The vomiting would not stop.
It had been going on all morning.
Anna sat on the bathroom floor, pale as a ghost and so weak. She had been keeping this secret for a month already, but not from Elsa. Elsa was way too smart not to figure it out and now that she knew, she only feared the worst. It wasn't that Anna was old. She was still very young but her body could only take so much and because of her age, there could be many….complications.
No one knew.
Anna didn't plan on letting anyone know until Elsa got back.
But that wish wasn't exactly in Anna's favor.
"Auntie Anna?" A small, childlike voice came from the bathroom doorway.
Anna turned around to see Evangeline standing at the doorway, her Elsa-like single braid draping over her left shoulder and her bright green eyes looking at her worriedly. Anna sighed and sat back against the wall, giving her niece a weak smile.
"I'm fine, sweetheart." Anna whispered, closing her eyes.
"Are you sick Auntie Anna?" She asked, coming a little more into the bathroom and looking disgustedly into the toilet.
"Just a bit, love." Anna chuckled and held her arms out for Evangeline. Evangeline obliged and sat down next to Anna, leaning her head on her chest and letting her aunt hold her.
"Does Uncle Kristoff know? I can make you some tea if you want." She offered innocently, eliciting a chuckle out of Anna.
"No that's very sweet of you but I'm okay. I'm….not really sick. I'm just…." She stopped, not finding the right words to say. She really didn't want anyone to know but Evangeline was the closest she could get to Elsa. Plus she was the only girl there besides herself.
"You're just…?"
"Eve, I'm pregnant." Anna said barely under a whisper.
"….Oh." Evangeline said. "Are you sure?"
Anna laughed. "Of course I'm sure! It was confirmed."
"But aren't you like…old?" She was scared to say, but did.
"Oh gee thanks Eve. I'm only thirty-five." Anna snorted. "I'm still capable of having children."
"I'm sorry Auntie Anna, I didn't mean to insult you I-"
Anna just hugged her. "It's perfectly fine." She smiled. "I understand what you were trying to say."
Evangeline nodded.
"Eve….you've…uh….had the talk….right?" Anna asked nervously.
"Yes! Ew. Please. Just…let's not ever talk or speak of it. I would like to keep my innocent mind…innocent." Evangeline said quickly, shivering at the thought.
Anna laughed. "Well…it wasn't planned…and-"
"That's quite enough!" Evangeline shivered. "I get it."
"Good! Phew!" Anna said, wiping off pretend sweat off her forehead. "Just…don't tell anyone. Only your mother knows."
"I won't…but why not? It's exciting!" She smiled.
"It is…but…you'll understand one day when you have children. Sometimes…it's hard to bring up and I need your mother here to help me."
"…..I miss mommy." Evangeline said looking down.
Anna sighed and pulled her niece close, holding her and kissing the top of her head. "I know baby….I miss her too. I just want them all to come home."
"I miss Bella and Danielle too." Evangeline whispered.
Anna rubbed Evangeline's shoulder in a comforting way and lifted her chin up so she was looking her in the eye. "They're fine Eve. I'm sure they'll figuring all of the trade out and soon, they'll be home safe and sound."
Evangeline nodded and rested back on Anna's chest. But she knew that wasn't so. She knew something was wrong…someone was hurt.
Elsa was pacing.
The girls hadn't come back that night. It was one thing not to show up for dinner because they were in town, but they hadn't come back to the castle at all that night before and no one in town had seen them. Not only was Elsa afraid that she had lost them or that they got hurt, but she had made a promise to Kristoff and Anna that she would keep Christabel safe. She had broken her promise.
"Elsa….you never know maybe they did come back and-"
"Well they didn't show up at breakfast nor did they come to lunch! The staff hasn't seen them and neither have the townsfolk!" Elsa snapped and ran a hand through her hair.
"Should we go look for them?" Leia asked quietly, afraid of saying something wrong.
"Yes. Yes, we have to go look for them….yes…." She paced.
A knock at the door broke Elsa's concentration and she went over to it, answering it.
"My Lady, her Majesty has arranged a horse-in-carriage to take you around town to look for Princess Christabel and Lady Danielle." A servant told her.
Elsa shook her head and waved her hand. "No I do not have time for that. I shall take a single horse myself and look."
"But your Maj-"
"I shall look on my own!" She almost growled.
The servant nodded and quickly walked away, probably scarred for the rest of the day.
"Elsa I'm going to help you look." Leia said and stood up, getting a bag together.
"What makes you think you're coming with?" Elsa asked and grabbed the bag from Leia.
