Chapter 51

"This is it" Daryl whispered to Andi pushing open the door, she was looking up the corridor worried that the sudden noise of the door squeaking open would alert the walkers to their presence. The ones closest turned and looked down to the darkness of the corridor, Andi put her hand on Daryl's back, causing him to freeze. They both stood still while a few walkers turned to look down the dark corridor and slowly began to move in their direction.

"Daryl" Andi said putting her hand on his back, causing his to freeze. He looked around to see a few of the walkers starting to shuffle down the hallway towards them.

"Inside" he said slowly twisting around and guiding Andi into the room, with any luck the walkers will walk by and they would be undetected.

Andi ran in the room, her machetes drawn with Daryl following closely behind her, closing the door quietly.

"Shit" Andi dodged out of the way of rotting and dead hands, swinging around behind the stabbing the walker in the head and pulling the blade out as it fell to the ground. Daryl kicked another in the chest, shining his torch at it just as it was about to take hold of Andi. He stabbed the walker in the head before turning around to the sound of scratching at the door.

Andi pulled her machete from the eye of the last walker in the room and joined Daryl leaning against the door.

"There are bodies over there" she whispered pointing to the corner of the darkened room "I didn't get a chance to look at them though."

Daryl pushed his back up against the door, the walkers in the corridor had heard the pair taking down the three walkers in the room and were now clawing at the door to get into them. "The door will hold" he said hitting Andi's arm and pointing to the corner "you check them."

Andi nodded handing Daryl one of her machetes in return for his much brighter torch, she scurried quickly over to the corner and knelt next to the bodies. She rolled the first body over, he was missing most of his internal organs were missing as were his arms and most of the skin from his face, but she didn't recognise the man. She moved the first man off the torso of the second man and again she did not recognise him. She moved over to the third body and turned it over, she didn't recognise the woman missing most of her face but Andi could tell it was none of their group. She wiped her brow and rubbed her eyes, the room was dusty and the stench of the three dead walkers was starting to overpower the medium sized room. She crawled back over and sat next to Daryl at the door.

"I know this part of the prison" she said planting her feet on the floor and leaning against the door, the walkers were still trying to get through, scratching the metal door "we're near the gut of it."

Daryl shrugged, resting the back of his head against the door and closing his eyes "there a easy an' quick way out?"

Andi grinned and moved so that she was kneeling in front of him, leaning over him with her hands on his knees "do you remember when I first got here and we were talkin' in the tower?"

Daryl frowned "yeah sure."

"You don't, do ya?" she grinned again, Daryl looked into her piercing eyes.

He remembered every conversation they had, everything they ever talked about. He looked up at her, once again hoping she couldn't see the fact his face was bright red.

"Yeah I do" he protested, frowning again and looking at his fidgeting hands, she was leaning so close into him.

Andi rolled her eyes, she knew that the fact she was so close to him would be making him uncomfortable and there was no where for him to go to try and get away from her.

"When I was a rookie in the army we did riot training here" she said quickly, to get the conversation moving, she wanted to get out of this place and fast "so we saw the plans of this place. In most prisons they have an armoury a few miles out of the proximity, in this one though they built an armoury and emergency tunnels from the centre of the prison out to the southern side."

Daryl looked up at Andi and nodded "the armoury" he said.

Andi nodded with a grin "we can stock up amo and guns, walkers wouldn't have got down that way, it should still be clear and closed, from there it'll be a free run out."

It was a good idea, Daryl remembered one of the times they were on watch, before Blake and his men tried to take the prison, Andi had told him about the armoury and if Blake had not come when he did they would have already cleaned it out.

"Good plan" he said slowly standing up "we ain't gonna get out back that way." He put his ear up to the door, strangely there was silence, there were no shuffling feet or scratching. "I'll open" he said looking at her, machetes ready, she nodded "just a little, will be able to tell."

He opened the door only a few centimetres and the door came open, being pushed by about four walkers. Andi slashed out at the first, it dropping to the ground which slowed down the other three from managing to get in the room. She pushed the next one back and stabbed again at its head, the machete entering its dead brain between the eyes. It fell backwards onto the other two which gave both Andi and Daryl time to pull the first walker into the room and close the door shut.

"Looks like we stuck here for a little while" Andi said crouching down checking the dead walker, just making sure it was dead. "You think the others might come back down?" Andi asked suddenly.

Daryl shrugged "I hope not, Ty might wanna come look but I think Maggie will talk 'im out of it." He was pacing the room now, he wanted out of here, he wanted to get down into the armoury and then out of the prison all together, it was a mistake coming back here.

"What about that puppy? I'm not sure having a dog around is gonna be a good idea" Andi said quietly, completely unaware of what Daryl was doing and thinking "what if we were in a situation like this and it wouldn't stay quiet?"

"I think its good for Beth to be able to concentrate on something other than this world" Daryl said not really thinking about what Andi was saying, just talking. He knelt down next to one of the bodies and shone his torch over there bloodied bodies. He bit his lip and ran his thumb over the corner of his mouth, suddenly standing up and turning to Andi.

