Chapter 46
...But Not Like This
Robin… I promise to wait for you… For as long as it takes…
Lucina continued looking into the sky where Robin disappeared into. He was gone, but it was only temporary. She had to believe that the tactician would return. He made a promise, and she had to place her faith in him. She felt a strange feeling all of a sudden. A ray of light consumed the area as everybody was blinded. Suddenly, she was somewhere else. She looked around at her new surroundings as it became obvious as to where they were. They found themselves at the temple on top of Mount Prism.
The temple was empty as not a single sound was made. It was likely that Naga had teleported them one more time, but the divine dragon didn't even show herself. "W-what just happened?" Lissa asked as she looked around.
"Naga teleported us again." Chrom said weakly. He recalled what had just happened to his friend. Robin was gone. "Dammit… You didn't have to…"
He sighed, and walked up to speak to the shepherds. He had to acknowledge what had just happened. He began to talk. "Everybody… Grima is no more. The evil that's threatened our world is gone. At the same time, we lost a great man because of this. Robin… He gave up his own life to end Grima for good." Chrom said as he showed a saddened expression. "He's the reason why the generations of the future will no longer have to fight an unnecessary battle. He ended this cycle of violence. Still, we must remember one more thing." He said as his voice began to shift into a more positive one. "Robin isn't gone. Naga told us before that there's still a chance for Robin to remain alongside us. We must believe in him. The bonds he's shared with everybody here will be the reason he'll come back. We simply must place our faith in him." He said with a weak smile.
The shepherds all looked at Chrom with approving smiles. "He's not the type to just die. He'll be back for sure." Inigo said with a grin.
"A hero who wanted to give up himself for his family and friends... No, Robin's going to be the hero who comes and lives another day!" Owain said with a hopeful smile.
"H-he's not just going to leave us all hanging here! He'll be back… I'm not crying!" Severa stuttered.
"He ain't giving up. He's only takin' a small rest. Best believe he'll be back in no time." Donnel said positively.
"A man who has done his absolute best to provide for the shepherds and his family. He isn't one to make his loved ones worry for him. He'll be back for them. I know it." Cordelia said with a weak smile.
"Robin won't just let it end here. He's always made the right choices in bargaining just the right amount. He's gonna come back and when he does, I'm giving him that silver card I promised." Anna said with a wink.
"Death is kinda cool and all, but Robin doesn't really think so, haha. That Robin will be back real soon. Speaking of death, there's this fun joke I remember! So a wyvern walks into a bar…" Henry said as Noire quickly covered his mouth and walked away from the shepherds.
"Robin doesn't strike to me as being the kind of person to just leave after doing something so stupid. He's got this." Gaius said positively.
"Y-yeah! Robin will be back! There's no way he'll leave us like this." Lissa smiled as she cleaned the tears from her face.
"Robin's a man that places others before himself and he's done much for all of us because of that. I won't accept this being his death. He'll return to us for sure." Sumia said with a hopeful expression.
"I always thought a hero would slay the dragon and return unharmed. I was wrong. A true hero gives up everything to protect others. Still, after that, there's no way he's gonna be gone forever. I'll believe as hard as I can." Cynthia said with a weak smile.
"My father always told me to try and look on the brighter side rather than moping around all the time. I think that's something we should all do. He wouldn't want us to cry for him or mourn. He'd want us to do our best. After all, it's not like he'll be gone forever." Morgan said as she held a smile.
"Morgan is right. We mustn't waste time feeling sad all the time. There isn't any need for it. Robin will return to us soon enough. We simply must place our faith in him." Lucina said as she tried to smile. "I made a promise to him, and I'm going to make sure I keep it."
Although he was gone now, they all believed he would come to them once more. They all shared the same sentiment. Robin would come back. He wasn't the type of person so simply let something end. It was only a matter of time. Chrom began to speak once more. "We will celebrate this victory for now. However, our real celebration will commence once he comes back. So for now, let us enjoy this victory!" He said with a smile.
Nearly all the shepherds had left the temple. They were all in much better spirits than before, but two shepherds in particular still remained saddened. Lucina remained in the temple as she knelt down and prayed. Morgan entered the temple as she saw her mother. She walked towards her and spoke to her. "Um, hey mom."
