I walked back to the compound and slammed myself on a chair outside, covering my face with my hands.
"Are we gonna look for him?" Kol asked as he came up to me, to my annoyance
"We are not"
"He needs us. He feels guilty, well he deserved to feel guilty after so long but, that's not important Hayley I just know you will regret-"
"Kol we are not looking for Klaus. I am sure he is perfectly safe and sound, capable of protecting himself. I on the other hand am drowning under everything and I cannot decide what the right thing to do is" I said as I started sobbing
He crouched next to me and held my hand in his
"You know I will be by your side no matter what your choice is, don't you?"
I looked into his eyes, tears still falling
"Thanks for being the brother I never had Kol" I whispered unexpectedly
He smiled and nodded
"Right back at you sweetheart"
I knew that even though he was surrounded by siblings he always felt left out and lonely. I was happy to know I could change that.
"Now, what do we do?" he asked me in a serious tone "Do we go on with the spell tonight?"
"No. No I thought of something we must do before"
"What is that?" he asked as he tilted his head
"We need to contact my ancestors and ask them if I'm on the right path"
"Umm…okay?"
"I am serious. This won't be easy, given that the notable elders have died a long while ago I will need other means of communication, beside their ghostly appearance I mean"
"Why don't you just summon their ghosts?"
"I just said it Kol, they died a long while ago, it takes too much time and effort"
"What is your solution then?"
I pulled my hand out of his and took out a board from my bag
"An Ouija board? You cannot be serious"
"With your magic and my banshee powers it'll be easy. I need to talk to someone and ask for help"
He hesitated before giving in
"Fine, fine. As you wish. But I don't believe this works"
We sat cross legged opposite each other, the board lying on the floor between us, and our hands attached. I looked into his eye one last time before he shut them and began saying the necessary words underneath his breath.
"I need you to call them now, using your voice" he ordered
"Umm, okay, umm, well, dear ancestors of mine, if your spirit has been summoned and you are here, please confirm it"
Nothing
"Kol?"
"I told you it doesn't-"
The wooden piece scratched against the board and moved to the YES
A smile spread across my face as I squeezed Kol's hand in delight
"Who are you?" I asked "Can you spell out your name?"
M-A-T-I-L-D-A
"Matilda…nice to meet you Matilda. Now tell me, if I were to destroy the other side would that be a problem for me as a banshee?"
"That was straightforward" Kol commented
"I don't have time to waste"
The piece moved to YES
"But I need to do this"
The piece started moving quickly. Kol wrote down the letters and held up the paper to me. It was missing some letters but still understandable.
"You were sacrificed for reason. The banshee's job is to set the balance between the living and the dead of the Supernatural World"
"But I can be a banshee and help dead humans"
NO it said
"But that's not fair. The other side is bringing pain and sorrow to my family"
It started moving fastly again. Kol held the paper up
"The Savior will grow and bring back those who are needed from the other side when the time is right. Destroying it won't allow this to happen"
"I don't get it, from what I have read a banshee can re-make the other side once it is destroyed"
NO
"I don't understand why not"
"Elizabeth was sacrificed for a reason. Once it is destroyed the sacrifice will be reversed"
I looked up at Kol who was as shocked as I was
"What do you mean?" I wanted her to elaborate
"She will rise" Matilda replied
"I don't get it. How will the sacrifice be reversed?"
"Do not destroy the other side. You are Hayley. You cannot be Elizabeth"
"What the hell is this woman saying?" Kol finally spoke up
"I don't understand" I replied "You're telling me the only impact of destroying the other side is that the sacrifice will be reversed, which makes no sense"
"Her spirit is there. It shall return" she replied as Kol tried to write each letter
"What is this woman…fuck this" I snapped and stood up, breaking the circle and sending the spirit back. The board shook and flipped over.
Kol also stood up, re-reading everything he had written
"So, what will you do?"