"I know how we gonna get outta 'ere" he said putting the torch in his mouth and holding his hand out to Andi.

"What?" she asked him standing up "I can stand without help thanks" she stand, moving next to him and looking at the body and then up to Daryl.

Daryl rolled his eyes and took the torch out of his mouth "c'mon Andi, how do ya think we gonna get out?" he asked with a grin on his face looking from her down to the body and back up to Andi."

She frowned "we don't really..." then it hit her what Daryl was thinking "fuck me" she said with a grin on her face looking at the redneck "d'ya think it would work though?"

Daryl grinned back at her and shrugged "only one way I know to find out" he said taking one of Andi's machetes from her hand and stabbed down at the walker, cutting through its skin and bone, exposing its guts, organs and tissue.

He stood up and looked at Andi "you want to the honours?" he smiled bending down and scooping up a handful of blood and guts, smearing it over Andi's back and shoulders.

"Oh god" she gagged "they smell even worse when they plastered all over ya."

Daryl continued to put the guts all over Andi's legs and down her arms, stopping suddenly standing in front of her.

"Um..." he said shyly, holding the handful of blackish red goo out to her "you might wanna do this bit" he said trying not to look her in the eyes or at the area in question.

Andi laughed and took the guts from him, rubbing it over her chest and stomach "such a gentleman Daryl" she said holding her hands out for some more blood. Once she was done Daryl cut open one of the other walkers and the pair of them spread the blood, organs and guts over Daryls clothes.

"I hope this works" Andi said as they readied themselves to open the door "or we gonna look fucking stupid."

"Yeah and dead" Daryl muttered, his hand wrapped around the door "it worked for you when you were out in the field waiting for Blake to attack, remember?" he asked her, almost urgently.

Andi nodded "yeah that's true, a walker walked right past me, didn't even know I was there."

Daryl nodded "there ya go, we go slowly out" he said "don't rush, you know the way so I'll be followin' you, ok?"

"Got it" Andi nodded, she had concealed her one of her machetes down her boot, the handle reaching almost all the way up to her knee. The other she held with the blade facing up her forearm and with some blood smeared over it so it didn't shine in any light. Daryl had done the same with his hunting knife.

He slowly opened the door, Andi stood back, hunched her back slightly and moved slowly towards the walkers that were shuffling into the room.

"They should be back by now shouldn't they?" Beth asked, cradling Hershey, worried that neither of them had emerged from the prison.

"Yeah" Ty said, fidgeting with his hammer "unless that herd got hold of 'em" he said. He wanted to go in and look for them but was unsure if he should. He knew the tunnels down there pretty well and he had been in a number of situations where he was well outnumbered by walkers and he had come out alive.

"I'm gonna back in" he said turning to Maggie "take the van, find somewhere safe just outside the prison gates, get away from the geeks here."

"Ty" Maggie said, putting her hand on his arm, pleading with big brown eyes "they said not to, they can look after themselves. Please, don't go."

Ty looked at Maggie and shook his head "I have to, we can't leave here without knowing. Now go, I'll find you when I get them."

He jumped out of the van, taking out a walker that had been standing near it and slammed the door shut.

"GO!" he shouted before running back up past the tank and into the prison cell block C and back into the tombs.

Andi and Daryl made it out of the room and past a about a dozen walkers, most not even batting a blood soaked eye at the pair. There was even a couple that started to follow them, not to attack but because they were moving, somewhere. Neither needed to say a word to each other, Daryl kept his distance from Andi and she lead him down a number of corridors, stopping at a closed door. In seconds Andi was joined by Daryl.

"What's wrong?" he whispered, staring directly at her.

"Please tell me you have your set of keys" she whispered into his ear, he nodded, turning so that his right side was facing the locked door and slowly lifted his hand up and into his pocket, pulling out the set of keys slowly, praying like hell that they didn't make too much noise as he handed them to Andi.

Andi took the keys and slowly turned so that her back was to the corridor, she felt Daryl move away from her and groan. She jingled the keys in her hands as he groaned, the noise covering the sound of the keys hitting each other as she tried to find the right key. She finally found it after about a minute, unlocking the door she turned to Daryl, her eyes telling him that she was ready, once again he was by her side. She slowly opened the door, waiting for Daryl to move through and into the empty corridor before following him, locking the door behind them.

Daryl shone his torch down the corridor, it was empty. Andi walked a little way down the corridor and turned to Daryl with a smile on her face "it's just down here" she pointed to the end of the hallway, both moving cautiously down the hall, even though the area was secured they didn't know if anything had made it in through the emergency passage and the other end.

They reached the end of the first corridor and were about to continue down the next when they heard a scream that stopped them in their tracks. The scream came from the corridor they had made it through disguised as walkers, the scream came from a man, the scream came from Tyreese.
