Andy
"Quick," Stiles hissed. "Open the door!" He was carrying Derek in his arms. I raced ahead and held the door open as everyone scurried inside. Kira and Malia had gone home. Stiles, Scott, Lydia, Melody and me had brought Derek to the animal clinic. Deaton will know what to do. I told myself. We set Derek on the table. He had been sleeping the entire ride back from Mexico, sprawled out across the backseat on our laps. He had muttered a few words but aside from that he had been completely silent.
"Oh my." Deaton mumbled when he looked at Derek.
"'Oh my' as in, you know exactly what's wrong with him and how to fix it?" Stiles said hopefully.
"I think you are all overestimating my abilities." Deaton sighed.
"Well what are we supposed to do?" I scoffed.
"He doesn't seem to be in any danger. He'll be safe here." Deaton told me.
"You mean from Kate?" Stiles raised an eyebrow at him.
"If Kate is after him and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to get passed the front desk. This is the safest place for him right now."
"What are we supposed to do?" I repeated.
"How about going home and getting some rest?" He suggested. "It is a school night. Someone should stay here with him though."
"I'm not going anywhere." I shook my head.
"I'll stay." Lydia shrugged. "My grades are fine."
"Andy, you have to go. You have school." Melody told me. "I'll stay with Derek. I won't leave his side."
"No." I shook my my head. "I'm not leaving him."
"Go." She hissed. I felt someone wrap their arms around my waist. It tried to struggle free but it was no use. Scott was stronger than me.
"Fine." I scoffed. "Put me down." Scott didn't put me down until we were outside. "That wasn't fair." I scoffed. "You know you're stronger than me." Scott just shrugged. Stiles hopped in his jeep and Scott got on his dirt bike.
"Do you need a ride to the loft?" Scott asked.
"I'm not going to the loft." I shook my head. I can't go back there right now. Not after what happened.
"Where are you headed?" Scott said, holding out a second helmet. "I'll give you a lift." I accepted it and put it on, hopping in the back of his dirt bike.
"River's." I told him. I hadn't spoken to River since I made him take Kai to safety. River didn't live that far away, only a few blocks. It didn't take long to get there with Scott speeding down the pavement on his dirt bike. He dropped me off in front of River's house. "Thanks." I nodded to him before he sped off towards his house. I sighed and knocked on the door. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and then the door opened.
"Thank god!" River exclaimed, pulling me into an embrace.
"River!" I scoffed. "Your crushing my bones!"
"Sorry." River laughed. "I'm just happy your alright! I thought maybe when you didn't come back that you were dead. What the hell is wrong with you? You can't answer your phone?" He hissed.
"I'm sorry." Was all I had to say. He took a deep breath.
"So what happened. Is Vicky dead?" His eyes widened. "Are you an alpha?"
"No." I shook my head. "Vicky isn't dead."
"She said someone was going to die." River frowned.
"Someone did." I shook my head sadly. "Can I crash here tonight?" I asked him. "I just, I can't go back there." River noticed my expression and the tone in my voice.
"Yeah." He nodded. "Come on in. Your gonna tell me everything though alright?"
"Yeah." I agreed. "You deserve to know everything." He lead the way up to his room. He left for a moment and came back with a sleeping bag and a foam mattress under one arm and two pillows under the other.
"You can take the bed." He told me. "I'm good with the floor."
"You sure?" I asked him.
"Yeah." He nodded, getting himself set up. When it was ready, he got under the covers and sat up, looking at me expectantly. I took a deep breath and started.
"Vicky said that someone was going to die that night, and the she didn't really care who." I started. "I tried my best, but I didn't stand a chance against her. She had me pinned down. I was ready for it to happen. I was ready to die." I ran my fingers through my hair.
"But you didn't." River said pointedly. "And neither did she. Something happened. Someone intervened."
"Yeah." I laughed nervously, trying to keep calm. "Someone did." I didn't lift my head to look into his eyes. I took a deep breath, but it didn't help. I felt like someone had clawed out my intestines. There was a lump in my throat that I just couldn't get rid of. I felt the tears forming in my eyes. I tried to force them away but failed. My hands were trembling. River stood, and sat beside me. He wrapped his arm around me.
"She stopped her from killing me." I said quietly. "She died in my arms." I sobbed.
"It was Maddy, wasn't it?" River said softly. "Maddy stopped Vicky. Melody told me that part."
"She was my best friend." I cried.
"I know." River said softly, embracing me tighter, letting me rest my head on his shoulder.
"The worst part about the whole thing, is that it should have been me." I sniffled. "Vicky wanted to kill me. I should be dead, not her. "
"Andy, it's not your fault." River told me. "Aright? You didn't kill her. Vicky did. Don't you dare try to blame yourself."
"It hurts." I sobbed. "It hurts so much. I just want this to go away. Please make it stop."
"I don't think it ever will." River said truthfully. "I think that it will always be with you, no matter how hard you try to make it go away. Why don't we try talking about something else?" He suggested. "Where did you go? I went by the loft and you weren't there."
