Chapter 55 Nerves

21st January 1966 3pm

We'd been home a while now, we alerted the police but they didn't have any leads.

I finished work and headed to the school to pick up Benny and Tia. Joe got the bus.

I walked through up the concrete steps already 10 minutes late, the grounds were basically empty.

Benny and Tia were waiting near the entrance holding their little bags.

"Hello Munchkins! How was school?" I HUGGED THEM BOTH,

"Boring" Tia replied holding one of my hands.

"I did painting!" Benny exclaimed. "Can I show you Mommy?"

"When we get home Benny" I smiled at him.

Across the parking lot I noticed something, a black hooded figure stood by the gate waving a machete, wearing a clown mask.

I prayed Benny and Tia hadn't noticed.

I picked Benny up and tightened the hold on Tia's hand.

"Why are we rushing?" Tia asked as I began to run.

"I need to get home very quickly" I said reaching the car. I put them in the back and I got into the car locking all the doors before stepping on the gas and driving out of there. I didn't see that person standing there again.

There hasn't been an incident since that day. I told the police but they still can't do anything. I feel like I'm running in circles everyday.

I feel like I'm in the exact same place I was a year ago.

A year ago I had been 5 months pregnant, I had just lost Johnny and we still had no idea who the murderer was, we were so naive.

Johnny and I had gone to lunch, just me and him. The kids were at school and Lisa had offered to look after Lilly for a couple hours.

"Baby, do you ever wish we could have more children?"

"I think 5 is enough" I laughed.

"Well it's technically 3 because Arianna and Joe are basically adults"

"Lilly isn't even 1 yet, maybe in a year's time I would consider it. Maybe when our life is less hectic"

"I don't think our life can ever be calm Baby"
