Chapter Fifty-Four
"Jefferson where are you taking me?" Aurora asked as Jefferson carefully lead her blindfolded up the path.
"We are almost there Rory, about twenty more yards."
"Yeah, twenty more yards straight up a mountain!" Aurora teased as Jefferson directed her up the path to the top of the cliff side. "Why do I have to be blindfolded?"
"Because it is a surprise! And because we are in Neverland; home of never growing up! So this little game just seem appropriate."
"Great, is being in Neverland going to make you even more playful than you already are?" Aurora teased.
"Oh like you want me all boring and proper like any old royal suitor." He stopped pulling her and came around behind her positioning her in front of him. "Alright stand right there. Now just remember no one has lived in this place for decades, and it doesn't look like anyone has been here in the twelve years since I left this place."
"Can I look yet?" Aurora bounced slightly.
Jefferson tightened his grip on her shoulders as he ran on. "Just remember it needs some work, before it becomes a home, but your magic should be just the trick."
"Just let me see it already, Jefferson!" Aurora bounced again.
Jefferson brought his hands up and untied the blindfold he felt Aurora go completely still as she looked at the house. What was I thinking? She just going to see it as a rundown shack. It looks even worse than I remembered it.
Aurora wasn't expecting the house to be as rundown as it looked. Jefferson never seems to like anything that someone could possible describe as poor. He always seems to care way too much for style and detailed items that the rich seemed to have. And the years had definitely taken the style and detailed items away from this house. But with a little magic, I can give it, its style back and we can fill it with our own items, and it will really be a lovely home.
"I know it's far from a castle but…" Jefferson started, trying to think of an excuse, for the house's appearance.
"No, it is much better than any castle." Aurora turned a huge smile on her face, as she gave him hug. "It is going to be the perfect home." She pulled back looking over his shoulder at the view. "And the view from up here is amazing! Are those Pirate ships way out there to sea?"
"Yes I use to come up here when I was sick of the other Lost Boys and just needed a break." I would watch for my father's ship and wish for him to come take me away back to the Enchanted Forest, and now here I am once again, only this time I can never return to the Enchanted Forest, and I definitely don't want anything to do with my father. If he ever found out about Aurora and her connection to Rumple.
Aurora turned back towards the house. "So you spent a lot of time here then."
"A far amount, yes."
"Well that is prefect, you must have pictured this place as a home… a real home a million times."
"More like a billion." Jefferson muttered staring at the broken front door.
"Wonderful!" Aurora beamed.
"Wonderful is the last word I would have used to described how I felt playing pretend up here. Sad, depressing, lonely, are all better choices."
"It is wonderful because I can use your daydreams to create our new home."
It took a moment for Aurora's words to make sense to Jefferson. He gave a little nod as it all clicked "Yes!" and smiling he picked her up and gave her a spin and listening to her giggle. "Rory, that is bloody brilliant!" He put her down giving her a kiss.
"Well come on…" Aurora pulled Jefferson over to the front door. She placed her hand on the broken, moss covered, wooden door. "Just think about what you used to day dream this place looked like." she explained as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
Jefferson gave a nod and closed his eyes. Aurora watched the smile on his face grow as he pictured his prefect little home.
The wood would be fresh cut none of that moss or vines. The roof; it had a leak, that would need to be fixed, can't have the rain coming in on a cold stormy night like it used too. The bricks in the fireplace would be whole, none of that cracked and crumbling mess that is on the outside of the house. The windows I think all of them were broken, so new glass is needed. The floor would have to be wooden and polished, can't have a Princess living in a dirt floor house. And one room isn't enough it has to be at least four, so we will need some walls around the kitchen, dining room, and bedroom, and Aurora and I will have to have a little study for our books, to play cards, or just sitting by the fireplace late at night.
Jefferson felt his smile widen at the thought of once again spending nights with Rory in his arms just staring into the fireplace and telling stories.
