Week 3, day 2:

Chapter 54: Our World Around The Bonds:

By the time the pact had gotten out of the Recce Squad's sight, Neku sighed "The Recce Squad huh? Does Sanae know about this?"

Pork City was indeed their location.

Neku could see the main building of the district clearly and a vivid memory took his awareness. He remembered the first time he came here, with Joshua. They had to erase the 'Grim Heaper', the nickname they gave to Sho who was the Game Master at the time.

But… that was the day when Joshua seemed to have been erased by him. Yet, he wasn't.

Finally Neku noticed that his fists were clenching upon anger, so he shook them a little then faced his partner, Yukiko "Haven't been here for awhile. Brings back memories for me…"

"Feh, don't make me wallow in your bliss." the slightly spiky pale golden orange haired teen looked as through she was ready to kill him the moment he turned his back, her irked tone made Neku frown "Or… your petty grudge." Her very dark brown eyes labeled ebony sharpened as she glanced at him "Heh, don't think that I am one to bring tolerance to one I hate as well."

Was she talking about… Joshua?

A swell of irritation boiled in his veins as a notion that Yukiko right now could be searching through his entire mind to scrounge up anything to bring against him.

Before opening his mouth to speak she cut him off in a low voice "Don't you dare ask that question…"

Neku bit his lip, he knew which one she was referring to: 'Why do you hate me?'

'I can't ask that question. Clearly she hates it.' Yukiko seemed to be focusing on the area around them in trifling marvel, 'But maybe there is one question I can ask, it may be indirect to what I am seeking but it could help…'

"What were you doing at the WildKat Café, on the day of our deaths?"

A glimmer of hope flared within Neku as Yukiko opened her mouth but then vibrations and jingles ceased Yukiko's voice, with a sigh Neku took out his old fashioned blue phone.

A new text message was there.

So Neku read it to himself: Rise to the top and soar to victory. You have t-180 minutes. If you fail, face erasure by the Reapers.

He closed his phone right away and looked at Yukiko, who had her eyebrows furrowing as she seemed absorbed in the text message. To Neku, there was a flicker of shock within her expression but there was a clear heedful nature to it as well.

That expression wasn't something that Neku never knew that Yukiko would show.

When he caught her eye, all of the attitude she was expressing vanished, "Do you like gawking at people, Sakuraba? Because, it's damn pissing me off."

'There it goes.' he sighed closing his eyes wishing silently that she would soon reveal what he was seeking ever since they met. Hence that, he looked away to the building he had been to only once as he muttered "Gaining respect involves eye contact."

"And respect for me isn't, moron!" her eyes darkly blazed as she gave a hot puff of air before she looked away from him with a loud snort "I bloody do not care if you drown, or fade… because the day I grow spineless, you will squeal mercy to your bloody alive friends."

She stormed off toward the way to Dogenzaka, not caring or was spooked by the fact that Noise could erase her.

Neku Sakuraba, will never gain her respect.

Spineless tosh twits would fall blind to that, and she wasn't a sucker or a bloody dope to be reckoned with it. The many words to describe this, was interminable.

Just as she passed into Dogenzaka, she was knocked back was a unseen force. This caused the pale golden orange haired teen to plunge to the ground, pain crushed into her side as she let out a sharp gasp of air.

'Not. A. Bloody. WALL!' without warning she threw herself at the wall and bashed it many times through her anger and her large dark grey gloved fists, a diamond patterned wall flashed each punch she gave. And it hurt each time she clouted.

But she didn't care.

The genetic red hoodie Reaper watched her with little interest before he went on guarding the wall.

It was until a split second of even worse pain surged through her hand, she only tried to suppress a gasp only allowing a little noise to be heard.

Her horrific lucky timer had returned, it read: 02:58:45.

Yukiko summed it up to be at least 2 hour and 58 minutes, she had that much time to figure out the mission and fly through it as quick as she could. But there was only one problem, Neku. She had no time to waste with someone pretending to be like a detective, unenlightened to the truth she had to offer.

Nothing.

Not an opinion to share.

Exclusively, when she detested him to the grave.

Literally.

And she hated the Reapers' Game, Reapers, the Noise, Darlene Tyann, the Conductor, and the Composer.

