"Guardians…" Seraphina started. Bunny didn't listen but the others looked at her with worry.
"What happened?" asked North. Mother Nature looked at him before glancing at Bunny. The others followed her eyes.
"Bunny…" Tooth started. She put a hand on his shoulder making him flinch.
"Wh…" his took a shuddering breath "what… who…" a sigh "why…?" he asked her with tears in his eyes. It just hurt so bad…
"Follow me" Sera said. No room for arguments left.
They walked towards another part of the forest until she turned around and showed them her hand. There was black sand on her palm.
"I'M GONNA KILL HIM!" Bunny all but yelled before being held down by roots.
"Bunny, clam yourself" North called.
"Let me go!" Bunny screamed. All he could feel was anger. Pure rage. He wanted to kill him. Just that. How?! How the hell had he went and done that under their noses?! How had he had the nerve to do it?! This was it!
He had no right! Lily had nothing to do with them! Nothing! He wasn't even sure they had even met ever before! She was no guardian! She had nothing to do with Mim, nothing to do with Pitch! Nothing to do with what they were! She was…! She was the most freakin' peaceful being he had ever met! She had no part in their story, no place in their battle against the shadows, no place in their battle to protect children, no place in… in anything what so ever!
So why?! Why her?! She had nothing to do with it! Nothing!
"I don't think you understand Aster" Sera said with sadness. A part of her none of them had ever witnessed before. Bunny stopped struggling while trying not to let the tears escape his eyes and failing miserably. They all looked at her.
Sandy touched Bunny's shoulder. Bunny looked at him and after sighing he nodded. Seraphina's tone said it all. This was a dire situation.
The stared at her as the woods seemed to breathe with more strength. The Wind started making its way around them as if calling for every single being known to men and spirit.
"No one has ever done this before" she began "Attack a seasonal that is… There's a reason for that" she said with a deadly tone "This… is a call of war"
…
Glen felt the call. Sera was starting and they needed to act fast. There was no telling how long before Pitch- and whoever may have participated- attacked again. And it could be any of them.
He had to get going and gather the others. They had to be ready to respond.
And so he opened a tunnel, and jumped.
…
Somewhere in Antarctica a huge blizzard could be seen starting to form from space. And in the middle of it all Jack kneeled against the snow in the middle of a screaming fit.
Large tears were jumping from his eyes as if trying to suicide, Wind yelling along with him while making a tantrum out of air.
It just hurt so much.
He had thought the feeling he got while flying towards the woods had been pain. He had thought what he felt once he landed there was pain.
Oh, how wrong he had been.
No. This. This was real pain. And it wouldn't go away.
All he could think of was Lily's smiling face. And he couldn't fight it.
Oh he knew the feeling. Yet… this was beyond any of it.
Of all the times he had seen the face of death and deal with its hollow pain, this beat them all.
Cause, yeah, this was death alright, if not worse.
Damn, he wished it was as simple as death!
But no.
This was something so much bigger…
It made no sense. It had to be a nightmare.
Why her? Why Lily?! She was world's freaking spring! Every single good thing you could ever think of materialized in one single season, in one single spirit, and yet, however, look where that had got her.
It wasn't fair. It didn't make sense at all. All of a sudden she was lying there, like that…
And it hurt so damn bad!
As if something had been gripped out of him. It made him feel like burning, yet cold- a feeling he wasn't in the very least used to- like he was a little ant against a sea of nothing, yet like he was trapped in a little box with no air.
It made him wanna cry in pure paranoia, yet wouldn't let him make a single word.
It made him feel broken. Beyond repair.
Everything was wrong. Nothing was right. Nothing could ever again be right.
A feeling only nature creatures could understand.
Real nature creatures. No humans, no spirits… just them.
The feeling of balance.
Broken.
If they only knew how it felt…
Just understand the fact that it felt like being skinned alive from the inside… like being torn apart alive… like there was nothing… nothing left…
The world was just no more…
And so he cried…
And Wind cried as well…
Because it hurt… because it killed… because it took everything away…
… to never give it back…
…
Maeve had flown to Germany and was now in the Black Forest causing tantrum as well.
The Wind was blowing so hard it might as well have been the beginning of a tornado.
And Maeve knew it. Humans should consider themselves lucky. Cause as matter of right now she could have gone and kill every single soul that stepped in her way.
But she couldn't even move.
Hell, she couldn't even breathe.
She was kneeling on the wet ground, trees struggling not to fall apart from the force of the wind. Yep, it might as well be a hurricane.
But Maeve didn't care. She didn't care. All she could think of was air. Air.
She couldn't breathe, she couldn't move, she had no control.
She had no control.
The tears wouldn't stop.
The hiccups and sobs racking her body making it impossible to draw any air into her lungs.
The screams not making it any easier to do so.
But no matter how hard her mind tried to get her to comply, her body wouldn't listen.
Nobody would ever listen.
Not after today.
Not after Lily…
There was no way out.
