Mother's Day
"Oh, maybe that one." Nashi pointed towards something in a window. Natsu glanced at the store and saw that she was pointing towards a book. The pink haired Dragon Slayer glanced at it with a raised eyebrow. "You sure? A book?"
Nashi shrugged. "I don't know! She likes to read."
Natsu snorted. "That's an understatement, but… try something more special. You gave her a book for her birthday."
The girl sighed as she rubbed the back of her head. "Something special… oh I know!" She turned to Natsu a big smile on her face. "I read somewhere that there's a crystal key! It doesn't summon an spirit since it's been sapped of it's magic, but it would still be cool to get it for her!"
Natsu smirked as he heard this. "Damn Nashi, that's a really good idea. No idea where you read that but let's go get that! That will be the perfect Mother's Day present for Lucy!"
Nashi nodded her head. "There's just one problem." Natsu raised an eyebrow. The girl played with her fingers and chuckled nervously. "There's… um… an ice creature slash golem or whatever guarding it."
The Dragon Slayer laughed out loud. "That's hilarious! Nashi that's an added bonus! Come on let's go beat the crap out of that ice creature! Especially with our flames!"
The girl grinned as well and jumped up her fists bursting into flames. "Let's do this!"
"Yea!"
"God damn it open up!"
"Come on! Come on!"
"Be quiet!"
"Me? You're the one who's making the noise!"
"I am not!"
"Yes you are!"
A loud crash was heard and the two flinched. A few seconds later Gray and Juvia walked into the kitchen. Both Jason and Jane were covered in batter as they sheepishly glanced at the two.
Juvia raised an eyebrow at them. "What are you two doing?"
Both twins looked at each other before at their mother. With a big sheepish smile they spoke up. "Happy Mother's Day!" They shouted together.
Gray groaned and rubbed his forehead. Of course they would make a mess like this. Neither of them knew how to cook and them trying to make breakfast for Juvia was just… well a mess. He knew they meant well but they could have asked him for help.
Juvia smiled and shook her head. "Come on guys. I really appreciate it but…" She chuckled softly. "You two made a big mess in the kitchen."
"We're sorry." Jason spoke as he rubbed the back of his head. "We just wanted to make this day special for you."
Jane nodded as well. "We didn't mean to make a mess in the kitchen. We'll clean it up, we promise."
Juvia smiled as she walked over to them and gave each one of them a kiss. "But I appreciate the gesture. Just next time, ask your father for help… or Mira."
The twins chuckled and nodded their heads. "We will."
Gray smiled. "Alright!" He clapped his hands together. "Let's get this kitchen cleaned up and we'll head out for lunch."
"Happy Mother's Day!"
Erza was sitting in a chair as she turned her head. Her eyes went wide when she saw both Jellal and Rose standing in front of her with a big strawberry cheese cake and a wrapped present in their hands.
The red head was actually surprised. "W-What? What's going on?"
Jellal knelt down and kissed her. "Well we thought we'd celebrate a day just for you."
"And that's… Mother's Day?" The red head asked a bit confused. Rose glanced at her father confused as well but Jellal smiled. "I know we haven't celebrated it because something always came in the way. Either you were away or Rose was sick or something else was happening with the Guild but this time we're celebrating you."
Erza blinked. "So… all these years when the others were gone they were celebrating… Mother's Day?"
Jellal shrugged. "Well… yes and no. Natsu and Nashi have been celebrating whenever they could but they know that Lucy deserves it since they cause a lot of trouble for her. The twins try to celebrate it but they screw it up a lot."
Erza smiled softly. "Thanks guys."
Rose set down the cake she was holding and walked up to her mother before pulling her into a hug. "I love you mom."
"I love you too sweetie." Erza told her, embracing the hug. Jellal chuckled and put a hand on her shoulder as the two parted. "We're going to make this day very special. We're celebrating for the first time with nothing going around."
The red head smiled. "I love you."
"Love you too." Jellal said before kissing her.
Erza glanced at the cake and smiled. "That cake looks really delicious."
