Chapter Fifty
Eric POV
"It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life!" Pam yelled not caring Father Riordan was with us. "Eric, have you lost your fucking head?"
"Pam," I warned her, telling her that we were in the presence of a priest.
"What, Eric? I am sure is not the first time he hears that word, don't worry. Have you two gone completely insane?"
"No." I replied dryly.
"Eric…this is…what the fuck is this? Because I assure you that I have no idea how you could have thought about this. It's dirty and uncomfortable and I don't think any sane woman would be willing to accept this." She said firmly. "Well, maybe Sookie." She added rolling her eyes.
"Sookie does not know a thing about this and must remain a secret until Sunday, okay?"
"Are you really serious about this, Eric?"
"Completely."
Pam huffed, groaned and cursed but I finally managed to her to take care of everything and I could not be more grateful. Yes, the idea had been mine but I wasn't good at team work and I was sure I'd have gone insane if I had to organize everything.

"Hey, you're here!" And Sookie threw at my arms, kissing me passionately. "I'm so glad you're here."
"What is it, baby?"
Sookie huffed and pouted. God, she was adorable. "Pam and Amelia don't let me back out into my backyard and I've been forbidden to open the curtains in the kitchen until Sunday." I could not help chuckling. "No fair! It's my wedding and I should be allowed to see and do anything."
"I know, baby." I didn't want to upset her so I agreed with her all the time. "But look on the bright side," and Sookie glared at me as if I had betrayed her, "if you cannot see anything right now, it'll be a great and unexpected surprise on Sunday."
"That's what really scares me." She admitted. "Those two women are capable of doing anything and I don't trust a lot in Claude. I dunno, I think they're hiding something from me." I coughed slightly when she said that she suspected something was going on but I had to pretend.
"Are you okay?" she asked me when I stopped coughing and cleared my throat.
"Yeah, I'm okay." God, this was going to be more difficult than I thought at first. "I think I had something in my throat. Hey, my parents are about to come so I'll change my clothes and pick them up at the airport."
"I'll go with you."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I can't do much more in this house with Hitler and Mussolini giving me orders all the time," she said about Amelia and Pam and rolling her eyes, "so at least I'll leave home, distract me and we'll see your parents. Then we can go for a walk through the town and hopefully when we get home I'll be too tired to argue with Pam." I liked the plan and the idea of Sookie out of home so everything could be ready. It was a perfect plan.
"It sounds like a plan."
Okay, at least I was sure Sookie had no idea what was happening in her backyard. Yes, a lot of people were preparing a wedding but they had been very careful not to reveal the main detail. I wanted to be a surprise for her, something special to make her see that I really cared about our relationship more than anything else.
Sookie seemed nervous and although I knew she worried for everything, I was worried that the stress could affect her or our baby. I had said to her many times but as always Sookie just rolled her eyes, puffed and convinced me that she was fine and the baby would be a paranoid anyway so no need to worry.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"I can't wait to see them again," Sookie said as we waited for the doors to open and people started to leave. "I miss them." I raised an eyebrow in surprise. How could she miss them when she barely knew them?
"What?" she asked me confused. "I like your parents, they're great and I'm so glad they're going to be in our wedding so you can stop looking at me like I was crazy, okay?" I couldn't help laughing aloud. Sookie was nervous, like a kid on Christmas morning.
"I know you're excited, lover, but don't expect them to run towards us with open arms. Public displays of affection are not their strong point."
But I couldn't be more wrong.
"Sookie, Eric!" My mother yelled when the doors opened. Of course there were more people in front of her but she did not care at all. She got his way, even using her elbows to get to us. "Dear! I'm so glad to see you both," and she hugged us tightly. "My God, I missed you so much, really, I couldn't stop thinking about flying to Los Angeles to be with you but when we received the news of the wedding…I could hardly believe it."
My father appeared minutes later, carrying two suitcases and rolling his eyes when saw my mother hugging nonstop Sookie.
"Hi Dad, how was your flight?"
He put the suitcases on the ground and hugged me. God, I could even count on the fingers of one hand the times my father had hugged me and this was one of them, the more special.
"I'm glad to see you again, son," and he hugged me again.
"Me too, Dad."
I helped him with the bags and left in the car but instead of going home we went to eat something.
"Sookie, my dear, you look beautiful and wonderful."
"Thanks, Vera." Sookie replied, blushing. "But I believe the wedding nerves are affecting me too much."
"Nonsense." And my mother took Sookie's hand. "It's completely normal to be nervous before the wedding but I assure you that everything will be fine and happily married soon and in your way to your honeymoon."
