Helloooooo, How is everyone's summer so far?
In this chapter...Ethan finds out what he's having...
Chapter 52: Ethan's POV
"Ethan can you hand me the screwdriver?" Evan asked.
I looked to my left, seeing the screwdriver on the mantle so I grabbed it and walked it to Evan, who was across the room.
"Thanks bro," he said, going back to assembling whatever he was.
"You need some decorations down here," Emma commented.
"That's why the three of us are here, making it look nice," Evan chuckled.
I was currently at Evan and Adam's house with Evan and Emma. Evan and Adam live like bachelors since they aren't have kids anytime soon and so we're working on turning their basement into a "man cave" as Evan likes to call it.
"How did you manage to sucker me into being here?" I spoke up. "This isn't my house."
"Because you two love me," Evan smiled. "And I want to spend time with my pregnant siblings before my nieces get here."
"Plural?" I looked at him.
"You're having a girl," Evan said. "I just know these things."
"I think it's a boy," Emma said. "I want a nephew."
Everyone was betting on what my baby was. Luckily, I was 20 finally and Luke and I are going later today to find out. Most of my family thinks I'm having a girl, but Emma and Luke think it's a boy. I don't really know what to think, but I was excited to find out.
"This baby is already starting to make my back hurt," I said. "What does that mean?"
"Boy," Emma said. "Boys are harder to carry I've heard."
"I don't think that's a thing Em," Evan said.
She shrugged.
"So, how are things with you and Luke?" they both stared at my knowingly.
I don't know honestly. No one knows about the kiss, and we haven't talked about it. He continues to help me and it's almost as if it never happened…even though it was still very fresh on my mind.
"He's a good parent," I shrugged. "He's really excited."
"So when are you two gonna get a house?" Evan asked.
"We're not together so I'm not living with him," I said.
Evan and Emma looked at each other and gave this look.
"What was that?" I looked between the two.
"Nothing Eth," Emma chuckled.
"I have been thinking about moving," I said. "The apartment is only so big and even though it is nice, I don't really want to raise both of my children there. I want them to have a yard, and maybe get a dog and be like a suburban family."
"Like how we were growing up," Evan said.
"Exactly, the five of us and Sydney," I smiled fondly at the memory of our old dog.
"Ok don't talk about Syd I'm triggered," Evan said.
"Same," Emma nodded.
"Anyway, that would be a nice way to live," I said.
"Asssss soon as you and Luke get together, then it can be the five of you including Noah and it would be just like our family," Emma said. "You know before Liam was born."
"Exactly like it," Evan said. "Right down to the middle child that only shares one parents with his siblings."
"It's actually kind of chilling how similar your family would be to ours," Emma frowned.
"Have a late in life pregnancy with the three you already have are teenagers and it would be exactly like our family," Evan chuckled.
"Okay can we not talk about this," I said.
"Move into this neighborhood," Evan said.
"No thanks I want to be as far away from you as I can be," I joked.
"You know you miss me when you can't see me," Evan stuck out his tongue.
"You boys have never changed," Emma rolled her eyes.
We worked for a little while longer before I had to get going for my appointment. After saying goodbye to my siblings, I drove towards the clinic. As I pulled up, Luke was pulling up at the same time; I smiled at that before remembering how he was late to my 5-month appointment with Laura.
I got out of the car and Luke pulled me into a hug.
"You excited?" Luke asked.
"Very," I smiled. "I don't know what to expect? Where are Noah and Laura?"
Luke was watching them when I was helping Evan and Emma.
"At my parent's house," Luke said. "I was going to bring them along, but they both needed a nap."
I nodded in understanding as we walked in. We signed in and sat in the waiting area. I was slowly starting to feel the joy for this baby that I was missing. The more my stomach grows and the more evident it becomes that I'm pregnant the more real it feels.
"Baby Mitchell," I heard.
Luke and I got up and followed the nurse back to the room, where he checked all of my vitals. After the nurse was done, that left Luke and I to wait for Dr. Martin.
"So I've been thinking…" Luke said.
"Uh oh," I chuckled.
"I'm serious," he said. "I want to be with you."
I stopped. That was blunt.
"Luke," I sighed.
"I know, we're friends and you want to focus on the baby, but think about how much better this life will be for the baby and even Laura and Noah for that matter when we're together and can be a complete family."
"So, you just want me to go from being me and my daughter to having a husband and 3 kids?" I asked.
"Yes," he nodded. "And I know you want that too."
"Let's talk about this later, right now let's focus on the baby," I said.
As if on cue, Dr. Martin walked into the room.
"Ethan and Luke, how are you two today?" he smiled brightly.
"Doing pretty good," I answered. "Still no movement from the baby though."
"The baby is moving in there, you just can't feel it yet," Dr. Martin said. "Don't worry about it too much."
"Okay," I nodded.
"So we are officially halfway through the pregnancy, which is a good sign," Doc started talking. "Usually by this point, if something were to go wrong it already would have."
He then started to speak about taking care of myself as we get closer to the third trimester and all the usual stuff he always talks about.
"Any questions for me?" Dr. Martin asked at the end.
"Can we know what we're having?" Luke asked.
