Preferred Character:
Haven't seen My Hero Academia at all, making this a case where I left the research to others for the sake of this battle. As for Miles, I absolutely loved Into the Spider-Verse and Miles' portrayal there so I wanted to see what he was like in the comics. And boy does he suck in the source material. Miles is boring, unoriginal, and none of his stories come anywhere close to the same level of quality writing that other Spider-Men usually provide, whether they be the classic Peter Parker or far into the future with 2099.
Everyone has an idol to look up to, as they serve as a role model to shape the youth into better or worse citizens. But when you actually meet them yourself, your life can change forever. Izuku "Deku" Midoriya, the high ranking student of UA Academy who fights one for all. And Miles Morales, the ultimate Spider-Man and follow up to Peter Parker. And it's my job to analyze their weapons, armor, strengths, and skills to see who would win a death battle.
Izuku "Deku" Midoriya
Background:
In an alternate world, superpowers, or quirks, are very common among humanity. Upon reaching a certain age children are gifted with one of many possible powers. Although there are those unlucky few who were affected with being just normal people due to one specific issue. Izuku Midoriya was one of those kids. But he never let that keep him down, for Izuku still dreamed of being a hero like his idol and great hero, All Might. One day he got to meet All Might himself due to needing to be saved from a supervillain. Soon after this encounter, Izuku convinced All Might that he was worthy of inheriting his strength for All Might could only stay in his hero mode for brief periods of time and needed someone to carry on for him should he ever die. After eating a strand of his hair, Izuku was given a quirk called One for All.
One for All
Stockpiles power
Transferrable to other users
Superhuman strength
Superhuman speed
Improved hearing
5-8%
100%
1,000,000%
With his one for all quirk active, Deku can turn his standard human body into that of a superhuman physique at any given time. He can't have all benefits active at once, but they are interchangeable. He can either improve his strength to the point of breaking buildings through enhancing his arm strength or increase speed to clear long distances in no time by transferring the power to his legs. This quirk can also be transferred to others, and the stronger the previous user was the stronger Deku can become. And since its previous user was All Might, Deku is pretty damn strong. The total power level of which he uses is referred to by percentage, a 5-8% boost is usually enough to get him doing. But if need be he can crank it up to full 100% power and end fights quickly, at the cost of causing self harm to himself. This isn't the extent of his power however, as by pushing it all the way to 1,000,000% Deku breaks his known limits with more recoil damage to boot. Now just to be clear, it is not actually pushing his power to 1,000,000%, it's more of a name than actual fact. But regardless, this power is incredible and Izuku can tangle with the best of them easily.
Techniques:
Detroit Smash
Delaware Smash
Manchester Smash
Delaware Detroit Smash
Full Cowling
Shoot Style
Having been trained by All Might and spending years studying how to be a hero, he is highly intelligent and has developed many techniques to try out with his incredible strength. He can punch enemies to oblivion with the Detroit Smash, create powerful shockwaves with the Delaware Smash, Axe Kick people to the ground with the Manchester Smash, and create air bullets while in his Full Cowling state. In case punching doesn't work too well he can always try the Shoot Style which prioritizes kicks over punches. His most powerful technique, however, is the Delaware Detroit Smash. While in either 100% or 1,000,000%, Deku combines both his Detroit Smash and Delaware Smash for one powerful strike that is almost always a guaranteed K.O..
Feats:
Toppled a multi-story tall robot
Defaced a cliffside
Ran 16 MPH (no enhancements)
Moved 10 meters per second with enhancements (22 MPH)
Kept pace with Grand Torino
Lept over a ten story building in seconds
Survived being thrown across a forest
Blocked explosions to the face
Survived a fall off a cliff
Izuku has been able to reach a top running speed of 22 MPH, almost as fast as the fastest ever recorded speed of a human, 28MPH. But with his leg strength increased he can clear 10 stories in a single leap within less than a second. Movement speed is not his best speed by a longshot however, as he has experience fighting on par with faster than eyesight opponents like Grand Torino. He's been punched into the side of a cliff so hard that is cratered, and then he got back up to deface the side of the cliff himself. He's dodged explosions and taken some to the face with no real issue, and has the strength to level entire buildings with just one punch. This kind of strength was demonstrated when he went full power to knock out a building sized robot out with just one punch. The resulting impact even created a shockwave which shattered the surrounding buildings.
Weaknesses:
Quirk can only last so long and cause physical strain
While his quirk can only last so long when pushing his limits, Deku usually has enough strength and speed available to finish most fights before that can even be a problem. He's excelled at UA High School and has accomplished his lifelong dream.