The food was great, we were all hungry, especially Sookie and had a great time. If someone had told me a few months earlier that I'd be eating with my parents as a normal family I would never have believed. But it was true, there we were, our family eating together and couldn't be more grateful. It had been thanks to Sookie, my fiancée, my future wife and mother of my children.
"Well, I think we should look for a hotel," said my father, but Sookie cut him off before he could continue.
"A hotel? Nonsense. Come on Jesper, you're not serious." My father was surprised. Surprised? Nothing seemed to surprise Jesper Northman but Sookie had managed. "No. You cannot go to a hotel when we have a house in Bon Temps."
"But Sookie…" but my Sookie cut him off again.
"But nothing! Listen, it's a huge house, it's been in my family for generations, and there is place for you two." And then it hit me. My parents in the same room? But Sookie reacted quickly than me and said. "Well, there's a spare room but we can fix it and everyone will be comfortable."
"Don't worry, dear," said my mother, "Jesper and I are two adults and we'll be able to share a room."
"Are you sure?" I asked her before I realized the words were out of my mouth. "I mean, you two…you know, it's been a long time and…well, I don't know if…" I was speechless. What more could I say? I was surprised and confused at the same time but it was strange to see them together and happy after so long.
"Eric, we'll be fine." My father said.
Yes, we'll be fine.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"Pamela!" my mother yelled from the door and Pam ran to her, her expensive shoes clicking until she was in my mother's arms. "Honey, you look beautiful as usual."
Pam hugged my mother tightly. I had never seen Pam so excited about anything or anyone, but it was different with my mother. She never knew her mother and her father died when she was 22 so my parents were like her family.
"Vera! I'm soooo glad to see you again. It's been an eternity. Jesper, I'm glad to see you," and hugged him. God, what about hugs? It seemed that everyone needed to hug someone. "We have a million things to talk about and I have to introduce you to someone very special."
Sookie POV
Spending the day with my future family was great, as if I had a huge family again and couldn't help being excited. I'd almost cried when I saw Jesper and Vera at the airport but fortunately I held the tears well enough that nobody noticed.
"It's great to have you here, really Vera, you don't know how I've missed you." While the men had gone out to buy something for dinner Vera and I were at home drinking tea and chatting. Amelia and Pam had gone as usual during the last few days so we were alone at home. "I've been very nervous and when we decided to go to Bon Temps to be relaxed and found there was no church…God, it was as if suddenly everything was against us."
Vera smiled sweetly at me and took a sip of her tea. "Sookie, things always seem worse than they really are but when we are under pressure it seems impossible to see a solution. But I'm sure this wedding in this beautiful backyard will be wonderful, you know, like a dream come true." She put her cup on the table and took my hand, gently caressing it. "I do not want you to worry about anything, okay? Because my grandchild needs a relaxed mother." She said laughing and made me feel much better.
"Thank you, Vera." I said sighing and caressing my flat belly. "Sometimes I forget my life has changed and I have to think about this little baby now before doing anything but there have been so many problems in the last few months that I couldn't just enjoy it. I want a normal wedding, that's all."
"And you'll have."
I always thought I was lucky with my Gran when my parents died because I could talk about anything with her, even telling her my secrets, but until I met Vera and started talking more often I had not realized how much I missed having a mother. Yes, Vera Northman was not only going to be my mother-in-law, was also going to be my mother.
"But they've spent many things that I still do not know anything. Tell me, who has managed to tame that beast of Pam?" she asked me and started laughing nonstop.
The truth is when I met Pam, I really believed there couldn't be a person able to stand her but Amelia had done it. I had no idea how she did it but Pam looked like a completely different person, at least outside of work, more…happy.
"Well, I don't really know much than you," I began saying, "but the truth is they're very happy and I'm happy for them." They had finally found happiness and that was the important. "Amelia is my best friend and we lived together in this house before leaving to Los Angeles but she didn't seem be able to find what she was looking for. She dated a lot of men but they were all losers and her father wanted her to marry the son of one of his friends but she couldn't stand it and that was one of the reasons she wanted to go to the large city."
"Wow…I cannot believe it." Vera exclaimed, smiling. "If I had done something like that to my father I think he would have locked me up for the rest of my life."
Chatting with Vera made me feel much better, made me forget about the madness that was taking place in my yard but Amelia and Pam appeared at that moment and sat on the couch with us.
"Amelia Broadway…" Vera said. "I love the name."
"Thanks," Amelia answered softly. "It was my mother's maiden name and I never wanted to be known only for being the daughter of Copley Carmichael so I decided to start using it when I was a teen."
"Copley Carmichael?"
"You know him?" Amelia asked surprised. "Well, I'm not surprised actually because my father is known by many people but most of the time the reason is not exactly the better."
