The Sandman, having heard the rumors about the newest seasonal spirit, decided to see what the one who the rumors were about was like for himself but tracking him down was harder then he thought as he never stayed in one place for long and he did have a job to do as not only the dream giver but a Guardian of Childhood as well.
As the years passed without him being able to find this new, young, spirit, the Sandman became frustrated and was just about to give up on ever finding him when he felt someone, from the feel of it, a child ran there fingers through his dreamsand, thus catching his attention, as he knew this is the time children were supposed to be asleep.
Curious as to who it was, the Sandman floated along the stream of sand he felt had been disturbed only to find a seventeen year old boy playing with dreamsand dolphins, laughter ringing through the air and a smile adorned his face. He was about to scold the boy when he noticed the color of his hair and realized he was a spirit, though one he hadn't ever seen before.
As he watched the spirit child play, a smile slowly spread across his own face. "Oh, I am sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you, I will just go." He heard the young spirit utter as soon as he noticed Sandy watching him. The Sandman quickly flew toward him and gently grasped his arm and shook his head, silently telling him he didn't have to leave.
The oter spirit blinked down at him, confusion on his face. "You don't want me to go?" He questioned in an awed and slightly hopeful voice, which the Sandman replied with a simple nod and smile. His smile was answered by the young spirit's own as the Sandman released his arm to pat the cloud of dreamsand, telling him to settle down beside him, which he did.
Once he was settled, the Sandman pulled out the scroll and feathered pen he carried with him and quickly wrote on it then handed it to the other. "Your name is Sanderson Mansnoozie and title is Sandman, wow long names. May I just call you Sandy for short?" The Sandman silently chuckled but nodded once before he pointed to the scroll. "What is my name, oh I am Jack Frost but you may just call me Jack, and I am the Spirit of Winter. It is nice to meet you Sandy."
Sandy, who liked the nickname Jack asked to call him, took the scroll and wrote on it then handed it back to Jack, who read it then smiled at Sandy. "I would like that, thank you. Well I better go, got lots more snow to spread, I will see you around Sandy." After their first meeting Jack and Sandy often met up to just hang out whenever they were in the same area, sometimes Jack would regale Sandy with his misadventures and Sandy would silently listen as he spread his dreamsand to the sleeping children, he enjoyed listening to Jack's stories.
Two hundred years later Sandy was overjoyed that Jack was chosen to become a Guardian, though he did his best to hide it from his fellow Guardians, at least at first until Jack was brought to North's Workshop. Over the next few days Sandy did his best to look after Jack but when he was hit with the arrow made from his corrupted dreamsand he knew he wouldn't be able to unless he fought the fear that was taking him over.
"I'm sorry Jack, I tried but this is one battle I can't win, please help the others in my place and don't blame yourself." Sandy thought as he stood bravely while the corrupted sand covered his body. As he faded a lone tear fell at the sound of Jack's scream, though it went unnoticed by all. "I love you my son." Was his last thought as he was swallowed up by the corrupted sand, for he had thought of Jack as a son from the moment he got to know him though he had never told anyone that, not even Jack.
He wasn't sure how much time had passed, or what had happened while he was gone, but the first thing Sandy noticed when he awoke was that Jack was in danger and he sent his sand whip out to stop Pitch from harming Jack and, once his body had reformed, sent Pitch flying up for daring to attempt and hurt his son. After they had made it to North's, and Sandy had time alone with Jack, he happily listened to Jack prattle on about what had happened while he had been gone and was slightly upset at how the other three had treated him at Easter.
While Jack talked MiM sent a moonbeam down to shine of them both, glad that Sandy was back as well. "Welcome home, old friend." He told Sandy.
"Thank you MiM. It's good to be back... and among family once more." Sandy responded as he smiled at Jack, who smiled back until Sandy messed up his hair then he protested as he jerked away.
"Don't mess with the hair Sandman." He mocked growled as he fixed it though Sandy knew he didn't mean it from the laughter in Jack's eyes and the smirk on his face.
