"Happy New Years Eve," Dani whispered to Santana, before pressing a kiss to the Latina's cheek. Santana stirred slightly, and Dani smiled. "Santana," she coaxed in a singsong voice.

"Mm," Santana mumbled, turning and looking up at her girlfriend. Dani smiled down at her, amused at the fact that Santana had no idea that by midnight, they would officially be engaged. She would have that gorgeous ring on her finger, and Dani would be able to call her fiancée.

"Good morning, sleepy head," Dani whispered, still smiling.

"Good morning yourself, beautiful," Santana returned, grinning. "It's New Years Eve!"

"Yep!"

"And we're not going to get to see the ball drop tonight," Santana muttered, frowning. Dani tried not to roll her eyes as she looked down at her soon to be fiancée.

"Babe, you'll survive. We can watch it next year," Dani told her, hoping that would keep Santana from discussing the topic. The last thing she wanted was to reveal her proposal plan.

"Wait, I thought you didn't like it? Isn't that why you don't want to see it? So why so easy to agree to next year?" Santana asked in a mouthful, sounding as though she'd been waiting for the opportunity to point something like this out to the blue-haired girl.

Dani wasn't fazed as she answered quickly, "Well, since you're going to the diner with me this year, I'll watch it next year for you."

"Doesn't the diner close at eleven tonight? I was pretty sure that's what was on the sign last time I checked," Santana said, still trying to get out of this diner trip. Dani was actually surprised at how insistent on going to the ball drop, considering how Santana would usually agree to what Dani wanted relatively quickly, especially with a compromise. Not saying that Dani had any vote over Santana. On any other occasion, Dani would readily agree to go with Santana to the ball drop.

"Nope, it closes at twelve-thirty."

"Are you sure?" Santana asked suspiciously.

"Positive. Just ask Rach. She picked up the shift," Dani told her girlfriend matter-of-factly. Santana was eyeing Dani curiously, as if trying to figure out what was going on in her mind. Dani just sat there, looking down at her girlfriend.

Santana sat up, so that she and Dani were facing each other. "Rock paper scissors?"

Dani rolled her eyes now. "You're so childish, Santana. I already made reservations. Come on, it'll be fun. We'll see the ball drop next year."

Santana pouted, batting her eyelashes at Dani, who crossed her arms. The blue-haired girl wasn't having any of it.

"You already agreed, babe, remember?" Dani reminded the Latina, who sighed.

"Yeah, I know. I was just hoping that you would change your mind," Santana muttered, frowning. Dani didn't understand why Santana was so affected by this, but now she was starting to feel bad.

Don't feel bad. Everything will be better tonight. "Coffee?" Dani asked sweetly, giving Santana an apologetic look. Santana smiled and nodded, seeming to be over her pouting, which made Dani smile.

Dani jumped off the bed and went in the kitchen to put the coffee on. Santana went in the bathroom to take a quick shower, and when she came out she poured herself a mug of coffee. Dani was already sitting at the table sipping hers and looking at her phone.

From Rachel- So looks like your date tonight is going to have to start at eleven thirty. I'll be held up tonight. I confirmed it with Gunther already.

To Rachel- Alright, that's fine. What's holding you up?

From Rachel- Quinn, surprisingly. She just came into the city today, saying that she has to discuss something important with me or something. I don't know. But I'm also in the studio today, so no time for Quinn until tonight, which is why I'll be held up.

To Rachel- Okay, thanks for the heads up. We'll head over to the diner at eleven thirty. (:

From Rachel- Great, see you then! :D

"Who're you texting?" Santana asked suddenly.

"Rach," Dani answered, locking her phone and setting it down on the table. She flashed a smile at Santana.

"What did she want?" Santana wondered, quirking up an eyebrow.

"She forgot what time she had to go into the diner tonight," Dani lied, smiling at her girlfriend and hoping that it sounded convincing enough. Although, Rachel had never had the problem before. "She's busy at the studio today, and Quinn butted in her plans, so I don't blame her for forgetting."

"Quinn? What's she doing with Quinn?" Santana questioned, although there was something off about the look on Santana's face. Like she... knew something that Dani didn't, maybe. Dani had a bad feeling that until tonight, she and Santana were pretty much going to be questioning each other all day.

"I don't know. She said that Quinn had something important to tell her," Dani answered with a shrug.

"Hm, I wonder if they're getting it on," Santana commented with a smirk. Dani's face twisted up in disgust.

"Ew, Santana," she muttered. Santana smirked again and just shrugged. "Seriously, Santana, that's gross. Rachel is straight."

"As far as we know," Santana countered.

"You're crazy," Dani insisted with a shake of her head. She took another sip of her coffee, and then slid it across the table to her girlfriend. Not that Santana needed any more caffeine.

