Part 2 of my short story; begin!
~Quigley's POV
As it turned out, I have almost all my classes with Fiona; except for science which she has with Isadora. I bet that was fun for both of them. However I did have history with her right now as the last class of our day. Violet has this class with me but she was working with someone else on our assignment right now. Fiona and I were sitting together at our table as I helped her with our map making work. History was kind of my best subject whenever we had to do stuff like this.
"You're way too good at this," She said.
I smiled at her. "Well cartography is my specialty."
I honestly don't see the issue the others have with her. Sure she kissed Klaus once. What's the big deal if he and Isadora are together now, and Fiona wasn't even flirting with him at all? Ok that solves my sister's problem. Though if I told her that I think Duncan would end up missing a brother again. Duncan doesn't really have much reason to be against Fiona other than siding with Violet. But loyalty is very important to the Quagmire family. Our parents always said there's never a reason to not by loyal to someone. She did join Olaf, but she's not working with him anymore, and he's been dead for over a year. Violet and Klaus are the only ones who seem to have real problems with her from actually having known her. Nonetheless, I think she's perfectly fine. And she's very pretty…
"How does this look," She showed me her paper wanting my approval.
"It looks good; you're getting better at this."
She smiled brightly at me, "Thank you, but I couldn't have done it without your help."
"Well you could have but I doubt it would have looked as good," I replied jokingly.
She laughed at that. I figured now might be the best time to put my little plan into action. I'm not sure why Violet conceded to letting me try to date Fiona so easily while the others were still skeptical, but I'm not turning down an opportunity to be with such a lovely girl.
"Fiona, I have something to ask you." She nodded at me to continue. "I know we only just met today, but I was wondering; would you be ok with me asking you out sometime?"
She blinked at me surprise and I saw a bit of pink fill her cheeks, "Yeah I'd be alright with that."
I smiled at her and went back to our assignment. I'll definitely get around to asking her once I get to know her a bit more.
~At the same time, Violet's POV
I sit near Quigley in our history class and I noticed Fiona had joined his table. They were talking happily. To be perfectly honest, I think I'm the one who's more hurt by the past than Klaus.
Klaus knew that he loved Isadora. Sunny and I knew he loved Isadora. So when I saw him develop a very small crush on Fiona back in the day, I was worried. But then everything went wrong as it always did, and Klaus happily went right back to Isadora and stayed there. Literally even, when they reunited on Briny Beach and, in front of everyone, Klaus picked up Isadora and gave her a kiss worthy of Gable and Leigh; I had to hold Duncan and Quigley back so they wouldn't kill him.
I could tell my brother hasn't had even one thought about Fiona since she left us. I guess I'm more bitter because of the principle of the matter. Fiona wasn't the first person to turn against us or me. I've had friends stab me in the back before, but they'd never done it to my family. But Quigley will get over her fast, like he always does. Does she deserve it? Probably not, but that's just how Quigley is. Duncan and Isadora said it best themselves: their brother has a weakness for pretty girls. Though he managed to restrain himself around me after I told him I loved Duncan. (I guess he respected his brother more.)
But as I watched the two of them interact I couldn't help noticing Quigley was acting… different. He's usually very straightforward around girls he's interested in, but he didn't even directly ask her out. Hopefully my plan will still work.
~Later that day, Quigley's POV
Dinner is being served in the cafeteria and I'm still sitting with Fiona. I assume my family was ok with this; they didn't say anything about it or ask me not to. Like it or not, Violet and Klaus were a part of my family now as much as my siblings were. Heh, they are my future in-laws after all. (Though I am a little disappointed that Duncan said Klaus will be his best man when he and Violet get married. Like come on dude! I'm your brother!)
"Quigley, can I ask you something?"
"Sure what's up?"
"Why aren't you sitting with your family?"
I shrugged, "They don't mind. My siblings are too busy with their significant others to care anyway."
Fiona made an amused sound, "I can see that. They definitely look happy together. But I wouldn't want you to feel like you have to sit with me just because you like me."
"When did I say that I liked you?"
"When you asked if I'd be ok with you asking me on a date," She replied bluntly.
"Oh… yeah… I guess that did give it away… But I'm not just sitting with you because I like you. I'm here because I want to be here. Do I need a reason beyond that?"
"I suppose not… I just don't want to take you away from your family."
She turned her attention back to her book as she ate. I guess now is probably not the best time to ask this but I blurted it out anyway.
"You're not still hung up on Klaus are you?"
She adjusted her glasses before looking at me, "I've been over him for a while now actually. I know I can't convince them of that, especially Isadora. I like you too Quigley. You're the nicest person I've met here so far. And if you're going to ask me out officially just know that I will most likely say yes."
~Normal POV
And so the days passed like this for some time. Quigley would spend more time with Fiona every chance he could get. The others simply allowed these interactions to happen while watching their plan play out as intended; at least for now. Quigley would spend his time with her at meals and outside of classes they would hang out together. The only thing he didn't do was bring her back to their dorm, as he was aware that such a thing might cause problems. It wasn't a problem for her though; she was fine with them going anywhere. And after a while he even started a trend of walking her back to her apartment every evening. (Needless to say, Fernald wasn't too happy about his sister being escorted home by a boy he obviously recognized from Mount Fraught.)
Eventually, they'd spent the past couple weeks getting closer. He was drawn to this one. He'd been with many girls but Fiona was different for him. He could tell she was special, and special is how he would treat her.
So once he finally did ask out officially, he made a silent promise that he wasn't going to let this girl go anytime soon. If only he knew how his family really felt about them being together.
~End of Chapter
Oh dear, Quigley might be in trouble. See you in the next part!