"I don't know him personally," Vera said. "Jesper told me about him sometimes, that's all."
Talking, laughing and telling stories of youth. That's what we did until Eric and Jesper walked into the living room but before they did Amelia went to her bedroom and came back with a shoe box and put it on the table.
"Sook, we know you have everything ready for the wedding and although we haven't even seen the dress, we believe too much in tradition and I think this is one of the most important."
"Ames, what are you talking about?"
"You'll understand in a minute." Amelia glanced quickly toward Pam and both nodded. "Sookie, you have something old and borrowed," and looked directly at Vera, "the brooch of your future mother-in-law, which is beautiful by the way." And Vera could not resist a small smile. "You also have something blue, this beautiful engagement ring Eric gave you but something new is missing."
"Something new?"
"Yes, something completely new and spectacular." Pam added and I suddenly worried. What the hell they were talking about?
Before asking Pam opened the box and I saw a pair of amazing bridal shoes that were…Oh my God…, I didn't even have the words to describe them. They were the most beautiful shoes I had seen in my whole life.
"Oh…my…God…" My eyes began to fill with tears but I blinked them away. "What is this?"
"Well, I think it's pretty obvious." Pam said, rolling her eyes. "They are a pair of Dior peep toe with diamonds on them." Diamonds? Had my bridal shoes diamonds?
"Pam…tell me you're kidding, please. Tell me they're not real diamonds."
Amelia, Pam and Vera laughed like teens at my incredulity.
"Sook," Amelia said, taking my hand, "those shoes are our gift. Pam and I personally chose them because we wanted you to be really beautiful and when we saw them, Pam decided to order them especially for you on your wedding day and we hope you can keep using them for a long time." I was unable to control me and practically jumped off the couch and hugged them both.
"You are the best friends in the world!"
At that moment the door opened and Eric and his father came in laughing.
"No!" Amelia yelled. "Wait a minute! There's something you cannot see yet!" Pam quickly closed the box and ran upstairs to their bedroom.
"What?" Jesper asked sitting next to Vera.
"Pam and Amelia have given their gift to Sookie and it's something that cannot be seen until the wedding day."
I'd always had problems getting used to receive gifts but when I saw the shoes was like I couldn't control myself. They were beautiful, as taken from a fairy tale and I knew they were the perfect for marrying Eric. Yes, they were just shoes but the most beautiful I'd seen in my life and the fact that two people so close to me had gifted them to me made me feel special.
"Are you okay?" Eric asked me when we were in bed. Yes, it was the night before our wedding and the bride and groom should not normally share a bed but we had our run of bad luck so we decided the best way for both of us to rest would be together. "I hope they're tears of joy because otherwise I'd be worried."
I sobbed, but smiled broadly. "They are. They're tears of happiness because I cannot believe we're getting married tomorrow. All my friends will be here, your parents, Ames and Pam, my brother…I dunno, I just can hardly believe it's finally the day."
"Not yet but I won't be here tomorrow when you wake up," and I looked at him frowning, "probably because Pam, Amelia and my mother will have kicked me out." And we laughed together.
"I love you, Eric."
"I love you both of you," and he kissed my belly and my lips.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
No dreams, nightmares, or concerns. Nothing. Nothing at all. That's how I woke up the next morning with a huge smile on my face when I saw a note with my name on it on Eric's pillow.
My lover,
I can not wait to see you dressed in white like the angel you really are.
Take care of yourself and that little Northman growing inside you and don't make me wait too long.
I love you.
E
How could a simple note made me feel so good? Just the fact of reading those words made me realize the happiness in my life since Eric Northman was part of it and I got out of bed with energy and no nausea for the first time since I was pregnant.
"Good morning," I sang when walked into the kitchen and saw Vera, Pam and Amelia drinking coffee and eating breakfast. "It's a beautiful day, isn't it?" I sighed happily and didn't even bother me that I couldn't drink coffee.
I wasn't nervous, I was hungry and wanted to start preparing myself as soon as possible so when I drank my tea, a couple of buttered toasts and scrambled eggs, yes I was hungry, we got upstairs to my bedroom and while Pam was in charge of my makeup, Amelia was working on my hair and Vera was making sure the dresses were perfect.
Two hours later my hair and makeup were spectacular. My face kept its natural look but my eyelashes were long and beautiful and I loved it. My lips were perfect and my hair was…absolutely great. Amelia had done a great job with my hair, an informal bun with my natural curls adorning my face and I wanted to mourn when I looked myself in the mirror.
"If you're going to cry I advise you to think about it carefully because if you screw up my makeup, I will kill you." Pam threatened me. God, I loved her sincerity.
