Chapter Fifty-Five

"That surprise visit you made yesterday, do you think you coulddo it again, like today?" Kurt mentions in the middle of our lunch date, leaving me speechless for a few seconds.

"Are you serious?" I inquire with a curious smile. I clearly had no idea what I started by listening to my best friend's suggestion.

"I am," he insists, and his grin reminds me of that brief hour I spent at his place, in his bed, last night.

"I'll see what I can do about it," I promise, since it's no question I would like to repeat our get-together, but I didn't even think today might bean option. Actually I meant to discuss something completely different with him during our lunch and I'm not even sure he'd still want me to visit him after he hears the story. "But I also need to tell you something." My smile disappears as I collect my thoughts. It's something I should have told him days ago, but now it finally feels like the right time.

"That sounds serious," he notes with concern on his face and I rush to reassure him there's nothing to worry about.

"It's not that serious, but it's about Gina's father," I reveal, and he raises a brow in confusion.

"I'm listening," he encourages me softly.

"He found out about Gina dating Cary from Facebook and he left me a voice mail the other day. He wanted to know if I approve of their relationship and tell me that he doesn't," I sum up the details quickly.

"Interesting," he comments and pauses, so I feel the need to add something.

"I called him and made it clear that it's none of his business. I just thought you should know about it." I already feel better now that the secret is out, keeping it from him simply wasn't right.

"Does he know about me?" He inquires about something I didn't see coming, although I probably should have.

"I have no idea, maybe if Gina told him, I don't talk to him unless it's necessary, like it was now." I just want Kurt to understand that Frank completely belongs to the past and he isn't relevant to our relationship at all. But it doesn't change the fact that he's a part of Gina's life, so in a way he is still a part of mine and Kurt isaware of that. But there's no reason he should worry about my ex.

"I see. Is he dating someone?" His second question surprises me even more, looks like he does consider my ex a threat despite everything I said.

"I don't know and honestly I don't care," I respond calmly. I never showed any interest in Frank's love life, I was too busy raising the daughter he'd abandoned. Although I always hoped he would get his heart broken someday, just like he'd broken mine.

"I'm sorry, I'll stop with the questions," Kurt apologizes and places his hand over mine. He probably thinks he crossed a line.

"No, it's okay, you can ask me anything." I put my other hand over his gratefully. I know that as long as we're open with each other about our past it won't be able to cloud our relationship. That's why I told himwhat happened.

"I'm done and I appreciate that you told me about it," he reassures me and I smile at the thought that Will was right about Kurt's reaction.

"It's too late for him to start acting like a father," I comment as we continue eating. Looks like I'm still a bit hung up on Frank's behavior, talking about it opened up the wounds.

"I would agree," he says supportively.

"And he should damn well trust that I know what's best for my daughter," I declare a bit angrily.

"I like how you said my daughter," he points out with a smile.

"I like pretending he doesn't exist," I admit, which explains why I rarely talk about him with Kurt.

"I don't blame you and I'm all for that, actually," he agrees.

"Then, let's not waste any more time on him," I comment with a smile, putting a stop to the thoughts about my ex. Right now I only want to focus on the man who belongs to my present and hopefully my future.

"Works for me. So…I'll be home around seven tonight," he takes us back to a very different topic with a mischievous smile.

"Good to know. I might use my key then," I reply teasingly and I wish we could just skip to that part of the day.

"I promise I'll be surprised," he grins and I have to swallow the urge to kiss him right now. The evening cannot come soon enough.

o-o-o

When I enter Kurt's house with my key I'm the one who's surprised to find Keith there, not as surprised as he is to see me though.

"Hi, your dad gave me a key and said I could come over," I explain my presence a bit nervously.

"That's cool. He isn't home yet," he seems to adjustto the situation fast.

"I know, I'll wait for him," I look at him for approval.

"Okay. There's all kinds of food in the fridge in case you're hungry," he acts like a good host, and his attentiveness makes me smile.

"Thank you. Have you eaten already?" My maternal side surfaces.

"Yeah, I'm going out in a bit." I'm slightly disappointed at the first part, but given the reason for my visit, I'm glad he isn't going to be around when his dad arrives.

"All right, then I'll eat with Kurt," I state. Eating isn't what I'm here for, but Keith doesn't have to know that.

"Okay. He said he wants us to spend the weekend at your place again." Keith appears to be in a chatty mood and I should probably take advantage of it.

"That's the plan," I confirm.

"I suppose you will move in together soon," he guesses and although I'm not used to him leading the conversation, it's far from me to complain.

"Your father asked me about it, but I told him we should wait." I'd think he would rather ask Kurt about this, but I don't mind answering.

"Yeah," he seems to agree.

"Would you be okay with it?" It's time I take over with the questions.

"I guess it depends on if the rules are going to change," he points out, making me chuckle.

"I suppose your dad lets you do whatever you want," I comment with a smile. I understand why Kurt is so forgiving with his son, but in my experience some rules are inevitable.

"Pretty much," he admits.

"I'm sure we'll be able to come to an agreement when the time comes," I state tactfully. I certainly don't want to scare him off.

"Sounds good to me," he accepts with a smile that suits him well.

"Was your mom strict with you?" I get a little bold, tackling a topic I probably shouldn't.

"She was." His reply comes naturally, without any hesitation.

"I'm sorry, you probably don't want to talk about her," I give him a way out of this conversation.

"I don't mind, but I have to go now," he uses the opportunity or he really has to go, I can't actually tell. But I think we made some progress with this conversation already, and it feels good.

"That's fine, I'm glad we had a chance to talk," I state with a smile.

"Me too."

o-o-o

When I hear Kurt's steps on the stairs I take off the dressing gown and wait for him to show up, lying on his bed, wearing only my lingerie.

"Surprise," I welcome him with a smile.

"Wow," is all he's able to utter. He doesn't have to act surprised, he clearly is.

Which man wouldn't want to find an almost naked womanin their bed? It must have been one of his fantasies I'm all too happy to bring to life tonight.

"Keith said there's all kinds of food in the fridge, but I thought you might enjoy a different kind of dinner more," I say in a seductive tone, while I get on my knees to display my body even more, impatiently waiting for him to approach. My skin has been longing for his touch.

"You know me so well," he agrees and steps closer, unable to take his eyes off me, until he gets distracted again. "Wait, you talked to Keith? Is he home?"

"Not anymore," I reassure him and crawl to the end of the bed to get closer.

"Good boy," he comments and finally reaches me.

He leans forward to kiss me and the intensity with which our lips unite already shows that my surprise is working like a charm.

"Someone's wearing way too many clothes," I tease him playfully and rid him of his jacket.

I don't stop undressing him until he stands in front of me in his underpants alone. Only then do I allow him to join me on the bed, so I can serve him his well-deserved dinner.

o-o-o

"You're getting home later and later each night, what's up with that?" My daughter's playfully accusative tone, with which she welcomes me home, makes me chuckle.

"Last time I checked I am the parent," I point out and approach her to place a kiss on the top of her head.

"Hope it's Kurt you've been spending time with and not some new guy," she teases me and I'm really happy to find her in a good mood tonight. It probably helps that her boyfriend will be home the next day.

"Of course it's Kurt," I laugh at her comment.

"At least I can keep an eye on you two from tomorrow," she threatens me playfully.

"You are so funny," I compliment her and she responds with a satisfied grin.

"It's good to see you happy," she notes and I can only hope my smile reflects how much her words mean to me.
