Yang stood in her teams room, looking closely at her sister, who had since returned to living with them. She spent the past week in a hospital room, and Yang was glad to have her back. However, Ruby still looked terrible, her body wrapped up in bandages, stitches, and a whole mess of bruises and cuts. Yang knew that Ruby was in a lot of pain, not just mentally, but emotionally as well. It took a lot to bring Ruby down, but there was one person who instilled more emotion in Ruby than anyone else, and that one person was sitting back in that hospital room, that Ruby just came from.

It took Yang every ounce of energy she had to not run over to Ruby and squeeze the life out of her, the knowledge that if she did do that keeping her held back. Yang was going to wait on hand and foot for Ruby while she went through her recovery, not a doubt in her mind when she made the decision to do so. Between taking her to physical therapy for her hip so that she could walk again, and just making sure she felt comfortable, Yang was going to do whatever it took to help her sister recover from one of the worst beatings she took in her life.

Deep down though, Yang felt very scared for Ruby. She knew that even with her Aura working at it's maximum capacity, it would still take months for her to recover from the injuries. Afterwards, she knew that Ruby would want to get back right into the thick of things, not letting anything slow her down and that scared Yang. This experience made her afraid of losing Ruby, and so she wanted to protect her. She wanted to make sure that she didn't die the next time that things got out of hand, she wanted to make sure that her baby sister was going to come home the next day, and the day afterwards, and so on and so forth.

Looking at Ruby now, she saw just how dangerous their line of work was. The risk that any day could be their last never once crossed Yang's mind, and for the first time in her life, she was afraid. Not only for Ruby's sake, but she was afraid of also dying herself, knowing that she wouldn't be there to protect Ruby any longer. She didn't want to die, she didn't want to lose Ruby, she didn't want to do any of that.

"You ok Yang?"

Yang snapped out of her thoughts when she heard Ruby call out to her. She looked over at her sister to see that she was about to get into her school uniform. She managed to get the skirt on herself, but the shirt and jacket would be problematic, even Ruby knew that. "Y-yeah I'm fine." Yang said as she walked over to Ruby to help her put her shirt and jacket on.

Ruby was given the ok from the doctors to return to classes, but they still cautioned that she take it easy. While she was able to move around somewhat freely, her arm was still wrapped up nice and tightly, and she still had some trouble with walking. She didn't have to wear a cast around her waist because of her hip, however she was told to not walk on it for a while, except during physical therapy. Both Yang and Blake made sure to help Ruby get around to wherever she needed to go, much to Yang's relief.

Yang started to put Ruby's shirt on, cautiously slipping it over her bad arm first so that she didn't have to move it in any sort of directions. It was a long and slow process, with more than one yelp from Ruby, but eventually, Yang managed to get her shirt and jacket on comfortably, and she then put the sling that Ruby was given back on as well. "You don't sound fine Yang." Ruby said once Yang was finished.

Yang sighed, she could always tell when Ruby knew that something was wrong with her, so she just had to admit it. "I'm scared of what could happen if you keep doing this Ruby."

"Doing what?" Ruby asked back.

"Trying to become a huntress, you..." Yang didn't know how to say it at first, taking a pause to gather her thoughts. "...I don't want you to die Ruby." Yang said, tears starting to swell in her face. "I don't want to lose you." She sobbed as she pulled Ruby into a hug. "I don't know what would happen if you died." Yang said.

Ruby tried to comfort her, using her good arm to pat the back of Yang. "It's going to be ok Yang."

"But what if it isn't?" Yang said, jerking back and standing up. "What happens if the next time, you don't come back? What happens if you know that there is no way out of it?" Yang said. Her knees were shaking and she tried to stay up, but her legs gave in and she fell down to the ground. "I'm afraid to lose Blake, afraid to lose anyone from Team JNPR, hell I'm afraid of losing Weiss." Yang looked up from the ground at Ruby, the tears were more clear in her eyes than anything else. "But most of all, I'm afraid that the next time, I'll end up losing you."