For the rest of the day, Dani trolled the internet for managers. This time around, she found some people who looked nice and sent them emails. One of them replied to her rather quickly, around two in the afternoon, and she felt a smile playing on her face as she opened it.

Ms. Taylor,

Thank you for contacting me! I've heard a bit of your music, and I think you are an absolutely amazing singer. I just know that you have to be an amazing performer as well. I'm actually surprised that you don't yet have a manager. I'm new to the business myself, but I can assure you that I am good at what I do.

I would like to meet with you sometime soon, and maybe we can work something out?

Thank you again,

Sebastian Smythe

"Santana!" Dani exclaimed excitedly. "One of those managers emailed me back!"

"Really? What'd they say?" Santana asked, coming into the living room from the bedroom.

"He said he'd like to meet me soon, and maybe we can work out a deal. He's new to managing, but if he's good at it, I don't see why we both can't start off our careers at the same time," Dani pointed out. Santana nodded in agreement. She looked at the email, and then she shrieked.

"Holy freaking cow! Sebastian Smythe?" Santana exclaimed, gaping at the screen. Dani quirked up an eyebrow at the Latina.

"Um..."

"He's that Sebastian that threw a rock salt slushy at Kurt. Also, he just graduated last June. He's barely out of high school," Santana commented with a frown. "He can sing though. Wonder why he went into managing."

"Do you think I shouldn't meet with him then?" Dani asked, worried about how it would affect Santana and their friends.

"No, definitely meet with him. He's got a way with people, he probably wouldn't be too bad at managing a singer," Santana admitted. "Wait till Blaine hears this, though, oh my god."

Dani chuckled and typed out a reply to Sebastian.

Mr. Smythe,

Thanks for your reply! I would love to meet with you sometime soon! Maybe next week?

Funny story, I think you know my girlfriend, Santana Lopez, and her friends? They went to high school with you? Hope this doesn't change you wanting to meet with me! (:

Dani

Another email.

Dani,

Next week is great!

Oh my gosh, Santana Lopez. I didn't go to High School with them, but I lived in Lima and went to a prep school. I'd imagine you've heard some crazy things about me then.

Hope to see you next week!

Sebastian

Dani didn't reply to that one, and instead she closed her laptop and decided to see what Santana was doing in their bedroom.

She entered the room and found the Latina on the phone in a quiet conversation. Dani raised an eyebrow at her girlfriend, who held up her pointer finger as she said something into the phone. "I'm sorry again for the last minute notice. Yes, thanks again! Bye!"

"Who was that?" Dani asked curiously, falling onto the bed next to her girlfriend.

"Uh, the diner. Had to get a shift covered next week for filming," Santana answered, but Dani was sure that she was lying. Did Dani look that obvious when she lied?

"Oh, okay. What've you been doing in here?" Dani wondered, giving Santana a kiss before she let her talk.

"Running lines," Santana answered, gesturing to one of her scripts that was set on the end of the bed. "Wanna help?"

They ran lines for a good portion of the afternoon, breaking for a snack as the evening rolled in. Dinner wouldn't be smart, since they'd be eating later.

After their snack, they hung out around the apartment for a little while longer. Then Santana got a phone call from Kurt. After a brief conversation that Dani wasn't paying attention to, Santana asked her, "Do you think we can get ready now and head over to Kurt's place? Rachel is with Quinn, but we'll see her at the diner, and I want to wish Kurt and Blaine a happy New Year."

Dani was very suspicious of Santana's reasoning. Santana just randomly felt like wishing Kurt and Blaine a happy New Year? However, she didn't see it interfering with her plans, so she shrugged. "Sure."

They dressed into warm, cute clothes, before Dani made sure to grab her the ring for Santana and her car keys.

She drove them to Kurt's place, and they hung out and had some wine. Dani only drank one glass, but it was a full one, and she wasn't very good with alcohol. "Great, now I can't drive," Dani commented with a frown. Her nose was tingling from just the one glass.

"You only had one," Santana pointed out.

"Santana, you know how affected by alcohol I am," Dani countered.

Santana chuckled. "I know. Don't worry, I'll drive. I know where the diner is."

It was eleven thirty when they got in the car and Santana began to drive. Dani didn't really watch where they were going until she noticed them take a major turn away from where the diner was. "Where are we going Santana?" she asked carefully. She fiddling with the box, holding Santana's ring, in her pocket.

Dani was about to ask again when her phone rang. She answered it impatiently. Santana was going to ruin her ultimate plan!

"Where are you guys?" Rachel asked. "I'm the only one here, and we have the TV on, and if you get here any later, you're not going to make it in time."