"If I can re-make the other side after it's destruction I don't see why it's a bad idea to destroy it" I snapped "There are far too many evil spirits looming in there anyway"
He nodded
"We have one problem though" I said "during the destruction there will be a split second when the gates will be open and the spirits who are fast enough can pass through to this side" I explained
"That's not good now is it?" he asked as he folded his arms "What if Esther comes?"
"That's why I need you to do a captivity spell to her spirit which won't let her do so"
"You thought about everything it seems"
"I had to" I replied as I started pacing around "This is no joking matter. You will need my blood and I will be in a lot of pain, most probably begging you to stop it"
"What?"
"You cannot stop Kol, no matter what I say do you get it?"
"But Hayley-"
"Promise me you won't stop Kol"
He looked into my eyes and nodded half-heartedly. I pulled him in for a hug as we heard the footsteps of Rebekah, Elijah, Marcel and Katherine, returning from what seemed to be a double date.
"What's going on here? Why are you two hugging so dramatically?" Rebekah asked
"And why is Hayley wreaking of blood?" Katherine added
Damn. I still haven't changed.
"Nothing. Klaus and I had a little unexpected argument. He left the compound to stay elsewhere for a while
"Did you to break up?" Marcel asked as he took a step towards me "Did he do this to you? Did he hurt you?"
"I…well…no…we haven't broken up. This isn't about us. Everything will be fine. Now, if you excuse me, I have to go check on my daughter"
I hurried away from them and disappeared into Hope's room.
She was fast asleep, looking angelic in her crib. A tear fell from my eye as I rubbed my finger on her forehead gently. She was so small, so fragile, yet she had the world's weight on her shoulders. Maybe I was doing the right thing, after all. Maybe by destroying the other side I could get her out of this Banshee mess once and for all?
Kol and I met up at midnight as we had discussed, deep in the forest. My eyes were swollen from crying and he didn't question me about it.
"Did you spell the dagger like I told you to?"
He nodded as he handed it to me
"There will be portal created by my blood and your incantations on the ground. No matter what happens you are not to go inside that portal do you understand?" I asked him
"Yes" he replied
"There will be spirits coming out of it. Do not contact them in any way"
"Clear"
"You are ready to do the binding spell on Esther?"
He nodded and placed his equipment on the ground. He burned two candles and started chanting something under his breath. After a few minutes he gasped and told me it was done.
I smiled, happy that the first step had been accomplished, and lifted the dagger up.
"You're sure love?" Kol asked me one last time
"Don't make me question it" I said and before he could reply pushed the dagger in my wrist.
My blood started to spill in gallons and I felt myself get dizzy. Kol began saying the incantations and I noticed how the candles almost went off.
"Now!" Kol yelled and I dropped on my knees, saying the necessary words in the necessary tone
A light illuminated from the ground as the surrounding was filled with screams and ghostly visions. I felt like my heart was going to pop out and started breathing deeply. I shut my eyes and fought the pain. When I re-opened it I was face to face…with myself.
"What in god's…" I whispered
"My body seems to be doing well" the other me replied
"What?"
"Its being reversed. I'm being brought back"
I realized what Matilda had meant. I realized what was happening.
"No! NO! Kol you have to stop it! STOP IT KOL THIS IS NOT A JOKE STOP IT!"
"I'm sorry Hayley. You made me promise"
"NO KOL THIS IS DIFFERENT! KOL YOU MUST STOP-"
I blacked out and felt my head drop on the ground.
Kol's POV
I carried her unconscious body back to the compound and lay her down on the ground where it was safe. She was pale and starting to frighten me. Suddenly I was surrounded by yelling and footsteps.
"Klaus you cannot leave like this. Let us find a way as a family" Elijah protested as Klaus sped down the steps
"I merely came here to grab some stuff. My mind is already made" he replied
They all came to a sudden halt when they saw me crouching next to an unconscious Hayley.
