Elphaba's broken body went rigid, and her heart thundered furiously within her chest, blood pounded thick behind her ears, and the world spun violently before her. Licking her lips Elphaba weakly stepped closer, tears shimmering like twilight within her eyes.
"Sie…Siefer?" whimpered Elphaba. Her legs trembled, threatening to give beneath her. Slowly, she extends a trembling hand out towards her lover.
Siefer stood, tall and regal before her, his face, half hidden in the shadows, masking the hideous disfigurement made by the flames of vengeance. A light breeze swept past him, tussled a few loose threads. He wouldn't move, though every muscle within his broken and burned body yearned to reach out, and touch her soft skin.
His dark, sapphire eyes drank in Elphaba's appearance, cracking his heart all the more, for she looked drained, her face drawn and horrendibly pale. Her body was thin, sickeningly thin, and for a moment, he feared for the safety of their child.
Her long raven hair tumbled over her quavering shoulders, a few lose strands billowed and swayed silently in the breeze; like raven silk, a dancer in the dark, half illuminated by the twilight of the silver moon.
Siefer's heart clenched tight in his chest, as he gazed deeply into her eyes, for they were hollow, broken, like crystal glass, empty and void of life, or light and that alone, nearly shattered him completely, for he knew where the emptiness had come from, and it only made the agony surging within him, to spike, slicing through his body and stealing away his breath.
Moaning, Siefer awkwardly stepped closer. His eyes softened, as his hand, half shrouded by darkness and shadow rose, his fingers splayed and trembled; a hidden yearning rippled within to touch his angel, to wipe away her tears and hold her tight against him, and kiss away her pain.
"Fae" groans Siefer in pain.
That did it, the silver bonds holding her in place snapped and shattered. The tears she had fought to keep at bay spilled from her eyes, burning her tender flesh, and leaving dainty little scars. Weakly her hand rose and fisted against her chest as she ran to him. A sob slipped past her trembling lips, as she crashed hard against Siefer's chest. A whimpered cry and her trembling arms wrapped tight around him.
"Siefer" cries Elphaba weakly. Trembling, she buries her tear stained face into his cloak, allowing the course material to glide across her pale skin.
Instantly, Siefer stiffened, and his heart twisted tight in his chest. He could feel her heart breaking as her body trembled hard against him. He knew his sacrifice would be hard on Elphaba, but he hadn't figured it to be this hard, this bad.
Slowly, his muscles loosened, and his body relaxed. A sob and his arms lowered and wrapped loosely around her thin waist. His eyes fluttered closed, as he nuzzled his cheek against her hair. Her scent overwhelmed him, making his head spin and his heart to quicken within his dead chest.
"Siefer" cries Elphaba. Her legs give beneath her. Feeling her body lurch, Siefer's arms tighten around her thin waist, and gently help her to the ground. Pulling away, she stares softly into his dark, sapphire eyes. The eyes, she thought, she would never see again. "How…you died?"
Wincing, Siefer's hand rose and cupped her cheek. It was then, that she took notice of his skin, or lack thereof, for the skin on his hands had been burned away, the charred remains of gnarled bones and twisted tendons remained. Only small flakes of his wonderful skin remained, small ashen remnants clinging to the body that had expired but a few hours prior.
"Sie…" whimpered Elphaba, but a voice rang out, silencing her cries. Whipping around, both Elphaba and Siefer stared back at Fiyero, standing but a foot away, the barrel of the rifle pressed hard against his back.
"One move and I'll blow your fucking head off" growls Fiyero.
"Fiyero! What in Oz are you doing!" shrieks Elphaba. Instantly her arms tighten around Siefer's body.
"Get away from him Fae" growls Fiyero, his voice dark and tinged with rage.
"Fiyero stop! Don't you see this is your brother!" screams Elphaba.
"That is not my brother…it's a thing…a remnant…an echo of the man he once was" snaps Fiyero. Oz, he knew Elphaba was lost in her despair, but couldn't she see there was no life in his eyes, no soul dwelling within the charred remains? He was but a puppet, a soulless marionette, being pulled and manipulated by an unseen master of trickery and deceit. "Fae…I know your hurting…I know you're in pain…but open your eyes and see the truth" pleads Fiyero, still refusing to lower the barrel.