"This is my daughter we're talking about! This is just as much of my responsibility as yours!" Leia raised her voice, snatching the bag right back.
"No!" Elsa snatched it back. "I cannot be worried about you out there too! You're staying here and keeping an eye on everyone. I do not feel comfortable with these servants."
"How dare you tell me what to do!" Leia yelled angrily.
"I am your Queen, get used to it!" Elsa retorted.
"My Queen? You may be my Queen in Arendelle, but here in the Northern Isles, you have no power over me! You are simply Elsa!"
"No power over you?" She smirked angrily. "I have more power over you than you think!" She yelled and raised a hand, ice just about to shoot out of it but Leia ducked before Elsa could release it completely.
Then she looked at her hand in fear.
Leia covered her face and slowly moved her hands away from her so she could see Elsa who was already brimming in the eyes with tears, staring at her hand in complete shock. Ice began to spread up and down the walls sending an angry chill throughout the room. The ice crackled up the walls and formed into a snowflake over the ceiling of the room. Leia shivered at the chill. She continued looking at Elsa who was slowly backing into the corner of the room, her eyes looking every which way in horror at what just happened.
"Elsa…calm down….you didn't hurt me…." Leia tried comforting her, slowly walking towards her with one hand out, not so much as protection….but more as stability.
Elsa shook her head quickly. "N-No…st-stay back….please." She whispered fearfully and her hands balanced herself on the wall, only causing that one spot to shield over in ice. Elsa winced and backed away from that wall and to the other end of it.
"Elsa please….I know you're scared….but….we need to keep our heads." Leia said and nodded, trying to calm Elsa down the best she could. And that was hard.
"No….no…conceal, don't feel….conceal…don't feel, don't feel!" She mumbled to herself, wringing her hands together and pacing the length of the wall. "I-I can't!" And with that, she took off, out of the room.
"Elsa!" Leia called after her and ran in the direction her sister-in-law was going.
Elsa picked her dress up and bolted down the hallway, ignoring the confused servants and the other royals, a trail of ice following behind her, giving Leia the perfect guidance.
Conceal, don't feel. Conceal, don't feel. Conceal, don't feel. The mantra coursed through her head, herself unable to even look back.
There was no looking back.
Elsa found her way into a room and she quickly closed the door, locking it and resting her back on the door, panting heavily. She soon came to realization that she had been crying when she looked up and forward into a mirror. She then turned her head and saw another wall of mirrors, then she turned her head the other way and saw more mirrors.
Slowly, she released her back from the door and took a few steps into the room. The whole entire room was covered in tall, cryptic mirrors, each one staring at her the way she was staring at herself. She looked down at her hands once again, angry…spiteful.
You damn hands…
Looking up again, she looked at her reflection on all four walls, turning her body around over and over. She couldn't escape it. She couldn't escape looking at the monster she believed she turned herself into.
The mirrors have glass…..glass impales.
She closed her eyes and shook her head.
You have a family.
She clenched her fists and brought them to her head, closing her eyes and tears unwillingly streaming out of her eyes. She shook her head multiple times, trying so desperately to get these thoughts out of her head. It was horrible enough hurting her best friend and sister those many years ago….but now her sister-in-law too? Elsa couldn't shake the feeling that something worse was happening. Something she never wanted to come. Her inner demons were haunting her.
….Perhaps another Great freeze was in store for the kingdom of the Northern Isles….
Maybe not.
"Let. Us. Out!" Danielle screamed as she constantly banged on the door, Christabel watching helplessly behind her.
"Danielle forget it he isn't-"
"The hell he isn't!" Danielle yelled back at her, turning away and trying at the door again.
Upstairs in the work area of the store where he did his blacksmithing, he could hear the girls screaming and pounding at the door, so he lit his metal on fire and began using the hoe to morph it into the shape he wanted, but he used heavy metal and hit the metal extra hard to make a loud noise.
Sweat poured from his face as his heart beat ten times faster. Not only was he worried someone would hear, but if his daughter was here….then her mother would have to be here too. He knew Leia would recognize him in a heartbeat and that's what he was most afraid about. He didn't love her. He didn't and never did. She was a toy to him and they both knew that so there was no easing her into believing he cared for her because he didn't. However….he was massively attracted her to her. After all, she was beautiful.
"Excuse me?" A young voice said from the front of the shop.
Johannes's heart stopped and he looked up to see a young woman…not Leia. Phew. He wiped the sweat off of his forehead and faked a smile, relieved however.
"What can I uh…what can I do for you?" He asked almost painfully but still with that smile.
"I was wondering if you made rings?" The young, brunette lady asked in a gentle tone with a genuine smile on her face.