"We found a clue that led us to Derek." I told him, using my sleeve to wipe my eyes. "It was a shotgun shell with the marking of a Mexican group hunters called the Calaveras. We went to Mexico and they lead us to an ancient temple, where Derek was being imprisoned by Allison's aunt, Kate. We freed him and brought him home." He was looking at me strangely.
"Mexican hunters? Ancient temple? Allison's aunt holding Derek prisoner?" He scoffed. "That's some screwed up shit." He grinned.
"It does sound pretty strange, huh?" I laughed.
"But Derek is back. That's a good thing, right?" He asked.
"Sort of." I mumbled.
"What do you mean?" He frowned.
"Derek is different." I said slowly, trying to figure out how to explain our predicament.
"What do you mean? Like he isn't a werewolf anymore?" River scoffed.
"No." I shook my head. "Like Derek is younger. He's our age now."
"Derek is fifteen?" River retorted. "You mean like time travel? How the hell is that possible?"
"I don't know." I shrugged. "Kate did something to him. We took him to Deaton. Hopefully he'll be able to change him back to normal. Melody and Lydia are with him."
"I'm surprised you didn't stay with him." Rive laughed.
"They wouldn't let me." I scoffed. "Scott literally had to pick me up to get me from leaving Derek's side."
"If anything happens, you know they'll call you immediately." River told me.
"I know." I nodded. "But I just can't help but feel helpless!"
"Dude, it's Derek Hale. He'll be fine." River assured me. "But uh, while we are here, I have something I want to tell you." His voice got quieter.
"Yeah, sure." I told him. "What is it?"
"I don't want any part of it." He said nervously.
"Any part of what?" I frowned.
"Of what you all do." He looked me in the eye. "I've been thinking. All those accidents," he mumbled. "Lydia went crazy after she was attacked by an animal at winter formal. Lydia was also strangled the same night that the music instructor died playing the piano. Erica Reyes and Vernon Boyd were both killed by animals. Isaac getting electrocuted. All that stuff, it had to do with you guys, didn't it?" he said quietly.
"Yes." I nodded. "Some of things happens before I came to beacon hills. I never got to meet Erica. She and Boyd were missing when Derek found me and Melody. I went with Derek and Scott to save them; but it was too late. By the time we got there, Erica was already dead. We could only save Boyd." I told him the truth.
"The night you bit me, Allison was there. I remember her being there. She was also part of your pack." He added quietly. "She didn't get stabbed, did she? How did she really die?"
"We were fighting demonic ninjas, they are called the Oni. They were meant to find the nogitsune and kill it. But the nogitsune had possessed Stiles. The Oni could not kill the nogitsune without killing Stiles along with it and we weren't going to to let that happen. We had to find another way. But the Oni fell into the wrong hands. Somehow the nogitsune had gained control over them, and they fought against us. The fight was awful. Nothing we were doing was killing them. Until Allison did. She fired an arrow at one of the Oni that was coming up behind Isaac. The arrow stuck into its chest and started glowing before it exploded, the Oni disappearing. During that one moment, we all exchanged a silent look and let it sink in. They could be defeated. I turned to Allison, but by then it was already too late. We'd been distracted and the Oni took their opportunity. After Allison fired the arrow, when she turned, one was the Oni was waiting with his katana. He stabbed his sword right through her body before anyone could react." I said sadly.
"I lost my dad because of him." River said quietly.
"That wasn't Stiles," I argued. "It's not his fault."
"I don't blame Stiles. I know that it wasn't him. " He told me. "But my dad is still dead. People die doing the things that you and the others do. You can call me a coward for it, but I don't want to die." He trailed off. He didn't need to say it. I knew what he wanted.
"I'm not going to call you a coward, because you aren't." I told him.
"You aren't mad?" He frowned.
"No." I scoffed. "Why would I be mad? It's your decision. I'll keep you out if it if that's what you want."
"But what about the others?" He asked nervously.
"It's not up to them." I told him. "Besides, you were my beta. Technically that make you my responsibility."
"Thank you." He sighed in relief.
"It's all good." I shrugged. It was silent for a few moments. "What now?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"We could try getting some rest?" River suggested. "We do have school tomorrow after all."
"Alright." I nodded. I pulled on the blanket, crawling underneath the covers. I lay awake, staring up at the ceiling. Sleep was the last thing that I could think of. Thousands of thoughts spun through my mind, about Derek, about my brothers and my sister. About River's decision. And worst of all, Maddy. No matter how hard I tried to push her to the back of my mind, she kept coming back. I could see the memory as if it had just happened a few moments ago. I felt a pang of sadness, and felt like I was being suffocated by the darkness.
Melody
Lydia was dozing off, her eyes fluttering. Sleep was the last thing I could think of. Not with Derek like this. Deaton frowned, narrowing his eyes at Derek.
"What is it?" I asked.
"His heart rate is alarmingly high." He mumbled. Lydia stood, coming to stand bedside me. I squeezed his hand gently.
"Is that bad?" I asked him.
"I'm not entirely sure." He muttered. "I'm gonna try something, keep holding his hand." Deaton looked back at his tools and grabbed a scaffold. My body stiffened.
"You aren't gonna dissect him, are you?" I shuddered.