As soon as she punched again, she kept her fist on the invisible Wall as a diamond patterned part of it stayed. She lowered her head wheezing when a thought occurred 'But… I don't hate Ayumu…'

She pulled her fist away from the wall to see that Neku had caught up to her; he had a calm look to him as he coolly asked, "So… you like venting your anger on the Walls?"

"You rather have it that I do the same to you!?" Yukiko had no softness when it came to Neku; he pissed her off every moment they spent together.

His reply was plain "No."

"Then get out of way and leave me alone!" she lashed at him with her fists and he merely took steps back slightly alerted but calm, her ebony eyes narrowed as she grunted "Or, if you have a bloody idea what the mission means."

The headphone teen gave her a glare as he kept his distance "We can tell it has to do with going somewhere high up."

"Ya think so?" jeered Yukiko with a roll of her eyes; she folded her arms.

Neku pulled off his headphones "Ugh… Can we just do the mission?"And it wasn't Neku, could only shrug as she growled "Alright, but I have one rule for this." Neku rolled his eyes sighing when she spat "You. Will. Not. Order. Me. Around. At. All." With a puff of hot air she placed her hand on her chest, a tinge of anger split through her because someone had taken her pendant.

And it wasn't Neku, sadly.

The oddest thing was; she had no clue to where she had gotten the first half of the pendant.

With a long sigh she growled, "Ok, where're we supposed to go?" she looked around tapping her foot "The bloody mission is too…"

"Vague." said Neku calmly as his blue grey eyes met her ebony eyes.

She gave a puff of hot air before she snapped "Yes! Who did the damn Conductor choose for a Game Master this time, Sakuraba."

Luckily she received this info from the mind and knowledge of her partner.

The indigo headphones on Neku's neck sagged as he took a step forward before he twisted his head to a nearby building "No idea. But I think he or she is following the old way of giving missions." he blinked and turned his head to her "Almost two months and a half ago, when I was in the Reapers' Game there was vague given missions like this. Whoever the GM is, they must have been in the UG for a long time or so…"

"Thanks for the history lesson, Sakuraba." she sneered curtly turning her head away, the bright orange haired boy looked at her annoyed as she scoffed "If I wanted to be taught this, I would have erased you a long time ago."

"You can't erase me." Yukiko raised a eyebrow as he mumbled "One of the Recce Squad members said that if any Player erases any Player, they will be erased instantly."

'Hmpt, that won't stop me,' she darkly scowled at her partner, 'And if anyone tries to end my existence because of that… I'll erase them without mercy, and hear them squeal into erasure and watch them fade with a smile.'

Neku held a stern expression as he spoke "I'm serious. Yukiko, I cannot allow you to be erased. Not, until I find the truth that you carry about your grudge against me."

'How honest and foolish…' Yukiko snorted and held her chin high, "Dream on. You'll never find it, Sakuraba."

Just as she was about to rid herself from his presence, he coolly asked when she began to walk away "Why'd you come to the WildKat Café, on the day of our deaths, Yukiko Kitaoka."

With a abrupt halt, her gloved hands curled into fists as she chuckled mockingly "Heh, why do you ask? That day serves no purpose to why I hate you."

He gazed at her through frustration "There has to be a reason… To why you came into Sanae's café when my friends and me were there. The timing was too perfect Yukiko…"

"Feh," she turned her head a little to look behind herself at Neku "Nothing. Zilch. I had one reason to go there, it had no bloody purpose for you or anyone… but myself. I hadn't eaten for four days, and I had limited yen. So, I was hungry. I had to eat something. To survive… in this bloody dull world." with a snort she jeered turning around to glare darkly, "Hah! Do you appreciate that my petty answer gave you nothing?"

"No, it gave me something." his reply was weak and pitiful to her.

'How stupid can you be!? Wanting to just know why I came to that stupid café that had bloody him and those bloody fools of pals he has!' her heart brimmed over and fuelled her anger, 'How can this fool be so spineless and trusting when the world crashes down on you. The world crashes down on me! Always has, always will… You can never trust someone in this bloody world! I hate the world, and it will fear me…'

Ayumu stared whatever it was, his heart felt like 100 daggers were stuck into his chest where his heart still beated normally.

But he felt… scared… Yes, he felt scared… And he was happy he could feel scared at the same time too, because for the last almost three years he had no emotion.

He blinked with a sigh; he was sitting on a chair. And could tell it wasn't glass, because it felt smooth and when he knocked on it… it sounded like wood.

When he was younger, the chairs and tables were glass.

