Morgenstern and Herondale
Many quick fun-filled days had passed since Brother Jeremiah's inconclusive visit, and I had forgotten about everything to do with pregnancy and babies. I had spent most of the free hours I had training; Jace had argued and argued against me training with the possibility of being pregnant, but I had dismissed him, saying that exercise and training wouldn't kill me or harm any potential little baby. It was Monday morning, and I was stretching my sleepy legs in the training hall. Honestly, sharing a bed with Jace was like sleeping with a giant baby—his arms were permanently around me, making it ridiculously hot and sweaty, and, he would mumble and talk unconsciously. I loved teasing him about it, especially since he denied it.
I stretched my arms and winced when they clicked. I skipped to the wall of weapons and picked up my favourite trusty seraph blade, swinging the blade around and smiling when it flashed icy-blue.
"Hello, old friend," I ran my fingers along the blade.
"Hey there!"
I jumped at the voice, grinning when I turned around and saw Jace. His grin mirrored mine exactly as he sauntered slowly towards me, not a tiny bit cold in just his pyjama trousers. Snatching my blade, Jace examined it, raising his eyebrow. "You like this one then?" he asked.
I nodded. "I've had it for ages." Jace handed it to me and I walked back to the wall, blushing as I felt his golden eyes on me the whole time. I carefully hung up my glowing seraph blade; as soon as the weapon left my skin, it flashed off, like a bright fire suddenly put out by water. I turned back towards my husband—I blushed a deeper red, it sounded strange calling him that, and I don't know why.
Jace crossed his arms and smirked, "Now you've got me for ages instead."
I rolled my eyes and grinned, "What a shame." I began walking to the door—but Jace's arms hooked around my waist and yanked me into him, pulling me against his chest hard.
"You didn't mean that," Jace cooed and pouted. With one of his fingers, he bopped me on the nose gently and I stuck my tongue out at him. "Rude," Jace growled. "Want some breakfast? I've cooked enough for three thousand."
I laughed and nodded, grabbing his hand. "C'mon then."
After I arrive in the dining room, the delicious scent of food hits me and makes my stomach rumble. The dining table has plates of bacon, eggs, sausages, potatoes and god knows what else. My eyes widen and I turn to Jace.
He shrugs. "I figured you needed more to eat. You should be eating for two now." His eyes flickered to my tummy.
I huff and cross my arms. "I bet I'm not even pregnant, Jace."
Jace raised an eyebrow expertly, daring. "Oh, you bet do you?" he fingered his chin in thought, "What do you bet then? How much?"
I smirk. "If I'm not pregnant, I get full custody of the covers at night time and your side of the bed."
Jace grinned, "If you are, then you don't train until the baby is born, and," his lips quirked up. "You let me cook for you every night."
I shook my head and folded my arms. "Nu uh, you gotta let me cook at least ONE day!"
"Nope." Jace popped the 'p'. "That's the deal, like it or lump it."
I rolled my eyes. "Fine. Deal."
Jace walked to the table and pulled out a chair for me. He signalled me to sit with one quick wave of his hand. "Madam."
Huffing, I sunk into the chair and muttered, "Thank you, kind sir."
Jace grinned and made his way swiftly around the food-filled table, sinking into the chair opposite without taking his honey eyes off me. I couldn't contain my smile as I scooped bacon, eggs and sausages on my plate. Pouring myself an orange juice, I shook my head in disbelief and amusement when Jace began shovelling heaps of food into his mouth.
I giggled, "You could eat for Idris, you know."
He shrugged, grabbing the vinegar and splashing it across his breakfast. "I'm a growing lad."
"You stopped growing—" I thought for a second. "—like, years ago."
Jace shook his head at me. "No way, I'm still growing."
"Suuure," I snorted, nibbling on some bacon. "You were probably born in a grow bag."
"Must've been a sexy grow bag." Jace growled playfully.
