and hesitated right before the entrance to where her mom was being kept, but she didn't make herself known. Her face didn't show what she was feeling and that was really creeping me out because Caroline always made a show of what she was feeling. She was the kind of girl who wore her heart on her sleeve.

"I don't want to see her," Liz said firmly, like this wasn't her own flesh and blood she was turning away, but a total stranger.

I moved to Caroline's side and placed a gentle hand on her arm. "I've got some whiskey upstairs," I informed her. Soz, kidneys.

As if the word whiskey triggered Damon's hearing, he glanced over, spotting Caroline and I on standby.

"She's your daughter, Liz," he reminded her.

"Not anymore. My daughter's gone."

And that really annoyed me because Caroline wasn't gone, she was here and yeah, she was different, but that wasn't necessarily bad. There was a wave of confident about her that I'd never seen before.

"Got vodka too," I whispered to Caroline. Ah, damn, tomorrow morning wasn't going to be fun.

"You have no idea how wrong you are about that." My head turned hearing Damon's words. A look flashed across his face as he acknowledged Caroline standing there, sympathy, compassion and I realised then that Caroline wasn't the only one who was changing. And truthfully? That kind of took the breath out of me for a moment.

Caroline turned and left through the gap between Elena and Stefan, unable to hear anymore. Elena chased after her whilst I decided to hold back and come in later with the alcohol.

I leant my back against the stone wall and exhaled. I had this weird overwhelming feeling of loss come over me and it took me a second to realise why.

Damon stepped out of Liz's cell and bolted the room shut. "Are you staying tonight too?" He asked and when I didn't answer, he waved a hand in front of my face. "Because we have your room ready for you." He jerked his thumb towards another cell with a grin. When I didn't crack one back, he tilted his head at me, trying to read me.

"Can we talk?" I asked him softly, my hands locked together in front of me, entwining nervously.

His face changed, the teasing playful look fading when he noticed how on edge I was. "Sure." He nodded towards the stairs.

I nodded too and walked out in front, feeling Damon's curious gaze burning a hole through the back of my head. I kept moving throughout the house until we reached the study. Whilst I made myself comfortable, curling my legs under my butt on the couch, Damon poured himself a glass of whiskey. I hope he saves some of that for Caroline.

As he sat opposite me, he offered me some of his drink. I shook my head.

He took a sip and placed his drink to the side.

He bent over so his forearms rested on his knees and looked at me, waiting for me to say something anything. I tucked a loose curl behind my ear and looked towards their bookshelf. I'd never even seen Damon read.

"Can you talk? You're making me nervous." And he was. He did this weird smile which I've never seen him do before.

"I um-" He narrowed his eyes at me as I struggled to put into words what I wanted to say. I had been angry at Damon for awhile now that I didn't know how to act like I wasn't anymore. There was this guard up and I was struggling to bring it down. "Sorry..."

"It's ok." He scooted closer so our knees were touching. "Talk to me," he said quietly, like he was desperate to hear what I had to say. For the last few weeks I've told him to leave me alone. This was the first time I had gone to him, willing to talk.

These serious moments were rare between us, I didn't know quite know how to handle them, and it looked like Damon didn't know either.

"You were good today," I said to him and he raised his brows. "With Caroline's mom."

"Mia, what's going on?"

I felt so stupid. Like I wanted to cry all of a sudden. I inhaled sharply and looked away. "Ok so, um, I was really hurt when I saw you with Katherine." He looked down, hating the reminder of what he did. "And I just blamed it on because of who you were to why you did it." He pursed his lips together and nodded, like he was used to hear that. "I didn't let you explain, I just shut you out." His hand came to the side of my thigh, nudging me gently, wanting me to look at him in the eye. "I didn't attempt to try and understand why you did what you did. But thinking about it, it makes sense. You waited for her for over a life time, thinking she was either dead or that you wouldn't see her again. You love her."

"Loved," he corrected softly.

"You'd only known me a few months. Of course it was going to be her." Damon hung his head for a moment, watching my hands fidget in my lap. "And I get it. I didn't before, but I'm starting to."

"Amelia, vampires feel things ten times over. Over sensitive, I guess you can call us." Damon took his glass and swallowed the entire contents. He focused on a spot on the wall for a moment, choosing his words. "When I saw her, Mia, right over there, I wasn't thinking. I couldn't believe she was here. My emotions took over and all I could feel was what I'd been feeling over the last century... Empty. I wasn't used to it because I was beginning to forget what that felt like." His eyes lifted to meet mine. "I'm sorry I ever hurt you." His hand pulled mine into his. "It's the last thing I want to do these days."