"I'm just going to try something," he repeated. Lydia and I watched curiously as Deaton used the scaffold to make an incision on Derek's forearm. Derek's flesh healed almost as soon as the blade passed through it. It look as if it were stitching itself back together. Derek didn't acknowledge the pain at all.
"That's healing way too fast." Lydia frowned. "What does this mean?"
"I don't know." Deaton sighed. "I'm gonna try something else, I'll need both of you to help." We nodded and followed him over to his tools.
Andy
I heard a shuffling sound and broke my staring contest with the ceiling to look at River. His bed on the floor was cleared up and he was now riffling through his drawers for clothes.
"Sorry." He muttered. "I didn't mean to wake you. I'm just getting my stuff for school." I shrugged and swung my legs to the side of the bed. Time had gone by really fast. I was staring into the darkness for so long that I hadn't realized it was morning. I stood, stretching my arms. "Here," River said, tossing me a blue T-shirt. It had a dark blue vinyl with acrylic writing.
"Thanks." I told him as I pulled my own shirt over my head. I pulled the clean one on.
"Just toss it over there," River told me, nodding towards a pile of clothes in the back corner. I did as he said , and pulled on my shoes. "Alright, let's go." He said once the two of us were ready. River's house was only two blocks away from the school, so it didn't take long to get there. I pulled open the front door and let River walk in first before I followed him. There were crowds of people, some of them sobbing and others clustered around various spots on the wall. I ignored them, making my way to my locker. When I came around the corner by my locker, people were looking at me weird. No one spoke. They cleared a path for me to see what they were looking at. I froze. It was a poster of Maddy. According to the poster, Maddy was another one in the long line of Beacon Hill's animal attacks. I felt a lump in my throat. Her green eyes were staring at me sadly. I felt like I was compelled, like my eyes were forever locked onto hers. Tears formed in the corner of my eyes. I could feel anger swelling up inside me. Vicky doesn't deserve to just get away with this. Maddy, Vicky will pay for what she did. I vowed silently. Someone's hand grasped my shoulder. River.
"Andy," someone croaked. I turned my head to see Kai. His face was red and splotchy, and his brown eyes were glossy. Everyone kind of backed away, leaving the three of us alone. "I got to school and I saw the poster," he sobbed, trailing off. "I had to find you." He said quietly. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate. Kai stepped closer to me and wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tightly as if he hadn't told the counsellor that he hated me, as if we were still good friends. River came closer too, and put his hand on my shoulder.
"I'm so sorry, Andy," Kai cried. "I know how close you two were." I'd never felt so close to anyone. It made me feel better, to have the two of them there, my two closest friends to support me. The bell rang and we broke apart.
"Come on," I said weakly, rubbing my eyes. "Maddy wouldn't want us to be late for humanities." Kai laughed meekly and River just shot me a sad look.
"I'll meet you there." River told us before heading to his locker. Kai and I went to our lockers and pulled out our binders. We walked silently to our class. I expected Kai to break away and sit with Mason, Violet and Garret, but he didn't. The desks had been set up in groups of three. I sat on the middle row of desks on the end and Kai took the seat on the other side, leaving the middle desk available for River, who had walked through the door just as the bell rang.
"You're lucky, Hastings." The teacher scoffed. "One more minute and I would have had to write you a late slip."
"I guess I got lucky." River shrugged.
"This time." The teacher retorted, standing to begin handing out assignments. River took his seat between me and Kai, flashing me a grin. I smiled back. It felt good to have Kai back. Hopefully it would last. When the teacher arrived at our desks, he handed me and River our papers, but skipped over Kai.
"It's going to be different without you in this class, Miller. Quiet, hopefully. But different non the less. I hope you'll enjoy your new school." He nodded before continuing.
"New school?" River hissed. Kai stared at his desk. "When did you plan on telling us that you were moving?"
"I didn't know what to say." Kai shrugged. "Besides, we haven't exactly been talking these past couple weeks."
"That was your call, not mine." River scoffed.
"You two are keeping something from me, so I figured that since I wasn't good enough to know your secret, you couldn't hear mine." Kai sneered. River exhaled dramatically, holding his head in his hands.
"How long?" He mumbled. "How long till you leave?"
"Tomorrow." Kai replied. "Today's my last day at school."
"Where are you going?" River asked quietly.
"To live with my aunt in Connecticut." He answered. River didn't ask anymore questions. When the class ended, I went to my locker to drop off my binder. River came over before I had the chance to close it. Kai had already gone to find Mason, Violet and Garrett. Guess he's still angry with River and me.
"It's a spare block." River told me. "What do you wanna do?"
"I don't know." I shrugged. We started waking down the hall way.
"River Hastings to the office please, River Hastings." The secretary's voice cracked over the P.A system.
"Why are they calling you to the office?" I frowned.
"No idea." River shrugged. We turned towards the office. At the end of the hall, there were two men. I recognized Agent McCall. This can't be good. Sheriff Stilinski was there too. River stopped in his tracks, his heart beat increasing.
"I'm sure it's nothing too serious." I reassured him. He nodded and continued walking, but he didn't seem too be convinced.
"Hello River." Agent McCall smiled. "Andy." He nodded.
"You called me to the office?" River's voice quivered.
