"I can't believe after so long, she's lawyering up. And after one interview from Lucas!" Mikeala exclaimed, "I mean, what'd he say?!"
"Something that got under her skin." Kuro replied, "Nile, could you dig up some dirt on Davida's aunt and uncle?"
"Uh, yeah. Why?" Nile frowned, but he was typing away.
"Get all you can on them, and I want it- ASAP." Kuro ordered, and Nile nodded, turning his attention back to the computer screens in front of him.
"What're you thinking Kuro?" Mikeala asked her long- time friend.
"Something Lucas mentioned to Davida." Kuro replied.
It was a few hours later that Kuro walked into the interview room. Surprisingly, she had Ryuga with her.
"Agent Katashi." Davida didn't take any notice of Kuro sitting in front of her, "My, my, my... What did I do to get the honor of being in the same room as you?"
"Don't answer that." Kuro said at the exact same time Davida's lawyer said, "Stop speaking, Davida."
"No, I want to talk." Davida snapped at her lawyer. She turned her attention back to Ryuga, but Kuro spoke before she could.
"So you want to talk? Okay, let's talk about your childhood." Kuro leaned back in her chair, a smirk on her lips.
Davida snapped her mouth shut, "No."
"You were the one who just said you wanted to talk. And you didn't specify what about either, so... You just opened yourself up for an interrogation." Kuro smirked.
Davida looked at her lawyer, almost desperately, but the man sighed, "Agent Blackheart's right, Miss Gambol. You'll have answer her questions now."
Davida sat still for several moments, and one could feel the tension in the room rise as she and Kuro half glared, half stared at each other.
Finally, Davida asked, "What do you want to know?"
Ryuga stepped up at that moment, "Where's Nero?"
"I thought we were talking about me?" Davida gave Ryuga a clipped look, to which Ryuga sneered at.
"Remember, you didn't specify about what you wanted to talk about. So we can use that to our advantage and ask you anything we want." Ryuga snapped back, leaning on the table, gold eyes flashing murderously.
Davida leaned away, suddenly looking a little fearful. She shrugged it off quickly, her face becoming impassive as she said coldly, "My childhood home."
"Which one? Your dad's or your aunt's?" Kuro asked.
"Figure it out for yourself." Davida suddenly seemed cocky, "But how long has it been? Forty eight hours? Longer? With the injuries he has, he won't last much longer. So I'd choose carefully, if I were you."
Ryuga and Kuro looked at each other, before Kuro nodded slightly and the man walked out of the room. Davida spoke again.
"Ryuga, hon," Ryuga went stiff, "How's that lovely fiance of yours doing?"
"Ryuga, out. Now." Kuro snapped when the man started to turn. The tone of her voice dared him to disobey her. After a moment, Ryuga walked out of the room, the door slamming shut behind him.
Davida sighed, almost dreamily, "My, I would've loved to have given him to Caspian all those years ago. Many men would've loved the challenge of breaking him."
Kuro's black eyes blazed with a murderous fire, yet at the same time seemed to be nothing but promises of a cold death.
Davida smirked at the look, "So let's talk about me-"
"You were abused as a child." Kuro stood up, "Electric shocks. Beatings. Burns. Rape. Torture. You suffered through it from the time you were four to the time you were eighteen. At that age, your aunt and uncle's Los Vegas home mysteriously caught fire. After that, you inherited everything- the summer house in Miami, the hundreds of millions of dollars... But the damage had been done and you turned into a drug king- or queen, since you're a woman- and soon started running the biggest drug and sex trafficing ring in the world." Kuro met Davida's shocked and terrified gaze, her black eyes nothing but cold abysses, "You wanted other people to feel the pain you did as a child. But before you did that, you stalked potential victims. Watched to see if they were the right material." Kuro's voice began to rise, "And you chose Lucas McKandless- lured him in with his past drug addiction problems! You did the same with Nero Konzern!"
Davida abruptly stood up, snarling back, "I was saving them! Their families looked at them like they were nothing!"
"So your idea of saving them is making them feel like nothing more than a toy?" Kuro snapped back standing up to her full of height of 5' 10, and towering over Davida, who didn't back down, "They had people who care for them! Lucas' brother was helping him get through the terror and pain of having the constant nightmares of his father! Julian was trying to make sure Nero didn't get a record! He wanted the best of his brother!"
"He didn't want his family name to be smeared." Davida sneered.
"And then there's my brother." Kuro's voice went unnaturally low, and Davida froze, knowing what the woman was about to say, "You framed him for the murders of the people who disgraced your mother. He was put in a mental institution for something he didn't do."
"You were feeling threatened by him!" Davida found her voice, and her own voice was low, "He was rising in the ranks quickly- outclassing you on every level! You should be thanking me that I got rid of your competition!"
"Thanking you?!" Kuro's voice was dangerous, before she straightened again, "You're right about one thing- I was feeling threatened by him. But not because he was outclassing me. It was because he was everything like I had been in my first few years as a detective- Cocky, arrogant, oblivious. It was only a matter of time before he did something that would make his whole career crash on top of him. I wasn't threatened that he would become better than me, because I knew he would, it was because he didn't see what I did and had expirenced myself."
"Oh?" Davida scoffed, unbelieving, "And what was that?"
"Let the real killer of a high profile case get away." Kuro said, darkly.
Davida went silent. She stared at Kuro in shock.
"And now because of your big mouth you just signed your death warrant. You'll die in jail, Davida Gambol." Kuro gathered her files in a hurried fashion, and started for the door, "And I'll be there when they put the needle in your arm."
"You still don't know where Nero is." Davida smirked, victoriously.
"Watch the news tonight. I think you'll find I do." The door slammed shut behind Kuro.
"Wow." Was all Nile could bring himself to say as the group around him all stared at the recording of the interview.
"She... She..." Bao stuttered.
"She was worried about you." Mikeala said, "And if you remember, she did drop hints and warnings."
"I remember now..." Bao shook his head, "Kuro was trying to keep me from making a rookie mistake."
"As she did several times in her career." Mikeala stated, softly, "Everytime she did, Bao, she'd come to me. After talking about it herself, she'd launch into a rant about how to stop you from doing the same." Mikeala paused, "And she came to me before she looked for your help on the case. She wanted to have a pysch evaluation for fear that she wasn't strong enough to face you after ten years of not ever seeing you."
Bao blinked several times, and everyone could see the tears in his eyes. He was trying desperately not to cry. After a moment, he finally wiped his sleeve across his face.
"So, where does Kuro think Nero is hidden?" Wales suddenly asked, "Because I still need to call Julian to give him an update."
Mikeala smirked, "Across country and in the south."
"Huh?" Wales blinked.
"Nero's in Miami, Flordia."
