Chapter 55:

"Come on, Quinnie! Hurry up!" Brittany playfully pouted from her spot near the softball diamonds dugout.

Quinn laughed at her best friend as she went over to the bench and picked up her bag, "I was just making sure everything was away."

The tall blonde smiled as she shrugged, Brittany turned and waved goodbye to some of her teammates that were walking away. "I'll call you tonight?" one of the players yelled out to her.

Brittany beamed and nodded, "Yes, we have to talk about our favorite Disney characters… I'll give you a hint, she wears a blue dress," the tall blonde winked.

Quinn joined her best friend and laughed, "That is a total give away… It's just like me saying mine wears a yellow dress."

The tall blonde squealed, "Your favorite is Belle?!"

"See… Easy," the softball captain chuckled. Brittany giggled and shrugged then waved goodbye to the dark haired blonde who waved back and walked off with her other friends.

Quinn looked at the exchanged between her best friend and the dark haired blonde, smiled and then turned to Brittany, the softball captain not wanting to broach that subject yet. "So Cinderella, hey?" Quinn asked.

"How did you know?" Brittany giggled out.

The blonde laughed, "So you have a thing for blondes?"

Brittany shyly shrugged, "You know I like brunettes, Q… Well one certain one… But I don't really have a favorite… It's their personality."

Quinn smiled and nodded as they continued to walk over to the athletic field, "Well I have a preference," the softball player stated seriously.

The tall blonde turned and lightly pushed her best friend in the shoulder then giggled, "I wonder if Rachel has a preference?"

Quinn shrugged and then looked at the athletic track, spotting her girlfriend running, "Why don't you ask her?" the blonde stated as she pointed over to her girlfriend running next to Kurt.

Brittany turned and giggled as she saw the two diva's running, "When did Rachel start running?"

Kurt looked like he was going to faint.

The softball player smiled, "She's always ran on and off… But she's starting to do it more frequently seeing as she misses her elliptical machine… I think I should buy one for her for my house…" Quinn trailed off.

The best friend's then walked up to Rachel and Kurt who were now on the grass stretching. "Never again, Rachel!" Kurt whined as he hunched over trying to get his breathing under control.

Rachel giggled as she sat on the ground and stretched out her legs, "Oh, come on Kurt. You need to work out so you can get a hot boyfriend, and then Lucy and I can double date with you."

"No! I won't put myself through this pain again. Sweating like this won't help my complexion in anyway… And don't get me started with the smell," Kurt said as he gagged. "From now on I will only be doing Pilates at home in my room, alone!" the boy stated seriously.

Both Quinn and Brittany laughed as they overheard the two divas. Rachel and Kurt turned and looked at the two blondes. "Hey, baby!" Rachel beamed as she jumped up and welcomed her girlfriend with a kiss to the cheek.

The boy grunted out a hello to the two and then started to walk off, "I'm sorry but I need a shower immediately."

Rachel just giggled at the boy and then moved to side hug her girlfriend, resting her head on the blondes shoulder, "How was practice?" the brunette asked the two blondes.

"It was good. Britt, Lauren and I worked on our double plays," Quinn expressed. Brittany giggle and nodded, "Lauren had to fall on the ground when Quinn jumped on second base and the threw the ball to me."

Quinn shrugged, "She was in my way."

Rachel just smiled and nodded at the two blondes interacting, finally happy to understand what a double play is. Brittany turned her head from the couple as she spotted a certain Latina, a sad smile formed on her face. Quinn and Rachel turned to where the tall blonde was looking, understanding immediately why Brittany's facial expressions changed. Brittany turned back to the couple, "Ummm… I'm going to go talk to San."

Both Quinn and Rachel tried to hold their surprised emotions at bay… Santana and Brittany hadn't spoken since everything happened over the summer break… Yeah, they've had to interact during Cheerio practice but that's just because it was required. Brittany walked off while Quinn and Rachel just watched.

"San?" Brittany whispered out when she got closer to the Latina.

Santana turned to Brittany, surprised that the tall blonde was talking to her. "You okay, Britt?" Santana wondered, the first thing that went through the Latina's mind was something was wrong with the tall blonde and though they haven't spoken for months she still loved and cared for Brittany and wanted to make sure she was okay.

Brittany sadly smiled as she stopped in front of the Latina, playing with the hem of her t-shirt to try and calm down, the tall blonde was a bit nervous, "Yeah… I… I was just wondering if maybe we could go get a hot chocolate?"

The Latina scrunched up her face confused, "Oh… Ummm Coach is making me run some laps… And I… Can we reschedule? I just…" Santana stuttered out.

The tall blonde nodded, "I get it… You're not ready… When you are, can you come find me?"

Santana sadly smiled, but nodded, "Yeah."

Brittany nodded, "Okay… Well I better go." The tall blonde turned to leave as she started to take a couple steps Santana called out, "B?!"