"Yes." He started. "River, it's come to our attention that you are currently living on your own without adult supervision, is that true?" River shot me a look of desperation before sighing.
"Yes." He mumbled.
"Your father was a great deputy," Agent McCall told him.
"You didn't even know him." River retorted.
"From what I heard," he shrugged. "What about your mother? Where is she?"
"She died when I was still in diapers." River scoffed. "But you already knew that or you wouldn't have come here."
"Yes." He nodded. "It's illegal for a minor to be living on their own, so unfortunately we are going to have to send you to a boys home until you are old enough to legally live by yourself."
"Will I still attend this school?" River asked hopefully.
"That's where things get a little complicated." He said awkwardly. "There are no boys homes in Beacon County. We'll have to send you to the nearest one, which is quite far from here. They will teach you everything you need to know there, with the other boys."
"No." I protested.
"Andy, I'm sorry. I know River is your friend but you've got no say in the matter." Agent McCall scoffed.
"Sheriff, isn't there something you can do?" I pleaded.
"I'm sorry," Stilinski shrugged. "I'm already pulling enough stings with you and Melody." He said quietly. My head was spinning. River doesn't have complete control on full moons yet. He can't leave. He could hurt someone. His worried expression showed that he knew this as well.
"We'll send someone with you to collect the necessary items from your home and then you'll be on your way."
"You're sending him away?" Someone hissed. Kai. He stood beside the Sheriff.
"There isn't another option," McCall shrugged.
"It's not like it affects you." River scoffed. "You won't be around to miss me." Kai's eyes lit up.
"What if he lives with me?" Kai suggested. "I'm going to live with my aunt. River can come with me. My aunt will be happy to take him in."
"River?" Sheriff asked. "What do you think of that?"
"Really?" River asked Kai. "I thought you hated me."
"I could never hate you." Kai retorted. "Well? You gonna come with me to Connecticut or not?"
"Yes." River laughed. "A million times yes."
"Alright," Stilinski smiled. "As long as your aunt is okay with it." He trailed off.
"She'll be fine with it." Kai insisted.
"Then I'll fill out the paperwork." Stilinski grinned. River pulled Kai and me into a hug. I'm gonna miss them. I thought dreadfully. They are my only friends in this school. School won't be the same without them here. I'll be all alone.
Derek
I was laying on a cold, flat surface. Slowly, I opened my eyes. Where the hell am I? I swung my legs over the side of of, a table. Why was I on a table? How did I get here? My head started spinning. I couldn't see clearly, everything was a red blur. I could see three pairs of glowing eyes staring at me. Three voices were echoing in unison, all of them repeating my name. They said something else too. But all I could hear was my name. It hurt my ear drums. I tried to block out the noise by covering my ears but it didn't help. I couldn't take it anymore. I shoved the closest one away and bolted for what I assumed was the exit. This building wasn't familiar at all. This is all too weird. I'm just gonna go home.
Andy
Kai and River were gone. They left to pack River's belongings. They wouldn't return to school. I planned on stopping by to visit them before they left, so I could see them one last time. I was sitting in class, staring at the clock and counting the minutes until it was over. There were still forty seven more to go. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Someone sent me a text. It was from Melody. Something happened with Derek. I stood, almost knocking over my chair, disrupting my class and causing the teacher to glare at me.
"Andy, sit down." She hissed. I quickly packed up my things and bolted for the door.
"Sorry, can't explain. I have to go." I shouted at her over my shoulder as I left, ignoring her protests. I dumped my books into my locker and sprinted past the office. By the time I arrived at the animal clinic, Stiles's jeep was outside. When I entered, Scott, Stiles, Melody, Lydia and Deaton were gathered around the table that Derek had been laying on when I saw him the night before. He wasn't here now. I noticed that Deaton had bandages on his left arm.
"Where's Derek?" I asked dreadfully.
"He ran away from us." Lydia sighed.
"You let him get away?" I hissed. I locked eyes with Melody.
"It wasn't as simple as that." Lydia scoffed. "He woke up, scared out of his mind. We tried talking to him. He hurt Deaton and sprang for the door before we could react."
"He looked really scared and confused." Melody shook her head sadly.
"I think," Deaton started. "Derek is not only younger in physical appearance, but in his mind as well."
"He had no idea who any of us were." Lydia chipped in. I felt like the small shred of hope I had shatter.
"He doesn't know us?" I groaned dreadfully. "You can fix him, right?" I asked. "Deaton, please tell me this isn't permanent."
"I don't know." Deaton sighed. "I've never seen anything like it."
"You guys are all worrying for nothing." Melody scoffed.
"You aren't worried?" I retorted.
"No," she crossed her arms. "I'm not. Because despite everything, he's still the Derek that we know."
"No, he isn't. We don't know younger Derek." I retorted.
"I know we can find a way to get him back." Melody insisted.
"We just need to find him first." Lydia said pointedly.
"Where would a scared, teenage werewolf go?" Stiles asked.
"A wolf goes back to its den." Scott shrugged. "But Derek lives in a loft."
"Not when he was a teenager." Lydia shook her head.
"The Hale house?" Stiles suggested.
"He wouldn't remember the fire." Deaton nodded. "It wouldn't have happened yet."