Johannes, being to overcome with emotions, shook his head. "All out."
The young woman nodded. "Oh….well thank you anyways. Perhaps I could-"
"I said no." Johannes confirmed more forcefully.
The young lady wasted no more time and quickly walked back out, letting Johannes sigh in relief and continue with the metal, hitting it as hard and loud as possible.
Back downstairs, Danielle had been on her knees, her head resting on the doorway with her hand still on the knob, she cried silently. For many reasons actually. First of all, she missed her mother and father desperately. She just wanted to be held by them, to hear them say her name or that they love her. Instead, she was trapped in a smelly supply room, call it what you will, with someone who she thought hated her at this point. Second, she was in danger. Unfortunately, it wasn't just her that was in danger. She feared for all of her family at this point.
Fighting with Christabel, however, was the worst of it for her. Christabel was her best friend after all….
"…..I'm really hungry." Christabel cracked the ice.
Danielle chuckled a little and sniffled. "Yeah…" She breathed. "Me too."
"I think I should eat you first if it comes down to that." Christabel smiled.
Danielle looked at her and gave her a small, sad, smile. "I'd taste bitter, considering that's what I am."
Christabel rolled her eyes and stood up, putting her hands on her hips just like Anna would when she was trying to prove a point.
"You aren't bitter; you're just a jerk sometimes." She said, popping her hip to the right and crossing her arms.
Danielle sighed and sat with her back against the door, resting her forearms on her knees. "I hurt you emotionally now though."
Christabel shrugged. "So did I. But it's fixable….we just really need to work together to find a way out of here."
"Do you…do you think my mom and Aunt Elsa are looking for is Bella?" Danielle asked like a scared little girl. Christabel frowned and walked over to her, plopping down right next to her and grabbing her hand.
"I have no doubt love. Aunt Elsa and Aunt Leia are strong. Hell, they could save the whole world if they put their minds to it. I'm sure people are looking for us right this second."
"But what if they're not?" Danielle whispered, afraid of the answer she was hearing in her head.
"I can't answer that….because I know they are…..they have to be."
Danielle looked down and sighed. "I just…don't know what this man wants. How…how does he know me? How does he know us? And….and why do I know him so well I feel...?"
"Maybe you're a psychic." Christabel shrugged.
"Ugh, I'm serious!"
"Okay, okay, look….maybe you do know him. Have you seen him in Arendelle before? He knows Aunt Elsa and my mom apparently….maybe you should ask them!"
"Gee that would be amazing if oh, I don't know, we get the hell out of here!" Danielle said sarcastically.
"Alright….dumb question…"
"I think our best bet at the moment is to scream….make noise, you know? Someone has to stop in here and hear at least a little."
Christabel nodded.
For the next ten minutes, the two girls banged on the door and walls, screamed over and over that they've been kidnapped and need help right away. While one screamed and banged, the other would look for a way out and vice versa. They couldn't find anything to escape from so they kept on with the screaming and banging. That is until….
They heard footsteps…heavy footsteps…
Then there was silence on both sides of the door….heavy silence…
"Get back." Christabel whispered so quietly that Danielle barely heard it but did as told. The two girls stood in the middle of the room now….breathing silently but heavily, praying for all to be well. Then they heard it.
The breathing.
The two girls intertwined their fingers and watched the door like nothing else in the world mattered at the moment.
Then the door flew off its hinges almost hitting the girls but they jumped on opposite ends of the room just in time before it could do so. Both on the ground groaning in pain, their hearts beat and their minds raced, realizing the horror that they were about to face.
As if he knew right away where she was, Johannes charged at Danielle and lifted her up onto her feet by her neck, pushing her back and slamming her upper back into the hard wall behind them. Still in chokehold, Johannes squeezed her neck as right as possible.
"SHUP UP! SHUT UP RIGHT THIS SECOND BEFORE I KILL YOU RIGHT HERE!" He screamed, his hands completely dirty and his face dripping with sweat. His eyes were dark and dangerous and the veins in his hands and arms were protruding even more as his grip on her slender neck became tighter.
Danielle couldn't breathe a single breath. Her hands were tightly gripping his forearms and her face was turning crimson red and purple. She couldn't even cough. Her breath was being taken away right before her and he was too strong to fight against. She felt herself dying slowly….her mind starting to daze and her legs completely numb and weak, losing circulation because his grip was so strong. The only thing Danielle could see at the point was his face. His horrible, malevolent, monstrous face glaring at her and intimidating her. She closed her eyes. It was too painful to look at it. Now she couldn't see anything.
Her world went black.
