Awakening
*blinks sleepily*
Hi,
*blinks again*
Enjoy
I wrote this during Language and just thought I'd post it here (it's also being put up as a one-shot companion)
E're's Insanity
Curse of a thousand lives,
Forever circling through the night,
Neither dream nor reality,
They are what shapes your life.
Memories shattering your mind,
Dread, horror, for endless time,
Drowning in the pictures
That have been your life.
There was never Balance,
There was never enough Time,
For both before and after,
Fate controls your life.
Losing yourself in color,
Forgetting every name,
You only wish for some peace,
While Fate spins away, all that you have been.
You once had a partner,
One to hold you steady,
But now even he,
Cannot hold back the insanity.
Would've worked better for the last chapter, and well...not my best work but still…*shrugs* anyway, ON WITH THE SHOW!
Mortem's POV
After Aequivalere fell asleep and I sensed her breaking free from the flood of memories I untangled myself from my Bonded and the couch and sighed.
Why must she always attract so much attention?
I glanced over that the other sleeping mortals in the room and scowled. Tony was a mortal I had come to like, and Thor I had always been rather fond of, even if he wasn't the brightest.
The rest of the mortals in the room however...
I would much rather just wipe me and my Bonded from their minds and continue on with my existence in peace.
But sadly, if there was one thing I rarely got, it was peace.
Not that I blamed Aequivalere of course, tis not her fault. It was Fati's.
I scowled as I thought about my wayward younger sister. She had caused so much trouble ever since E're was born, and I knew that I wasn't the only one tired of it.
Moving silently, I walked over to the Soldier who had removed himself from my Lists long ago. My power flaring I flung my aura out, and entangled it in his. Swiftly cutting and cleansing the mortal of Fati's lingering power.
Normally this would be Aequivalere's job, but I knew that she wasn't exactly in the best position to step in.
So I did.
I repeated the process with all of the other mortals in the room, ripping away the remainder of Fati's web from those that E're called friends.
Calling upon my shadow's I reappeared behind another who was wrapped tightly with the weakening web, and broke him free. I might be waiting happily for the one eyed mortal's Time to come, but that didn't mean I would run the risk of displeasing my Bonded.
I shivered at the mere thought.
Angering my Bonded was always dangerous.
I stood on top of Stark's Tower, looking over the battered cities. Reapers floated everywhere, collecting souls and marking down deaths. Even though E're's interference, as well as my own, had saved many a life, Helheim in this world would be crowded for a while yet.
My Duties suddenly twitched, and with a sigh I returned to Helheim. Hopefully Hel hadn't made too much of a mess with my Realm.
Penny's POV
"ANTHONY!"
I bolted up right, wincing as the sudden movement caused my head to pound. I hadn't even gotten through a tenth of the memories, and so they were forced to float around my head, causing my temple to throb and images to flash before my eyes.
I groaned as I sensed Pepper's temper even though I was two floors below her and the others. I didn't know what Dad had done, but it sure the hell better have been worth it.
"I'm gonna kill you." I muttered under my breath as I rolled off the couch.
"I"m going to kill you!" A woman in black snarled.
Holding back a wince as my head throbbed again and I pushed the memory away. I grabbed hold of Pepper's aura and teleported. They better have a good reason for waking me up!
As I reappeared I noticed two things, one was that Pepper was covered in pink, glittery paint, and two, Phil was there.
Tony and Pepper were in the middle of the hallway, and Pepper had obviously just sprung a prank probably meant for someone else.
"Why have you pranked me, Friend Anna, have I angered you?" A redhead with bright green eyes asked as she tilted her head. She was covered, head to toe, in thick blue slime that glittered in the light.
Blinking, I refocused. I didn't see Romanoff or Barton anywhere, though I could sense them nearby. Bruce was standing in the small kitchen doorway, trying not to laugh, while Rogers stood besides Phil, staring at the couple in disbelief.
"No, no...That's not possible!" A hysterical voice exclaimed in denial.
"Would someone kindly explain," I drawled coldly as I narrowed my eyes at the group. "Why you thought it would be a good idea to wake me up?"
"Pen!" Dad exclaimed happily, ignoring my bad attitude and chilled words. "Your awake!"
"So, I see you've Awakened again Little Sister." Fati chuckled darkly as she walked around me.
"Obviously." I snipped and part of me wondered if the memories were causing my bad mood. I didn't know, and at the moment I didn't really care.
"There's no need for such an attitude." Pepper scolded me, and I gave Pepper an annoyed look. Ok, so I woke up on the wrong side of the bed with random memories pounding through my head; sue me.
"Wake up little brother! You'll be late for school!"
I had been mentally up all night sorting through memories, many that weren't pleasant, and my head was throbbing as if it was about it implode. Not to mention random images from the memories I hadn't sorted were flashing through my minds eye at a pace and rhythm I couldn't control!
So yeah, I was allowed to be in a bad mood!
"Fuck you, at least I actually have a heart!" I snarled angrily as pain shot up my spine.
"Well at least I'm not the one yelling across the house." I pointed out as I shoved the gruesome memory away.
Pepper blushed slightly before protesting. "Your father's being childish again! We have too much to do today to worry about what kinds of pranks are waiting behind every door!"