"Well let's go, we know where he's going." Stiles said. He and Scott started going towards the door.
"I'm coming with you." I told them.
"Andy," Scott started to argue.
"No." I cut him off before he could continue. "This is Derek, we're talking about. I'm going. There's nothing you can do to stop me."
"I'm coming too." Melody piped in.
"Alright." Stiles shrugged. "But what are we even going to tell him when we do find him? 'Hey, by the way your whole family died in a fire that you don't remember happened?'"
"I don't know." Scott sighed. "I can't lie to him."
"Alright, I'll do it." Stiles shrugged.
"No, I mean I literally can't lie to him. I don't think any of us can. He'll hear our heart beats. When we find him, we tell him the truth."
"If he gets to the house before you," Deaton said slowly. "You won't have to."
Derek
My heart was racing. Anger swelled up inside me. What is this? What happened to my house? Where is my mother? My sisters? Where did my family go? I tore through the fence. There was a sign that read 'No trespassing' but I ignored it. This was my property. There was a fence the whole way around. In the centre of it all was a pile of rubble that was supposed to be my home. I felt a lump in my throat. My hands were shaking. None of this made any sense. I fell to my knees beside the rubble. Trembling, I grabbed a piece of debris. I recognized it instantly, and exhaled deeply, letting out a small cry. It was a piece of the floor from my mother's room. I clutched it in both hands, my grip on it tightening with every breath. I couldn't stop the tears that came next. I could see a police car pull up from my peripheral vision. Two deputy's got out and started to walk towards me, but I ignored them.
"Young man!" One of them called. The other deputy snickered something which earned an unamused glare from the first.
"Hey dumb ass, can't you read?" The second deputy retorted. "It's says no trespassing. Now get the hell out of here."
"Maybe a gentler approach might help." The first deputy muttered. I glanced up only long enough to read his name tag. Deputy Parish.
"Are you hurt?" Deputy Parish asked. "We can get you some help."
"I live here." I spat at them.
"No one has lived for years." Parish frowned.
"This is my home. My house was right here. What happened? Where is my family? Where is my mother?" I demanded.
"Alright, that's enough." The other deputy snarled, gabbing me roughly. I scowled and twisted his arm around, causing him pain.
"There's no need for that," Parish said slowly. "Hags, stand down." I let him go, shoving him a little roughly. "Hags, no!" Parish's eyes widened. It was too late. I didn't even have time to react. The other deputy hit my side with a stun gun.
I sat at the police station, one hand handcuffed to a chair. Deputy Parish and the other deputy, Hags, kept shooting me looks. Finally, Parish came over. He bent down in front of my so he was at my eye level.
"The other deputy thinks I'm an idiot for even asking, but I think that if I take those handcuffs off, you'll be more willing to let us help you figure out where your family is." I nodded, glaring at Hags. When the handcuffs were off, I rubbed my wrist.
"The other deputy is an idiot." I retorted.
"Can't argue with that." Parish grinned
"Parish, get over here." Hags scoffed.
"What?" He asked, looking at the computer screen.
"I've run this kids prints multiple times. All I've been able to find is this," Hags nodded at the screen.
"Derek Hale?" Parish read.
"Did you say Hale?" Another man asked. His badge was different than the others. I read his name tag. Sheriff Stilinski. Stilinski looked at the screen, and then to me. He frowned, coming closer to get a better look. I could tell he was confused. The door burst open at the end of the hall. The three boys, and girl that had entered stopped. Sheriff Stilinski saw them too. "I'll handle this." He told the two deputy's. He turned to the four newcomers. "My office." He told them. They nodded, all shooting me a look before disappearing with the Sheriff into his office.
Andy
"I'm going to ask you something, and I want you all to be completely honest with me." Stiles' dad said slowly. "Have you been time traveling? Cause if time traveling exists, I'm done. You can drive me to Eichen House."
"No, we found Derek like that." Stiles told him.
"Where? Swimming in the fountain of youth?" His dad scoffed.
"No." Stiles shook his head. "We found him covered in wolfsbane in an Aztec temple buried deep within a church in a ghost town in the middle of Mexico." He shrugged.
"You told me you were all camping." Sheriff Stilinski narrowed his eyes.
"We were!" Stiles said, quickly realizing his mistake. "In Mexico." He said awkwardly.
"What are you even doing here?" Sheriff Stilinski sighed.
"We just want to talk to him." I said, nodding towards Derek outside.
"He won't talk to anyone." Stiles' dad shook his head.
"He'll talk to me." Scott insisted. Stilinski nodded and left us alone. The door opened and Derek walked in. He closed it behind him and sat on the bench, staring at us. He was waiting for us to speak first.
"Listen," Scott said, breaking the awkward silence. He looked to us for some ideas.
"You are going to have to trust us," I said slowly.
"Trust you? I don't even know any of you." Derek scoffed. "I don't trust just anybody."
"Yeah, it's definitely Derek." Stiles muttered. No one payed any attention. We were all focused on Derek.
"You can trust me." Scott kneeled down and showed him his eyes.
"You're an alpha." Derek said quietly. "What about you two?" He nodded to me and Melody. In unison, we showed him our eyes. He was a little surprised. "You're eyes are blue." He said quietly.