Deku: I'm not gonna be your worthless punching bag Deku forever...Kaachan. I'm...I'm the Deku who always does his best.
Miles Morales
Background:
Everyone knows and loves the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, who; with his incredible speed, strength, and intelligence; protects his fair city with all his might. And no matter how hard they come, he always finds a way to get back up, until one unfortunate day where Peter Parker sacrificed his life to protect all of those he loves. The world was without a Spider-Man, for the time being. Within the coming days a new hero emerged, with the same powers and abilities as the arachnid, Miles Morales. Often hanging out with his uncle, who was secretly a thief named Prowler, Miles did not want anything to do with hero work. But destiny had different plans for that once his uncle brought back a radioactive spider that bit Miles. Initially hesitant to take up the suit and responsibilities of being the city's protector, Miles eventually became the new Spider-Man.
Powers and Abilities:
Superhuman Strength
Superhuman Speed
Enhanced Healing
Wall crawling
Spidey-Sense
Venom Blasts
Spider-Camo
As a Spider-Man, Miles naturally has a superhuman build and has s couple of spider themed powers to go along with his incredible strength. He can climb on walls or hang onto them and sense immediate danger from all directions thanks his Spider-Sense. While the warning system does not automatically make Miles dodge out of the way of danger, it does give him a heads up in time to dodge point blank bullets. He's not just a standard Peter Parker clone in terms of powers and abilities, however, as Miles has two unique powers exclusive to himself. The first is a powerful electric shock called the Venom Blast. With a mere touch of his hands, he emits enough electricity to knock out even the toughest of baddies out cold. He can even make the electricity travel along his web lines if he needs to. And the second is his ability to turn invisible. With a mere thought, Miles can vanish from sight entirely and blend in to any environment. The suit itself even changes with him and naturally blends into the shadows thanks to its black and red colors.
Web Shooters:
Limited usage
Artificial webs stronger than organic
Dissolve in an hour
Can restrain Hulk
After some time with SHIELD, he was gifted with Peter's old web shooters. Thanks to them, he can fire artificial webbing that is stronger than standard spider webs, which already have a tactile strength better than that of steel. The webs can either take the form of a long string to swing with or explosive web bullets that entrap victims with entangled webbing.
Feats:
Lifted and threw a police car
Damaged the Ultimate Green Goblin
Survived being blasted through a skyscraper
Took a punch from Rhino
Tanked point blank explosions
Evaded gunfire
Weaved through multiple bullets
Matched up to Peter Parker of Earth 616
Defeated Ultimate Scorpion with venom blasts
Miles Morales has been through quite a lot since his beginnings as a hero, taking on most of Peter Parker's enemies. People like the Scorpion; whom Miles knocked out cold with one venom blast despite his taser immunity; the building destroying Rhino, and even the one responsible for Peter's death, Green Goblin. In their battle, he made Green Goblin bleed despite him being able to fall off a skyscraper with no visible injuries. He's lifted and thrown vehicles of various sizes, from police cars to pick up trucks, and has fought on par with the Peter Parker of Earth 616. One could make an argument for Miles scaling to Parker himself as they have similar enough powers, and if this is the case then Miles can come close to Peter's lifting strength of around 139 tons. He's pretty quick, weaving around and dodging bullets, and reacting to Iron Man suits in flight. The bare minimum for a standard Iron Man suit is around 500 MPH, and that's really low balling it. Explosions don't bother Miles too much, adopting Peter's ability to get up no matter the damage.
Weaknesses:
Inexperienced
The only real problem Miles has is that he is still really young, has little to no formal training, and has often questioned whether all of this hero work is even worth it. But this has yet to stop him from being the ultimate Spider-Man.
*Miles slowly gets back up after having been beaten down by Kingpin*
Miles: Have you ever heard of the shoulder touch?
Kingpin: What?
*He places his hand on Kingpin's shoulder*
Miles: Hey…
*He then zaps Kingpin and sends him flying into a wall, shutting down the machine*
The Battle:
Alright the combatants are set and all possibilities have been taken into account. It's time for a death battle!
In the middle of the city at night, a group of criminals are setting up bombs on the track to make a train crash and get easy loot. Miles soon shows up and takes out the three criminals there with a punch, kick, and web strike. He then ties them up and hangs them off the edge, turning around to try and disarm the bombs.
Miles: Alright, here we go.
He cuts the wrong wire and the bombs go off prematurely. Miles' eyes widen as he realizes his mistake and starts to frantically think of what to do.
