Chapter 55
Santana beams proudly as her son steps forward into her awaiting arms, the toddler collapsing heavily into her embrace, tired out from his hard work. He grins toothily at his Mami and happily accepts the high five from Quinn, unsure as to exactly why they're so happy but knowing it's because of him in some way.
"Good job little man!" Santana cheers, pouting her lips and chuckling when he leaves a wet open mouthed kiss on them, a chubby hand on either side of her face.
"You're such a big boy now" Quinn coos, stroking his hair and kissing his cheek. Caleb buries his face shyly in Santana's chest, embarrassed and confused about all the attention he's getting from his parents and his grandparents who smile from their place on the sofa. They look up as the front door opens and Olivia and Owen trudge inside, their noses red and snow flakes in their hair. "Hey guys" Quinn smiles. "Did you have fun in the snow?"
"Yeah, we made a snow lady" Olivia smirks and Santana glances out of the window, rolling her eyes when she sees the snow lady, complete with boobs and strategically placed chips from the driveway.
"Olivia... there's kids on this street" Santana chastises gently, despite the smirk that tugs at the corner of her full lips.
"I know Mami, I'm one of them" Olivia retorts with exaggerated innocence, turning to look up at Owen with a sly grin on her face, the boy refusing to goad Santana and keeping his features schooled. The latina smirks when she realises he's still scared to piss her off after the drawing on the closet door fiasco that happened years ago, only just realising that he's actually only a few inches shorter than her now. She tries to work out if Olivia is just really short for her age or if Owen is just really tall; it's both.
"You'll need to be more careful" Carlos tells her with a grin, "Especially now that your little brother will be able to run around after you" he adds and Olivia's face falls.
"He walked?" she asks quietly as Santana and Quinn share a look, Carlos immediately feeling guilty while his wife sends him a look of disapproval. "That's awesome!" Olivia cheers, her face splitting into a megawatt grin. "Good job Caleb" she smiles, kissing her little brother on the cheek. Her parents share a look of relief, glad that she isn't too upset about missing the toddler's first steps. "Is it okay if I go to Owen's house?" Olivia asks.
"No 'Liv, in here or in the yard. You're grounded" Quinn murmurs, refusing to feel bad when her daughter pouts. They were being more than fair by letting her hang out with Owen while she's grounded and it's only because they'll be back in New York by the time her grounding is over. "You still have uncle Noah's xbox upstairs, why don't you go play that?" she suggests, softening slightly. Olivia nods and grumbles under her breath, falling silent when she receives a warning glare from Santana and shuffling from the room with Owen to spend their last day in Lima with her best friend.

Quinn lets out a silent sigh of relief as she closes the door behind her and toes her heels off. She listens carefully until she hears voices coming from the bathroom and she quietly makes her way along the hall. The blonde rolls her eyes as she hears Olivia shouting over the noise of the shower and she opens the door to the bathroom to find her wife soaking in the tub, trying to have a conversation with their daughter while the girl showers.
"Hi babe" Santana grins as Quinn walks over to her, bending over to kiss her. "Liv! Mom's home!" the Latina yells, causing the blonde to wince as her wife's shout only adds to the headache that has been developing all day.
"You guys can't talk once she's out of the shower?" Quinn asks with a mixture of irritation and amusement.
"She's my entertainment" Santana retorts, "Plus Caleb hasn't given me a second to myself since I got home from work so I haven't had a chance to speak to her. How was work?" she asks.
"Awful, my boss had a stick up his ass all day. I'll be working late tomorrow night as well so I'll have to skip dinner tomorrow. Can you tell Burt I'm sorry?" Quinn sighs.
"Sure. Kurt said he's here until Sunday anyway. I'm pretty sure he only wants to use the kids as a distraction so that Burt doesn't question him about his job" the Latina chuckles. Quinn rolls her eyes as the shower door is pulled open, a cloud of steam spreading across the bathroom and Olivia steps out, only putting her towel around her once she is out. A lack of modesty is something both she and Santana share as a trait.
"Hey mom" Olivia smiles, her face flushed from the hotter than necessary shower she had. The girl places a sweet kiss to her mom's cheek and sits on the edge of the bath. "Mami and I are gonna watch the Lion King, you wanna watch it with us?" she asks.
"Sure baby" Quinn smiles, happy to watch it even though Olivia has made them sit through it dozens of times in the past, the girl able to say the dialogue along with the movie. "I'm gonna go get changed and I'll meet you guys in the livingroom" she smiles, leaning down to kiss the top of her daughter's wet head. "Make sure you dry your hair" she adds.
"Your dinner is in the oven" Santana calls as her wife leaves the bathroom, vaguely hearing her muffled response. "What's the matter with you?" she asks Olivia, flicking some of the bath bubbles in her direction.
"Is Mom okay?" the young girl asks softly.
"Yeah babe, she's just tired" Santana reassures her. "Your Mom and I are good, we all are. You don't have to worry anytime one of us looks a little tired or upset, it's not gonna happen again sweetheart. Nobody is going anywhere ever again" she adds sincerely.
"You promise?" Olivia questions in a small voice.
"I promise. The only time someone leaves is when you go off to college" the latina smiles. "Go get dressed and hang out with your mom for a little, I'm sure hanging with you will make up for her bad day at work" Santana adds softly. "Things are okay baby, I promise" Olivia nods and shoots her Mami a subdued smile before leaving the bathroom and heading to her bedroom, the latina sighing sadly. She feels guilty that her and Quinn's temporary break up has affected their daughter more than they had originally realised and Santana knows that it's going to take a lot of reassurance and a lot of time before Olivia will stop panicking any time one of them has a bad day.
I had planned for this chapter to be longer but I'm pretty much falling asleep at my laptop and I felt I owed you guys at least a small update for this so I'm hoping you enjoyed it anyway. Please let me know what you think and thank you for reading :)