Pepper gave Dad a stern look and I rolled my eyes.
"Excuse me, exactly what it is you think you're doing!?" A cold voice asked from behind me.
"Still doesn't give you the right to scream." I responded swiftly.
A small child screamed in fear as the purple fire surged around us.
I barely suppressed a wince as Dad stepped forward and wrapped me in a hug.
"You ok?" He whispered in my ear, obviously sensing that there was more to this then simply a bad mood.
My father's large orange figure engulfed me in a hug, and I wondered why they were no longer as warm as I remembered.
Sadly, Dad did catch my wince as he pulled away, and he gave me a stern yet hidden look. I knew that we would be discussing this, and many other things, later.
"Hey Penny," I glanced up at Phil as he walked over and also wrapped me in a hug. "I'm glad you're ok."
I looked over at the young agent trainee who was panting heavily along with his classmates, but he didn't look as angry or as frustrated as his peers.
"I think he has promis." Nick said as he stood besides me.
"Yes," I agreed with a hum as I gazed at the young man. "I believe Agent Coulson will have a bright future here."
I smiled up at the agent, now much older. I, as Jackel, had died not long after Phil officially joined SHIELD. He had always been promising, and had been the golden star of that years trainees. There weren't many things that could cause me to remember that lifetime with fondness. But Phil's initiation was one of them.
I wondered vaguely if Phil even remembered the previous director, I already knew Nick did. BUt then, it's Fury. I trained him, taught him everything he knew, and then left SHIELD in his hands.
Of course he remembered me.
Chuckling, I drew myself back to the present. "I'm glad I'm alright too Phil."
He smiled softly at me, patting my shoulder.
"So," I asked slowly as I managed to shove my bad mood slightly out of the way for now. "Any food around here?"
Dad chuckled and pushed me towards the kitchen. "We've only been up for an hour… and there had been breakfast that'd been delivered...but well, Point Break and Capsicle can eat twice their weight in food."
I rolled my eyes, remembering how much food an Asgardian normally consumed. Of course Thor and Cap ate all of the breakfast.
"Well then," I said as Dad let go of my shoulders and I walked over to the many cabnits."It looks like I'll be cooking then. Requests?"
Phil chuckled and sat down at the small kitchen island. "Your cinnamon waffles."
"I already ate," Bruce said speaking up for the first time that morning. "and I'm no chef...but I can make tea and coffee."
I smiled at the doctor as he tried to be helpful and waved him forward. "I have a feeling that after tomorrow, everyone will be more than happy with an exessive ammount of tea and coffee."
"And your waffles!" Phil jumped in again, a teasing glint in his eyes. "They're like fluffy bits of heaven."
"Man, dude...where did you learn how to cook!?" My best friend asked as he stuffed his face with the breakfast I had created.
I chuckled, thinking about the Dursleys all of those years ago. "Oh, it's just something I've picked up over time. Incase you haven't noticed, no one in this house can cook but Mom, and all she can bake is cookies."
"True, at least with your food we don't have to worry about it coming to life and eating us." My other best friend chuckled as she dug into the vegan part of the breakfast.
"True," I admitted with a chuckle, trying not to think about how similar my two friends were with my old best friends. "Very true."
"Penny,"
I blinked away the memory and noticed that everyone was looking at me in concern. The Cap was standing in the kitchen doorway, his eyebrows wrinkled just the right amount to show is hidden worry.
Dad and Bruce stood right in front of me, and with another blink I noticed that Dad had been snapping. Phil and Pepper were standing behind them, also looking worried. I could feel Romanoff's presence in the hallway, and Bartons...Barton was hiding out in an air vent across the kitchen.
Huh, all we needed was Thor and the gang would be all here.
"I'm alright," I said and turned back to the cabinets, getting everything we would need for another breakfast. I didn't know if anyone besides myself and Phil were hungry, but knowing, some, of the Avengers, they would never turn down free food.
No one believed me, but thankfully no one pushed the subject. I cursed the fact that I still had the majority of my memories to sort through. I would be an emotional and mental mess until I did!
"Where did Mortem vanish to?" Dad asked as I pulled eggs out of the fridge.
I tried not to freeze as another memory flashed before my eyes.
"...I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS! IMMORTAL?! WHY THE HELL WOULD I WANT TO BE IMMORTAL! I NEVER ASKED FOR THE HALLOWS, I NEVER ASKED TO BE CHOSEN. I WAS JUST HARRY, THAT'S ALL I EVER WANTED! SO WHY THE HELL DID YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE ME!?"
I winced as I recalled the tongue lashing I had given Mortem the first time I had met him. It hadn't been his fault of course, but it had taken me a few lifetimes to let go of my anger and figure that out.
"Oh," I said softly as if nothing had happened. "I'm pretty sure he's in his Realm… even though we saved a lot of Souls yesterday, Loki's little Puppetmaster still caused a lot of overtime for him and Hel."
"Ah," Bruce said softly as Dad nodded. Captain looked slightly uncomfortable, and Bruce slightly uneasy. They were the only two in the room not used to (or at least accustomed to) Mortem's presence.
Turning back towards the food I sighed.
Well, the day could've started out worse