Ruby sat on the bed she was supposed to share with Weiss, and she looked over to Yang, unable to walk over because of her own injuries. "Yang, you know I won't let this happen, and you know I would feel the same way if it was you, or Blake, or any of our other friends." Yang looked up and saw Ruby gesture for her to come over. "I don't want to keep you from what you want to do because that wouldn't be fair to you. For the time being, there really isn't anything that can be said about it."

Yang crawled over to her and wrapped her arms around Ruby's waist, placing her head into Ruby's chest. "I know, and I know that I shouldn't be worried about this, but I always will worry that the next time will be it." She lifted her head to look at Ruby. "I guess it's just right now it's still fresh in my mind."

Ruby nodded and patted the top of Yang's head. "I know. Now come on, Blake should be ready by now to help me get to class. You go get ready yourself." Ruby said to Yang.

Yang stood up and nodded to Ruby, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Right, you be careful while you're in class you hear?" Yang said, trying to put on a strong face for Ruby. Ruby just nodded and smiled back to Yang, who then turned and walked out the room, passing Blake as she walked out. "Please be careful with her." Yang said quietly as she passed by her partner. Yang didn't stick around to hear a response, instead rushing over to the bathroom so that neither Ruby or Blake could see her as she cried.

About halfway to the campus, Blake couldn't help but wonder if Ruby was feeling alright. Ruby had been stuck in a really bad situation, what with Weiss getting hurt and her having to remain the leader that she is, and there wasn't anything she could do about it. Despite Ozpin making it clear that it would be fine for Ruby to put her partner's health and well being above her duties in this case, Ruby was still expected to do a lot, and Blake knew it was getting to her. "You doing ok Ruby?" Blake asked her after a moment of thought.

Ruby didn't look at Blake, she was more focused on just getting back to class. "Yeah, I'm fine." She said, emotion completely devoid from her voice.

As much as she wanted to believe Ruby, Blake knew that she was far from fine."Are you sure about that? You do look kinda glum right now."

Ruby sighed and stopped walking for a second. When Blake noticed, she turned around and looked directly at Ruby, waiting for a response. "I'm just...I'm really worried about Weiss, and I don't want to lose her." Ruby said, staring down into the ground. "And then there was Yang this morning being upset about what happened, and she was saying things that made me wonder if being a huntress is worth it anymore, and..." Ruby took a moment to pause, allowing Blake to move in closer. "...I just don't know what to do anymore."

Blake placed her hand on Ruby's shoulder. "I don't know what I could say that would help you feel better, but I'll try anyway." Blake said, trying to think of something to say to the young woman. "What happened is tragic I know, but instead of worrying of what might happen, take this time to live life to it's fullest. When Weiss get's better, instead of wasting time that could be spent doing something boring, take her out to a movie, or go to the park. As long as you do it together, then it'll be well worth the time."

Ruby took a deep breath and nodded her head, using her good hand to wipe away the tears that were forming in her eyes. "Thanks Blake, I needed to hear that." Ruby said.

Blake lifted up Ruby's head by her chin, and gave a smile to her once she looked Ruby in the eye. "Of course." Blake saw Ruby smile a little bit when, prompting Blake to nod. "Come on, we still need to get you to class." Blake said, helping get Ruby moving again. It wasn't easy with Ruby on crutches with only one arm good, but Blake was willing to go the extra distance for her. Ruby had helped stand up for Blake on occasions, and didn't ask for anything in return. To Blake, this was the least that she could do, and she wanted to do more.

Once Ruby got to where her class was, Blake helped her down to where she was to seat. Since she was to help Ozpin with the leadership class, she had to go sit down at the front of the room. Fortunately for her, no one was in the room just yet, so Ruby and Blake could take as much time as they needed to get situated. As they walked down the stairs, Professor Ozpin showed up. "Well well, Miss Rose I'm truly pleased to see you back on your feet." Ozpin stated.