Shaking my head, I began tackling the breakfast. Oh man, it sure was a never-ending mass of greasy unhealthy food, but it was absolutely delicious! I munched on the food and before I knew it, most of the food was devoured. I was hungry.
Jace's eyes flicked to my plate. "I need to call the Brothers again. Maybe they have more news."
"Would you stop worrying?" I sigh and put my cutlery down with a clash. "I'm perfectly happy and fine, and if there is something wrong, it won't be that bad."
Jace frowned and stood up, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "I'm going to call them now."
I groaned and shook my head at him. I stood up from the table and carried out all our plates and left over breakfast. I dumped it all in the kitchen and made my way quickly upstairs. Sighing, exasperated, I pulled open the wooden wardrobe lazily, grabbing some ripped jeans and a red top. I quickly dressed and pulled on some socks. Yawning, I contemplated hiding from the Silent Brothers, but they'd probably seek me out because of my over-thinking mind.
I thought about Valentine then. I quickly yanked open the bedside table and snatched the emergency mobile phone. Rolling my eyes, I dialled my father's number and pressed my phone to my ear.
He picked up. "Hello?"
I gulped. "Hello, father."
"Ahh, Clarissa." I frowned at his voice—he seemed smug. "It's been a while since we've spoken."
"Yes it has." I say, almost bored. "How's Jonathan?"
"He's adjusting to the new lifestyle." Valentine said simply. "Perhaps you and Jace can come over for dinner tonight. We have a few things to talk about."
I shrug to myself, my mind ticking—if we went over, Valentine would be ridiculously smug and will gloat the whole evening, but if I don't, he'll come over to the manor and would judge every single thing I do. "Sure," I sigh. "That would be…pleasant, thank you."
"See you tonight." He immediately hung up.
Clenching my teeth hard, I groaned and fisted my whitening hands in my shirt. Bloody annoying old man. He couldn't ever just leave me alone in peace—Valentine is like a painful wound that refused to heal over, he constantly hurts me and dismisses all the decisions I make.
Cracking my knuckles angrily, I storm down the stairs and launch myself into the sofa, cursing my father. Jace walked in suddenly and slumped next to me. "The brothers will be here soon."
I narrowed my fiery green eyes at him. "Why? I am fine."
"You could be pregnant." Jace countered, raising an eyebrow at my tone of voice.
"Ughhhhh." I whined out loud. "I'm going before they come here." I quickly launched myself from the chair—but Jace snagged my arm and hauled me backwards, into his lap. "Jaaaaace." I squirmed and tried to jump up; his arms wound around my tummy like vines, restraining me.
"Nope," Jace smirked. "No moving until the Brother is here. He will literally walk through the door any minute."
"Let me goooo! I don't want to see them again!"
"Tough luck, sweetheart." Jace chirped.
I could feel the Silent Brother close by…the stench of lingering death and foreknowledge alerting me to their presence. The front door clicked and the figure glided in like a black ghost—like the grim reaper. I pressed myself backwards, into Jace, as if I could hide. His hand found mine and squeezed my fingers. Clarissa Herondale…Jace Herondale. The Brother nodded his head in greeting, telepathically talking to us. You are pregnant, Clarissa. And because of the excessive amount of angelic blood you two possess, your child is easily detectable. Therefore, it is advised you stay away from any demonic possibilities.
I gritted my teeth hard; I could almost feel Jace's smug, annoying expression burning into my cheek. Ignoring his 'I told you so' golden eyes, I asked the Brother, "So…the pregnancy will be normal?"
Yes, the overall pregnancy will be normal. The Silent Brothers will be monitoring you until you have your child. We will be in touch. The Brother bowed his head and glided slowly from the living room, leaving through the front door.
I felt Jace's breath against my ear. "I told you so," he whispered.
I quickly turned around on his lap and faced him, my legs either side of his. I fell forward and hugged him. "Shut up," I whispered back. Jace wrapped his muscular arms around me and kissed my forehead.