"It's a long story." Melody muttered. Her skin turned pale as she remembered the man she killed. Derek shrugged and turned to Stiles.
"And who is he?"
"He's human." I told him. "But you can trust Stiles. You can trust all of us."
"Where's my family? What happened to them?" Derek demanded.
"There was a fire," Scott said slowly. He looked Derek straight in the eye. He couldn't do it. He couldn't tell Derek that his family were all dead.
"But they're fine." I reassured him. "There was an accident, and you lost a lot of memory. We'll take you to your family after we help you get your memory back. " I listened to my own heart beat as I spoke, making sure it didn't give me away. It didn't. It worked just like in my training sessions with my old pack. My heart kept a steady pace just as I had trained it to. And Derek believed me. It felt wrong to lie to him, like I had just betrayed his trust. When Derek went to sign the paperwork, I turned to Scott.
"Well now what do we do with him?" I asked quietly. If Derek decided to listen in he would know that we lied.
"Take him to my house. My mom has a late shift tonight." He told me.
"What about you?" Stiles frowned.
"I'm going to find who we should have gone to in the first place." Scott shrugged.
"I really hate that guy." Stiles muttered.
"We all do." I scoffed.
"I'll go with you." Melody offered. "Peter might know a way to change Derek back. Besides, there's no use going with Stiles and Andy if Derek doesn't even remember who I am." I hope she's right, I thought. Hopefully Peter can fix him.
Derek
When we left the station, the alpha, Scott, went somewhere else. These three claimed that they knew me, but I don't know who they are. I can't trust them. I decided. The human, Stiles, lead the way. The beta named Andy followed silently. I had no choice but to follow them. After a while of walking, Stiles walked up to the house on the corner and opened the door. We were in the living room when someone stepped out of the kitchen.
"Stiles? Andy?" The man scoffed. "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for Scott." I told him. Stiles shot me a look.
"So am I." He sighed. "We were supposed to have dinner. There's extra here if you guys are hungry. We can eat while we wait." He shrugged.
"I'm starving." I said at the same time they said,
"We're not hungry." Stiles and Andy said in unison.
"Okay then, he can have some. Who's your friend?" He frowned, nodding to me.
Andy
Derek started to say his name but Stiles interjected.
"Miguel." Stiles said quickly. "He's my cousin. From Mexico." Agent McCall nodded, turned to Derek and started to speak Spanish. Stiles' face fell. But to our surprise, Derek responded in fluent Spanish. McCall seemed satisfied because he lead the way into the kitchen.
Derek
We sat at the table eating Chinese food. I could think of a thousand different ways I could be spending my evening, none of which included having dinner with three strangers. The man, who apparently was Scott's father, kept trying to engage me in small talk but Stiles kept interjecting, answering the questions for me. He seemed unsettled about something, like he didn't want me to talk to this man. They were hiding something from me, I could tell. Somehow I could just feel that it had something to do with the fire that Scott had mentioned earlier. Something dangling around the man's neck caught my eye. It was an FBI badge.
"You're an FBI agent. You must have worked on some pretty interesting cases." I pointed out. Stiles coughed, little bits of chow mien coming out of his mouth.
"Not many cases." Stiles said quickly. "He's not even very important." Andy leaned in closer, clearly intrigued by where this was going. He didn't seem alarmed like Stiles was. He shot me a look, almost like he was telling me to dig deeper.
"Yes." Agent McCall glared at Stiles. "And yeah, I've worked a few interesting cases."
"What about fires?" I prompted.
"Nope." Stiles shook his head. It was clear he didn't want me to hear what this man had to say. He obviously lied to me about what happened.
"Yeah, sometimes." Agent McCall nodded. I couldn't stop myself. I have to know.
"What can you tell me about the Hale fire?" I asked.
Andy
Derek pulled us both upstairs. He shoved Stiles up against the wall.
"You lied to me." He snarled. Stiles was powerless against the beta.
"No, I lied to you." I scoffed. "Let Stiles go." He let Stiles go, and turned to face me. He definitely looked stronger. He was also about two inches taller than me, but I held my ground, I wasn't going to let him think that he had the upper hand.
"I want to see the alpha." He hissed, locking eyes with me.
"Alright," Stiles said quickly. "Just go into Scott's room and wait there. I'll go get my phone and call him." He raced down the stairs, leaving me alone with the angry Derek.
Derek
I sat in the edge of Scott's bed. Andy was standing by the door, eyeing me down. His eyes were blue. I frowned, thinking back to when he and the girl showed me their eyes. They were blue like mine.
"What happened?" I asked him, breaking the silence. "Your eyes are blue. Something has to happen to make them change from yellow to blue like that. When you showed me your eyes, you and that girl, they were blue instead of yellow. How?" I felt a pang of sadness, just thinking about how my eyes had changed.
"Melody." He said, making eye contact. He said it as if I should know who that was. He sighed when I didn't say anything and continued. "My sister and I were in a bad pack before we were found by a better alpha." He shrugged.
"Do you know what happened to mine?" I asked, curious. Only two people knew. Andy claimed to know me, but did he know? He turned to face me, making eye contact.
