I do not own anything but the deamons in my mind. Certainly nothing as awesome as Inuyasha.

What happens when you combine Writer's Block, Mudslides, and Halestorm? Let's find out.

Sesshomaru didn't know what to say. His mate was only 90? It wasn't unheard of for one to take a mate before 100, but it was generally frowned on. If he'd known her age he'd have waited to take her.

"I was quite angry with you both when she told me about her pregnancy. It is perhaps fortunate I was on the other side of the planet. But you're good for her and I am glad that she met you, even if I think the two of you moved way to fast."

She stood and placed the photo album on a shelf with several others then went to join her husband. Sesshomaru wasn't ready to go to bed, if the door was even unlocked yet. There had been a few nights he'd had to choose between doing without sleep or finding other accommodations, either the couch or camping on the other side of the well. He decided to look through more photo albums to pass the time.

He chose one at random and sat back down on the couch. She was older in these pictures. She looked about 13, so that would put her somewhere in her teens to twenties. Both she and her father wore hats low over their brows in a city where they seemed to be sight seeing. Then, suddenly, the pictures stopped. Aislynn for some reason had never finished filling this album.

He placed it back on the shelf and selected the one next to it. This one had few pictures of Carolina. And they were different than before. There was no Alaric, and Carolina no longer smiled. Her eyes disturbed him. They were not cool and detached yet, they looked frightened and haunted. As though she'd seen something no child should have to see.

He put the album up and went to see if the door was unlocked yet, he had a need to see his mate. He found her slouching against the head of the bed at an awkward angle that looked painful to him. She was hacking, he knew by the laptop she was using, this one she'd built herself so it was unregistered. He knew nothing about hacking, but she'd shown him how to use google and youtube. There were to many cats on the internet for his liking however he'd discovered many heavy metal bands he quite liked.

He stood in the doorway watching her work. She was only 90? He knew she was young, but 90? She didn't act so young, didn't look so young. His eyes were drawn to her midsection, to the rounded belly where their child grew, drawing nourishment form her own still growing body.

He then realized she'd noticed him watching her. She'd taken out her earbuds and looked over at him, still standing in the doorway. He stepped in and pulled the door shut. "I was talking to your mother. Why didn't you tell me you're 90?"

"It never came up. Does it really matter?"

"I would have insisted on waiting to take you."

"We wouldn't have this little one on the way then." She replied rubbing her abdomen. She was right of course. He wouldn't change things for the world now. He loved the child he'd never even met. They didn't know what it would be, they even declined to learn the sex, but he loved it regardless.

"Sesshomaru, quit worrying so much. I'm hardly the first mare to foal before 100. I doubt this foal will make much difference on my growth, if that's what you're thinking. I am small, period. Fate decided that before this foal ever came into being. Now come over here, I want my favorite pillow." She sat up and patted the bed. He settled himself behind her so she was leaning back against his chest, his legs stretched out on either side of her.

He wrapped his arm around her waist and glanced over her shoulder. She'd hacked the school and pulled up Kagome's records.

"Do you intend to change her grades?" He asked, disapproval in his voice.

"No, she doesn't need it. She'll never be valedictorian, but she's passing." She thought for a moment, "The school hasn't had their required fire drill yet..." She clicked on a few more things then began erasing all signs that she'd been in the system and powered down the laptop, setting it on the night stand.

Carolina gasped and moved his hand quickly. "There, can you feel it?" She asked craning her head around to look at him from the corner of her eye.

"No, not yet." He replied, hiding his disappointment. She'd been feeling their child move for a few weeks now, but it did not yet kick strongly enough for him to feel.

"Well, it's hardly the hardest this little one has kicked me." She leaned back more heavily against him, feeling his heartbeat against her back. "I'm a little worried that I won't be the best mother in the world for this baby."

"You are wonderful with Rin. And with your sister."

"They are a human and a unicorn hanyou. I know what to expect with them, for the most part. This child is half unicorn and half inu youkai. I have no idea what to expect. Say when my milk isn't enough any longer. You need meat to be healthy, meat makes my kind violently ill. How will I know what to feed him?

Or what if this little one uses poison attacks? I know nothing of poison attacks, I purify poison. Will it have healing abilities? Energy attacks? How can I train it if anything..." She didn't finish that thought. He could smell her tears, her fear for him. And he couldn't promise he wouldn't lose his life in the battle against Naraku. All he could do was hold her.

Soon she scooted down the bed so she could lay flat to sleep. He folded his legs and invited her to sleep in his lap, as she seemed to prefer. He placed one of the pillows behind his back so he had a little cushioning, though it was a luxury he didn't need. She lay on her back looking up a him for a minute.

"You sleep better sitting up, don't you?"

"I suppose I do." He'd never thought much about it.

"We both do. When you sleep on your back you snore." She giggled at the skeptical look on his face then turned over on her side to sleep as he turned off the bedside lamp and ran his claws through her thick hair.

A short while later he awoke to the smell of tears. His mate still slept in his lap, but her face was contorted in misery and the sheet was balled in her fists. "Daddy... Daddy no..." she moaned.

"Carolina, I am here. I will protect you." He whispered, stroking her cheek. It didn't help, if anything she became more distressed and began to thrash her head back and forth while tears slipped down her face. Then with a scream she sat up and jumped out of the bed. For an instant he saw that haunted, terrified look mar her lovely face before she hid it in her hands.

He rose from the bed and tried to place his arm around her but in her horror she threw her head back and danced away from him, eyes still closed. "Carolina." She stopped and opened her eyes. She looked devastated and was trembling.

"What troubles you?"

"Just... Just a bad dream." She replied looking away.

"You've had this dream before. Tell me, what is it?" He reached for her.

"I can't." She replied pulling away.

"Why not? I am your mate, there should be no secrets between us. It troubles you, it troubles me. Tell me!" He raised his voice, then realized others were sleeping. He hoped he hadn't woken the children.

"No!" She didn't yell, but her voice sounded fierce.

"Why?"

"I... I just can't." her voice trembled.

"Carolina, you can tell me anything. You are my mate. Tell me."

"I'm the one who got Daddy killed!" She cried collapsing into his arm.