Lucina turned around as she saw Morgan look at her with a weak smile. Lucina tried to smile back. "Oh, hello Morgan."
Morgan walked up to Lucina. "Chrom said to get ready to head out. We're going back to Ylisstol soon." She said to her. She knelt down next to her. She looked downwards as she prepared herself to ask her a question. "Uh, I know it's not worth asking, but was father the one that tried keeping his decision a secret? His decision to kill Grima…"
Lucina weakly sighed. "Yes, he was. He didn't want anybody to find out. He feared that father would try to create precautions to stop him from doing so." She responded.
"I guess that makes sense. Chrom and I would've definitely tried to prevent him from being in the frontlines if we knew." Morgan sighed as well. "But he did tell you. He trusted you enough to fight with him and let him accomplish his goal."
Lucina looked away from the girl. "I had to force myself to let him. Deep down, I wanted to land the final blow myself. If I did, then maybe…"
Morgan grabbed her mother's hand. "Father wouldn't want you to feel any guilt, and I don't either. We have to hold on to Naga's words. The bonds father made with everybody will bring him back, and that bond you two shared was one of a kind. He'll be back soon. We just gotta believe." Morgan said as she did her best to cheer her up.
Lucina looked at the girl as she held a smile towards her. Lucina smiled and embraced her daughter. After all that's happened, Morgan still managed to remain positive. A trait she shared with her father. She did have a point though. They needed to place their faith in him. Robin was the type of person to never give up and accomplish the impossible. Cheating death was something he was more than capable of doing. "You're right. Robin will be back. So let's believe in him. No matter how long it may take, we must have faith." She said with a hopeful expression.
Suddenly, the temple began to glow brightly. A bright light consumed the temple as a divine figure showed herself to the two. She looked at Morgan and Lucina. "Protectors from the future, I thank you both for your help. This world will no longer face any threat from the Fell Dragon ever again." Naga said to them.
The princess looked at the divine being with a surprised expression, and replied "Oh, it is our honor, milady. We simply did what must been done."
Naga looked at the princess and young tactician with a curious expression. Both of them seemed to be hiding negative emotions. Emotions of those that have lost a person they cared deeply about. She spoke once more. "Lucina. Morgan. The tactician has gave up his life in order to grant this world a peace that no other person could have granted. Regardless, you both must keep this in mind. Robin still remains in this world."
Morgan looked at the divine dragon with a bright smile. "So he really is alive."
Naga nodded. "Indeed. He has no physical form, but his spirit lives on even now. I will do everything in my power to try and bring him back to you. It's the least I can do for what he's done." Naga said as she showed a slight smile.
The two blue haired girls looked at Naga with smiles. "Milady I… Thank you. Words cannot describe how thankful I am." She said brightly.
"After the sacrifices and struggles you have all gone through, it is the least I can do for you all. Regardless, you just remember that your faith and bonds with the tactician still remains an important factor. Robin still has to find his way back into this world." Naga said.
"I'm certain father will pull through. He's not the type of person to just give up. He'll do his best to find his way back. I know it." Morgan said optimistically.
Naga showed a smile once more. "Then you shouldn't be waiting too long. Once again, I thank you both for your assistance. Without you two, it would not have been possible to succeed." She said to the two as she began to disappear once again. She looked at the young tactician. "The young one from an unknown future, Morgan. Please remember this. Your memories will return soon. Do not force it. It will come to you naturally. When that happens, return here once more…"
"Huh? Return here for what?" Morgan asked. By the time she finished her sentence though, Naga had already disappeared.
Morgan looked at the ceiling with a confused expression. "Mom, got any idea what she meant by that?"
Lucina thought about her answer. "I can't really say. Perhaps it's related to Robin?"
"I was kind of thinking that too. Maybe my memories will be enough to bring father back." Morgan said positively. "Still, I'd rather have father back than instead of my memories. If I need to remember my past though, then so be it!" Morgan said happily.
Lucina looked at the girl as she smiled at her. A girl who continued to remain optimistic despite their circumstances. Her cheerful daughter. She heard footsteps come from behind them. "Hey, we're getting ready to leave. Don't want to leave you two behind." Chrom said with a weak smile.