The tall blonde turned around, Santana didn't say anything, she couldn't voice what she was feeling out loud, but Brittany knew what she was trying to say in that look alone, "I miss you too, San," Brittany expressed as she turned and walked off to the female sports locker room.

Santana watched her go and then turned to the athletic track and started to run.

Quinn and Rachel watched the two, each having no idea what just happened, the couple turned to look at the other, both of them staring at each other. "You're in the same predicament, right?" Rachel wondered.

The blonde nodded, "I have no idea what just happened."

Rachel just nodded as she scrunched up her face confused, "Did Brittany tell you she was going to initiate a conversation with Santana?"

Quinn shook her head, "The last thing we spoke about was hair color preferences when it came to people we would date."

The brunette's eyebrows rose as a smirk formed on her lips, "And what was your answer?"

The blonde chuckled and leaned down to place a kiss on her girlfriends cheek, "Wouldn't you like to know," Quinn expressed and then turned to walk off.

Rachel giggled as she ran up to her girlfriend and embraced their hands together as they walked off to the locker room, "It better be brunette."

The softball captain looked at her girlfriend and chuckled "Would suck if it wasn't," the blonde stated with a wink.

"Is this the appropriate time to disclose that I actually prefer brunette's instead of blondes?" Rachel voiced trying to hold back her smile forming on her lips.

"If that was the case than Hayley would be your first preference to date than me," Quinn said with a chuckle, the two then walking through the red locker room doors.

"You got me," Rachel teased.

As they got to the blonde's locker Quinn looked around the locker room and spotted no one inside, Quinn turned to her girlfriend and smirked, leaning down and smacking their lips together, Rachel moaning out in surprise and pleasure. The blonde pushed her girlfriend against the locker as Rachel wrapped her arms around the softball player's neck.

Rachel moved her lips away from her girlfriend and gasped for air, looking into her girlfriend's hazel eyes, seeing that the pupils were wider than usually. "Is this another fantasy I have to put on the list?"

Quinn smirked and shrugged, "I wouldn't object," the blonde stated as she leaned back down and smacked their lips together, the blonde pushing her tongue straight into her girlfriends mouth, the brunette not protesting to it in anyway.

The couple was interrupted by a "Get a fucking room," from a certain blonde. Quinn and Rachel turned around and spotted Allison walking past them to her locker. The brunette glared at the blonde, while Quinn rolled her eyes and turned her head to Allison, "You shouldn't have that locker anymore," the softball captain hissed.

"No one's told me I couldn't," Allison angrily voiced.

"Well I am," Quinn said as she released her hold from her girlfriend and turned her whole body to Allison.

"This is something you actually have no control over… So are you going to turn me in? I'm sure Sarah will have your back… Seeing as I'm sure she'd love to fuck you," Allison spat out.

Rachel walked in front of her girlfriend, "You need to leave now!"

Allison rolled her eyes and chuckled, "You're really going to protect your girlfriend?! Did she tell you what happened between us two weeks ago against the same locker you were up against? The only difference was that I had her up against it," Allison voiced as she raised her eyebrows up and down with a smirk on her lips.

The brunette just rolled her eyes as she stepped closer to the blonde, "The lack of self respect you have for yourself is depressive. You'd throw yourself on anyone and not have one little ounce of self-dignity. You don't care about the other person involved, all you truly care about is wrapping your legs around them and getting off!" Rachel yelled. Quinn just stood back with her eyes wide. Allison was just glaring at the brunette. "You should be disgusted with yourself. You're not just destroying your own life but you're also choosing to lie and make up rumors to destroy the lives of people who are in a committed relationship. Grow up and be more mature, because there is no way I'm going to let you walk over the relationship I have with my girlfriend!" the brunette said forcefully.

Allison just rolled her eyes as she turned to her locker, opening it up and grabbing her things, slamming the door shut and then walking out of the locker room, not acknowledging Rachel or Quinn as she left.

Rachel then turned back around to her girlfriend, the brunette not saying anything. Quinn moved forward and smiled, "That was really hot! We are definitely putting the sports locker room on the fantasy list."

The brunette giggled as she wrapped her arms around her girlfriend's waist.

Santana walked down the steps in the auditorium and then up the steps to the stage, she would lie if someone asked her if she missed being in Glee. The Latina walked over to the piano and ran her fingers over the keys. Santana sat down and then started to play, maybe she couldn't voice what she was going through in sentences… But maybe lyrics were all she needed now.

I used to think one day we'd tell the story of us,
How we met and the sparks flew instantly,
People would say, "They're the lucky ones."
I used to know my place was a spot next to you,
Now I'm searching the room for an empty seat,
'Cause lately I don't even know what page you're on.

Oh, a simple complication,
Miscommunications lead to fall-out.
So many things that I wish you knew,
So many walls that I can't break through.

Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking,
And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah?
I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down,
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now...

Flashback:

Rachel and Brittany walked through the halls of McKinley, the tall blonde turned to one of her best friends, "So what do you want me to do?"