"NO!" roars Elphaba. Enraged, she grabs Siefer's broken body and roughly jerks him behind her. Regally, she rises on wobbly legs, her dark gaze glares icily back at Fiyero, making him squirm beneath her heated gaze. Insanity flickered deep within the pools of her eyes, and it scared him. "I will not let you hurt him!"
Roused from her sleep, Galinda groggily lifts her head from the ground. A yawn and her hand rises and wipes the sleep from her eyes.
"What's going on?" she asked sleepily. Suddenly she stiffens as her vision clears. "Fiyero! What in Oz are you doing!?" rising to her full height, the little blonde dashes over to Fiyero's side.
"Get back Galinda" growls Fiyero. Roughly, he shoves the blonde behind him, as he takes aim at Siefer.
"Fiyero have you misplaced your mind!...It's Siefer!" cries Galinda.
"That is not Siefer!" snarls Fiyero. A click and the hammer rises and trembles. "My brother died…sacrificing himself for the woman he loved…this…is but a shell…a broken reflection of the brother I once loved"
"I will not let you hurt him!" growls Elphaba. Her hand snaps up, and her fingers curl as emerald and ebony electricity flickers across the tips of her fingers "Do you hate your brother so much…that you would ask me to step aside…and allow you to rip him away from me again! I lost him once! I shall not lose him again!"
"Elphaba" slowly Fiyero lowers the gun, the barrel hitting the ground, stirring up the dirt. "He's not here…he's dead"
"I'll not let you hurt him!" screams Elphaba. Siefer and Fiyero watch as Elphaba's body trembles violently against the riptide of emotions crashing within her fractured heart, and her body was slowly paying the price. A silent cry, a warning echoed in Siefer's ear. Her body was ready to give at any moment.
Slowly, he steps away, his hand rises and curl around Elphaba's wrist.
"Fae" gently, he forces Elphaba's hand to lower to her side. His other hand rises and cups around her waist. Gently he turns her until her dark, chocolate eyes stare brokenly into his. "You have to let me go"
"No" whimpers Elphaba. "No I can't…I won't. I refuse to lose you again!" snarling, Elphaba's hands ball into fists, rise, and bash hard against Siefer's chest as she screams out her fury and her pain. Her mind was so far gone, that she hardly paid any attention to the flakes of charred flesh, falling from his body, drifting on the tides of the western breeze.
"Fae…please" cries Siefer softly. Gently his hands rise and cup over hers, stilling her actions. Gently, he forces her fingers to unfold and tenderly presses her open palm against his chest. "Can you feel it?"
"You…you have no heartbeat" gasps Elphaba, the full reality of what stood before her, slams hard within her mind. Slowly, her fingers rise and pad up his chest. A wince spreads across her face, as the tips of her hands brush against the course remains of his burned flesh.
"There is no heartbeat…pulsing within this body" whispers Siefer gently.
"It's still" croaks Elphaba, her voice cracking slightly. Slowly her eyes drift towards his face, and winces, as her eyes full upon the opening, made by the arrow. Slowly, her fingers lift, and press against the gaping hole.
Take me down to the river bend…
"You saved me" smiles Siefer softly.
Take me down to the fighting end…
"No" shaking her head, her eyes drifted to the ground. "I cursed you"
Wash the poison from off my skin…
Gently, Siefer gathered Elphaba's hands in his, and lacing his fingers with hers, gently brought them down to his chest. His soul ached, seeing the pain shimmer in her eyes.
Closing his eyes, he bent down and kissed her knuckles softly.
Show me how to be whole again…
"You've saved me Elphaba…in more ways than one…my life was darkness…chaos…until you came and led me back to the light"
"I only brought you pain and misery Siefer…it should be me in your place…lost…trapped between the lines of life and death" whimpers Elphaba brokenly. "Cursed to wonder the lands alone"
"You know I would have done everything in my power to prevent such a fate" whispers Siefer softly. Weakly, his charred hand rises and cups her cheek.
