Patricia flicked the back of Eddie's head and pushed him toward the corner of the room. "Would you stop being weird about this whole thing? She's a big girl. She can take care of herself."

He grumbled under his breath as they walked out of earshot of the rest of the adults.

KT chuckled and took a sip of her hot cocoa. "They still fight."

"Always," Joy smiled, unveiling the dark chocolate cake on the table.

Alfie looked around, eyebrows furrowed. "Where's Leo? He would usually be drooling over this thing already."

Jerome smirked, leaning a shoulder against the wall beside Mara. "Like father, like son."

"I am unashamed of my love for cake, mate." The dark-skinned man said confidently.

Amber pulled her phone from her purse, checking for a text or missed call from their son. "I don't know where he is. It's not like him to be late."

"Like father, like son." Jerome murmured.

"No, she's right, he's never late." Fabian spoke up.

"Who's never late?" Louisa asked, refilling her mug.

"Leo. Have you seen him?" Mara asked.

"Oh, he texted Josh like, five minutes ago. He's picking up Fiona's present and then he'll be right over. He'll only be a few minutes." She replied with a smile before she left the room so she could rejoin her friends.

Fiona grabbed Danni's arm and pulled them over to a corner, hissing quickly, "How'd the date go? Give me bullet points and the rest of the details later."

"We played laser tag and I whipped his sorry butt, what else is there to know?" Danni asked with a roll of her jade eyes.

Her best friend gave her a dead-panned look. "Did you see a different side of him? Is there more to him than you thought? Or is he not worth it?"

Danni moaned, her head rolling back on her shoulders. "I don't want to talk about this today. Especially right now – it's your birthday! Happy Birthday, FiFi."

Fiona smiled softly and hugged her. "Thanks, Dee Dee."

"So how's the party so far?" Danni asked, letting her go and walking toward their friends where they sat in the common room, laughing. "Having fun?"

"Of course, and what about you?"

"I'd be better if Leo was here, where is he?"

Fiona's dark eyes flitted to Josh and shrugged. "Josh got a text from Leo a few minutes ago. He's getting my present. He's so sweet."

"Well, once he gets here, the party will liven up."

Fiona gasped, pushing Danni's shoulder, and Jacob laughed.

"She's right Fiona." He smirked.

"We're all so bored without Leo." Louisa whined.

"When's he going to get here?" Jacob demanded.

Fiona scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "You're all so mean to me, and on my birthday, of all days!"

Josh chuckled, sipping from his coffee mug and slipping his fingers through his hair. "You're all weird. He'll be here soon."

"Just a little bitty thing," Amber pouted.

Jerome sighed, dragging his fingers through his hair. "Yes, Amber, just a little bitty thing; we really don't need anything elaborate."

"It's going to be perfect." Mara piped in.

"It's totally you guys." KT said. "It's perfect for you two. I'm sure it'll beautiful."

"Thank you, I'm glad someone agrees with us beside my children. You were always my favorite."

"Dude," Alfie exclaimed.

"Sorry, bro," he shrugged.

"So this weekend—" Joy began, marking the place on the calendar, but the shrill ring of a cellphone cut her off.

Amber nearly dove for her purse. She answered the call and her friends quieted when her face contorted into worry. She reached out and curled her fingers into Alfie's shirt sleeve, listening to the person on the other line speak. She pulled the phone away from her mouth, and spoke quietly, "Leo was in a car accident."

Leo's head pounded. His ribs ached. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he could hear a beeping that made his head hurt worse. When he tried to open his eyes, his eyelids protested and stayed closed. He was so tired; he didn't want to wake up.

Somewhere beyond the beeping, if he listened hard enough, he could hear people talking and asking questions. One voice sounded like his mother. Another was unfamiliar. He blocked those two out to hear the other voice.

Fiona.

She was sitting in the room. She was next to his bed. She was worried about him. She was blubbering, muttering about him. He strained to hear her voice better. It was so sweet, so soothing.

"He really doesn't deserve this you know. He's too sweet for this. All he was doing was getting my birthday present, which I know would be beautiful and perfect because that's the kind of guy Leo is; he puts so much thought into presents. Why did that idiot in that car have to hit him?"

"Fiona."

Josh.

Josh was here too.

That had made Leo feel better, knowing that Josh cared enough about him to be there after he had been hit by a car.

He was hit by a car.

He doesn't remember that, but he doesn't remember a blank, white light only a few seconds after stepping off the pavement to cross the street on the way to Fiona's house.

He has amazing friends.

Josh was saying something, but it kept waving in and out of Leo's mind. He only caught a couple words. He said something about Fiona calming down, and that he was going to be okay.

Of course he would be okay.

Leo forced himself to open his eyes this time. He wanted to tell Fiona he was okay.

What he saw across from him made his stomach tie in a million knots and the machine that recorded his pulse speed up erratically.

Fiona and Josh were kissing.

Review?

"Two hours in, saw her skin, threw the shovel aside. Pulled her from the dirt, caught a look in her eye. She's got worms in her mouth, spiderwebs in her hair. Yeah, she may be fucking dead, but I don't care, yeah! D-E-A-D! She's my graveyard baby! D-E-A-D! She's my horror queen!" -Dead As Fuck, Motionless In White
