Hey, lovelies, got the idea for this next installment of my one shot series while listening to "Wanted Dead or Alive" (Bon Jovi definitely works when you're looking for inspiration, I tell you). I wanted to update over the weekend, but I didn't get around to it. Anyway, here's my next installment. As always, never lose hope, lovelies! Klaroline will happen!

4x12 AU.

I really wanna love somebody
I really wanna dance the night away
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way
I really wanna touch somebody
I'll think about you every single day
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way

Mystic Falls High School Gym...

"Klaus, are you sure that we should be here? Bonnie's dad canceled the Decade Dance."

Caroline had a worried look on her face as she and Klaus entered the gym. Tonight was supposed to be the Eighties Decade Dance, but Bonnie's father, the Interim Mayor, insisted on canceling the festivities. However, Klaus got the idea in his head to sneak in anyway, which was why they were dressed as the Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride.

"I am absolutely positive, love," he replied. "Just because the Interim Mayor called off the dance doesn't mean that we can't indulge, right? Besides, I haven't really been to a Decade Dance since the 20s Decade Dance."

Caroline nodded, having remembered that night. That was before Alaric went berserk and took her hostage. Even though she still didn't understand Klaus' reason to break into the school, she decided to go along with it, knowing that she'd find out soon enough. She kicked some of the balloons on the floor around, looking at all of the decorations that were put up, wishing that everyone else could've been there to have as much fun as they were going to be having.

Klaus smiled at her as he went to the DJ booth to get some music going. While he was partial to the 1920s, he did remember what the 1980s were like. In fact, he remembered being in Germany when the Berlin Wall was finally brought down. Who knew that a former movie actor could convince the leader of Russia to tear down a wall that had been up since the end of World War II?

Once he had gotten the music set up, he walked over to Caroline, extended his hand, and said, "May I have this dance, love?"

Caroline regarded his hand and, after a moment, she nodded and took it, picking up her skirt with her other hand, allowing him to lead her out onto the dance floor, pulling her close to him as they danced. Although it hadn't been that long since the last time they danced together, it felt somewhat like an eternity to Klaus. He liked the feeling of the beautiful blonde vampire dancing against him, sensing the emotions she was feeling at the moment.

"This may seem like a stupid question, but were you around during this decade?"

"As a matter of fact, yes," he replied. "So much of it was focused on ending a struggle between communism and democracy. I have to say, the fact that a former movie actor could run a country is impressive."

"Yeah, Reagan was a great President," said Caroline. "He did a lot of amazing things, like getting the American hostages released from captivity in Iran, and getting Gorbechev to take down the Berlin Wall. To be honest, up until Reagan took office, the country was going down the country, for lack of a better term."

Klaus didn't answer right away, just listened to her speak. He liked hearing her voice. She didn't know it, but she calmed him with just her voice alone. He could be in the worst mood imaginable, but the moment he heard her voice, all was right in the world again.

Seeing that he was quiet, Caroline said, "Are you okay? You seem like you're a million miles away."

"I'm fine, love," he replied. "Just enjoying the moment, that's all."

Caroline nodded. "Apparently, since you were so quiet."

Klaus smiled at her and pulled her closer to him, kissing her softly. Caroline smiled against his lips as she returned his kiss. As the kiss deepened, everything seemed to melt away and it was just them. A few minutes later, they reluctantly stepped back and looked into each others' eyes, blue meeting greenish blue. There was a silence between them until Klaus spoke.

"Aren't you glad we took the chance and snuck in here?"

"I was a bit hesitant at first, since I've never done something like this before, but yes, I am," she replied. "I never thought I'd say this, but I actually liked being rebellious. Personally, you're a better Dread Pirate Roberts than Cary Elwes."

Klaus chuckled. "Is that so? Well, you're definitely a better Princess Buttercup than Miss Robin Wright, as good an actress as she was back in her heyday."

Caroline giggled and kissed him again, pulling back quickly as she got an idea. "You know what would be fun? Running through the hall and then doing a slide stop, like they did in The Breakfast Club." She saw the curious look on his face. "Come on, try it. You were the one who wanted us to be here, so why not make this date even more enjoyable?"

Klaus didn't give her a verbal response, just nodded and they exited the gym, heading out into the deserted hallway. Once there, he said, "Exactly how is this done?"

"It's really simple," said Caroline. "Watch me."

Letting go of his hand, she walked down the hallway and once she had gotten a good distance, she turned around and picking up her skirt with both hands, broke into a run (a normal human run, no vampire speed), sliding to a halt once she was close enough, a little squeak emitting from the soles of her boots against the floor. "See? Nothing to it."

Klaus shook his head. "It's as simple as that?"

"Of course it is," said Caroline. "I know it seems a little weird to you because you've never done it before, but once you do it a few times, you'll get the hang of it. Now, do you want me to show you one more time, or..."

"No, once was enough," said Klaus. "I think I got the gist of it."

Caroline nodded and then watched as he walked away, only this time, he had gotten a bit more distance than she did. He turned around, broke into a run, and then slid to a halt, his boots making the floor squeak underneath him.

"How was that, love?"

"Impressive," she replied. "I've got to admit, for the first time, you really nailed it." She smiled. "Want to go again?"

"Absolutely," said Klaus. "This time, though, why don't we do it together? It'll be much better than doing it individually."

Caroline nodded and, taking his hand and picking up the hem of her skirt again, they walked down the hall and once they had gotten a good distance, they turned around, broke into a run and slid to halt, the squeaking against the floor coming out almost harmoniously.

Note: As I said in my first note, I was inspired to do this while listening to "Wanted Dead or Alive," which just so happens to be my favorite Bon Jovi song. I know that it was really Stefan and Rebekah who broke into the school in that episode, but I thought it would've been awesome if it had been Klaus and Caroline instead. I had originally wanted them to be John Bender and Claire Standish from The Breakfast Club, but I'm going with the second option: Princess Buttercup and the Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride. My third choice would've been Jareth and Sarah from The Labrinyth, but I just can't picture Klaus with David Bowie hair. :p Anyway, enjoy and have a great night, my lovelies!