"These last few days have sucked," I admitted. "Not talking to you, it feels weird, wrong." He nodded in agreement, watching me carefully. This was hard because it wasn't what I wanted to do, but it needed to happen. "I'm not ready to go back to where we were before Katherine. I know you say there are no feelings there, but... " I lifted my shoulder up at him. "And I have to sort through some stuff too." We both needed to grow before we could ever go there again, but there was hope. After today, I could see it. "I saw today what a good friend you can be. I kind of wanted that guy to be my friend."

"Friend?" Damon tasted the word. "Don't have many of those." He shot me a side smile.

"That's because you're really annoying. Only some of us can put up with it."

For the first time since we entered the room, we both smirked.

"So, should we hug or something?" Damon shifted his gaze.

"No, ew, don't touch me." I got up and pretended to leave. He chuckled and grabbed me by my waist, pulling me into him. I pressed against his chest, but refused participation in the hug.

"You know, friends do other stuff too." He wiggled his brows down at me.

"I'm way ahead of you," I told him. "I've already signed us up for Figure Skating."

He sighed and looked up. "I forgot what a dork you are."

He bumped me with his shoulder as he past. I looked at him strangely, like I had no idea what he could be on about. Dork? Na. Cool was the word he was looking for.

"By the way, you and Caroline aren't going anywhere near my stash," he said as held the door open for me.

"What do you mean?"

"You're underage."

"So? When has that stopped you?"

"I'm just looking out for my friend, Mia." He looked down at me. "I do that now."

"What other benefits do I get?"

"If you take the first left at the top of the staircase I can show you." He smirked.

"But that's your bedroom?" I said, pretending like this deeply confused me.

He rolled his eyes. "Are you staying?"

"No, I'm going to go find Elena and head off," I told him. "I'll see you later."

"See you later... friend," Damon replied, like the word was foreign to him.

I turned away with a smile. I didn't realise how much I had missed Damon and how much being angry at him was really affecting me until now when I felt this huge weight I didn't know I had lifted off my shoulder.

I couldn't see Elena so I headed down to the basement to see if she was with Caroline, making a visit to her mom.

Instead I found Stefan bending over Damon's blood supply, staring intently at a bag of O negative blood. Crap, I was O negative. Was that Stefan's favourite brand?

"Stefan," I alerted him to my presence. He pulled himself away from the blood bag to acknowledge I was there. "As your BA sponsor, I can tell you that's not a good idea." I treaded carefully into the room. "Think of Elena, think of how much she will nag you when she finds out and trust me, the woman is like a dog with a bone, she will find out."

"What are you doing?" We both turned to see my twin in the doorway.

It's so hard being right all the time.

"Thanks for holding this for me, Stefan." I took the blood bag out of Stefan's hands. "It's mine," I informed a doubtful looking twin. "I've got your back," I whispered to Stefan and gave him a pat on the back. "I donated to the cause for Caroline," I lifted the blood bag in front of Elena, ever so quick on my feet. "O negative blood, see?"

"We're A positive, Mia." Elena rolled her eyes.

"Really?" I looked back at Stefan. "Since when?"

"Birth."

"Then who's O negative?"

"I don't know?"

"Right. Well then I'll go give this A positive blood to Caroline." I nodded at Elena and glanced over my shoulder back at Stefan. "This concludes our BA meeting for this week."

"What the hell is BA?" I heard my twin ask as I moved up the stairs.

"Blood anonymous," Stefan replied. "It actually helps."

"What? Really?"

"We're going soon, twin," I called back down and closed the door, giving the two lovers some privacy. I was glad to hear my meetings with Stefan were helping. I did a lot research online. I basically used AA tips and applied them in Stefan's situation and it looks like I was doing a damn fine job.

I decided to go back to where I left Damon's wallet and order that TV, but right where I was sitting was Caroline. She was hugging a pillow tightly to her chest and staring down at the ground. She let out a little sniff every now and then.

"Here." I threw her the O negative blood. She caught it but put it to the side. "Some bad news," I said to her, moving into the room. "Damon is being a little bitch and not giving up his alcohol. Do you want a lift home with Elena and me?"

She frowned and shook her head. "I can't go home."

"Because of your mom?" I asked her, tucking my hands into my back pockets.

"Because I'm scared." She let out a shaky breath.

"Scared?" I sat down on the coffee table in front of her. "Why?" A tear slid from her eye. "Whoa, no tears here." I wiped it away. "C'mon now, we'll get through this, Carebear."