"Right. Let's go home. There's still lots of stuff for us to do." Morgan said as she looked at him with a smile and walked outside.
Chrom looked at the girl with a surprised expression. She then turned around to Lucina. She seemed to be in a much better mood than before. "Erm, did I miss something?" He asked.
"Naga appeared to us once more. She told us about Robin. That he still remains in this world." Lucina said with a smile.
Chrom looked at Lucina with a smile of his own. "That's Robin for you. He won't even let death beat him." Chrom said with a laugh. "We won't ever give up on him. He'll be back for sure." Chrom said to his daughter.
Lucina smiled. Robin's sacrifice meant he was gone, but he was going to return. Robin was a person who always did his best to keep a promise, especially to his loved ones. Not only this, but Naga herself had given them her word. The tactician of Ylisse would return. It was only a matter of when. Lucina spoke to her father. "He made me a promise. That he'll return to us so that we may live out a life of peace... I believe in him. He'll return to us soon enough."
The Present
Lucina looked on through the sky as she flew through the air with Lissa. They were up high in the sky as they were headed towards their destination. The place in which it had all begun. "How close are we anyways!?" Morgan yelled out to her family members.
"I think we're pretty close. Lissa, this looks like the place, right?" Chrom said, uncertain.
"Huh?! I thought you were the one leading us there!" Lissa exclaimed.
"Did you two really forget where we were going?" Cynthia asked, surprised at the two.
"It was a long time ago, alright?! If anybody should he blames it's Chrom. How can our dear leader forget where he's been." Lissa said sarcastically.
"We really should've brought Frederick." Chrom said with a sigh.
Lucina laughed. "Father had that same reliance on Frederick even in my time." She commented.
"Dang, c'mon gramps! You really gotta get your stuff together." Morgan teased.
"Give me a break." Chrom said with a sigh.
Lucina continued to look around at the field below them. It all looked so lively and as green as the eye can see. It was a pretty sight. A sight she never grew tired of looking at. She then saw something that caught her eye. She saw a strange dark figure hidden below some grass. "Aunt Lissa, do you see that down there?" She asked.
"Huh?" Lissa asked. Lucina pointed to the direction in which she saw that mysterious figure. Lissa squinted as she looked in curiosity. "Yeah, I see it too. Think it could be something?"
"I believe so, yes." She responded. "If it's a person down there, they may need some help. The closest town is multiple miles away from here."
Sumia smiled. "Let's do so. We can't be shepherds unless we help out others in need, right?"
Chrom looked at the two with a grin. "Alright then. Let's see what's up down there. We'll figure out our destination later." He approved. The three pegasi swirled around as they aimed towards the ground. Lucina still looked at the figure. Somebody being out here on their own didn't really make too much sense. Still, the least they could do was help out.
"Who else to help but the shepherds, right?" Morgan said with a grin.
Lucina looked at her daughter with a smile. "Of course."
His final memory. He left his fiancé and future daughter with his final promise. His promise to return to them. He told them that he would do everything he could've to make it back to them, and he intended to do this even now. He had to. There was no other way. And because of it, he was now stuck in this dark space of nothingness. He couldn't let it all end here though. Not like this… He suddenly felt a strange feeling. One that he had felt before. A feeling he felt when he was brought back to his friends in the final fight with Grima. He heard a voice.
"A tactician who changed fate with the help of a future witness…"
Robin felt surprised. Felt… He could actually feel now. "What the… what's going o-"
"You've done much to allow those you love to live a peaceful life…"
He tried to move around. He could do so. "What's going on?" He thought.
"You do not deserve to die, nor do those who you've bonded with deserve to suffer…"
Robin tried to open his eyes. He could see a bright light in front of him. He saw the Divine Dragon speak to him. "Robin. Your were given life to serve a creation of despair and destruction, yet you managed to walk a path of peace and hope. You decided to put those you love above yourself…"
Robin looked at the Divine Dragon in front of him. She was the only thing he could see in this darkness he was in. "And I'd do it again if I had to." He said to her. He was surprised being able to hear his own words. He could finally speak.
