OMELETS!
"Harry?"
"Yes?"
"Have you even started reading this?"
"Read what, Mine?"
"This book."
"It's a book."
"I just said that."
"..."
"That isn't an answer."
"Mine, me and books don't get along. Remember? Peter, Sirius, James and I get sick if we read too much. It's an illness we can't seem to get rid of."
"Yes, but it's a book that only you can read."
"Why? I'm sure if you spent enough time looking at it you can read it to."
"Harry, look at it."
Having a grin on his face, Harry looked over at Hermione as he lowered the map to his lap. He was waiting for the prefects to leave the seventh floor and for curfew to start in the next half-hour. The moment he saw the book his sister was showing him, he flushed.
It was the Parseltongue book they had found in the shop a long while ago. "Umm... no, I haven't. I kinda... forgot about it."
"What? You wanted it!"
Laughing, Harry shook his head, "No, you wanted me to have it. I was just trying to see what the title was. After that, I was content to leave it there."
"But... but you don't know what could be in there! Knowledge, Harry! You don't know what you could possibly learn from it!"
"Umm... things that would make my head hurt?"
Hermione rolled her eyes and threw it on his bed. "Don't forget about it this time."
The door opened a crack and two heads popped in, one red and the other dark brown. Once they were apparently appeased with who was in there, Lily and Karen walked in and closed the door quickly.
They went over to the bed while Harry discreetly moved the book under his pillow so they wouldn't see it. When they got close, they both plopped on the bed, Karen dragging Hermione with them so all four were sitting comfortably.
"We have a question for you," Karen said, straight to the point.
Lily nodded, her eyes hard. "How's James?"
Harry blinked in confusion. "You spend a lot of time with him too, Lily. With and without us."
"Yes, but I'm his girlfriend. He doesn't want to... I don't know, appear weak or something."
Harry sighed, "He's denying that she's gone, I think."
Hermione nodded, "He doesn't want to come to terms with it. He's bottling everything in. When he finally accepts she's gone, it's not going to be easy for him."
Karen flopped onto her back and stared at the ceiling. They all just stayed silent for a few moments before Karen promptly said, "I've decided that I'm going to be part of your next prank."
Hermione leaped to her feet and slammed her hands over her ears, "I'm not listening, I'm not listening."
"How do you even know it's us? No one knows who the pranksters are."
Karen raised an eyebrow as she propped herself up on her elbow, "Please. You have the map - yes, we've seen it; you talk about the pranks that's happened - yes, we've eavesdropped; you lot were talking about leaving tonight to do something amazing - yes, we heard that conversation; and the way that Hermione just reacted gave it away - yes, we're not deaf either. Such a shocker."
The door was slammed open as the other four boys raced in, "Bolt! It's time! Let's - What's Lily Flower and Dorothy doing in our room? Harry! You aren't!"
"Well, no, his sister is in here."
"But she could be -"
"Don't even finish that sentence, Snuffles."
"But... but why else would she be in here while -"
"Sirius."
"Yes, Lily Flower?"
"Remember when you talked about digging yourself into holes?"
"Yes?'
"You're digging yourself into one right now."
"What? I was just asking why Harry was being surrounded by girls. I mean, come on!"
"Sirius."
"Yes, Darla?"
"I'm dating Peter."
"Ok?"
"Lily's dating James."
"Ok?"
"Are you seriously implying that we would cheat on our boyfriends?"
"No? But I am Sirius."
"You're an idiot."
"Oh, whatever prank you're pulling, I'm in on it."
"Harry! Why did you tell her we were the ones pulling the pranks?!"
"He didn't."
"We aren't idiots, you know."
"Of course not. I'm surprised you haven't mentioned it earlier."
"We've had no need. Karen just wants to be involved now."
Hermione ran over to Remus and grabbed his hands to press them against her ears as well. "I can't hear them. You guys aren't breaking rules. You aren't going out past curfew, you aren't. You aren't. You're... you're going downstairs to talk by the fire and I'm going to my room to study. Yeah, that sounds right. James?"
James grinned and looked over at her. "Yes, Mine?"
"You do remember that charm that makes something stick after it's moved, right?"
"Of course."
"Don't forget to practice it. And teach the others. I don't think Karen knows it."
His grin widened, "Only because you asked."
"What the?"
"No! Where are you going?"
"Wait! Come back!"
"Whhhhhy?
"Stop. Stop it, I say!"
"The Duppilingers are behind this. Don't worry."
"What are -"
"Why are they moving?"
Hermione giggled as she finished filling her plate and moments after she put the hash browns on the plate the dish grew legs, got up and walked across to someone else. She drummed her fingers on the wood on the table and waited for another dish to make it's way to her.
"I want my food back!"
"Give it!"
"Switch me!"
The boy who had her plate - she thought his name was Daniel - tried to hand Hermione's plate back to her, but the moment she touched it, the plate leaped out of her hands and raced back to Daniel.
Sighing, Daniel looked at the plate and muttered, "At least you picked good food."
Hermione beamed at him and didn't mention that she put a little bit of everything on it. Seconds later, a plate moved over to her and settled down. She tilted her head and picked up the fork that bounced it's way over and promptly landed in her hand. She poked at the thing and asked, "Sausage?"
Karen leaned across the table and patted Hermione's hand, "I ended up with scrambled eggs."
Peter chuckled as he ate the French Toast and washed it down with Pumpkin Juice. "There's toast and there's other food on the table."
"Really, Peter, I had no idea," Karen stuck her tongue out at him while Peter just smirked.
"Waffles? I got stuck... with waffles?"
"Lily Flower -"
"Stop calling me that."
"Not happening."
"Don't bite, Lily. He'll just go on."
"Oi! Thumper!"
"It's true!"
Hermione giggled again as Harry poked her in the side. She looked over as Harry tried to get the attention of the others. When they weren't paying attention, he threw his fork to the middle of their group.
The fork just jumped up and hurried back to him. Everyone's eyes followed the movement to Harry who grinned and mouthed, 'Minnie'.
Sirius and James stared blatantly, Remus glanced, Peter looked under his lashes, Lily ignored the comment and Karen glanced over before smiling at the professor before looking back down.
Hermione shot a quick look over and nearly cracked up at the glare the elder professor was sending them. As one, James and Sirius rose their hands and shouted, "We didn't do it! Why do you keep blaming us?"
Everyone within the Great Hall burst into gales of laughter. The two just grinned and went about devouring their breakfasts with Sirius' shout of, "OMELETS!"
Someone mumbled, "I hope you enjoy my food. I got stuck with toast. Toast!"