And he remembered why Sanae switched the old chairs and tables to wood; Ayumu himself broke the tables and chairs through a fit when he was younger.

From his ponders while being back in the place he hated so much, he heard a girl speak in a soft whisper "Will that boy be alright, Sanae?"

Earlier this morning he found out her name was Shiki, when he tilted his head to look in the direction of her presence he saw her soft green aura that he could tell where her body was with his psychic powers.

"Oh, Ayumu…" this time it was Sanae, he sounded humble as he seemed to be doing something that he once told Ayumu was 'cleaning cups and dishes' "From what he's been through… he needs seriously, R and R."

Ayumu blinked as he thought 'Yeah… I guess so… But, I don't want it. Nix, never, not now… I don't want to be stuck in this café that fumes with grinded coffee beans 24/7. I want to be back in the UG, with my friend! Yukiko! Yuki…' he couldn't stop recollecting the events that happened two days ago. Joshua, sending him back to the RG. He wanted to be revived like he told Yukiko… But, this was too soon. He never said goodbye to Yukiko or everyone else. It pained him to think and sit here, while Yukiko and the others stayed in the UG doing missions without him.

Before the Reapers' Game, he had no purpose but to live in a world where everyone ignores you despite the endeavors you try to connect with people. And also, a world, where he had no friends…

He blinked and found he had been resting his head on the table subconsciously; he sighed and kept it there.

Exhaustion was pulsing throughout his whole body, Ayumu tried to ignore it.

The UG, changed him.

"Bu' 'nough 'bout that!" Ayumu heard Beat bickering fiercely and it sounded like he had jumped onto a table, so Ayumu raised his head again to see his green aura on what he thought as a table while Shiki sat there as a red aura watching him with a amber aura sitting across from her that he recognized as Rhyme "Mr. H, tell us what 'appened when we were missin'!"

Ayumu had to put his arms on the table to keep himself from having his head fall onto the table, he watched as Sanae walked over that Ayumu saw as purple aura while Yori walked alongside him seen as cyan aura "Okay, relax. Hehehe… As much as we are excited to talk in a circle again, I'd say I want to give you the option… Good news or bad news?"

Yori joined the three former Players by taking a chair to sit beside the younger girl who looked like she was between 10 and 13 who he learned was Rhyme and the 15-year-old girl known as Shiki. They said nothing as Yori narrowed his eyes, 'Would that Beat dude get off the table? I now have to wash that table again.'

Beat punched at the air as he shouted and started stomping, "Yo, I ain't want a question! I want to know why we disappeared in the firs' place?"

Before he could speak more Shiki gasped, "Beat! You could break the table" the golden blond looked ready to protest when small hands tugged on his shorts.

When he looked down his younger sister, Rhyme gave him a smile and spoke "Beat, Shiki's right. You'll hurt yourself more than your honor." Yori's pale blue eyes widened as Beat scratched the back of his head as Rhyme added "And I think Yori here doesn't want to deal with your muddy tracks on the table."

Yori looked away as both Shiki and Rhyme laughed happily when Beat seemed to shield himself from a invisible force while he yelled out in dismay "Bwaah! Whoa!" suddenly he waved his arms wildly and fell backwards onto his chair roughly.

Everyone stood up and the chairs were pushed back, they all went over to Beat who lay sprawled on his chair that broke in half while moaning in pain "Ugh… That hurts yo…"

Rhyme instantly leaned down and tried to help her older brother up, "Are you okay Beat?"

Beat did a nod with another moan of pain "Ow… I think so Rhyme…" he winced again gasping "Ow!"

Yori went over and grabbed his arm while Rhyme held onto the other "Uh… It looks dude that you hit your spine hard, maybe you should lower the level of your… err… arrogance…"

"Yo, you tryin' to pick a fight with me?" snapped Beat as he tried to swing a punch at the 18 year old who cringed to avoid the blow, but Beat instantly winced from the pain and his arm went limp, "Ow… This bites, an' hur's man…"

As Sanae took over in helping Beat on the side Rhyme was on, Yori noticed that Ayumu was watching them silently and sightlessly with his weird blind pewter eyes. He wondered how Ayumu was, because Ayumu was acting odd.

When Yori was in the Reapers' Game, Ayumu was only calm but now… Yori felt that the younger boy teen had bottled emotions in him ready to explode.