"I am not going to cry." I said firmly. "It's the happiest and important day of my life and I'm not going shed a single tear."
Vera hugged me lovingly, but carefully not to damage anything, and the four of us were grinning. I could not believe the day had arrived and within hours I was about to get married.
"Well, it's time to dress."
Their faces lit up instantly. The dress was my surprise for them. I had managed to keep it secret for the past few months and although it seemed impossible I had achieved it and was proud for it.
"I hope it's spectacular." Pam hissed. "For your sake." She added with a wicked grin.
"I assure you all that is amazing and when I saw it I couldn't think of anything else over the next two days. I saw it online but I knew it was the right one so I got in touch with the website and bought it."
"Did you buy a wedding dress online?" Amelia asked surprised. Perhaps it wasn't the most normal thing but I wasn't going to tell them everything I had to do to get the dress of my dreams.
"Yes." I answered without elaborating.
"I'm dying to see." Vera said excited.
"All right. But you have to leave, I want it to be a surprise."
Pam was not willing to give up easily but time was running out against us and Amelia convinced her.
I took the dress from the closet and placed it on the bed. It was weird so much things had happened since I left this house and see that beautiful wedding dress after all these months I was dying to wear it and my eyes were filling with tears.
"Don't cry. Be brave, Sookie, be brave." I muttered to myself and I took off the robe. I was wearing the lingerie I had chosen especially for the wedding night and I was sure Eric was going to hallucinate.
I threw the robe to the floor, not caring at all about it and began to dress. I felt like a princess in a fairy tale and when I looked myself in the mirror, I wanted to cry, again, when I saw it was exactly what I had wished. The dress was a work of art and the shoes were fabulous. Everything was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
"You can come in now!" I shouted through the door and a second later Amelia walked into the bedroom and stood with her mouth open.
"Sookie…my God…you…you look beautiful." Amelia was crying. Great, just what I needed. "You…you're amazing."
Pam and Vera seemed speechless and I did not whether to be worried or surprised or both. "Well, are you two going to say something? Because it's my wedding day and I'm supposed to feel like the luckiest and beautiful woman in the world but if you're not going to say anything I'll end up feeling like a fool so…" I was talking nonstop but fortunately Pam cut me off.
"Sookie, you're stunning." Pam said.
Hearing those words from Pam's mouth was awesome and I suddenly felt much more confident of myself.
"Vera?" I asked.
"Sookie," she said as walked towards me and put her arm around my shoulders, "you look beautiful. You are a vision and I assure you that my son will be speechless when he sees you."
"Really?"
"Of course. I have never seen my son so absolutely in love with a woman before and that's something that fills me with happiness." I was really trying to hold back the tears but it was becoming harder and harder. "Sookie, you are the kindest person in the world and you managed what I waited for so long. He's found the path and joined us as the family we once were. I love you as if you were my own daughter, Sookie, and I can't wait to become a grandmother."
"I love you, too, Vera."
I really thought I was crying but when we pulled away and looked myself in the mirror saw that everything was perfect. Otherwise Pam would have killed me for destroying her work of art but did not say a word so I knew everything was under control.
"Okay, enough of tears," Pam said breaking the silence, "we have a wedding to assist and the three of us need to get dressed so everyone out. Now. Let's leave Sookie alone to relax."
"Okay." Amelia said. "Sook, I just have to put on the dress and I'll be here in two minutes, alright? I want to be with you all the time."
"Me too."
Ames kept her word and before I realized she had returned to the bedroom and was working on her makeup. Her hair was amazing and the dress was beautiful, although when I told her, she said the only people would look at would be me.
"Are you nervous?" she asked me when we were face to face. In the end we were both alone, as it must be. My best friend, my sister with me on the most important day of my life.
"I thought I'd be," I answered truthfully. "I dunno, I thought I'd be nervous about marrying Eric but this morning when I woke up I felt great and couldn't wait until the time came."
"I'm so happy for you, Sookie, you are so lucky."
"We are very lucky."
"Yeah. You'll marry today with the man you love, surrounded by family and friends and going to be a mom…" Suddenly she looked sad.
"Ames, are you okay?"
"Yeah," she sobbed but there were no tears in her eyes, "sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me." I wanted to know that. She and Pam seemed really happy together. "It's as if I had the feeling that I'm going to lose you."
I chuckled remembering the same conversation when I told her that I was going to live with Eric. "Ames, you're not going to lose me. I'm getting married and starting a family but you and Pam are our family and we'll always be together. I swear it."
"I know. That's why I feel like an idiot right now. The fact you're going to marry doesn't change anything."
