Chapter Fifty

Kaitlyn walks into Dean's room, frowning when she finds the room empty. She slips out of her jacket and sets it on the chair before heading out to the nurse's station. Paige looks over and smiles.

"Hey you," Paige says.

"Hey. Dean's not in his room. Everything okay?"

"Yeah. He's down in therapy. They got him in late. Come on, I'll take you down so you can watch him."

Kaitlyn follows the other room down the hall. "How's he doing?"

"He's doing great. He's improved at a rapid pace. For someone who's sustained the injuries he has, he's actually ahead of schedule."

"He's not overdoing it, is he?"

"No. They're pushing him as far as they need to and seeing where things go." Paige gestures into a window once they stop. "There he is."

Kaitlyn chews on her bottom lip as she watches Dean. "He looks good."

Paige smiles. "In more than one way, right?"

"Paige… come on."

"You come on. Nothing wrong with thinking your husband is fucking hot."

Kaitlyn grins. "He does look really good. Doesn't help that we haven't been together in a long time." She rests her hand on her stomach. "And it's gonna be a while until we do again."

"You can have sex while you're pregnant."

"I'm aware of that. But it's going to take time for him to get there again. I don't want to hurt him."

"And I get that. But you have to know that he'll tell you what he's ready for. He may be stubborn, but he's not dumb enough to risk injuring himself more."

Kaitlyn nods. "I know." She watches as Dean moves back into his wheelchair. "I still have to figure out what we're gonna do when he gets out of here."

"What do you mean?" Paige looks at her.

"We live on the second floor. He's not gonna be able to do that many stairs." Kaitlyn lets out a soft breath. "I just wish we could have found a house already."

"You could always talk to your parents about staying there. Only a few stairs to get inside and there's plenty of space on the main level."

"Yeah, it's crossed my mind. Might be our only option. I'll figure it out. And I'll talk to him about it too." Kaitlyn watches as Jackie pushes Dean out of the room.

Dean smiles when he sees Kaitlyn. "Hey, Baby."

Kaitlyn leans down and kisses him. "Hi." She smiles. "You looked good in there." She smacks Paige's arm when she giggles.

"What's going on?" Dean raises an eyebrow at them.

"She was checking you out," Paige says. "I'll see you two later."

Kaitlyn glares after her before looking at Dean once again. "What?"

"Checking me out, huh?"

Jackie grins. "Kaitlyn, want to push him back to his room? I'll meet you there shortly."

"Okay." Kaitlyn steps up behind the chair and starts toward his room.

"You know, you don't have to hide to check me out," Dean says. "We're married."

"I am aware of that fact."

"So what's the problem?"

"The problem is you're injured and I shouldn't be looking at you the way I was." She sighs as she turns into his room.

"Hey, come around here so I can see you." He waits until she's standing in front of him. "You can look at me any way you want to."

"Dean…"

"If you're looking at me like that while I'm looking like this means something, Katie." He reaches out and takes her hand. "Nice to know you still find me attractive."

She reaches down, sliding her fingers through his hair. "Always, Baby." She leans down and kisses him.

"Show me your belly. I want to see my baby."

Kaitlyn can't help but laugh a little as she stands back up and lifts her shirt. She smiles when Dean rests his hand on her stomach. "Starting to show more and more every day."

"That's good though. How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay. A little woozy in the morning. But overall I'm good."

"Good." He shifts and leans forward to kiss her stomach. "Do we want to know what we're having?"

"Do you want to?" She combs her fingers through his hair. "I would like to, but if you don't, we'll wait."

He shakes his head. "I wanna know. I wanna know now."

She smiles. "Well, I don't know yet."

"Have you gone to the doctor's yet?"

"Just for an initial checkup. I've been hoping you'd be able to get me for the next one. Not sure if that'll happen though."

"Do you have an appointment scheduled?"

"Monday afternoon."

"Here?" He smiles when she nods. "Well, let's talk to someone and see if I can go with. If it's here, they may let me."

"Couldn't hurt to ask."

"Where's Kelsey?"

"Stayed after school with Eve. She'll be coming up soon. Told me that you and I need to spend some time together before she gets here."

He grins. "Of course she did." He looks over when Jackie walks in. "Question for you, Miss Jackie."

"Ask away," Jackie says as she locks the wheels.

"Kaitlyn has a doctor's appointment on Monday. Would it be possible for me to be there with her?"

"If it's here in the building, it can definitely be arranged." She looks at Kaitlyn. "Who are you seeing?"

"Dr. Regal."

Jackie smiles. "You are in amazing hands. Dr. Regal delivered all six of my babies."

"Six?" Dean asks. "Damn."

"Dean…" Kaitlyn glares at him.

Jackie laughs softly. "It's okay. It's not the first time someone has been shocked by that."

"I didn't mean anything by it," Dean says. "Just surprised."

"Not a problem." Jackie gets him settled back into bed. "Now, we should talk about you."

Kaitlyn frowns at that. "Why? Is something wrong?"

"No, not at all. He's been doing great. If things continue at the speed they currently are, I don't see any reason that you'll be here much longer. Now, that does not mean go back to work. You are definitely not well enough for that. So tomorrow, we're going to have you walking more. In order for you to leave, you'll have to be able to be stable on your feet. You will have crutches to help, so that's not a problem."

Dean nods. "Okay. So how long are you thinking?"

"Well, I don't want to get your hopes up, but could be as soon as the end of next week. Now, that's not a guarantee, remember that."

"I will." He looks at Kaitlyn, not completely surprised by how quiet she's become. He knows how worried she is.

"Okay, you two behave in here." Jackie smiles at them before heading out of the room with the wheelchair.

"Baby," Dean says as Kaitlyn moves the chair to be beside the bed once again. "You know they wouldn't let me out if I wasn't ready, right?"

Kaitlyn nods as she sits down. "Doesn't mean I'm not gonna worry." She reaches over and takes Dean's hand. "There is something we need to talk about though."

"Yeah? What's that?"

"Where we're going to be staying when you do get out. There's no way you'll be able to climb all of the stairs at our place." She watches him closely. "I think our only option, other than going to a hotel, would be talking to my parents."

Dean wrinkles his nose. "I guess that's really all we can do."

She nods. "I really don't want to be living in a hotel."

"Me neither. So talk to your parents and we'll take it from there." He sighs. "Too bad we couldn't have found a house sooner."

"We'll get there." She drops his hand and rests her hand on his stomach. "I just want you home. I don't even care where it's at right now. I just need you to be in bed with me at night." She closes her eyes. "I'm sorry. I'm just a little emotional right now."

"Baby, it's okay. Come over here and kiss me."

Kaitlyn moves to sit on the edge of the bed. Leaning down, she kisses him. "I miss you, Dean."

"I miss you too, Katie."
