Prompt: Mick Rawson - "He's always there when we need him." - 'Suspect Behaviour'
Kurt tapped his pencil against the page of the text book he was supposed to be reading. In reality he didn't even know what subject the text book was for. Homework was the last thing on his mind tonight though. He didn't care about whether or not he completed his assignments tonight because the only thing he could think about was how to prove he wasn't the one who stuffed the ballot box for the school election.
He hated that his father didn't believe him when he said he didn't do it. That fact upset him more than the thought of getting his first ever suspension.
A knock behind him caught Kurt's attention. Looking toward the doorway, he saw his Dad sitting there.
"You got a minute?" Burt asked.
Kurt nodded, half expecting to be told he was grounded for the next month or something even if the school couldn't find any proof that he cheated. Proof that as Blaine had pointed out, wouldn't be found because he hadn't done anything.
Burt stepped into the room slowly, one hand rubbing the back of his neck. "Look kiddo, I'm sorry I didn't support you this afternoon in the office. You said you didn't stuff the ballot bo and that should've been enough for me. You may try hiding things from me, but you have never out right lied to me."
"As much as I wanted to win, I didn't stuff the ballot box. I wouldn't stoop to that level."
"I know. I guess I was surprised by the fact that you even admitted thinking about it," Burt admitted.
"I wish I did know who did it. Even if I don't get suspended over it, unless they figure out who did it everyone is always going to assume it was me."
"I don't think you have to worry about that."
Kurt looked up at his father with a questioning look.
"I got the impression that your brother knows who did it when he came to the garage to get on me about not believing you," Burt replied. "He told me to tell you that everything would be settled by tomorrow afternoon one way or another."
"He's not going to do something to get himself in trouble, is he?" Kurt asked, worried his stepbrother might do something stupid and impulsive.
"Finn promised me he wouldn't," Burt replied, his thoughts having gone along the same way his son was thinking now. "I guess we'll find out though. Again, I'm sorry, Kurt."
"Thanks, Dad," Kurt replied. Just knowing his father believed him made things better. Knowing his stepbrother was on his side was an added bonus. Even if his name wasn't cleared, things would be okay knowing his family was on his side.
He and Finn might have had their problems in the past but there was one thing he had come to know - when he really needed him, Finn was going to be there for him. After all, wasn't that what brothers were for.