"We made it ourselves!" Rose called with a big smile on her face. "We went out and even picked the strawberries ourselves, got the best out of the best!"
Erza chuckled and was about to cut the cake when there was knocking on the door. Erza was about to go answer it but Jellal pushed her back down. "Sit, I'll go see who it is."
"Thanks Jellal."
The blue haired wizard headed over the door and opened it. He saw Sting standing there and was a bit shocked. "Oh hey Sting, what's up?"
The blonde Dragon Slayer sighed as he rubbed the back of his head. "This might sound a bit stupid, but… have you guys seen Kathy?"
Jellal shook his head. "No unfortunately not. Why? Did something happen?"
Sting sighed. He was looking really uncomfortable. "Well… it's… ah it's nothing. Sorry for bothering you."
"Sting?"
The two guys saw Erza coming to the door, looking a bit worried. "Is everything alright?"
He nodded. "Yea, sorry for bothering you." He was about to leave but Erza quickly grabbed his arm. "Sting, I know something is wrong, just tell us."
He sighed. He knew he shouldn't have bothered them. It was a special day after all. "I shouldn't be bothering you guys."
"Come on Sting." The red head pushed him and he finally gave in. "Alright, Kathy is missing."
Erza stopped as she heard this. Kathy was missing? She shook her head slightly. "Did something happen?"
He shook his head. "I don't know. This time around is generally a bit… weird for us. Kera disappears and Kathy always asked where she was. But now she's gone and I can't find her."
"Did you check the river?"
"Yep."
"How about the cliff?"
"That one too."
Erza frowned as she though these things through, but Sting was quick to leave. "You guys should celebrate today. I'll find them."
Shaking her head, the Requip Knight grabbed her stuff. "that's not a way to talk about this Sting. I'll help you."
"I really don't want to…" Sting started but Erza shot him a glare. "Say anything like that again and I will punch you."
Sting kept quiet as the red head walked passed him. Jellal gave him a small smirk. "Way to go to lose both your wife and daughter on Mother's Day."
"Just shut up Jellal…" Sting muttered.
Kathy sighed as she walked through the forest, a bag slung around her body. She had a lot on her mind and she hated this time of the year. She wanted to celebrate but unfortunately, she couldn't, because the person she would celebrate with was always gone.
She knew it was Mother's Day today but her mother was nowhere to be found. Everyone else was celebrating, even Rose whose mother was mostly always gone or busy with something else on this day. She wondered why her own mother would just disappear like that? Didn't she love them?
The girl kicked a rock away and tried to think of something. She wanted to give something really special for her mother but again… she was gone. Kathy was curious as to where she would go on this day.
Her father didn't say anything either because he had no idea himself. Normally her parents would tell each other everything, where they would go and on what mission. None of them would go out without telling the other that they were going out on a mission. Well… except for that one time when they were fighting but that was something different.
Sitting down on a log she glanced out at the lake in front of her. Pulling the bag off of her she grabbed a box that was inside. Opening it she sighed slightly. "There goes another Mother's Day… and I had a really nice present too…" Some children would be happy to not need to celebrate Mother's Day, but Kathy was different about that. She was grateful for her mother and wanted to make her proud. She had a double relationship with her mother. The one was that she was her daughter and a daughter-mother relationship was obvious, but the other one was of a teacher and a student. Her mother taught her about her magic, about the ways of a Dragon and so much more.
She wanted to make her proud. She wanted to make both her parents proud, but every time her mother disappeared on this holiday, Kathy wondered if she didn't want to be with her, if she did something wrong, or if she was just a horrible daughter that her mother didn't want.
Closing the box, she sighed. Maybe she shouldn't think about this. She'd just get sad and depressed. "Guess I can do this tomorrow… if she's back…"
"Do what?"
Kathy turned around and her eyes went wide when she saw her aunt and her father standing there giving her a worried glance. The brunette stumbled to her feet. "W-What are you doing here?"
Sting shook his head. "I got worried when you disappeared. I checked all the usual spots but you were nowhere to be found."
"Then how did you find me?" She asked grabbing her bag and slinging it around her body again.