"Paige." He said quietly.
"You know about Paige?" I stammered. He cursed under his breath, scolding himself. He looked up, his eyes tinged with sadness.
"You really don't know who I am?" Andy said quietly. It was almost a whisper. I examined his face, his green eyes, his hair. I tried to find something, anything, that was familiar about him. There was nothing. I couldn't stand looking at how sad he looked, so I looked away.
"No." I told him. He turned away from me and stared blankly at the wall. I felt sorry for him. He just looked so sad. "The alpha that found you, it was Scott?" I asked him.
"No." Andy shook his head. "Scott was there, but he wasn't an alpha. Stiles was there too. The alpha found us, my sister Melody and I, injured and left for dead. He took us in, gave us a pack, a home. I'm loyal to him and I'd do anything for him."
"He sounds like a great alpha." I told him. "But you are with Scott now, what happened with the alpha that found you?"
"He isn't an alpha anymore." Andy shrugged.
"I'm sorry for your loss." I said sincerely.
"He's not dead." Andy shook his head. "He used his alpha strength to heal his dying sister. Because of his sacrifice, his sister lived."
"I want to meet this alpha." I decided. "He is a beta now, isn't he?. Is he still around?"
"You'll meet him eventually." Andy shrugged.
"What he did was admirable. I haven't even met him yet and I already respect him. I would do anything for my sisters too." As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I felt a pang if sadness. "Were there any survivors?" I asked him quietly. "Please, tell me the truth."
"Yes." He nodded.
"Who?" I asked excitedly. My family isn't all gone.
"Peter." He told me. "That's where Scott went, to get Peter."
"Only Peter?" I couldn't help but feel disappointed. He shook his head.
"And Cora." He added.
"Cora," I smiled. "My little sister. Where is she?"
"After the fire, you sent her away. She lives in South America." He explained.
"You know a lot about me, but I still don't know who you are." I mumbled.
"I'm Andy." He shrugged.
"That's it? Just Andy? What's your last name?" I insisted. He locked eye contact.
"My name is Andy Hale." He said quietly.
"Hale?" I frowned. "We're related?"
"It's a long story." He told me.
"We've got time." I said.
"The alpha who find my sister and me, his last is Hale. He was like us, he didn't have much family. When he took us in, he didn't just let us into his pack, he gave us a home, a family. He was the father that Melody and I never had. We'd do anything for him."
"Who is he?" I asked again. "You say I'm related him?"
"Yeah." He nodded. "You share the same bloodline."
"Then what's his name?" I prompted. Andy didn't answer. "More secrets?" I scoffed
"I'm sorry." He sighed. "If it were up to me, I'd tell you everything."
"What do you mean, 'if it were up to you.'" I hissed angrily.
"It's not up to me." He shrugged. "And honestly, I'm scared to tell you any more because if I tell you too much than we might not be able to fix you."
"Fix me?" I scoffed. "I'm not a broken toy."
"You're right." He told me. "I'm sorry. I meant help you get your memory back."
"Why do you even care?" I asked him. "It's not that big a deal. You could just tell me everything."
"It's complicated." Andy insisted.
"Oh really?" I raised my eyebrow. "Then uncomplicated things."
"It's not that simple." He hissed in annoyance.
"I disagree." I argued stubbornly. "I think you can make it real simple by just telling me the truth. What's so bad that you have to lie to me?"
"You want to know the truth? Fine." Andy snarled. I'd clearly stepped over the line but I was so close to finding out the truth, that I ignored the guilt. "How old do you think you are, Derek." He spat my name.
"What do you mean, 'how old do I think I am'" I scoffed. "I'm fifteen."
"It's 2014." He told me. His response caught me off guard, and I choked on my own spit.
"2014?" I sputtered. "That's impossible."
"No, it's not." He turned on his phone and showed me the screen. The year read 2014.
"You changed it." I mumbled. "You changed the year on your phone." I hissed.
"I know it's hard to grasp," Andy said slowly. The hostility seemed to have gone.
"No, it's not." I snarled in anger. I could feel myself losing control. "You changed the date. You're lying, just like everyone else." I stood, taking a step towards him. "You all need to just stop lying." My breathing increased rapidly.
"Derek, calm down." Andy said slowly, getting to his feet.
"Don't tell me to call down." I snarled. I wasn't even sure where this rage was coming from. "I'm sorry, just stay away from me. I don't want to hurt you. I'll be fine, it's not even a full moon." I tried calming my breath. "I should be fine." I muttered.
"It's okay." He told me, putting a hand on my shoulder. He locked eyes with mine. His green eyes shifted to the cold, piercing blue. "It's alright." Looking him, I knew that he wasn't lying to me. The year was really 2014. I closed my eyes, and steadied my breathing.
"Thanks." I mumbled, shrugging his hand off my shoulder. His eyes went back to normal.
"It's fine." He shrugged. "I remember when I used to lose control."
"You don't anymore?" I frowned.
"Not as often. It's rare." He told me.
"How?" I asked curiously. "I'm fifteen and I still don't have complete control. You have to teach me." His eyes twinkled in amusement. "What?"
"Normally you're the one teaching me." He laughed.
