Wow. The big 5-0. And I don't mean in cop terms. Anyways, this marks the end of the first half of the story. I did say I was going to go for the 100 chapter perimeter, as I did with my previous story Two Worlds, One Family. Hopefully, I'll get there. Also, thank you all for the +600 reviews! It means a lot, honest. But, without further ado, I present to you chapter 50 of Golden Gods.
Chapter 50: Sliver Of Hope
All of us shifted our weights on our pedes. This was becoming tedious, always responding to countless questions. But Prime's patience seemed to never run out. "We are here looking for the AllSpark." He carefully explained. "And we must find it before Megatron." We really did. We had to get the glasses quickly.
"Mega-what?" The boy squinted and looked at Optimus with a look of clear confusion.
::Perhaps if you showed them, they would understand better, Optimus.:: Ratchet said over the public comlink.
::Good thinking, Ratchet.:: Prime responded as he soon pressed his temple, and his optics projected a holographic image. Ah, so he was using the holographic emitter now. It projected the images onto the Earth's paved ground and in doing so, made the image of the pavements falling apart into a mass of heat, something orange in color. As if falling apart and into the Earth itself.
The humans were right in the center of attention, while the rest of us, either leaned on the walls or sitting on nearby shells of rusted cars, looked at Prime's presentation with no curiosity at all. We already knew what was going on, we didn't need to be reminded of it.
"Our planet was once a powerful empire. Peaceful and just. Until we were betrayed by Megatron, leader of the Decepticons." I looked away from his presentation, just in time to see Megatron throwing a spear and it slashing right through a Cybertronian's sparkhold with deadly precision. It was revolting, it was disgusting and it was real. That had all happened. It was the Decepticons' fault, this war. It was their fault I didn't have my family now. They all deserved to perish. "All who defied them were destroyed. Our war finally consumed the planet and the AllSpark was lost to the stars." Optimus carried on as I felt a soft hand over mine.
I looked to Sunstreaker, giving an upside down smile. He gripped the hand, albeit gently as he looked at me, as both of us were still leaning our frames on the wall. "I know it's hard."
"It's harder than hard."
"Megatron followed it to Earth, where Captain Witwicky found him." Optimus said as I looked back at him, gripping Sunshine's hand behind me as I scooted over closer to him, so that our frames were almost touching. Almost.
"My grandfather." The boy said in amazement at the reference being so close to him, as the girl beside him only watched with shock clear on her face.
"It was an accident that intertwined our fates." Optimus concluded, looking down at the two humans with kind, blue optics.
"I'm always here for you." Sunstreaker whispered into my audio. "It's the least I can do."
"Megatron crash landed before he could retrieve the Cube."
I looked back at my love. "It's more than enough for me." I smiled.
"He accidentally activated his navigation system. The coordinates to the Cube's location on Earth were imprinted on his glasses." Optimus finished with the history lesson as I gripped Sunny's hand just a little tighter.
"How'd you know about his glasses?" The human craned his neck up, inquiring with curiosity.
Internet, Sammy boy. "eBay." Optimus replied.
"eBay." Sam looked at Mikaela, somewhat incredulously repeating Prime's words.
That's when Ratchet wanted to add in something, silently motioning for all of us to gather around the Prime himself. "If the Decepticons find the AllSpark, they will use its power to transform Earth's machines and build a new army." He said. It was a huge deal and we couldn't let that happen.
That's when Optimus started to stand up from his kneeling position, and I hadn't even noticed he brought himself down to the ground again. We fully surrounded him, being a sort of backup to our leader as he looked down at the male human. "And the human race will be extinguished. Sam Witwicky, you hold the key to Earth's survival." Optimus grandiosely said as we all intently looked at the human. He better give us the glasses. I put my hands on my hips, Ironhide crouched, Ratchet and Jazz crossed their arms. Sunstreaker and Optimus were looking down at the humans from a height, but Bee bent over, as if giving the two humans a curious optic.
The female turned towards the male. "Please tell me that you have those glasses."
"Yeah. Yeah, they're in my room, I didn't find any bidders." Samuel quickly replied. "They're in my house." He replied to Optimus. "I don't have them here, but I have them back at my house."
"Then we will go to your housing unit." Optimus said, transforming down into the truck form as the humans could do nothing but stare in awe at him as his engine rumbled to life. The rest of us quickly followed suit.
"'Ey, where'd you two get those alts?" Jazz rolled over to us, as all of us were in our alts now. "I like them."
"We found them in a garage adjacent to the house I crashed into." I replied. Then I revved the engine as Jazz gave a howl of approval.
"I like that. Say, when we find the AllSpark, I'm getting myself one of these alts!"
