53 - Solitude
In and out. In. Out.
She forced the air through her lungs, deep breaths that filled her being. Ignoring the salty taste of the wind, the rushing howls that sounded like waves. Focusing on calming her racing pulse.
She was out of shape. Only 500 laps around the barren planet she called her home and she needed a break. She was getting slow too. All that training on the Moon had just been a distraction, letting her play soldier and teammate. It had done nothing to help the loneliness of her post.
It had done nothing to help her forget those eyes.
A growl escaped her, a hand raking through blonde strands. Weeks had gone by, months even, since she'd seen her, since she had heard her voice. But still she couldn't escape the memory of her.
She could still hear the sound of her footsteps echoing through the halls of Serenity's court.
She could still feel her hand in hers as they danced that night.
She could still see the sadness in those ocean eyes as they parted.
Her shoulders sank as a shuddering sigh ran through her. Her hand combed through her hair once more, fingers tugging lightly on the strands at the back of her neck. Green eyes flicked up to the night sky, immediately finding that familiar blue orb that tormented her dreams.
Was she lonely? Was she still surrounded by that sadness as deep as the sea? Or was she smiling that secret smile that made her eyes sparkle like the stars?
Did she feel the wind in her hair and think of her?
A sudden gale ripped across the land, howling fiercely as Uranus took off running again. Faster, farther, away from her thoughts and feelings. Away from the pain of her solitude.
Away from the siren of the far off planet.