Despite having shown his concern for Ruby and Weiss, Ruby still was concerned that what had happened hadn't been an accident. "I'm glad to be back on my feet as well. But I do have a question to ask of you." Ruby said once she was seated in one of the more comfortable chairs, that Ozpin had provided to her. Ozpin set his paperwork on the desk and stood next to her. Ruby nodded to Blake asking her to give them a moment of privacy.

"If you need anything Ruby, just let me or Yang know, and if you can't get a hold of us, call on JNPR or even Sun." Blake rubbed her back before going, making sure that Ruby was ready to be on her own before anything else happened.

Once Blake was out of the room, Ruby grew serious, turning her attention to Professor Ozpin. "I wanted to ask you about what had happened."

Ozpin nodded, not sure what she meant by that. "Care to elaborate for me?"

"We had gotten bad intel from you about what to expect from the nest." Ruby said, implying that it was his fault. Ozpin wanted to say something, but he knew that sometimes he just needed to let them vent for a moment so that they could get what they needed to say out into the air. "You gave us bad intel and because of it, not only were we both gravely injured, but Weiss nearly died because of it."

Ruby let her voice get a bit more vocal as she went on. "Now my partner is lying in a hospital bed unconscious, and I want to know why it had to happen. Why is it that you are the reason that Weiss is nearly dead? Was faking her death not enough for you, did you actually have to almost kill her this time?" Ruby was now full on shouting, she had a lot of pent up frustrations with Ozpin over the way he handled some situations with Team RWBY, but until then Ruby just tried to make the best out of what she was given, but no more.

Ozpin dropped down onto one knee so that he was eye level with Ruby. "I doubt that there is anything that I could do to dismiss the thought of me purposefully doing this from your mind. To be honest, you have every right to be mad at me over all of that, including what happened nearly a year ago." Ozpin looked off to the side as he let his arm rest on his outstretched knee. "Do you remember when I said that I've made more mistakes than everyone else?" Ruby, who had calmed down a bit, nodded to his question. "Well ever since then I've made even more mistakes, some that I could not avoid, some that I knew would leave me with the consequences of my actions, and some that I didn't even realize it was a mistake until afterwards."

Ozpin turned his head back towards Ruby. "When I chose Weiss to have her death faked, I knew that the consequences of my actions would weigh heavily on me. You have full right to be mad at me for it of course and I wouldn't expect anything less." He closed his eyes and sighed before continuing. "What happened with you and Weiss was something that I did not see coming. I should have sent you out there with the rest of your team, maybe no one would have gotten hurt if that was the case." Ozpin looked like he had regret in his eyes.

As much as Ruby believed that he was upset over the event, it still didn't change anything. "That doesn't change the fact that you sent us in not knowing that things were going to be much worse than they were." Ruby said.

Ozpin nodded. "You're right, it doesn't change that. I should have looked more into it before sending you in, but I believed you could handle it. Your team is the best team that this school has trained in a long time." Ozpin stood up and walked over to the desk. "I know what it's like to lose someone close to me Ruby." He said quietly, Ruby barely able to make out what he said. "I know I can't change what has happened up till now, but I promise that I won't let anything else happen to you or your team while I still can. It may not be much, but it's everything I can give to you. What you do with it is up to you." Ozpin stated as he sat down waiting for everyone to show up for class.

The lecture started minutes later, and Professor Ozpin began to speak of different tactics and leadership skills that the class would need. About halfway through his lecture, he noticed his scroll go off, and he went to check it. Everyone in the room was confused and waited to see what it was. Once Professor Ozpin saw what the message he got was, he looked over to Ruby and nodded, silently letting her know that Weiss was awake. Ruby's eyes went wide and she carefully gathered her things and slowly walked out of the room, the moment she was waiting for had finally come.

Everything seemed fuzzy at first, she tried opening her eyes and she couldn't focus her sight. There was a slight beeping coming from right next to her, but it was pretty muffled for the first few seconds. After blinking a few times she was able to clear her sight, and she took note that she was sitting in a hospital bed. She wondered what had happened, but after trying to sit up, she felt a searing pain shoot through her body. Laying back down on the bed, she waited for anyone to come help her.