"They're inferior to Cybertronian ones." Sunstreaker pointed out, parked beside me. "It's pointless to keep one of them as your alt."
"That's called having a souvenir, Sunny boy."
Sunstreaker would have probably growled at him, had Jazz not been Second In Command on Earth.
::Let's roll.:: Optimus ordered as the two humans quickly got into Bee's alt and the rest of us moved to the flanks of the dark alleyway, making room for the big bot to go through, quickly followed by Bumblebee, Jazz and then me, Sunny, Ratchet and Ironhide, in that order. We must have looked quite odd as we travelled through the streets of Tranquility.
::Optimus… Sam is saying how we have to hurry. He says there's this kind of curfew he can't break. The deadline to arrive to his home is at eleven in the evening, which is in about half an hour.:: Bumblebee said.
::Then we will make our approach posthaste.:: Optimus swiftly replied as he somehow obtained the coordinates to Sam's home.
It had been about fifteen minutes into the travel, and since we were cutting traffic whenever we could, and with the human laws meaning zilch to us, we got to Sam's home fairly quickly. Bumblebee was the first to pull up into a small alleyway, giving a rev which resounded through the neighborhood as he pulled to a stop.
As Sam quickly got out of the driver's seat and out of Bee's alt, letting Bee close the door himself, Mikaela quickly followed suit, but stood near Bee's door. "I need you to stay here, alright? You gotta stay here and you're gonna watch them." He told her.
"Yeah, okay."
"All of them, you hear what I'm saying?"
"Yeah, alright." She tentatively replied.
"Five minutes, alright?" He showed her a spread out palm, showing all five fingers of his hand as he ran beside us and through a wooden fence, which was miraculously unlocked.
"Now what?" Ironhide, all the way from the back, resounded gruffly, clearly disenchanted by this whole ordeal. We were bots for action, not sitting around in someone's back alleyway.
"Sam said he needed five o' these Earth minutes to find 'em glasses." Jazz said.
"Frag that!" He replied. "Optimus, we can't just sit around and wait and see what happens! The Decepticons know Megatron is here and doubt Starscream will come to retrieve him. We can't wait for the human to find the glasses. He must hurry."
"Whoa, what are you talking about?" Mikaela quickly rushed past Bee, Jazz and me, standing beside where Sunny was parked, looking at the Autobots in the back. "You gotta stay here, you can't move."
"Ironhide is right, Mikaela of Earth." Optimus said as she squinted at him in confusion. That much I could see in my rearview mirror and it was very amusing. "While Sam may need more time, we have to get the glasses posthaste. We do not have time to spare, otherwise we will bring harm to both of you, and not intentionally."
She took a shaky breath in as Optimus transformed, ordering all of us via comlink to transform. We did, and again I realized how puny and small the human housing objects were. "Just be quiet! Please!" She whisper yelled at us, gripping her head with her hands, ruffling her hair. It was weird, humans had these dead strings sticking out of their heads they called hair. It was fragging disgusting.
"What now, Optimus?" I asked in Cybertronian. It was natural for me, after all.
"We will enter the Witwicky property, but engage stealth mode."
"Yes, Prime." I said as Optimus slowly went over a roof of a house, the rest of us finding different ways to infiltrate their property. Some of us went over fences, others even made their own way, namely Ironhide, by crushing down the aforementioned fences. So much for stealth mode.
Bumblebee walked over and into the Witwicky property, hiding behind their house as all of us spotted Sam, talking to an older looking male. It must be his parental unit. We all edged closer, eager to see what he had been talking to his parent with, but staying out of sight and out of the humans' audio range.
At one point, Sam turned towards Bumblebee and Bee quickly put up his finger to his mouth, begging for him to be quiet. Sam talked to his parental unit about something, but I couldn't hear what. That's when Bee looked at Prime, Ratchet and Ironhide, who had been making some rather thundering footsteps. He motioned for them to cut it off and go away, but Ironhide didn't even care to shrug it off. He walked over the neat grass, creating large brown holes as he seemed to like the way his pedes sunk into the softness of the organic ground.
But then he groaned when he figured out that the ground actually stuck to his pede if he stepped on it improperly. He griped lightly about it.
"What are you doing? What are you doing?!" Sam yelled up at Optimus as he uncomfortably shifted from one part of the yard to the other. Sunny and I moved around the house, cracking the path that led from the driveway to the back entrance. Sam seemed to notice it. "No-Watch the path, watch the path!" He gripped his head as he tried to keep count on all the Autobots. "Please, please, please-n-oh no!" He cried out.
