Author's Notes
Greetings! It's been so long since I have touched this fanfic (I've been working on a three-year long project, but it's finally done!) I have no clue how often I will update, but I intend to maybe write one chapter a month? We'll see. I'm currently writing my own stories and have somewhat been pulled away from fanfiction. Nonetheless, I knew many people enjoyed this one-shot series, so I made a comeback (albeit short) today.
I am open again to requests! I have a few on hold already. Please, don't be shy on dropping a few ideas to get the ball rolling. Let's all enjoy this together!
Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note or its wonderful characters.
Dear self,
It has been a very long, long time since last you thought about leaving to find L. L left for Japan and it made yourself very upset. You wonder if he left because he never liked your jam sense, or maybe the other kids were just too annoying. You could understand the last part…everyone here is kind of annoying! If only they could be normal like you!
Wide, red eyes stared down towards the scribbled creation that was his own writing. Heavy breaths caused his chest to rise and fall in slow, calm motions; right up until Beyond Birthday screamed at himself and ripped up the letter he had been writing.
"Aghhhh! BB misses L SO much!" Screeched the young man. His fingers worked on tearing the letter up into tiny pieces and he toppled backwards, head first over the back of the sofa, and began wailing at the top of lungs for what seemed like hours.
According to Near, who sat off in the distance of the room with about ten different puzzles –all of which had their pieces in one giant pile by his side—BB had been yelling for about maybe two hours before Mello appeared to shut the screaming teenager up.
"Will you just be quiet!" Climbing onto the sofa, Mello looked over with a large frown written upon his china-doll face and scoffed. "You're so pathetic. If anyone ever cried that much about me leaving, I would never come home!"
"Oh, that reminds me…" Near mumbled. "Mello, I was meant to tell you something."
"What is it?!" Snapped the blonde, head whirling around to face his archenemy. "Get it over with! I hate looking at your stupid face!"
Pulling his lips back into that eerie smile of his, Near sat up slightly and bent his arm, fingers idly playing with his curly locks of ivory hair. "You were crying in your sleep nonstop when Matt was in hospital overnight last week. Just thought you should know."
"I was not!" Mello yelled. He bounced on the sofa's fluffy cushions and made a full rotation in mid-air to face Near. "You think you're so smart that you can just tell lies all the time. Well, take this!" With a flick of his wrist, the young boy tossed the empty wrapper of his chocolate bar across the room…only for it to float down to the floor in slow motion filled with humiliation.
"Nice throw, goldilocks." Near muttered, solemnly returning to his puzzles.
With a war cry, Mello launched himself off of the sofa and toppled over Near's hunched form. The small area surrounding them went up in puzzle pieces and flakes of chocolate, along with the struggled sounds of Near and Mello clashing with their intellectual fists!
Around this time, BB had stopped his crying and had sat up to look over. His red eyes merely watched the rather violent scene; noting how Mello gripped Near's curly locks and smashed his tiny face into the pile of puzzles. Mello looked…inspirationally evil from BB's perspective. The teenager only wished he had popcorn to appreciate the whole splendour!
"What's all this?" The booming, yet terribly old, sound of Roger's voice echoed from the doorway.
"Mello started it." Near explained in his quiet, monotone voice.
"I did not!" Mello shrieked in his defence.
Matt wandered in as if on cue to lessen Mello's fury. The sight of his red hair, goggled face and his trademark stripy shirt stopped Mello from ramming puzzle pieces down Near's throat. It seemed for everyone standing in the room, it was a win-win.
Except for Near. That poor kid was covered in puzzle-inflicted wounds.
By dinner time, BB had started crying again.
"Oh, my Goddddd!" Mello groaned, raising his hands into his blonde locks and tugged against the silky strands with fury. The whole ordeal was putting him off of his chocolate pudding (and that was a serious crime!) "Will you just get over it! L is never coming back!"
A knock rattled the front door and Near's voice floated down the hallway; "L's back!"