"I know, Rach, don't worry," she responded in a hushed voice, even though she herself was worried. She hung up and found that she and Santana had just parked about a ten minute walk away from Times Square. "Santana, we're supposed to be at the diner."

"Trust me," Santana told her, turning and looking right into Dani's dark eyes with her own. Dani sighed. They wouldn't make it back to the diner in time now, not with the likely traffic and the distance in between the two locations. She might as well try to enjoy New Years with her plans spoiled.

"Fine," she agreed.

Santana jumped out of the car and opened the door for Dani, who rolled her eyes, but found herself smiling slightly. She took Santana's hand, and they hurried down the icy sidewalk to Times Square, where there were cameras everywhere, filming everything as it broadcasted live along the entire east coast.

She had to admit, the atmosphere here was amazing. People everywhere, bundled up in their warmest clothes, all waiting to give their loved ones a New Years kiss. The big, light covered time ball sat atop its pole, waiting to start its descent at exactly eleven fifty-nine. Dani remembered this from last year, and she had to admit that she was sort of glad to be watching this all again.

Santana was leading her hastily through the crowd, but Dani didn't know why. They could see the ball pretty well from any spot, but Santana seemed insistent on being closer.

They stopped in a particular area, which seemed to be not as filled as the rest of the parts of the road. Dani found this a bit odd, but the view of the time ball was amazing, so she wasn't too concerned.

She and Santana made conversation for a few minutes, but around eleven fifty-five, Santana cut off the chit chat. "Dani, I have to tell you something."

"What?" Dani questioned, confused.

"From the minute I met you," Santana started, and Dani felt her heart clench, but not in a bad way, "I knew you were going to end up doing amazing things. I heard you sing, and you sounded like an angel. I knew you were going to do great things. But I never really thought that you'd be doing them with me."

Dani's heart raced.

"I had some dreams when I met you, but now that I've been with you, my dreams feel real. They feel reachable. I'm already so much closer to success than I ever was. But you've done so much more for me than that. You've helped me through crap and drama, you've made me feel so loved."

Dani felt tears in her eyes, and her cheeks hurt from smiling so widely.

"Most of all, though, being with you has given me a huge realization. I know now... that when my dreams come true, I'll be with you," Santana stated.

The Latina dropped down onto one knee and Dani's hand went to her mouth, even though she knew it was about to happen. Her heart was souring. Her soul was cheering. Her brain had cleared its every thought besides Santana as she whispered out those words, pulling out a ring.

"Dani Taylor, will you marry me?"

Dani's heart was racing, and although it was just a second later, it felt like years that she was in that moment before answering Santana with a resounding, "Yes!" Santana beamed and slipped the ring over Dani's ring finger on her left hand, and suddenly Dani became aware of all the cheering she heard around her.

She looked up from Santana, who was standing up, to see that on a screen, where it showed the news reporters that were narrating the event of the ball drop, they were showing Dani and Santana.

It connected in her mind. Santana had been so set on coming here, and had brought her to this exact spot, which was hardly crowded. It made sense. Santana had planned this all.

Dani threw her arms around her fiancée and slammed her lips against Santana's in a passionate kiss. Santana returned it fiercely, and there was more cheering around them. Dani pulled back and just held Santana in a hug. While her lips were next to Santana's ear, she whispered, "Did you plan all of this for me?"

"Yes," Santana replied, "I'm sorry we couldn't go to the diner."

"Are you kidding? You don't have to apologize. I was going to propose to you at the diner," Dani admitted. Santana pulled back and looked at Dani with disbelief. Dani shrugged and pulled out the box. Santana's eyes widened.

"So that's why you wanted to go to the diner so bad," Santana realized.

"And this is why you wanted to come here so bad," Dani returned. She decided not to show Santana her ring, and instead save it for their wedding day. She pocketed the box, and then everyone began to cheer, but this time it was because the ball had begun to drop.

Over the next sixty seconds, excitement rose. The ball neared the bottom of the pole, and everyone began chanting, Santana and Dani taking each other's hand as they did.

"Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven! Six! Five! Four! Three! Two! One!"

The big "2014" numbers atop one of the buildings lit up, and everyone cheered and gave their loved ones a New Years kiss. Dani and Santana were no different as they slammed their lips together again, kissing fiercely for a minute until sighing and holding each other.

"This is the best night of my life," Dani breathed out quietly.

"Now I can call you my fiancée," Santana whispered happily.

"Now you're one step closer to being really, officially, legally mine," Dani returned possessively.

"As if I could be anyone else's," Santana muttered with a chuckle.

The part with the line marked where I ended chapter 55 before. But it didn't feel right to not include the countdown, so I took this last chunk off of chapter 56 and stuck it here :)
