River liked being able to speak to her baby. It was proving to be very useful.

As she had been writing about the day's events, baby had helped her remember some of the little things she hadn't been paying attention to and had made her laugh more than a few times.

It was almost like having the Doctor with her.

Almost.

Right then, you clever child of mine. The Tardis told me what would help me get your father out of trouble. The fruit, which I suppose lead to our connection and something else I can't figure out. She said 'The beetle of the night. A shining beetle, brilliant blue and rare.'

Cool. Riddles are cool.

River laughed again, picturing the Doctor defending his precious bowties and fezzes.

Alright, alright, riddles are cool. But we have to figure this one out. Fast.

There was a moment of silence as the two considered possibilities.

Oh, of course!

What, darling?

The beetle! Shining and blue and rare! Mum, didn't you and dad just come back from Egypt?

River's eyes grew wide. Of course! The scarab!

She tossed her diary on the bed and stood, walking over to her bag.

It's not in here! I've left it in the Tardis!

Where are we going to get another one?

River sighed and sat back on the edge of the bed, stroking her belly.

I suppose we're going to have to do something that your father will be furious about...

What?

Such excitement from such a small thing made River smile again.

"Go back to Egypt and get it." she said aloud.

"NO." the Doctor yelled at the scanner in frustration.

River had JUST recovered. She can't go to Egypt now!

He didn't have a clue why she would even pick NOW to go back. There was obviously no reason.

Then he thought back to when they had gone to Egypt when they were younger. The first time.

"I shouldn't have given her that bracelet! She's causing all sorts of trouble with it."

He went back to sulking, knowing he was in no position to stop her and planning a good argument when he saw her next.

Rory and Amy were sitting on the couch in their living room watching River pack.

"River please just..."

"No, dad. I'm going."

"But you don't even.."

"Mum it'll be fine."

Every time they tried to get her to stay or let them come, she shot them down.

There was no way they were going to keep her from this adventure. She had to go. The Doctor even told her about it a bit.

So I need a spell to shrink that weeping angel. And I need the pass code for the hidden chamber.

Oh easy. Do you remember what it looks like?

River pictured the keypad in her mind.

I can work on this. I mean...It's not like I have anything better to do, right?

River smiled.

Well you could not move around so much, for a start. I'm trying to get us to Egypt and you're making me feel sick.

Sorry, mum. It's a bit cramped in here.

River found she was enjoying the ability to converse with the baby.

It was rather useful too.

Through their conversations, River figured out that the baby's mind was a brilliant mixture between her mind and the Doctor's mind. Now that his or her mind was working on the pass code, she felt confidant that it would be solved by the time they got there.

Everything was starting to come together.

River walked back out into the living room, carrying her backpack on her shoulders and her holster and gun around her waist, under her belly.

"Alright then, I'm off."

"Can we just talk to you for a minute first, please?" Amy said exasperated.

"Oh alright." River shrugged the bag off her shoulders. "What is it?"

"We just want to know what you're plan is. I mean, you obviously can't change history. If you're going with a past version of the Doctor, how are you going to..."

"Hide this?" River said, pointing at her stomach.

Hey! the baby protested

Oh, you know what I meant!

"I'll show you how."

She pulled out the bracelet the Doctor had given her so long ago and slid it on, her belly disappearing.

Rory's mouth dropped.

Amy and River shot him a look and he quickly turned it into an awkward yawn.

"Wait. I've seen you wear that before." Amy said. "In America."

"Well I was pregnant in America and you couldn't know. So I wore this."

"Cool." Amy said, grinning mischievously.

River raised an eyebrow, but decided not to ask. Pulling back on her backpack, she looked at her parents in turn.

"Was that all? I've really got to get going."

"One more thing. What happens if you think about you-know-what and the Doctor doesn't know what to do to keep it from...you know."

River sighed.

"Look, don't worry about it. I'll be perfectly fine, I won't think about it. I'll be back really soon, I promise."

Amy stood and hugged her.

"Please be careful."

"I will." River replied, pressing buttons on her vortex manipulator.

Oh not that thing! Can't we just walk or something? Maybe steal another Tardis?

"Oh, hush. You know perfectly well it's the only..." River cut herself off, realizing she was talking out loud.

"What?" her dad said to her, standing.

They looked confused and worried still.

River raised her eyebrows and smiled apologetically as she pressed the button.

"Spoilers."