Fortunately I managed to calm her down before Pam and Vera returned 'cause it was the time.
Yes, I was going to go downstairs and walk into the kitchen where my brother would be waiting for me to take me to the altar. The altar, where my Eric would be waiting for me to become my husband.
"Ready, honey?" Vera asked me, pulling me out of my reverie. She was smiling at me the whole time and I smiled back.
"Ready."
Bill POV
"I'm so fucking tired of this shit! Bill, I want to stop this, now! I can't keep seeing him with that bitch…" Shannon was completely insane but I wouldn't let her to spoil everything. "If that little slut thinks she can take away what is mine…"
"Shut the fuck up!" I yelled and grabbed her wrist. "Don't ever talk about my Sookie in that way, do you understand me?" Sookie was a good girl, she just needed to remember things were not exactly what she expected.
"Let me go!"
I released her wrist but I just kept glaring at her. "Bill, they're gone. Do you realize what that means? The two of them have gone off from Los Angeles and we have no fucking idea where they may be. How can we find them?"
"Sookie and Eric are getting married, we already knew that but we thought they were going to do it in Los Angeles but they're gone." I was tying up loose ends and with Shannon around me was impossible to focus. "Sit, damn it!" Shannon snorted and dropped herself onto the couch. "We have to think like them. Sookie's never been a big fan of large cities and she'd love to keep her family tradition so she would never marry in Los Angeles."
"And where are they going to get married?" She asked disinterested. "Eric Northman is mine and I won't let…"
I raised my hand and stared at her, "Be careful what you say. You and I have fucked a few times but I assure you that you're not what I'm looking for."
"Yeah, of course not. You're fucking crazy for that blonde."
That blonde was mine, she was in the past and would remain in the future so I wouldn't let anything or anyone to stop me to get back what was mine.
"Where are they, Bill?"
That seemed to be the big question and it hit me then. I knew exactly where they were and wanted to kick myself against the wall for being so stupid. Bon Temps. That damn town that neither one of us we should have gone from. If Sookie had been a good girl we could be together now as a happy marriage with precious babies all around us. But no, she had to go and everything was Amelia Broadway's fault. She got all nonsense into Sookie's head when I was about to recover her and now bastard Eric Northman had tricked her into marrying him.
I was not going to allow it. No way. Sookie Stackhouse would me mine again and I was willing to do anything to get her.
"Bon Temps." I whispered.
"What the fuck is that?" Shannon asked as she lit a cigarette. "Is a fucking word game?"
"No, bitch." And she glared at me. "It's a small town in Louisiana. Sookie and I were born and raised then so I'm pretty sure they've gone until there to marry."
I had no doubt so I quickly got up off the couch and bought two tickets in the first flight to Shreveport. If Sookie thought her wedding was going to be special I wasn't going to disappoint her.
Eric POV
I was finishing tying my tie in front of the mirror and wishing the wait was over to see my beautiful Sookie arriving. I wasn't nervous, I was happy and excited and impatient. I could not wait to see her dressed in white, walking toward me with a huge smile on her soft and full lips. She would be an amazing vision.
But what I really expected was to see her face when she saw all that I had prepared in the backyard. I kept thinking about the surprise I had organized and a part of me was nervous for Sookie's reaction. I wanted everything to be perfect and hoped that I had managed.
"Do you need help?" my father asked, startling me. "Are you okay?" He added chuckling.
"I was thinking, that's all."
"Nervous?"
I was not. I knew I should be, because everyone is nervous moments before to get married but for some reason I wasn't. I couldn't stop thinking about the time we were husband and wife and if someone like me, a man who had never thought before of marriage, was going to marry the most amazing woman in the world, I wasn't nervous. I was excited and counting the seconds remaining to get down to the backyard and wait for my beautiful bride.
"I'm fine."
"No need to pretend, you know," he said, chucking. "I was scared to death minutes before marrying your mother. Your grandfather threatened me saying that if I ever hurt her, he would kill me and hide my dead body where no one else could ever find it." Great. That was exactly what I needed to hear before my wedding.
"Dad, why are you telling me this now?"
"Because it's your wedding day, it'll be the most important of your life, well until the baby arrives, but it'll be a day you'll never forget and you're going to marry an amazing woman so I suggest you not to be an idiot and making her suffer because she will forgive you, I'm sure, but she'll never forge." My father giving me a speech? I had never heard one of them but I was going to do it now.
"Dad, I assure you that I have no intention of hurting Sookie." And he smiled widely. "She's the woman of my life. I've…I've been waiting a long time for her and I feel my life is complete now. Sookie was the missing piece and the puzzle is complete now."