"what happened!" Klaus yelled as he dropped by her side
"I don't know. It wasn't supposed to be like this" I whispered
"What wasn't?" Klaus asked, anger pouring from his eyes as he lay Hayley on his lap
"We did something so you could be fine" I stated
"What did you do!?" Katherine yelled impatiently
"Speak up Kol, what happened to her!" Marcel ordered to my annoyance
"She destroyed the other side" I whispered
Everyone stared at me in disbelief. What I suggested we did was no ordinary thing.
"She lost a lot of blood doing it…maybe that's why"
"Is this some sort of joke?" Klaus asked as he started shaking in worry
I shook my head
Rebekah covered her mouth with her hand, placing the other on Marcel's shoulder supportively
"That would end her as a banshee" Katherine whispered
"That's what we thought yes" I confirmed
"Why would you let her do this?" Elijah screamed
Before I could reply Hayley's eyes burst open and she bolted upright
She was breathing deeply and looking around at everyone, almost frightened.
"Hayley, love, you're alright" Klaus whispered to her as he pulled her closer to his chest
"What?" she asked as she looked at him as if she saw a stranger
"Everything has passed. I cannot believe the lengths you went to bring peace to me. I will forever-"
"Katherine" she burst out as tears slid from her eyelashes
"Hayley, are you alright?" Katherine asked, her eyebrow raised, and knelt down
"Don't you recognise me?" she asked, whimpering
"I do, Hayley, you're safe. It's all going to be alright"
"Why are you calling me that? Stop calling me that, Katya it's me" she said in between sobs
Katherine gasped and stood back up. We were all just staring, trying to understand
"What have you done?" Katherine asked in shock
"Can someone explain themselves?" Klaus ordered
She pushed herself out of his arms and stood up, immediately walking towards Katherine
"Katya where are we? I don't remember anything. The last thing I remember is presenting myself to Stefan for the sacrifice"
Katherine was unresponsive. Simply staring.
"Katerina I need you to help me, I'm scared who are these people?" she yelled
"Elizabeth?" Katherine asked after a long pause, making everyone gasp
"Yes, it's me. Katerina what's going on?"
Katherine didn't hesitate anymore. She took a step towards Hayley and opened her arms, allowing her to embrace her.
"What have you done?" Klaus asked over and over again, still in shock
They broke apart and she looked at Klaus
"Do I know you?"
This broke something in Klaus. He grabbed Hayley and made her look into his eyes
"What have you done to her? What have you done to my Hayley?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about" she yelled and sent him off. Her voice still worked, apparently
"Liz, you died" Katherine whispered
"No, no I'm alive and kicking can't you see?"
"Elizabeth the sacrifice was successful. You died 200 years ago and got resurrected as Hayley Marshall"
She covered her head with her hands, trying to absorb all the new information
"You're not only a banshee but also a Hybrid between a werewolf and a vampire now"
"A hybrid?" she said, still in the same pose "Isn't that what your greatest enemy was? The man you feared for centuries? The reason why you always lived on the move? Am I a monster like he is?" she said with shaky lips
Klaus held his hand to his mouth, his eyes tearing up
"Elizabeth it's not the-"
"Am I like that pathetic, soulless Klaus Mikaelson?" she demanded to know
Katherine and Klaus made eye contact. She looked at him apologetically while he simply broke into a million pieces
"Fix this" Elijah told me as his finger dangled in the air threateningly "Fix what you have done Kol"
"I haven't done anything"
"You could have told us about her plans!" Marcel roared
"That wouldn't make me a great friend now would it?" I snapped
Marcel took a step towards me, with hatred in his eyes but Rebekah pushed him back
"This is not the time to argue. Klaus get a grip on yourself. Katherine you help Hayley- I mean Elizabeth- settle until we find a way to…" he voice trailed off "Where is she?"
We all looked around to realize Hayley, or Elizabeth, was missing. Adding yet another thing to our list of problems.
Sorry for the short chapter. I'll try to update ASAP! Leave a review to motivate me please ;)