Naga looked at the tactician with a soft smile. "You have recalled all of your past memories with those you loved. Not only this, but you have continued to fight in order to return to them. Your dedication and perseverance is admirable, tactician."
Robin looked at her with a confused look. He wanted to speak, but she wasn't done talking just yet.
"You will be reborn, Robin. You will no longer bear the blood of the fellblood. You will be born as an ordinary human. You will retain all of your memories thus far. Live once more. For those that you care about. For the family you have created. For the woman who has waited for you."
"Thank you, Naga! I promise to return the favo-"
He was cut off as he suddenly felt a strange feeling begin to consume him. He felt his entire body radiate with a strange energy. Divine energy. Suddenly, the feeling he felt stopped. He felt as if he had been transported somewhere. He saw darkness once more. That light Naga had created was gone. He stood alone in the darkness. He couldn't see anything. He tried to move. It felt like he was near a wall. He tried to lift his head up and down, but couldn't. "This is weird…"
He tried to move his hands in front of him, but once more it felt like there was an invisible door in front of him. Finally, he tried to turn around. He turned around and for some reason saw the darkness seem to get brighter. Not only that, but that invisible barrier seemed gone. He put his hand to his head, and realized something. His sight was completely covered by his hood. "... I'm gonna pretend this didn't happen."
He took off his hood from his face and saw that his cloak was on completely backwards. Not only that, but he wasn't stopped by any barriers or anything like that. He was just laying on the ground. "Gods, I hope nobody saw that." He said with a chuckle.
He took off his cloak, put it on properly and looked around. He saw a nice and calm grassy field. The wind slowly breezed through the air. He felt the air hit his face as he looked at the sky. He really was alive. He lied down on the grass once more. It felt relaxing. The bright blue sky, the calming winds. He had missed it.
He got up and began to walk. He noticed it looked like the field in which he had met Chrom for the first time. "Guess I've got a pretty long journey ahead of me." Robin sighed.
He yawned. He felt extremely tired. It was as if he hadn't slept in forever. He nearly tumbled forwards as he began to get drowsy again. At this rate, I'm just gonna end up passing out… Guess I'll rest once more before I get going.
Robin lied down on the ground. He looked at the bright blue sky with a smile. He was here. He just had to get himself to Ylisstol. He could finally get himself to the shepherds. To the people he loved. "Morgan, Lucina. Just a bit longer…"
Lucina looked at the figure below as the pegasus she was on touched the ground. It still didn't look clear as to what this figure was, but they were going to find out soon enough. She got off the pegasus and walked towards it. "Think it could be a risen?" Cynthia whispered.
"I hope not. Just in case though…" Morgan said as she brought out an Elthunder tome. "I'm ready to take it down if it is." She said with a serious expression.
"I'm sure that won't be necessary, Morgan." Chrom said with a weak laugh. He looked at the figure. He could hear a strange sound coming from it. He walked closer and closer until he eventually realized this strange sound was simply a snore. "Gods, you could hear that snore from a mile away." Chrom joked.
Lucina looked down at the figure as she stood right beside it. The large grass made it near impossible to see what it was even from this close. She took a deep breath and looked a bit closer. She saw something that caught her off guard. This was the exact same cloak Morgan and Robin would wear.
Morgan looked at her mother with a confused expression. "Um, is it a sleeping risen or something?" She asked as she walked next to her. She took a look as well. The figure was hooded and facefirst to the ground. The person had a cloak that was eerily similar to hers. "What the…"
Lucina moved the person so that their face was visible. This was extremely odd. Nobody else but Morgan had a cloak like this. Robin had one as well, but he wasn't here…
She flipped the person over, and saw a familiar face. A man with snow white hair. He was snoring as he still remained unconscious. "R-Robin…" Lucina said weakly, completely in shock.
Morgan looked at the man. It was completely identical to the man she called her father. "It… Is it him?" She asked. It seemed so surreal. They didn't receive a warning from Naga, get any news from scouts. Nothing. All of a sudden, he just happened to appear here for seemingly no reason.
Lissa and Chrom ran up to the two. "Robin! It's him! It has to be!" Lissa exclaimed as she covered her mouth, surprised.