The bed! The bed will have to be fixed it was broke, and desk drawer always stuck, and the cabinets half of them were missing doors, that won't do. Jefferson ran on.
Aurora felt everything Jefferson thought about the house and his wishes for it. She let her magic pour out through the door, across the outside of the house, up and over the roof. Fixing and making his suggested improvements. Then she fixed the fireplaces and windows. She pushed a little harder with her magic to create the wooden floor and walls to give the house different rooms. Aurora dropped the spell a moment, feeling a little out of breath.
Jefferson felt Aurora drop the spell and he opened his eyes. "Rory you alright?"
"Creating the floor and those walls from nothing was harder than I thought." She pulled her hand away from the door to rub her temples.
Jefferson helped her inside and sat her on a chair that didn't look like it would collapse from her weight.
"You been pushing yourself too much the last two days. I should have just had us stay at the tavern in town for our first night here in Neverland."
"Well when demons and the King of Hell are after you and your friends one tends to do what one has too survived. I am just happy we made it out of that mess with the Winchesters to make it to Neverland."
"Yes, but we should have waited a day or two before you tried to fix this place up. The broken furniture will have to wait." Jefferson turned in a circle taking in the room and the new walls. "But seriously Aurora this looks better than any of my day dreams. You did a wonderful job."
"Rumple would have yelled at me for having to have touched the door. But it still just takes too much energy for me to wave my hand and make items change." Aurora walked into the bedroom and saw the four post bed lay broken against the wall. Its old canopy was torn and blowing in the wind from the open window.
"Well Rumple isn't here so you just use your magic however you like." Jefferson reassured her as he leaned in the doorway.
Aurora placed her hands on the wooden bed.
"What are you doing? I thought we agreed we were not going to fix anything inside tonight?"
"I just wanted to fix the bed so we can sleep in it tonight."
"Oh I thought we would just sleep by the fireplace. I can have a fire going in no time, and I am thinking dinner, and cards, to celebrate our first night in our new home." He smiled waving his hands in her direction as he waited for her approval.
"I like the sound of that, but the best part of having a home is having your own bed. It is one of the few things I missed most the last three months we have been on the run. I know you miss your room back at Rumple's castle too. And I just really want a bed, our bed." She gave him a smile before she closed her eyes and focused her energy into the wood.
I want it to be dark wood, and it has to be level so all the legs need to be fix. I want soft downy feathers in the pillows and feathers and straw in the mattress. Clean, soft, white sheets, with a crocheted blanket like the one I was making back in the Dark Castle. And that torn canopy has to be fixed and I want it to be a sheer green, blowing in the breeze coming in the window from the sea.
Aurora opened her eyes seeing her work. "Perfect." She turned suddenly feeling little light head. She felt the blood dipping before Jefferson could say anything. And she leaned back on the bed. Jefferson was at her side in a moment, helping her sit on the edge of the bed.
"I am alright." Aurora forced herself to open her eyes and smile.
"That's it you are done for the night."
"It isn't even night yet."
Jefferson picked her up and walked her around the bed to put her carefully down in it, before he sat down beside her.
"You used too much energy lately. Getting us and the Winchesters away from Crowley, and now the house. No more magic for a few days. Agreed?"
"Maybe no magic until tomorrow."
"That is the best deal you are going to give me isn't it?"
"Well you saw the state of the house. You aren't exactly a carpenter,"
"No I may be a good seamster but i don't know the first thing about carpentry."
Aurora smiled, "I think I just need to rest for a few minutes, and I will be fine. Then we can do all those things you planned for us tonight."
"A rest sounds like a good idea. Move over so I can try out our new bed too." He took off his jacket hanging it from one of the post on the bed. "Does it feel as comfortable as it looks?" He questioned.
"Yes" Aurora moved over letting Jefferson lay down beside her. She closed her eyes as he wrapped his arm protectively around her and she quickly drifted off to sleep.