I felt like a romantic pussy saying all those things to my father, comparing my life and relationship with Sookie with a fucking puzzle but it really was true. I felt complete now, I felt fine for the first time in my life and I owed everything to her.
I used to think money, parties, sex and women were the best in the world, the only thing for I lived and enjoyed but I hadn't realized how empty my life was until I met her. She was the woman I had waited for all my life and although we started our relationship in the weirdest possible way I couldn't imagine my life without her, much less marrying another woman who was not Sookie Stackhouse.
"I've never seen you so happy before," my father whispered. I wondered if Jesper Northman had a sensitive and vulnerable side that he never showed anyone because I had never seen it. "I would had loved Jonas was here with us. Married to a good woman, with children and being with us in this important day."
Jonas was here. My brother was here with me. I could feel it although I couldn't see him but I knew he had never left completely. He had never had the chance to live and experience anything beyond his teens but the night he died I made myself a promise. I would live for both of us and I had kept my word ever since.
"Jonas would be proud of you, Eric." My father said firmly. "He always had faith in you, a lot more faith than I ever had and I realize now that he was right all the time about you." I could not believe I was hearing these words from my father's mouth but they were getting at me. "Jonas always knew you'd be a winner and I'm ashamed of having doubted you during these years because deep down I was proud of you."
My father's sudden confession left me speechless. What could I say? Did he expect me to say something or was just a personal reflection? My father and I never understood each other but I always respected him. I thought Jonas was his favourite and I couldn't compete with him, especially when he died because I knew I could never take his place. I didn't want to but I craved my father's attention.
"You've become a great man and I'm proud of you for it." And he hugged me. Of course it wasn't the first time he hugged me but I was surprised to see him so excited.
"Love you, Dad."
"I love you, too, my son."
We pulled away and breathed deeply and for the first time I realized we looked like the same. The same gestures, same look and the same smile. Yes, I couldn't deny I was Jesper Northman's son. The proud son of Jesper Northman.
"Are you ready?" he asked me when we recovered from the father-son time and I sighed heavily and nodded. "All right. Let's go."
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I had stepped down the stairs in this house in Bon Temps many times but none of them was as special as this time. I was in my way to the altar, who knew? To meet the woman of my dreams and make her my wife.
"Jason? What are you doing here?" I asked him when I saw him pacing in the kitchen. It seemed he was the one who was going to marry.
"I'm…I'm waiting for Sookie," he said breathlessly. "She…she hasn't come yet."
"Jason, you okay?"
"Eric, I'll be outside," my father said and left us alone.
"Jason, what is it?"
He looked surprised for the question. Our first encounter was not exactly what I had expected but I was willing to make the effort to have a good relationship with my future brother-in-law so that was what I was doing.
"I'm nervous." And I arched my eyebrows in surprise, thinking about why he would be nervous. I should be nervous because it was my wedding day but I was relaxed and the last thing I expected was that my future brother-in-law was nervous. "I dunno, I don't understand, I ain't the one getting married." I nodded vigorously. "But can't help it. I think I'd never expected this to happen, you know, my baby sister marrying and me being the one taking her to the altar but…here I am with a great suit," he said, caressing his jacket, "waiting for Sookie to get downstairs to marry you and I don't even want to threaten to kill you if you hurt her."
I couldn't help chuckling when I heard the last part because I knew Jason was talking quite seriously. "I don't know man, this is pretty weird and I just want to Sookie's here, telling me everything's gonna be okay and there's a big party later 'cause I really need a beer right now."
"Me too." I wasn't sure which part I was agreed with but everything sounded great at the time.
"Are you nervous?"
"No." I said no more. "I'm eager to see her, eager to marry her and spend the rest of our days together. Eager to start a family and come here to spend summers in this house because I assure you that I want my children to grow up in a place like Bon Temps."
"Really?" Jason asked me surprised. Maybe it wasn't something special for him as he was born, raised and spent his whole life here but I was in love with Bon Temps. It was here where Sookie and I fell in love with each other and it was in this house where I said that I loved her for the first time and those memories would never be erased from my mind no matter how many passed.
"Really."
"Jason, are you ready?" Sookie yelled from one of the rooms upstairs and I smiled widely.
"Yeah, Sook!" he answered shouting. "Come down here before the groom goes running!" He added laughing and patted my back. "You better get out of here before she walks in. I'm sure she will kill you if you see her before the wedding."
"Yeah." I said laughing.
I left the kitchen and saw the garden fully prepared for the wedding for the first time. Everyone was sitting, laughing and talking among them and saw my father sitting in the front with my mother. Holding hands. Really? Were they holding hands at my wedding? All this seemed like a science fiction story, something out of those websites where people write stories about characters from tv shows or movies, but giving them their own personal point of view. That's what exactly the scene I was looking at in the backyard.