"What?" I frowned. His eyes widened.
"Uh, nothing." He said quickly. "It's just something that I learned in my old pack." I heard the door swing open. It caught Andy off guard and he was knocked off his feet, slamming his head hard on the floor. Groggily, he turned his head, barely able to lift it. The person walked through the doorway, kicking him aside. It was a woman.
"Who the hell are you?" Andy slurred.
"Kate?" I frowned. She was different, older, but it was definitely her.
"Hey there, handsome." She smiled.
"What are you doing here?" My eyes instantly shifted Andy. I sighed in relief. He looked fine.
"I came for you." She told me. "You trust me, don't you?"
Andy
I can't believe I let her take him. I was so close to getting through to him. I sighed. I shouldn't worry about that right now. I scold myself. My two best friends are leaving, I should focus on them. Melody, Scott, Malia, Peter and Stiles had gone to deal with it. I stood in River's room by the window. River was running wildly around his house packing up his stuff. Kai sat on the bed, keeping his distance from me. River had told Kai everything, and he hadn't spoken to me since.
"I think that's the last of it." River sighed, joining me and Kai. His eyes shifted between the both of us. "Come on, you guys." He scoffed. "This is the last day that we'll all be together. Can't we just pretend that things were the way it used to be? I hate this. The three of us used to have so much fun."
"That was before I found out that Andy turned you into a werewolf and that he had killed people before." Kai retorted. "And that the two of you totally cheated your way onto first line."
"Kai, I heard what you said to Vicky in the counsellors office. Werewolves have supernatural hearing. She wanted me to hear all of that. It was part of her plan. " I told him. Kai's eyes widened. He dropped his forced scowl and looked broke eye contact with me. "I know how you feel about me, and that's alright. But Vicky acted like she was the victim. That I'm the bad guy. But you don't know her. Yes, I killed her husband, Duke. But not before they made Maddy try and lure you and River to them so they could force you to turn. They kidnapped my sister and took away her memory of our pack so that should live with them."
"Why would they want your sister to live with them?" Kai frowned, narrowing his eyes.
"Vicky and Duke were my biological parents." I told him. "They gave Melody and I away when we were younger so we didn't want anything to do with them. They took matters into their own hands because they were jealous about what we had with Derek. When it was clear that my loyalties were to Derek and not them, Duke attacked me. An alpha against a teenage beta, I didn't stand a chance. Duke was sitting on me, pinning me to the floor. The pain was unbearable. I thought about just giving in. But I couldn't leave Melody. The details are kinda fuzzy. Somehow I managed to knock Duke off of me. He wasn't going to stop until one of us was dead. And I couldn't let that be me. I got a hold of his head and I," I paused, taking a breath. "I slammed his head onto the ground. Harder than I realized." I sighed.
"You still killed him." Kai scoffed.
"It was self defence!" I argued. "Besides, it ended up being a good thing that I did. If I hadn't used my extra strength to save River than he wouldn't be here." Kai didn't speak. It was silent for a while before River spoke up.
"Look, I'm going to go down stairs and make sure I've got everything. You two sort out whatever the hell is going on between the two of you." He disappeared without another word.
"Look, hate me all you want. That's not going to change anything. But don't take it out on River. He's still new to all this." I told him.
"River and I already came to an agreement with that. I'm gonna cover for him every full moon as long as he leaves me out of it." Kai scoffed.
"No." I shook my head. "Kai, you can't leave him to go through it alone. He's going to need your help more than ever. He can't do it by himself."
"It's your fault he has to go through it in the first place." Kai retorted.
"Maybe we weren't destined to be friends." I mumbled. If Kai had heard what I said, he showed no sign. River came back in the room.
"I'm going to miss this place." River sighed to no one in particular.
"I'm gonna go call my aunt." Kai said, walking towards the door.
"Andy," River started. "I don't how I'm going to be able to go through it without you and the others there to help me."
"You'll be fine." I told him.
"I'm scared I'm gonna hurt someone." He ran his fingers through his hair. "Or worse."
"You aren't going to hurt anybody, alright?" I insisted. "You'll be okay." He nodded, but I could tell he wasn't convinced. Kai came back into the room.
"She'll be here right away." Kai told us. We sat in silence, neither of us knew what to say. A car honking outside broke the silence. I closed eyes, taking a deep breath. Kai and I helped River carry his bags outside. When the car was packed, it was time for them to leave.
"I guess this is goodbye." I said sadly. I'm losing my two closest friends.
"We'll visit." River said, hugging my tightly. I hugged him back. I'm going to miss him. Kai too. "I promise, alright? This isn't 'goodbye.'" He shook his head. "It's just 'see you later.'"
"See you later, then." I forced a smile. River and Kai both got into the backseat. I watched my two closest friends drive away as their vehicle disappeared into the distance.
Finally. Sorry it took me so long to update. I've been busy with other things and I had trouble writing this chapter. But whatever. What do you guys think? Should Andy get revenge on Vicky? Should Kai and River return? Review! If you have any other ideas feel free to tell me. Sorry about changing the point of view so much. I'll try to update as soon as I can but I can't guarantee it will be soon. I'll try my best to get it finished as soon as possible though. Till next time!