And then a cracking sound could be heard as all of us turned around to find the source of it. "Sorry. My bad." Optimus said as Sunny and I inaudibly snorted and snickered, looking through the windows and just looking at the structure in detail. It was weird. Very weird.
"Oh-I-ugh…" He put his hands underneath his armpits and huffed, looking at the destroyed fountain before him. "You couldn't-you couldn't wait for five-you couldn't wait for five minutes?! I told you to-to stay! To stay! God!" He groaned out as Sunny and I shared a look of amusements. We were soon joined by Jazz, because he too found the ordeal a little funny.
Suddenly, the backdoor opened and a rather small, four legged being ran out. "Ironhide, rodent incoming." I said as it was headed straight for him, completely ignoring the rest of us as we looked at it. "What is this thing anyway?"
"Humans call it a dog. They are pets." Ratchet said, inspecting the house.
"Dog? Weird name." I shook my head. "Hey, dog." I said, crouching down. "Dog?" It didn't so much as look back at me. "Ratchet, apparently it's not trained very well." He shrugged in turn, looking through the various windows on the second floor of the house.
A sudden whimper could be heard as all of our attention was on the source of the sound. The rodent was sent flying by Ironhide's pede. "Mojo! Mojo! Off the robot! God!" Sam yelled as he and Mikaela rushed to it. Sam picked it up, cradling it to his chest in a protective manner. The rest of the Autobots, except me, turned back to inspect the house, careful not to disrupt the remainder of the humans within it.
Ironhide groaned. "It's all wet." I snorted inaudibly, nudging Sunny on his side. He made a 'hmm' sound as he turned towards me and I pointed towards Ironhide. Immediately, my babe smirked as he and I turned our backs on the house, crossing our arms as we looked at the ridiculous scene. Ironhide getting lubricated on by a dog. So degrading.
"Record it." I smirked.
"Already one step ahead, babe." He replied, a little smugly, as we looked at the scene, waiting for it to unfold itself.
"No, no, no, no, no! Easy, easy, hold on!" Sam waved an arm in front of him, trying to make Ironhide cease the intimidation. But he wouldn't, we knew the old gruff. "Hold on, this is Mojo. He's a pet of mine, he's a pet! Okay, that's all! Put the guns away, put them away!"
"You have a rodent infestation, shall I terminate?" He smugly inquired, but we knew that he was just all too eager to blow something up, as so was proved when he brought up his trusty, leviathan cannons, turning them on and rotating them. Primus knows he hasn't had a good fight since he touched down, which was perhaps a couple of hours ago.
"No, no, this isn't a rodent, it's a Chihuahua! This is my-it's my Chihuahua. We-we, we love Chihuahuas, don't we?" He turned back to Mikaela who nodded more of out of fear than any real approval, as her stiff body gesture confirmed.
"He's leaked lubricants all over my foot!" The old weapons specialist made a big deal about it as we recorded Optimus giving him a look. He huffed arrogantly when he caught it and he had to take back his cannons.
"He-he-he peed on you? Bad Mojo. Bad Mojo." Sam chided his dog as he tried setting him to the ground once more.
"Bad Mojo!" Ironhide gruffly said, putting his cannons up again. Sam picked the dog up again and didn't put it back to the ground, lest Ironhide should exterminate it.
The boy shook visibly from Ironhide's thunderous voice, but started to apologize. "I'm sorry, he's got a male dominance thing, that's all there is."
"What are you two looking at?" Ironhide glared at us.
"Nothing." We said at the same time.
He eyed us. "You're doing something smug."
"Maybe." Sunstreaker shrugged as Ironhide groaned to himself once more, moving to the west side of the property.
"Ugh, it's gonna rust." He said in the distance as Sunstreaker presumably stopped recording.
"This is going to be brilliant." He smirked smugly. I nodded in approval. "Can't wait to use it as blackmail."
Ratchet stood up from his crouching position. He was inspecting the organic thing humans called flowers. Somehow, he was deeply intrigued in it and had been silent while everything else had been happening.
Then, Sam almost stumbled across the remnants of the fountain, still carrying his precious pet designated Mojo, and then turned to Optimus, who was speaking quietly to Ratchet about something, and the rest of us who were adjacent to them. "Shh! Shh! Shut up and go hide!" He yelled at the Prime.
But of course, Optimus was not to be degraded or disavowed of his authority. Without anything else, he simply, yet irritably replied. "Just hurry."
"Wow, I can't believe he just told our Prime to shut up." Sunstreaker said. "I admire the kid's guts."
I snorted at the statement. "He just said it because he didn't know any better."
Sunny shrugged in turn. "Where are those fragging glasses? It's taking forever to find them."
I didn't know how to answer him. Perhaps because I wasn't supposed to be the one to answer.