Chrom looked at the man as he continued to snore. It was strange, but it definitely seemed like him. The friend he had met all those years ago. It had to be him. "Robin…"
Morgan looked at her mom with a flustered look. "Mom, what should we do?" She asked.
Lucina still looked at the man in front of her. It was simply too good to be true. The man she had been waiting for. He was right here in front of her. "I… I don't know."
Suddenly, the man's eyes began to twitch. He stopped snoring as he seemed to be waking up. He saw a few figures in front of him as they all looked directly at him. He closed his eyes and opened them once again. He began to clearly see who he was looking at. A young tactician spoke to him. "Erm, hey. Can you hear us?" She asked. The man knew who the girl was. A blue haired tactician with a cloak similar to his. His daughter.
He then felt somebody's arms on him. He looked upwards as he noticed the woman holding him. A princess of Ylisse. The future witness. His fiancèe. "Can you speak?" Lucina asked, still seeming very unsure of what to do.
The man looked at her. He could feel her heartbeat rise through her arms. She was trying to keep herself calm in the case that this was somebody else. But it wasn't. This was the tactician himself. Robin looked at her with a smile as he held her hand.
"Morgan. Lucina. I'm here."
Lucina smiled brightly as she heard his words. The man she had been waiting for so long was here with them. "Robin… Robin!" Lucina cried out as she buried her face in his chest.
Morgan smiled as tears began to flow through her eyes. She ran towards the two and hugged them. "Father!"
The three remained in an embrace with one another. After waiting for him and hoping he would one day return, he was here at last. The tactician they deeply cared for. The man who changed their lives. He was here. Lucina looked up at the tactician's eyes. He was looking at her with his usual smile. The smile she had missed. Lucina looked at the man and continued to embrace him. "I've spent everyday waiting for you. Robin, I'm so happy." She said joyfully. "I love you."
Robin looked at her as she smiled and continued to shed tears. He wiped away her tears and spoke again. "Hey, don't cry. I promise you, Lucina. I'll never leave your side ever again. I'll always be with you, now and forever." He said to her as he hugged her back. Lucina happily embraced the man along with Morgan. It was a miracle. They didn't know how or why he was there, but he was. He had returned. "I love you, Lucina."
Chrom looked on with Lissa as the blonde girl began to cry tears of joy. "Robin held onto his promise! He and my little Lucy get to live happily ever after!" She cried out.
Chrom looked at her sister with a smile and shook his head. "As emotional as always, Lissa." He then turned around to see Sumia and Cynthia both crying tears of joy as well. "Y-you guys too?"
"The heroic tactician returns to be with his daughter and wife! He really can create miracles!" Cynthia said as she wiped away her tears.
"Lucina doesn't have to wait any longer. They're going to be so happy together!" Sumia cried out happily.
Chrom sighed, but smiled once again. It felt great. The victory they had a year ago felt empty without the tactician who made their success possible. He gave himself up to defeat Grima for good. Still, here he was. "Not even death could stop you, huh? Heh, welcome back, friend."
Lucina let go of the man as she stared into his eyes once more. He continued to hold his smile. "Let's get off the ground, shall we." He said with a laugh.
Lucina nodded as she stood up and tried to bring up the tactician. Morgan remained in her position and refused to move. "Morgan? Erm, I'm trying to get up." Robin said to her.
Morgan remained still. "I'm not done yet." She said to him.
"You're acting like a child again, Morgan." Chrom said to her.
"Well, I am a child! I don't care what anybody says, you're going to deal with this, alright!" Morgan said with a pout as she continued to hug him.
Robin laughed. He got up from the floor as he tried to readjust the girl. Lucina grinned as she helped out and moved the girl to his back. "Is that any good?" Lucina said to her.
Morgan smiled and nodded. "Yup!"
Robin walked forwards to greet the rest of his family as they looked at him from a distance. Cynthia, Lissa and Sumia all rushed forwards as they ran towards the tactician. "Robin!"
"That's not good." Morgan said as she immediately jumped off of Robin's older tactician was pushed to the floor by the three girls. Morgan looked at her father as she flinched. "Oooh, that's gotta hurt."
"You're finally back! Oh gods, I can't believe it! You're really here!" Lissa said, still shedding tears.