Erza gave her a soft smile. "Well… this was your mother's place when she was really upset. She would come out here, sit by the lake and think things through. Heck, she sometimes stayed here for a few days."
"I see…" Kathy muttered slightly as she glanced at the ground. Even subconsciously she was almost like her mother. Too bad she didn't know where she was now.
Sting put a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Kathy… what's wrong?"
"It's… nothing." She didn't want to bother her father about this. He probably was sad that Kera was gone at the moment himself.
Erza walked up to her as well. "You can talk to us Kathy. Come on."
The young Dragon Slayer sighed. "I just… I'm just worried about mom. She always disappears on this day and… I'm starting to wonder that she doesn't like me being her daughter. That she doesn't want to be remembered that I'm a failure."
"What?" Sting asked his eyes going wide. "That's ridiculous Kathy! Your mother loves you so much. Now I can't tell you why she disappears on these days but I can promise you that it has nothing to do with you. You're not a failure Kathy."
"Then why does she always leave on this day?" Kathy asked glancing up at the two grownups.
Erza sighed. "I don't know, but we can try and see if we can find out what happened. Where she goes."
Kathy rubbed the back of her head. "How do we do that?"
The red head smirked. "Oh… I think I know who we can talk to."
A tall white Exceed was smashed against a table, one of her arms pulled back as a pained expression landed on her face. She gritted her teeth as she tried not to let out a pained moan. Erza stood behind her, pulling her arm back painfully. "Talk Archangel, where is she?"
"I don't… know what you're… talking about." Archangel groaned. She had no idea what this was about. The red head had just appeared in the Guild and assaulted her.
Erza looked a bit annoyed. "I'll ask you one more time. Where is Kera?"
"I don't know!" She gasped as her arm was pulled even further. The red head frowned as she leaned forward. "We all know that you know where Kera is. You always know."
Archangel gritted her teeth. "I swear I don't…" She shouted as pain flared up her arm. "Fine I know where she is!"
Erza let a bit of pressure go so she would talk. "And?"
The Exceed sighed and shook her head. "I can't… I promised Kera that I wouldn't tell anyone."
The red head let the Exceed go and waited for her to turn around. She held onto her arm while giving the Knight an apologetic look. Erza rubbed her forehead. "Archangel, this is important. Kathy is feeling really bad about this. She thinks Kera hates her for some reason. We need to know where she goes so Kathy doesn't feel horrible. You also promised to keep Kathy safe."
Sighing Archangel shook her head. She was right about that one. The thing is, who came first? The person she promised to protect with her life, her Master? Or the person, that her Master made her promise to protect.
Erza gave her a last look. "Just think of Kathy."
Taking a deep breath Archangel nodded. "Fine… she went to Kayeleth."
"Kayeleth?" Erza was surprised about that. Without saying or even thinking about it, she headed for the door. "Thanks!" she called before running out.
Archangel shook her head before rubbing her arm. A bit further and the red head might have broken her arm. What she would do for her family was unbelievable. On the other hand she would do the same.
Meanwhile Erza headed over to Sting who was sitting outside the Guild with Kathy, trying to comfort her. The blonde Dragon Slayer glanced up at her. Erza smiled. "She's at Kayeleth."
Sting blinked. "What's she doing there?"
"Don't know, but at least you now know where she is." Erza told them with a smile. "We can go out if you want to and…"
He shook his head. "It's fine Erza. You've done enough. Go celebrate with your family. I already hate it that I pulled you into this. Kathy and I will go and see what's going on."
Erza sighed. "Alright, but if anything is wrong, call me."
"We will, but thanks for everything." Sting told her with a smile while pulling her into a hug.
She chuckled. "Not a problem Sting."
A few hours later and both Kathy and Sting were walking through the forest. Kathy still had her bag with her, laying a hand on it for safe keeping. Sting noticed it and smiled slightly. "You got something in your bag?"
"It's… nothing." She shook her head.
Sting chuckled. "Come on Kathy, I know it's for your mother."
The girl blushed slightly. "I… it's…" She didn't know what to say. To say the truth, she was embarrassed for her present slightly.