Deku: Hey, what do you think you're doing?
Miles turns around to see the green haired student of UA High School and starts fumbling on his words while in a deepened voice.
Miles: Well...I-uh...this isn't…
A train's horn goes off in the distance as Deku attempts to create a steady bridge.
Miles: Look buddy...I got this so you don't have to…
Deku punches Miles in the face and follows up with a kick that sends Miles into a concrete pillar. Deku returns to his work, as Miles starts to move himself again.
Miles: Ok, I guess we're doing this now.
Deku's hand is caught by a web, as he is suddenly yanked back and punched by Miles. Izuku gets back on his feet and looks up in anger at the Spider-Man. Deku's leg strength is enhanced, allowing him to leap at incredible speed at Miles. The spider-sense is able to warn Miles in time, giving Miles the ability to react in time and lean back to avoid the strike. Deku lands and turns around with a backhand that Morales intercepts with his foot. They throw out three more hits that clash with each other, ending with Miles taking a step back. Deku throws out a Detroit Smash that obliterates a pillar as Miles leaps over him. Miles shoots two webs that latch onto Deku's back and pulls himself in to drive Midoriya into the concrete ground. Miles sees the light of the train approaching and gets off Deku to put the bridge back together. He takes the broken railing and pulls it up while pinning it down with webbing. It works well enough for the train to get by without falling.
Miles: *sigh* That was easy.
He turns around to be shoved into the speeding train, shattering some glass in the process. Deku lets go of Miles as the Spider-Man fumbles around with scratches on his mask from the friction. Deku punches him in the gut, and then uppercuts him through the ceiling. Miles falls down in time for Deku to axe kick him to the floor. Miles is shaking a bit as he looks down to the passing train. Deku cracks his knuckles and prepares for the final blow. Miles shoots a web that latches to the caboose of the train.
Miles: Adios!
He is yanked out of harm's way and closes in on the speeding train. He gets on it, and upon looking back sees Deku flying through the air, in an attempt to catch up to him. Miles vanishes in an instant as Deku ends up hitting nothing. He looks around confused, only made worse when he has to start fist fighting an invisible opponent. Izuku resorts to just blindly swinging at the air, much to Miles' amusement. But that laughter gives Izuku an idea of where to hit. Miles falls on his back as he reappears. Deku lunges forward and throws out his hand, stopping it just in front of Miles' face. He flicks his fingers, creating a shockwave that throws Miles off the train and into the park. Izuku lands safely, and prepares to push his limits. This time, Miles listens to his spider-sense and avoids all of Deku's attempted attacks. A train horn and faint light appear on the scene as a return trip is being made. Miles swings around with the new environment, staying in the air while continually assaulting Deku with occasional punches and kicks. Morales lands on the ground and shoots a web which Izuku catches this time. But Miles turns it against him by sending an electrical shock through the string of webbing and blasting Izuku back. Miles leaps back up to the tracks and yanks Izuku with him. He throws Deku onto the top of the train, punches him in front of it, ties his end of the web to the front, and sends Deku to the ground with a punch. The train keeps on speed, running over Deku with an explosion of blood. Miles hangs out on a perch and watches to find that Deku's body is in bloody pieces. He is clearly horrified and trying not to throw up.
K.O.
Reasoning:
While Deku had the potential to be stronger than Miles at any given moment, this alone would not net him the win. Miles had the edge in basically every way, he has reacted to similar and even faster opponents and objects, the spider-sense gave him the heads up with any of Deku's attempted strikes, he's taken similar beatings and hits, and always had his strength whereas Deku had to rely on a limited use quirk for his super strength. And Deku was not strong enough to kill Morales with one strike even if he could land a hit at all. By the way, all of this is assuming he has of his superhuman stats at once, which is not possible. Due to how his quirk works, Deku has to choose between super strength or speed, not both at once, meaning Miles would always have the edge in one or the other. Morales' venom blasts and invisibility were only the tip of the iceberg, providing even more unpredictability and versatility than Deku could even hope for. Sure, Deku might be able to win if he pushed himself beyond his limits, but it was only for a limited time and caused self harm, something Spider-Man could easily exploit even if he didn't know about this weakness. Izuku's only real advantage was his intelligence and experience, but none of that mattered when Miles was just better than him in almost every other category. This kid just couldn't spin his way out of this one.
The winner is Miles Morales.
Next Up:
This match up may be a bit of a stretch, but I love one of the characters and would just like to do something a little out of the ordinary. The captain of the straw hat pirates VS what Batman considers the most dangerous human on Earth.