"The tactician of the shepherds! Gods, I'm so happy! I knew you would return to Lucy again!" Cynthia said happily.
"We've waited so long, it's a blessing we get to see you again! We've all missed you so!" Sumia said with a smile.
Robin weakly smiled as the three remained on top of him. "T-thank you all. It's good to be back." He said as he signaled Chrom with a desperate expression.
Chrom simply laughed. "Alright, alright. Come on. We don't want to injure him." He said as he brought the tactician up to his feet.
Robin got up from the floor and laughed. "Thanks." He looked around once more. The bright blue sky. The calming wind. The elegant grass. The friends he made through the years. Life as a whole. "Been a while, huh?"
"Too long I think." Chrom replied. "Things have been pretty busy since you were gone." He said.
"Speaking of that, how long have I been gone? You guys all don't like that different so it couldn't have been too long." Robin said.
"It's been exactly one year. Lots has happened, but at the same time, not much." Chrom chuckled.
"A year?! What did I miss through this year?" Robin said, surprised.
A large group of pegasus knights could be heard from a distance as their wings flapped through the sky. The group turned around to see Cordelia leading a squad of Pegasi as they circled around them. "Remain where you are! We're here to escort you back to Ylisstol!" Cordelia yelled out to them.
"You've missed quite a decent amount, friend." Chrom whispered to Robin. The squad of Pegasi all landed as Cordelia hopped off and calmly walked towards Chrom as she noticed Robin stand right next to him. "I-is that really Robin?! So this is why you decided to head out today?" The redhead said to Chrom.
"No, not at all. We just happened to find him on our way to our destination. A heck of a surprise huh?" Chrom replied with a smile.
Cordelia looked at the tactician with a smile. "I'm glad you're back. Everybody's missed you so."
"I've missed everybody as well. It's great to be back." He replied with a grin.
Cordelia smiled as she quickly remembered what she was there for. "Oh, Chrom. We're still required to escort you wherever you go. I didn't think everybody would have found out you left this quickly. Sorry for this inconvenience."
"Don't be. We were in need of an extra pegasus since our friend over here decided to appear out of nowhere." Chrom said with a laugh.
"My bad, I should've told you in advance." Robin said as he looked at Chrom with a witty grin.
Chrom weakly shoved his friend as he chuckled. "Never change." He said. He then looked at Lissa with a smile as she looked at their direction. "Hey Lissa, mind letting Lucina borrow your Pegasus?"
"Uh, sure." Lissa replied with uncertainty. She then realized what Chrom was trying to do. "Oh! Lucina, go and ride with Robin! I'm sure your skills are much better ever since you started training with Sumia." She said happily.
"That sounds like a great idea! Mother's skills on a Pegasus are pretty cool, not gonna lie." Morgan praised.
Lucina looked flustered as she smiled. "They're greatly exaggerating. I only know the basics." She said to the tactician.
"I'm curious to see your skills regardless, if it's okay with you of course." Robin said to her.
Lucina looked at the man happily. "Of course it is." She replied.
"Alright then, let's all get going. We've got a bit if a trip ahead of us." Chrom said to the group. "Lissa. You're fine riding with Cordelia, right?"
"Yeah, no biggie." She replied. She walked towards the redhead's direction just as she whispered something to Lucina. "I better get the wedding invitation soon."
Lucina looked at her aunt with a grin. "When that happens, I'll be sure to make sure you're the first one to receive it." She replied back.
"Heh, guess you really did get used to Morgan's teasing." Lissa laughed as she walked away.
Robin walked over to Lucina as she continued to hold a smile. "Lemme guess, something about marriage?"
"Lissa isn't as creative with her teasing as Morgan is, to be honest." Lucina said with a laugh.
"Hey, I heard that!" Lissa playfully pouted.
"Ha! And you guys call me the child." Morgan said to the group.
"Let's just get going already." Cordelia said with a sigh.
Lucina and Robin walked up to the Pegasus as the princess calmly groomed it. The majestic creature neighed calmly as she pet it. "Let's do our best, alright?" She said to it. She looked beside her as Robin stared at her with an amused look. "I guess Sumia's positive skills with Pegasi runs in the family."