Sting rubbed her hair. "Relax sweetie, whatever it is your mother will love it. We're going to go see her and settle all this, alright?"
"Yea…" Kathy muttered. "But I don't know why she hasn't' told us that she's going to grandma."
"Who knows." Sting shrugged. "But we'll find out soon enough." He honestly didn't know why his wife was doing this, but normally she had good reasons. He wouldn't think of anything until they got there.
After a few hours of agony on the train they were both glad that they were able to walk for once. They were almost at the house anyway. Sting was worried about this entire situation. Kathy was more worried than she usually was. It seemed she was really hurt by this. He just hoped Kera had a really good reason.
At least an hour later they arrived at a house with a beautiful garden on the side. Sting took a deep breath as he knocked on the door. It was now or never. He wondered how she would react.
The door opened and Kayeleth stood there. Her eyes went wide. "Oh, Sting, now this is a surprise."
He nodded with a small smile on his face. "Same here."
She glanced at Kathy and smiled. "And how's my favorite granddaughter doing?"
The brunette chuckled as the old woman pulled her into a hug. "I'm fine. Is mom there?"
"She is, come inside." She motioned them to follow her and the two entered the house. Heading into the living room they both saw Kera on the couch. Her eyes immediately went wide. "Sting!?" She couldn't believe they were here. "W-What… what are you doing here? How did you know I was here?"
Sting sighed. "Archangel spilled the beans and we're here because this has to stop."
Kayeleth glanced at her daughter a bit worried. "Kera… you told me they knew."
She sighed and lowered her head. "No they don't… I lied."
The blonde Dragon Slayer walked over to his wife and sat down next to her. "Kera… I don't know what this is about, but something has to be done. It's Mother's Day and you've always disappeared on this day, not saying a word. Kathy is worried."
The brunette covered her face. "Geez, I can't do anything right."
"Kera, what's this about really? Kathy thinks that you don't love her since you always leave."
"What?" Her eyes went wide as she glanced over at her daughter. Seeing Kathy lower her head so she didn't have to look her mother in the eyes, the woman immediately ran over to her and pulled the girl into a hug. "Oh sweetie, that's not true at all! I love you so much."
Kathy glanced up at her mother. "Then why are you always disappearing around this time? I thought you hated me… that you didn't want to be reminded of what a failure I am."
"That's nonsense!" Kera shouted at her. "I love you Kathy and I'm proud of you. I couldn't have any better daughter." When the two parted, Kera sighed. "The reason… why I always disappear is because I want to make up for my mistakes."
Now this caused Kathy to look even more confused. "Your mistakes?"
Kera nodded. "Well you know I haven't known about my mother until I was around the age of eighteen. I tried to repay her for everything by coming over every Mother's Day. If anything I have been a lousy person."
"You're not a lousy person." Sting told her walking over to her.
Kayeleth smiled. "I've been telling her that every year now and she still won't go home. She think she doesn't deserve this."
Sting smiled softly. "Well then… I think Kathy has something to give you."
Kera blinked before turning her attention back to her daughter. "You got me something?"
Immediately the blush returned to Kathy's face. She dug into her bag and pulled out a box. "I… it's nothing great, but… I thought for Mother's Day…" She shook her head and shut up before giving the box to her mother.
Kera smiled as she opened the box. As she did her eyes went wide. "Kathy… this…" She couldn't form any words as she pulled the object out of the box. It was a glass figurine of a Dragon. "Where did you get this? It's beautiful?"
"I… um… I made it." Kathy told her feeling a bit embarrassed.
This time even Sting couldn't believe it. "You made this? Kathy where did you learn to do this?"
The embarrassment was growing for the little girl as she rubbed the back of her head. "I um… I had a little help from Natsu. He showed me how to melt sand with my fire and form it into different figurines. I kept on trying until I got it right."
Kera smiled as she looked at the glass figurine. "It's beautiful Kathy. It's the best present I could ever wish for."