"Katherine's going to be there and she's going to want me to tell her everything that happened today." I leant back slightly. "She told me I had to spy on Elena and Stefan and report back to her." So she really didn't care about Damon? I was sure he was listening somewhere and heard that. I wondered if it still bothered him. "Mia, I'm so sorry. I didn't want to."

"I know." I nodded. "We figured it out. Well, the twin did. Doesn't mean she's the smarter twin or anything."

"You all knew?" Caroline looked surprised. Our acting must have been on point. Especially mine. "Were you mad?"

"The twin was. I knew there was something fishy going on." I could see how scared she was and it made me feel like shit that we didn't try and reach out to her earlier. She must have felt so alone. "What has she got on you?"

"Matt," she immediately sobbed as if only now she's been able to let this all out. "She threatened Matt."

I jolted back like Caroline had just given me an electric shock. "She did WHAT?" I said outrageously. "My Matthew?" I pointed to myself. "Matthew the Beast Donovan?" Caroline nodded. "Oh hell to the no. Bitch is dead. DEAD! Game over, that's it." I was seething! Nobody and I mean nobody threatens my Matthew and gets away with it. The bitch had to go.

I cracked my knuckles.

"I'm so scared of her, Mia. I am so scared," Caroline cried, shaking all over.

And just as I went to reassure her, the twin butted in. "You should be, Caroline. We all should be."

"Not exactly comforting, Elena..." I said

"Stefan says you can stay here," Elena said, rubbing her hand up and down Caroline's arm. "For as long as you want."

Caroline nodded. "We're going to go, but if you need us, you know we are," I said to her and stood up.

"Thanks guy." She wiped up her eyes. "I'm so sorry."

Wow, I was getting a lot of apologies today.

"All forgotten."

Elena said her goodbyes to Stefan and we went out to our car. We were quiet for the first five minutes of the drive, the events of the day finally sinking in.

"Elena," I said, turning my head. "I'm sorry I'm annoying."

"It's ok, you can't help it." I fanned my hand out and she let out a smile. "I'm sorry I snap at you." More apologise! Something must have been in that lemonade that little girl was giving out. "Truthfully, I wish I could handle these situations like you sometimes." I gawked at her. Do my ears defy me or was that almost a compliment? "Ok you can stop doing that now."

"I'm just surprised," I replied and looked out the window. "Can't believe Katherine threatened Matt."

"You can't?" She arched a brow.

I shook my head and got out my phone.

Mia: I've got your back, bro.

Matt: Thanks?

Mia: You are seriously welcome, Matt.

Mia: Love you man.

Matt: Are you drunk?

"Stefan wants to start drinking human blood again," Elena said and I lifted my head from my phone. Oh what, I thought our BA meetings were working. "He thinks if he has a little bit each day he could build a tolerance to it."

"Not that I don't have faith in Stefano, but last time he had human blood, I had two holes in my neck," I told her. "Do not want to revisit that."

"We're going to try it. He's going to have a little bit of my blood everyday and-"

"Excuse me? Your blood?" She nodded. "I'd just like to point out that if I did that with Damon, there'd be all sorts of judgement thrown at me."

"Damon and Stefan are two very different people, Mia." I don't think Elena was ever going to like Damon.

"Ah, he's not so bad, Elena. He makes mistakes but he's changing."

"I'll believe it when I see it," she concluded, but she'll never see it because they're little things, but I noticed them and I hoped it was just the beginning.

We went our separate ways when we got home, she went to her room and I went to mine. I finished changing into my pyjamas when my phone beeped.

Damon: Night, friend.

Mia: Who dis?

Hehehehe.

I laid down in bed with only my phone lighting up the room. I scrolled through Facebook to see what I had missed throughout the day. There were pictures from today scattered all over my news feed, I saw a few where I was in the background. Lol, there was even one of three girls but in the background Courtney's chair was midway tipping back and if you zoom in on my face I looked delighted.

Another photo also caught my attention.

Three photos in fact.

And tagged in them?

Jeremy.

My brother.

And who else?

Only my nemesis.

What the f!

In one photo her lips are on his cheek. In another her arms are thrown over him and in another he's staring at her butt.

Grumbling to myself, I reached under my bed and pulled out my bat. I then proceeded to make my way to Jeremy's room.

The boy had to learn.

I pushed open the door with my bat and Jeremy had a towel wrapped around his head, fresh from coming out of the shower. He also had a toothbrush in his mouth.

He glanced down at my bat. "You saw the photo, didn't you?"

All that could be heard from outside his room for the next five minutes was: helplhelphelphelphelphelp.

Happy birthday Rachael!