But I wasn't going to let anything distract me. I walked down the aisle and saw my mother wiping her tears with a handkerchief.
"Really?" I asked and she just laughed. "Mom, the ceremony hasn't yet begun."
"I know," my mother said, rising from her chair and adjusting my tie. "You're so handsome, honey."
"Thanks."
"But the real star is up there and you're going to have your mouth hanging open when you see her. I swear it." No doubt. One thing I was sure about was that my Sookie will leave everybody present, including me, with their mouths open. She was always beautiful but with a wedding dress on she would be stunning and I was anxious to see her.
"I know, Mom."
I had to admit it. Pam, Amelia and Claude had done an amazing work and the plan I carried out with Father Riordan was something that would add another surprise to this special day.
I was prepared and ready to Sookie and then the back door opened and Amelia appeared in first place with a huge smile on her face and glassy eyes. I wasn't surprised because she and Sookie were like sisters and this was an exciting day for them. She was amazing in her red dress and all men looked at her when she was walking.
Pam appeared then, dressed in black, what a surprise, and smiling but not in force way. She was really enjoying the moment and like Amelia, all men looked at her even though she only had eyes for her cupcake. Their looks were adorable but I was still surprised that Pam, ice princess, had succumbed to the charms of just one woman.
But everything else was aside when the moment I had been waiting for came. Jason appeared at the door and extended his arm and I saw Sookie's arm linked with his brother. I couldn't see her completely and although I knew it would be a matter of seconds, it was like an eternity.
Suddenly everyone was silent and Sookie walked down the porch and began walking toward me. My God…she was a vision. I knew she'd be spectacular but I certainly wasn't expecting this. It was as if the world had disappeared completely and I could only see her. Her face, her smile, her eyes locked on mine. I wanted to have her by my side, I wanted to kiss her, caress her and tell her that I loved her and she was the most beautiful woman in the world and I'd never stop loving her but she had to get to the altar first.
I was memorizing every single moment, every gesture of her face, her eyes shining and her beautiful smile. Even the way she seemed to blush when she took a further step closer to me.
They finally came and Jason kissed her cheek before giving her to me.
"Oh my God…" She exclaimed when looked around her. I knew my Sookie would notice. "Eric…this is…" Yes, it was. The whole backyard was surrounded by parts of the demolished church. The seats were blocks of the church, decorated with flowers and white cushions and the cross on the roof of the church was at the altar in front of us. Everything was surrounded by white and red roses and when I looked back at Sookie I saw her completely excited and trying to hold back tears.
"Do you like it?" I whispered in her ear although I already knew the answer.
"Eric…I…I can't…" she was breathless. "My God, I cannot believe you did all this for me." I was sure Sookie would be shedding tears if Pam hadn't threatened her for spoiling the makeup or dress but I could see the happiness on her face and that was all I cared about. "Thank you, thank you so much." And she kissed me while people around us laughed.
"I think that's the end part," Father Riordan joked and we pulled away. Sookie was completely blush but was able to hold back tears.
We chose a normal ceremony but we wanted to say our own vows and that was exactly what we did.
"Sookie, you are the woman of my dreams and the person I've chosen to enjoy every moment because you're the most special, kind and sincere person I have known and I couldn't be happier. You're not only my partner, you're my best friend and my companion and I know we'll always be together because there will be nothing and nobody can separate us. I love you Sookie Stackhouse and I promise to look after you, respect you and love you for the rest of my life. No one will love you like I do." I ended up talking and realized that I was about to cry but I wouldn't allow it. I was a man and men don't cry, right? Though I didn't cry I knew Sookie was aware how excited I was when said my vows.
"Sookie," Father Riordan said indicating she could pronounce her vows.
She breathed deeply and closed her eyes for a second but when opened them again she was staring and smiling broadly at me. "Eric, you've become the most important person in my life. I think you've been from the beginning but it took me a long time to realize," and we both smiled. "But no matter the time, just matter what you do with it. When I arrived to Los Angeles I was sure it would be the last place to find love, but I found it. I found you and although I refused to admit it at first I knew deep down that you were the man of my life. I love you, Eric and I will love you until the end."
Father Riordan ended the ceremony and when we kissed I knew everything would be okay. I was married, finally, with my Sookie and there was nothing else at the moment that could be more important.
"I love you," I whispered before we pulled away.
"I love you."
Sookie POV
It was the wedding of my dreams. It had been and when I saw Eric waiting for me I felt tears filling my eyes again but I promised myself that I wasn't going to cry. It was a happy day, a special day and I wanted it to be memorable. Of course they were tears of joy but still tears.