"You really like it?" She asked
Her mother chuckled and stood up while setting down the figurine. She pulled her daughter into a tight hug. "I love it. It's amazing."
Sting picked up the figurine and shook his head. "Damn… I need to ask Natsu how he does this."
Kayeleth chuckled. "How about we just celebrate Mother's Day together next time."
Kera smiled and nodded her head. "I think that would be the best. I'm sorry I disappeared like that. I just didn't want to bother you guys with this."
Sting chuckled. "Forgive and forget."
Kathy nodded her head. "We love you mom. We really do."
"I know sweetie, I know."
The family spent the rest of the day together and they all enjoyed it. It wasn't much and it was only half a day, but they sure all enjoyed it. Kera was first a bit worried that they would hate her for what she did, but it soon vanished as her family spent the entire day with her.
That evening the family of three said their goodbye to Kayeleth and headed back to Fairy Tail. It took them a while and all of them hated the train ride, but they got back before anyone left.
"Hey guys! We're back!" Sting called. Erza smiled as she saw them. She was sitting with her family at a table enjoying a good dinner. "Well it's good to see you all together."
Kera rubbed the back of her head. "I'm sorry about that. I just didn't want to bother anyone with this."
Erza rolled her eyes. "Come on, when is anyone bothered by you. Your family loves you and they just went out of their way to find you."
Kera nodded slightly. "I know, it was stupid but I wanted to make things better for my mother. I didn't want to hurt others with this."
"That's an understatement." Archangel shouted from the back, holding her arm which was now bandaged up. Kera glanced at her Exceed before back at Sting. Immediately he raised his hands in the air. "It wasn't me."
"Wimp…" Erza muttered while rolling her eyes. Kathy chuckled and Kera shook her head. Of course it was her. What else did she expect?
"Um… hey guys?" They all turned around and saw Lucy standing there a bit uncomfortable. "Has anyone of you seen Nashi or my idiot husband?"
They all shook their heads. "We're sorry, haven't seen them since the morning." Jellal told her.
The blonde groaned. "Of course." She muttered. "I know they are a bit… light headed."
"That's an understatement." Kera commented which caused everyone to chuckle. Lucy sighed as she shook her head. "I thought they'd at least let me know where they went. They just… disappeared."
Everyone stayed quiet, not sure what to do. Luckily for them, they didn't have to since the doors of the Guild opened up and two figures entered. "Hey mom!" A girl shouted running up to Lucy and pulling her into a hug.
"Nashi!?" Lucy shouted her eyes going wide. She saw how bruised and beaten up she looked and this caused her to worry. "What happened to you!?"
"Ah it's nothing." Natsu chuckled as he walked up to them, rubbing the back of his head. He also was battered and bruised, but didn't care at all.
Lucy frowned. "Where were you guys!? I was worried sick! You could have at least let me know where you were going!"
Nashi grinned and suddenly handed her a box. "Happy Mother's Day!" She called.
Confused Lucy grabbed the box and opened it. A gasp left her mouth as she saw the object. Without waiting she pulled it out and looking at it closer. It was a key that was completely made out of crystal. "This… how… where…" To say the least, Lucy was speechless.
Nashi jumped up and down. "Dad and I went out to get you that! It's an old key that was sapped of it's magic. Unfortunately it doesn't do anything, but we thought it would be really cool for you to have it!"
"Guys…" Tears started to fall down her face. "It's amazing." She pulled her daughter into a hug and smiled. "I love you Nashi."
"Love you too mom."
When they parted Lucy glanced at the two. "But that doesn't explain why you two are so beaten up."
Natsu grinned. "Yea, there was this ice creature that was in the cave with the key. No worries, we beat him up before grabbing the key. Was a lot of fun as well."
Erza chuckled. "It's amazing what our family will do."
"That's true." Kera spoke putting an arm around her daughter. "Even if we do make mistakes, our family will be there to cheer us up."
Kathy smiled as she glanced up at her mother. "I love you mom."
"I love you too."
I know it's not much, but it's something! So hope you guys enjoyed it! Also don't forget to leave a review behind or if you have an idea for a one shot.
Until next time!