Once they brought Beat to a nice couch that Yori found yesterday, he quickly walked over to where Ayumu was sitting and sat down "Hi Ayumu." slowly Ayumu looked at him blinking as he spoke hoarsely "Hello, Yori."

Yori had to wince, Ayumu's tone made him feel that Ayumu was depressed or sick.

"You seem… taller…" Ayumu's statement made Yori chuckle a bit sheepishly, 'Whoa… How can Ayumu tell that? I know he's psychic but… that seems impossible.' Ayumu tilted his head to one side as he spoke a bit like he was insulted "I can tell… By your red aura, Yori. Red like fire, fierce as you are bold."

He scratched his russet hair as he sighed, he pushed back his glasses before he mused "Yeah, this is my real appearance and age. Kind of why I seemed a bit too smart when I looked like a 12 year old."

The petite blond did a nod as he mused "Yep… You wanted to be a kid again because of the hardship you were having with your girlfriend, and the fact that you missed the old days when you were one. You didn't want to have responisbillity for what was pressuring you so much."

"What a mouthful!" exclaimed Yori raising his hands as though he meant to gesture 'stop', "You seem like you can read me like a book, Ayumu."

For a few moments the petite blond looked at him until he suddenly exploded into laughter "You wish! Ahahaaha…" he laughed for awhile earning stares from everyone else while Yori was freaking out a bit by how Ayumu was reacting "Gah! How's that so funny, Ayumu! Jeez…"

Still Ayumu laughed and clutched the sides of his ribs as he laughed harder "You're smart, and book has knowledge! Ahaha…"

He soon stopped and panted, tears from the side of his eyes rolled down. Then after a few more moments his eyes lowered in a desponding expression, he sighed and closed his eyes "I…"

Suddenly his head hit the table and rested there, and soft sobs could be heard muffled from Ayumu.

Yori stood up in alarm as he exclaimed "Ayumu! What's wrong? Oh dear!" he looked at Sanae as he called "Mr. H! What did I do wrong?"

Sanae came over scratching the back of his head and he took his sunglasses off when he leaned down to look at Ayumu's face, "Let me see…" Yori felt his heart race as Rhyme came over to stand beside him and asked "Mr. H, is something wrong with Ayumu? He looks, miserable…"

The owner of WildKat Café didn't respond and kept inspecting Ayumu.

Shiki came over hugging a handmade cat that she called Mr. Mew as her dark amber eyes softened "Um… let's give him some space."

Yori felt that they should, so all of them went over to a table far away nearby the couch that Beat lay on moaning in pain still. Once they sat down Rhyme spoke "That boy… Ayumu, right Yori?"

In response he nodded "Yeah, Ayumu Ki."

"It looks as though he's hurt from the inside, somehow I feel like that's how he is feeling." murmured Rhyme as she played with her golden blonde hair that wasn't consealed by her black cap with the white skull, her bright blue grey eyes flashed with concern as she went on "I got no idea of why he might feel like that… wasn't he calm mostly during the World Wide Reapers' Game?"

Yori nodded and mindfully explained, "Yeah, when I worked with him… he seemed very calm, collected, and confident. Nothing seemed to faze him, nor get him out of line. But now… I can't say. The World Wide Reapers' Game hasn't broadcasted since the day I came here."

"Every time I watched him on T.V," suddenly said Shiki somber as she hugged Mr. Mew harder "I felt a mysterious presence emitting from him. Like sort of a feeling that you want to learn about a person you just met, and that he was hiding a hardship or a precious secret…"

When everyone gave her a confused expression she waved her hands blushing "I mean! I felt that way when I met Neku!" Yori felt more confused, 'Does she like Neku? In a way that I feel towards… Sammy. Sameko…'

He could hear Rhyme giggling while Beat hide a smile, 'They undoubtedly have the same theory I have…'

After what seemed to be minutes, or at least a hour or so. Sanae came back, showing a somber expression as he spoke before Yori began speaking "You did nothing wrong to Ayumu, Yoriro."

Everyone gave him a queer look and he shrugged "Meh, what's wrong?"

"Um…" Shiki looked at him blinking "I always thought your name was just Yori?"

Yori sighed and looked at the table "My parents always wanted a girl, but they got me, a boy. They still wanted the name Yori, but it had to be more masculine to work out... so they added 'ro' to the end. Everyone just calls me Yori, but I think they just forgot the 'ro' part of my name because they wanted a girl, not a boy. You can call me Yoriro or Yori if you want."