I had been strong when I walked down the aisle with my brother but when I looked around and saw pieces of the church decorating everything I knew it was another test for me.
I was not going to cry.
Eric had given me the most special gift you can give a person. He had picked up the pieces of a ruined church, the church where my parents got married, and he had brought them to my house for our perfect wedding. And it was. I couldn't imagine anything more romantic.
When Father Riordan declared us husband and wife I knew everything else was going to be okay. It didn't matter the problems, jealous ex-partners or that I was pregnant before getting married. None of that mattered anymore because I knew my parents and my grandparents were there with me, they were with me when I married the love of my life and that was what gave me strength when I was walking down the aisle.
I had fulfilled my dream, more or less, when I got married surrounded by the church's remains but I knew Eric would keep his promise and we would come back to Bon Temps to get married again when the church was rebuilt.
"I've been looking for you, Mrs. Northman," Eric whispered in my ear and hugged me from behind. "Where have you been hiding?"
I smiled slightly and leaned my head against his chest. "I needed a moment for me," I whispered back. "Everyone wanted to hug and congratulate me but I needed to hide for a couple of minutes."
"Yeah, me too." I turned in his arms and looked into his eyes. "You are beautiful and this dress is…" I knew he'd like it. When I saw it I knew it was love at first sight and was completely convinced Eric would think exactly the same.
"Do you like the dress?" I asked, teasing him and he just nodded. "Then wait to see what's underneath." I felt his increasingly hard cock pressing against my stomach and couldn't wait to be alone to enjoy my husband. My husband? I'd have to get used to it but it seemed still a dream. "I love you, Eric."
His lips were on mine before I knew it and it was a romantic and passionate kiss. We wanted to kiss like that when the ceremony ended, but I was sure we would have been a real show and it wasn't the time.
"Oh, this is so fucking sweet," said a familiar voice and both of us looked over our shoulders.
"Shannon," Eric hissed. What the hell was she doing here? How did she know we were in Bon Temps? "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I learned the wedding was not held in Los Angeles and I was so sad about it," she said falsely. I wanted to kill her. "I was so excited and happy for you both that I wanted to attend but I realized I wouldn't come on time." I didn't like this. Shannon Tale had no idea that I was from Bon Temps so someone had said to her. Bill had told her.
"Shannon, you better get out of here before I do something I will regret." Eric growled.
"You've already done it, honey." Honey? Was that bitch calling my husband 'honey'? Not on my wedding day.
"What the fuck are you doing here, bitch?" I yelled. I was unable to control myself and when I was going to go toward her Eric stopped me. "Get out of my house!" I whispered so no one would listen to me.
"I don't think so," she said, winking at me, "I just arrived and I missed the whole ceremony. It's so unfair." What were we waiting for? Why hadn't she gone off yet? This was my fucking house and I wasn't willing to let that stupid bitch to ruin my wedding day. "You know, I love weddings and I'm sure yours has been wonderful but I'm afraid is not going to end very well."
"What do you want, Shannon?" Eric asked pissed "This is crazy. You know there was anything between us. Why are you doing this? You're a good person, deep down I know you are but you've let yourself go by Bill Compton and that was your biggest mistake."
"Wow…please, don't try to convince me with your sweet words because it won't work." And she moved a little closer to us. Eric put me behind him and I grabbed his hand tightly. Why was I scared? "I know the kind of man you are, Eric, I've always known but after that night I thought there was something special between us," she confessed with tears falling down her cheeks.
"It's never been, Shannon." Eric whispered.
"Never?" she asked screaming. "So what does she have that I don't? Tell me!" I was beginning to be tired of this shit. "She's just a bitch who left leaving this dump town behind and went to the large city to find a rich husband." I was pissed off now.
"You bitch! That's what you've always wanted, not me!" I shouted. Nobody seemed to notice what was happening and I just wanted this woman to disappear from our lives forever. "Get out of here, Shannon! Get out of my house!"
I didn't know what happened next but all I could see was her damn smile on her stupid face and a loud noise.
"What was that?" I asked scared. "Eric, what happened?"
Shannon was laying on the ground, face down and bleeding. She wasn't moving and there was more and more blood around her. What the hell was going on?
"Sorry for interrupting." Bill.
"Compton." Eric hissed and his whole body tensed. "You killed her."
"Yes." He answered calmly. "She was beginning to upset me."
Bill raised his arm and pointed at us with the gun and before I knew my wedding was a nightmare.
Well, they didn't have a traditional wedding after all.
Thank you for reading.