"Just sit and watch me perform, I need some advice… I need this to be phenomenal," Rachel stated.

The tall blonde scrunched up her face, "Why don't you ask, Quinn? Isn't this a girlfriend thing?"

The brunette smiled, "Yes… Well she does, but I can't have Lucy critique a performance I'm planning to sing to her next week."

"Is this something on your list of things for your one year anniversary?" Brittany voiced, as they turned down the hallway, they were almost to one of the auditorium doors.

"Yes, and I need this song to be perfect, it means a lot to both of us… If we actually had a couples song, this would be it," Rachel smiled seriously.

Brittany smiled as she wrapped her arm around the brunette's shoulders, giving Rachel a little squeeze, "You and Quinnie are so cute."

The brunette smiled as she reached for the door and opened it up, "Have you seen Tina and Mike together? Don't you think they're adorable?"

The two best friends walked inside the auditorium. "Tina told me Mike asked her to come over to have dinner with his family," Brittany smiled.

"Well their relationship sounds like it's progressing nicely," Rachel expressed with a smile on her face.

Brittany nodded in agreement and then the two best friends stopped when they heard someone singing from the stage below. Brown and blue eyes traveled down to the stage and they both spotted Santana at the piano singing. The two stood and watched the Latina; after the chorus Brittany couldn't take it anymore and turned to leave.

"Brittany?" Rachel whispered out worried.

The tall blonde quickly turned to her best friend and shook her head, "I just need to be alone," Brittany expressed as she turned and walked out of the auditorium, Rachel watching her leave. The brunette not knowing if she should go after her or not, but Rachel had a feeling that Brittany wasn't the only one that needed someone right now so she turned back to the Latina and watched her sing.

Brittany walked through the empty halls of McKinley, not many people hang around on a Friday afternoon; tears started to fill the blondes eyes as the song continued to play in her head. The tall blonde started to run, wanting to get as far away from the auditorium as she could. Brittany ended up on the bleachers for the softball field, the song continuing to bombard her conscious, "Next chapter," the blonde whispered out and started to sing the next part of the song.

How'd we end up this way?
See me nervously pulling at my clothes and trying to look busy,
And you're doing your best to avoid me.
I'm starting to think one day I'll tell the story of us,
How I was losing my mind when I saw you here,
But you held your pride like you should've held me.

Oh, I'm scared to see the ending,
Why are we pretending this is nothing?
I'd tell you I miss you but I don't know how,
I've never heard silence quite this loud.

Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking,
And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah?
I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down,
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now.

Rachel continued to watch Santana as the Latina's eyes filled with tears as she continued to sing. The brunette grabbed out her phone to text her girlfriend. Baby, if you're still at school could you please go find Brittany, she needs someone right now, and I'm with Santana. R* Rachel pressed send and placed her iPhone back in her bag, slowly walking down the auditorium steps as she watched Santana sing.

Tears continued to flow down Brittany's face as she looked out on the diamond and continued to sing.

This is looking like a contest,
Of who can act like they care less,
But I liked it better when you were on my side.
The battle's in your hands now,
But I would lay my armor down
If you said you'd rather love than fight.
So many things that you wished I knew,
But the story of us might be ending soon.

Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking,
And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah?
I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down,
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now, now, now.
And we're not speaking,
And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah?
I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate 'cause we're going down,
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now

"The end," Santana whispered out. Rachel walked up the stairs of the stage and sadly smiled at the Latina. "I'm not going to ask if you're okay because that song you just sung already has given me the answer," Rachel whispered out. Santana lightly nodded. "And I know you don't like to talk about your emotions and you hold everything in and the only people who you let in is Lucy and Hayley… So I know I'm not them but as one of your friends, and as the second person you confessed your feelings for Brittany to, I think it's critical for me to at least tell you one thing," the brunette expressed. Santana slowly nodded to show Rachel she understood. "You need to rejoin Glee… Because that performance… That was the first time since everything happened between you and Brittany that I saw the real you… You've been walking through these hallways looking like the person I knew before Lucy came… And when I'm over at Lucy's and you're there I can see you're just making conversations to avoid actually talking about all things related to Brittany or you just cover your true emotions by using humor," Rachel took a breath, "But just then… In those five minutes… I saw you, Santana… You need Glee." Santana just nodded again. "Are you ready to come back to Glee?"

The Latina took a breath in and out then nodded and whispered out an "I'm ready."

Brittany sadly whispered out "The end," as she wiped away the tears. The tall blonde sniffling to try and calm down the emotions that she just went through. "Are you ready?" a voice was heard from the bottom of the bleachers. Brittany looked up and smiled, a real smile. She stood up and nodded, "I'm ready," she expressed as she walked down and joined the dark haired blonde, the two walking off to the parking lot together.

Quinn stood at the opposite end of the bleachers as she watched one of her best friends walk off with the dark haired blonde, guessing it wasn't her that Brittany needed right now. The softball captain then turned the other way to go find her girlfriend.
