Scarlet, Jade, and Amber

I stand at a precipice,

The world at my feet,

And gaze upon infinite possibility:

A panorama of fresh-laden snow.

It's untouched by my hand, breath, or pen,

Beware, white world of mine,

For that shall change in time.

...

I drift in a fog,

A haze, if you will,

Indifferent and unaffected

By my bleak world of bland.

"Nothing's new under the sun,"

And too right, I would be,

If, through her curtain of rust,

She had not peeked at me,

With her eyes of jaded verdigris.

...

I took a chance, I took a step,

And leapt from my lofty height, and now –

Tumbling, tumbling down I go

Into a cosmos of fairy tales,

With monsters and heroes galore,

But none are properly labeled, you see.

So, I need a faithful and trusted companion

To be my true and noble guide.

Would you please, be he?

...

Her faint life-light pierces

My dreary, drizzling domain,

And like a man born blind

With his first glimpse of sunshine,

I howl in agony and hide.

But soon I draw near

As if a moth to its doom,

For captivated am I

By her innocent perfume.

'Tis something so rare

That by my oath, I swear

It shall not be defiled.

...

All is light, warm, and gold,

As our friendship blooms –

But of course,

Shadows must creep,

And sorrows seep

Into our Canvas Idyll.

I teeter on the edge.

The Cliffs of Madness loom.

Do you not see?

I need not a chivalrous Prince of Charm,

Or a Joe of Norm,

But a steadfast and faithful you!

For, I am pushed by circumstance,

And propelled by a foe I do not know

Into the abyss below

Where my hope of amber dims.

...

What was muted before

Is now a vibrant spectrum,

Effervescent and pulsating.

Green glows emerald

And blue blazes bold,

Dancing across my senses

As her laughter caresses

And her ire awakens

Feelings lost, long ago.

.

Yet, is happiness to be mine?

No, for reality invades,

And scarlet cascades.

A river of her crimson flows.

...

'Tis the end of the line,

And all that could have been mine

Is taken in brutal fashion.

Scarlet purloins

The light of my jade

As I agonizingly fade

Into the Void.

.

Yet, out of the gloom,

My iridescent knight,

My love and my life,

Exchanges my fate

For that of ever-changing

Onyx and Amber.