Lucina chuckled. "It seems so, doesn't it?" She said. She got on top of the saddle, and held her arm towards the tactician. Robin smiled, and held the woman's hand. She pulled him up to sit behind her. "Prepare yourself. I'm not exactly the best pegasus knight." Lucina said to him.
"No need for that. I trust you, Lucy." Robin said as he reached in and pecked the princess' cheek.
Lucina felt a warm feeling. Not one of embarrassment, but a feeling of love. Romance. She missed it. "I know you can do better than that, dear." Lucina teased.
Robin looked at the princess as she showed him a caring smile. Robin smiled back. "Perhaps, but I know you can do better than me, dear." He teased back.
The two lovers stared at one another's eyes as they exchanged smiles. Lucina held the man's face softly as she reached in for a kiss. Their lips met as Robin softly caressed his fiancée's face. Their bond was one that could not be broken, even in death. An unlikely relationship that was forged by an unknown tactician, and a princess of the future. A love that crossed time itself. The two broke off as they looked at one another's eyes once more. "I-uh. Erm..."
"Mother getting father flustered? Now that's a first." Morgan said as she watched from afar. Lucina turned around and noticed everybody including Cordelia's squad of pegasus knights were all staring at them. She grew flustered as well. "F-forgive me. I didn't mean to-"
"Sorry, we should be more considerate." Cordelia laughed. "Let's get a move on though, shall we? We have a decent trip to make after all." She said as she began to fly into the sky alongside her squad. Sumia and Cynthia followed behind. "Hey, let's get going!" Morgan called out to them.
"Right." Lucina said with an embarrassed sigh. Robin tapped her shoulder as he whispered to her. "Reminds me of old times, no? Getting so embarrassed easily."
"We couldn't even speak with one another without blushing." Lucina recalled. "It's hard to believe we became a couple almost two years ago."
"Yeah. This time though, I won't leave you. Never again." Robin said with a reassuring look.
"I won't leave your side either." Lucina smiled. She commanded the pegasus to follow the group as it easily obeyed. They rose to the sky softly and swiftly. Lucina spoke once more. "A life in Ylisstol… How does that sound?"
"I'm not all that fond of castles, really. You told me you didn't really like it either, right?" Robin asked.
"I prefer a simpler life. Maybe a small house in a small town?" She suggested.
"It sounds like you're asking me to move out with you." Robin chuckled.
"Perhaps I am." Lucina said as she showed a weak blush.
Robin grew red as he showed the princess a bright smile. "Whether it be an expensive castle or a small lodge, it doesn't matter as long as I spend my life with you…"
A/N: Well, that's that! Super glad I got this up for 4/20 AKA Lucina's birthday. Was trying to get this thing finished for the past week and happened to finish it just now.
Been a rough four years, but I'm glad I'm finally done. Was originally just gonna end it off once Robin says his first words, but that would've been a crazy letdown so I added some more dialogue to make the story end properly. Still. there's one thing that needs to he answered, and it involves a small tactician and her past. She already regained her memories in the present and Naga did say to check up with her once she remembered. Yup, I've got a new fic planned. I'll post chapter one of that up soon.
Still though. Kinda crazy that it's really over. Just want to say thanks to all those that followed and favorited. I'm hoping you enjoyed this for the most part. Sorry for certain chapters that kinda had no real reason to really be here. Reading through some of this myself, there's lots of chapters that felt either out of place, or didn't need a reason to really exist. Odds are, if you were bored and the chapter led to nothing in the end, then it's a chapter that I probably regret writing lol.
As for my new fic, I might upload a small little teaser for it here. I don't really know, so just keep an eye out. I've learned lots of things after writing this and I want to put everything I've learned to the test with this next fic. Just gonna say that it won't be as long as this one was, and it's gonna have a story from the get go. An actual fanfic rather than a retelling, so hopefully you're ready for that!
For now, I'll just take a small little break to finally let my conscious rest for a bit. Follow me on that Twitter if you're interested in my complaints about fighting games or want to see my new drawing hobby I picked up. Delvy_17. I guess that's that. I'll see you all again eventually. Until then though, have a good one!