There was no way out, there was no way out, there was no way out.
And there would never again be.
The balance was gone. The peace, the life, the air, the earth, the life.
Everything gone.
Ripped apart.
And it hurt like a thousand needles. Like being torn apart from the inside out.
Like vanishing.
Hollow.
Pain.
And was no way back.
There would never be…
…
Somewhere in the Arabian Desert a huge sandstorm like any you ever saw could be seen from afar.
Luckily there hadn't been any people around.
Luckily.
Cause not even then would have Sunny stopped what he was doing.
Crying and screaming from the top of his lungs that is.
Hot boiled tears were evaporating from his cheeks under the burning sun, the Sand surrounding along with Wind, making it harder to breath. Although that was most likely the screams for sure.
He had no air and neither he cared.
He wanted Lily. He wanted his Lily. He wanted to forget that body lying in the grass.
Cause even if had her clothes, her hair, her flowers… it wasn't Lily. They have been deceived.
That girl couldn't be Lily.
Wouldn't be Lily.
Wasn't Lily.
Lily was somewhere near Australia or any country where she liked to hang around just humming and caressing flowers while looking at the sky.
So no, she wasn't under the ground. She hadn't been the body lying where now a beautiful Oak tree stood in power, one of Lily's favorite trees…
No, she couldn't be.
She couldn't be, she couldn't be, she couldn't be, she couldn't be.
She…she-
She had no right to be…
…
"Wh-what do you mean war?" Tooth asked scared. The rest of the guardians standing next to her in concern.
"Pitch…" Sera started.
"Is gonna die" stated Bunny filled with anger. But his teammates seconded that with nods of their own.
"You don't get it" Glen suddenly appeared from a hole. The others just stared. He was mad "This is not about some stupid vengeance!" he stated "This is about everybody"
"What is it you mean?" asked North with a frown.
"Why would Pitch attack Lily of all people?" and saying her name hurt "How would he know how?!"
There was a flinch from Bunny who looked at him wide eyed. He had got it. The others looked at Bunny.
"Her necklace…" he whispered.
"Exactly" Glen gave a quick nod.
"What do you mean?!" Tooth asked as Sandy frowned in concern.
Glen looked at Bunny and then at Sera to continue.
"Lily's necklace… you saw it… it had been completely destroyed" he explained "Jack's staff is the same" and three gasps plus a mute one followed the sentence.
"Then we have to go get Jack!" North stood up.
"You can't" Sera said.
Now Bunny was getting irritated.
"What do you mean we can't?! He knows! Jack could be the next one!"
"Wait, why would he attack Lily first?" Tooth asked Bunny who looked at her in astonishment.
"Uh-huh" Glen nodded.
Sandy them made a few symbols which Sera had no problem to understand.
"Yes, we think so too" and the others looked at her questioningly for her to explain "Just as the Sandman, we think he probably went after Lily to probe his theory. Some way or another, he figured out about Jack's staff and its real meaning, but if he had attacked Jack he wouldn't have had a chance, plus…" she continued "You didn't know he was back." She stated.
"We knew there were nightmare for children, but nightmares always there" North stated.
"Well… then he would have also risk to be discovered so…"
"He went after the weakest pray…" Bunny finished, paws into fists.
Glen sighed with a sad smile.
"She gave a hell of a fight…" he whispered with some tears burning in his eyes.
"Then we have to go for Jack!" Tooth cried "He's probably looking for him!"
"That's what you don't get" Glen explained "It's not that simple"
Sandy made a question mark.
"I told you, guardians…" Sera started "There's a reason why nobody has ever dared to stand against a seasonal before" and the others just stared making her sigh "Sit down first, this will take a while"
"But Jac-" Tooth was saying.
"This is more important" and they so didn't shared that opinion.
"Was has now just happened has endangered everything you hold special. Children have also been threatened"
"What?" North asked in disbelief.
"Seasons hold the balance of the world. One cannot be without the other. The moment Lily disappeared that balance broke" she stated "And this will affect everything and everyone. There's no tell how much pain the others are in right now…" she whispered "You felt it too… didn't you?" she asked Bunny.
Bunny stared back at her with wide eyes.
"That's why…" he whispered.
"Yes…" Sera explained "Being involved with Spring made you feel Lily's… Spring's state…" she glanced at Glen's knowing face making Bunny finally understand.
"You two…" he started.
"Yes" Sera answered "We feel it too, more than you do" and Bunny had swallowed. Cause if he had thought that was pain, then…
"Yeah…" Glen snorted sadly "And don't even get me started on how those kids actually feel"
The guardians gasped and Tooth covered her mouth.
"Exactly" he said "And the point is what do you think will happen now that there's no Spring?"
"The weather…" Tooth whispered.
"Yes" Sera started "And weather does not make difference between animal and humans"
"The children…" North started.
"How do you humans react to climate catastrophes?"
Sandy made a few symbols. Easy enough for everyone there to understand.
The answer was clear.
Fear…
