Prompt: Secret
Word Count: 609
POV: Rose

"Okay, little girl, it's time to spill," Abe breezed his way into my hospital room, uninvited but not unexpected.

"Spill what?" I feigned innocence as I turned back to the tv I was distracting myself with.

I was getting IV fluids and anti-nausea medications to battle my hyperemesis gravidarum, or so I'd been told by my nurse earlier.

The pregnancy hormones were steadily rising, I had the sonogram proof of the baby I was carrying, but I still hadn't told Abe anything about it.

"Now's not the time to play games," Zmey warned.

I rolled my eyes but lowered the volume on the TV.

It wasn't that I wanted to keep secrets or play games. I just didn't exactly know how to go about telling my father—who I was still getting to know-that I was pregnant and he'd be a grandfather in the next few months.

Janine found out in the bathroom stall with me, and Dimitri got the news when I did. Abe would be the first person I'd have to tell on my own.

He was the picture of calm sitting next to me on the edge of the stretcher, but I didn't know if that would last once he found out.

"Okay, just shut the door please," I requested.

I was hoping once the bomb dropped there'd be a contained explosion.

"How serious is this?" he asked, walking back to loom over me.

I sat up a little straighter and tucked my legs in under me.

"Hand me my bag…" I pointed over to my backpack hanging over the corner of the little plastic chair in the room.

"Enough already just tell me."

I snatched the bag from his outstretched hand.

"I don't know how to tell you, but I can show you…" I was digging around, looking for the tiny pictures I had gotten earlier.

When I got my hands on them, I pulled them out slowly and very carefully.

He recognized what they were the second he saw them in my hands.

"That's yours?"

I nodded.

A quick flash of shock crossed his face, replaced almost instantly by a look of chilling calculation.

"I'll kill that Ivashkov, I swear I will! I warned him what would happen. I explicitly told him every detail of what I'd do to him if he got you pregnant before you had a chance to launch your career. I knew he wasn't smart enough to heed my warning…"

"You done now?" I asked, watching him pace back and forth beside me.

He paused for the briefest second, "What is so entertaining about this, Rose? What makes you think you could handle being a mother right now?"

"I have no idea if I can handle being a mother, but I'm going to do this. I'll have my hands full, but I know I won't be alone."

"Damn right you won't be alone in this! I'll chain that spoiled royal brat to my grandbaby's crib by his fingernails if I have to," Abe resumed his pacing, running a hand over his goatee deep in thought, "He won't be able to leave…unless you send him away of course."

"That won't be necessary, Dad. It's not Adrian's baby, it's Dimitri's. You know, spirit side effects and all that."

A glint of realization glowed in his eyes.

"Of course!" he stilled beside me, taking up his seat next to me once more. Abe grabbed both of my hands in his and leaned over to give me a kiss on the cheek, "Congratulations, my dear, you've been blessed with a miracle. Despite that however, I'm still going to have to kill your boyfriend."