Fly me up on a silver wing…
"Siefer please" whimpers Elphaba brokenly. Slowly her eyes lift, and shimmer in the silver moonlight. "Please don't leave me again"
Past the black where the sirens sing…
"I'm a corpse Elphaba…rotting and falling apart…my time here dwelling in this world is over…but yours has just begun" slowly his hand drifts down and cups her abdomen. "You must go on…for our child"
Warm me up in a nova's glow
"I can't…" sobs Elphaba. "Not without you by my side"
"Our child needs you Fae…to protect and love it…please…stay alive for me…stay strong…and never forget my love for you" whispers Siefer brokenly.
And drop me down to the dream below…
Nodding, Elphaba lowers her gaze, for she couldn't look into his eyes, not anymore. Pain coursed through her heart, threatening to eviscerate what remained. Her body trembled violently against Siefer as she slowly starts to step away.
A sob and Siefer pulls her against him. Gently his hand rises and cups beneath her chin. Tenderly, he lifts her chin and closing his eyes, captures her soft lips with his.
Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass…
Hardly anything there for you so see
Fiyero's body relaxes, and tears flood his eyes, watching his brother kiss his love one last time.
For you to see
Weakly, he turns away, unable to watch.
Bring me home in a blinding dream…
Reluctantly, Siefer pulls away, his hand remains cupped against her cheek, the other, slowly slides away and stills at her abdomen. Silently, he whispered a farewell prayer, to his unborn child.
Through the secrets that I have seen…
Weakly, Elphaba's hand drifts down and cups over Siefer's, and lacing her fingers with his, presses their joined hands against her abdomen.
"He will know of his father…I promise" whispers Elphaba brokenly.
Wash the sorrow from off my skin…
"I love you" whispers Siefer. Closing his eyes, he captures her lips with his. A wince, and he violently pulls back. His hand jerks away from hers and rises to his skull.
"Siefer!" cries Elphaba.
And show me how to be whole again…
"The Necromancer!" gasps Fiyero. "He's…he's taking control of him"
"Fae…kill me…do it now!" roars Siefer in pain. His skull felt as if it was being split in two. The Necromancers powers were strong, and he was quickly losing the battle over his mind and body.
"Siefer" cries Elphaba. Something hard hits her hand. Stiffening, she turns and stares brokenly back at Fiyero, standing by her side. Slowly, her eyes drift down to her hand and widens. The rifle once clutched in his hand bumps against her knuckles. Gasping, her head snaps up.
"Do it Fae…end his suffering" whispers Fiyero brokenly.
Cause I'm only a crack…
"Fiyero" whispers Elphaba.
"In the heart" gently he curls Elphaba's fingers around the trigger.
In this castle of glass…
Nodding, Elphaba pulls back the hammer of the gun.
Weakly, Fiyero steps back. A hand reaches out and cups his shoulder. Stiffening her turns and his eyes soften as he peers back into shimmering cerulean.
"Galinda?"
"Why must it be her?...Has she not suffered enough?" whimpers Galinda.
"It must be done by the hands of the one who loved him most…that's the only way to break the Necromancer's hold over Siefer's body" gently, he gathered the shivering blonde in his arms, and closing his eyes, kisses her hair.
Hardly anything there for you to see…
Awkwardly, Elphaba cocks the gun, until the smoking barrel rises and aims directly at Siefer's heart. Her fingers tremble as they press against the trigger.
"Fae…please" whimpers Siefer.
A hard sob slips past her lips. Turning her gaze away, she pulls back the trigger.
For you to see…
The loud bang of a gunshot rings throughout the forest, startling a few of the wildlife. Squawking could be heard in the distance as birds of the night, take off, their wings fluttering in the breeze.
Elphaba's eyes flutter open as silence reins. Gulping, she turns. Her body goes limp as her eyes take in the slumped form of her beloved, lying dead on the ground, silver smoke rises from his body.
"Siefer" whimpers Elphaba. Her fingers uncurl around the handle. The gun slips through her fingers and crash to the ground. Awkwardly, she stumbles towards Siefer's body and reaching him, falls to her knees.
Gently, she wraps her arms around his waist and turns him over. Tears flood her eyes, as she beholds the peaceful smile on his lips.
A hard sob and she leans down and captures his lips with hers.
"I love you"
Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
Throwing her head back, she screams out the agony ripping through her heart.
"SIEFER!" a hard tremble and she collapse on top of his chest, tears like star dust, dance down her emerald skin, and glisten in the moonlight.
For you to see