It didn't take that long for a nurse to come in and check on her, surprised that she was awake. The nurse ran over to the door and called out to her colleagues, the girl barely able to make out what she said. "She's awake. Let Ozpin know that Weiss Schnee is awake." The nurse said as she ran back over to Weiss' side. "Easy there ma'am, you went through quite the ordeal." She said. Weiss moved her head and looked down to see that her body was wrapped up in all different kinds of bandages and slings.

"What happened?" Weiss asked, her voice not yet fully returning to her.

"Well you got injured pretty badly. To be honest, you're extremely lucky to be even alive right now." The nurse said to her.

"Where's my partner, Ruby Rose? Is she ok?" Weiss said, her mind clearly focused on one person.

The nurse smiled at her. "Miss Rose is quite alright, she was just discharged from the hospital the other day and should be getting back into the swing of things by now." The nurse said. "I'm sure that she is on her way over right now, but it may be a little while considering her injuries are pretty bad as well." The nurse said.

"How bad?" Weiss said as she closed her eyes, just waiting to hear the damage.

"A few broken ribs, a small skull fracture, dislocated shoulder, upper arm fracture, concussion and a fractured hip." The nurse said. "Compared to you, Ruby ended up getting off easily." The nurse said, trying to reassure Weiss that Ruby was fine. "Now, your injuries are more severe. Compound fracture in your shin bone, broken collarbone, nearly all of your ribs are shattered, and you cracked a couple of the vertebrae in your spine. The worst you got though, was a punctured lung, which if you didn't get help as quickly as you did would have killed you." the nurse said to Weiss.

Weiss just nodded, not wanting to say anything to anyone. "I'm sure your partner will be here soon, so just try to not move. I'll raise the bed up so you can sit more comfortably." The nurse said as she did just that. Weiss was now sitting in the hospital bed waiting patiently for Ruby to arrive.

Weiss could only think of how much she wanted to see Ruby. She didn't know how long she was out for, but it had to have been too long for Weiss' liking. She needed to see the one person who mattered to her more than anything else. Time seemed to go by slowly, and every second she sat there, she worried that Ruby wouldn't come for her. As much as she knew that Ruby would be there, she was worried that maybe Ruby was so upset at her for nearly getting killed that she didn't want to be there, despite Weiss knowing that wasn't the case.

Her thoughts were dashed moments later when she heard the door open, and she saw that black and red headed mop of hair that belonged to none other than Ruby Rose. Upon seeing each other, both Ruby and Weiss felt tears form in their eyes. Ruby slowly made her way over to Weiss, doing her best to move on her own. Once she made it over to the bed, she hugged Weiss as hard as her body would let her, which given both of their current states, wasn't really that hard.

"Weiss I..." Ruby tried to say. Her heart swelled up into her throat and she couldn't say anything else.

"Don't say anything, just let this moment last." Weiss said as she cried. She felt that everything was right again, despite the injuries they both had. Ruby was next to her and she was determined now more than ever, to keep things that way.

AN: I have finally reached chapter 50. To be honest, I wasn't sure that I would be able to get this story as far as I did, but it's because of all of you guys reading this story that I was able to get it here. I want to thank all of you for helping me get this story up to 275 follows, and 200 favorites, numbers I never dreamed of reaching. So thank you, all of you, whether you were reading from the start back at the end of November, or if you just found this story yesterday, thank you.

I am going to be taking a Hiatus from this story, and most writing for the near foreseeable future. Writing has become very difficult for me, and I have lost a huge amount of motivation and creativity because of real life issues that I'm dealing with. This does not mean that the story is over, it merely means that it won't be updating for a while. I do plan on coming back to this when I have more drive, but until I find that drive I don't want to give you crap, instead of chapters that I can feel proud of. I hope you all understand this and I can't wait to get this story back to work. In the meantime, I still plan on doing a few more updates of GTR and maybe 2 or 3 chapters of BNW, but it may be a bit till then, I don't know.

I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter of Life of a White Rose, and I again want to thank everyone for reading this.

This is NobleMETA signing off.