For a second silence fell over everyone making Yoriro feel uneasy, then Rhyme nodded and chirped "Ok, Yoriro. But I would rather call you Yori."

Yoriro nodded, he never told anyone his real name was Yoriro until now.

She giggled a bit as she looked at Beat tilting her head to one side cutely "Well, I know we can call Beat by Daisukenojo if he wanted us to. Right, Daisukenojo?" Right after that they heard Beat scream "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" then he passed out.

Yoriro flinched as he remarked "Wow… That's a very long name, no wonder he wants to be called Beat. At least almost all of us have, shorter names huh?"

Each of them looked at each other than laughed. Beat soon woke up to find everyone laughing and sulked "What's so funn'? My name?! 'Tisn't, bwah… yo 'tisn't my day…"

The russet haired boy recovered from laughter then turned to Sanae and nodded "So what's wrong with Ayumu then?"

Sanae had his sunglasses off still when he sat down "Ayumu must be feeling down from being alive again. Considering the length of time he has been in there…"

"Huh?" Shiki stroked her hand across her chin length brown hair as she adjusted her glasses a bit, "Hasn't he been in there a week more than Yoriro?" Right away everyone cringed when Sanae shook his head, Shiki spoke again in alarm "Ah! How long has he been in the UG, Mr. H?"

"By what I remember, three years if you round it up."

Yoriro opened his mouth in a gape exchanging looks with everyone.

"Why?" asked Rhyme calmly as she looked at Sanae with her bright blue grey eyes.

"Ayumu can tell you if he wants to." said Sanae glancing at Ayumu who was looking in their direction slightly, "Don't pressure him into it."

Yoriro leaned back on his chair as he spoke "I'm fine with that."

Rhyme nodded as well "Me too."

Shiki and Beat looked like they disagreed to it, Shiki was biting her lip while hugging onto Mr. Mew more while Beat snorted as a pained expression flashed across his face. It was Shiki who first spoke "Shouldn't Ayumu feel happy that he isn't in the UG anymore? That is a bit too long to be in there…"

Sanae slowly smoothed his black hair that gel held up in a mohawk, "You can say he's been in there long enough to call it home, in his case he might of grown fond of the laws over the time he's been there. Especially if something there was important to Ayumu, and he is yearning for it now." after a pause he added "Plus, the sad part is… I don't think anyone would remember him; he wasn't really cherished or had friends like you guys now are for Neku. Like Joshua, he's been alone for most of his life."

Instantly Yoriro noticed that Shiki, Beat, and Rhyme had tensed, each person showing uneasiness in their expressions.

"Don't compare me to Yoshiya." slowly Yoriro turned his head to look at Ayumu who just spoke, a chill ran down his spine when he heard Ayumu's dark tone. Right then Ayumu scowled at them and got up stiffly, he blinked as he snapped "I'm nothing like him!"

The owner of WildKat frowned as he got up and turned around to face Ayumu "Calm down, Ayumu." he was about to say something else but it seemed to Yoriro that Sanae was lost for words.

Ayumu hung his head as he muttered "I'm not like him, I don't want to be like him, and I don't want to be his half brother no longer." he turned around and quickly left the café "Leave me alone, CAT." The door was slammed after he left, and silence filled the café.

Shiki gasped as she exclaimed "He's Joshua's…"

"Half brother." finished Rhyme as she sadly looked towards the door.

Yoriro nodded as he mused "Even though I met the Composer once, I wondered if he did have family. But to think it was Ayumu…" he hung his head as he added "But now that I think about it, during the 7th day, when I first saw the Composer. He was mostly looking at Ayumu, and now know why, I saw sadness in his gaze."

Beat was about to say something but he winced from moving "OW!"

Sanae was silent as he put his sunglasses back on, his dark brown eyes half closed as he turned to everyone "Don't judge Ayumu for being Joshua's younger half brother." then he looked at Yoriro "Go after him."

Yoriro got up instantly and protested "But Sanae! Isn't better to just… let him roam until he calms down?"

"But Ayumu may not calm down. His nature has always been the moody type." said Sanae sadly before he added "Also, Ayumu won't be used to being in the RG and the laws here. Go after him, he may become calm if a friend is with him."

Right away, the russet haired teen sighed, "Let me get my coat."