"Sure thing, Ethan lay back for me," he said. "Logan thinks it's a girl. He's really excited to have another grandchild, you and the baby are all he talks about at work."
"Trying to imagine that is so funny," I commented.
My Dad wasn't super emotional, so me trying to imagine him getting all giddy about the baby was hilarious, but he loves Laura so much and I know he would do anything for my kids. Dr. Martin squirted the gel and used the transducer, looking for the baby.
"Oh," Dr. Martin said.
"Oh what?" I asked, slightly panicked.
The screen was facing him so I was having a hard time seeing it, but Oh was never good.
"Well…Ethan it looks like you're having a set of twins," Dr. Martin was smiling. "Congratulations."
"WHAT?" I yelled.
I turned to look at Luke just in time to see his eyes roll to the back of his head and see him hit the floor, passed out. Dr. Martin looked at him concerned.
"He'll be fine," I shrugged. "I can't believe I'm having twins how did that happen?"
"You should consider yourself lucky," he was explaining. "Multiples are typically in female pregnancies and it's a rare thing in male pregnancies. They're also harder to see in male pregnancies, which would explain why your father never knew he was having twins till he delivered them."
"Of course I would be the one to have twins," I said.
I couldn't believe it. I didn't know whether to be happy about that or just more nervous. Three kids…I was going to have three kids now.
"I will say that it's a gene that runs in the family. Logan's side of your family was more likely to have twins, something he passed on to you, Emma, Jade, Evan, and Liam."
"Damnit Dad," I rolled my eyes.
At that time, Luke popped back up.
"Welcome back," I rolled my eyes again.
He just smiled at me sheepishly.
"We need to monitor you more closely because it's rare and because of that its more dangerous for you, so if anything ever feels wrong or off, you come visit me at the hospital I'll make time for you," Dr. Martin said.
"Thanks doc," I smiled.
"So…was Mr. Mitchell's guess right about the gender?" Luke changed the subject back to the original topic.
"Well…it looks like Logan was wrong," Dr. Martin said. "Ethan, you're having twin boys."
I smiled instantly. Two knuckleheads that would probably drive me nuts, but I wouldn't have them any other way.
"Yes boys!" Luke smiled. "I knew it…"
"Yup, we're having two of them."
Suddenly, Luke went pale.
"Oh right…they're…twins," his eyes rolled back again and he passed out once more.
"He'll get used to it," Dr. Martin said.
"I sure hope so…"
After printing a sonogram and getting Luke off of the floor, we were able to leave.
"I can't believe we're having twins," I said for maybe the 50th time in 10 minutes.
"Don't say that word, it makes me feel queasy," Luke said.
"The sooner you get used to it the better," I said. "Because in 4 months they'll be here."
"I'm going to go pick up the kids," Luke said. "I'll bring Laura to your place tonight."
"Okay, I'm going to go visit my parents," I got in my car.
They were going to FREAK, but I wanted to see how it would play out. I drove over to the house and unlocked the door, going inside of the house.
"Family I'm here!" I yelled out.
"Living room!" I heard Liam's voice.
I walked into the room seeing Liam on the couch. He just turned 7 last week, which was emotional for Pops because all he can think about is how his baby is getting older and will be leaving the nest in 11 years.
"Hey little brother," I sat next to him. "How was school?"
"Pretty good," he shrugged. "Same old thing."
I chuckled; I swear he seems so much older than he is.
"Well, I went to the doctor today for the baby," I said.
"Really?" he perked up. "What did he say, is it a boy or a girl?"
I didn't say anything, I just handed Liam the sonogram to look at.
"Why is there two? Did they print the same thing twice?" Liam looked between the two babies.
"Nope, they're twins," I said.
"That's so cool," he said, putting his hand on my stomach.
I chuckled at the kid.
"Hi babies, if you can hear me we're going to play cops and robbers all of the time," he said.
"They're both boys," I added.
"Good, boys rule," Liam smiled.
I stopped for a second.
"Wait, where are our parents?" I asked. "Did they just leave you in here?"
"They're outside in the pool," Liam said.
"Doing what?" I asked, already knowing the answer.
He only shrugged. I got off of the couch and walked over to the back door. I opened it to see them in the pool, making out intensely in the water. I stepped out further, walking out to the deck, them not noticing me at all.
"You know, you shouldn't leave your home to a seven year old," I said.
"Ethan!" They both broke apart, scared and embarrassed."
"How long were you standing there?" Dad asked.
"Long enough to be disgusted," I made a face. "Stop trying to make another baby."
"Shut up," Pops splashed my legs, with a smile.
"Popssss," I whined. "Stop it."
"Wait!" They both sprang into action, hopping out and surrounding me.
"Your appointment was today," Pops remembered.
"Is it a boy or a girl?" Dad asked.
"Well, we got a little bit of a surprise today," I said.
"What kind of surprise?"
"We're having boys," I smiled.
"Dang it, I lost the bet!" Dad frowned.
"Yes! All I ever had was boys and I knew you were bound to have one eventually," Pops was smiling brightly.
"Wait…you said boys," Dad turned to look at me.
I held up the sonogram for them both to see and both of their eyes widened.
"Twins?" Pops asked.
"Twins," I confirmed.
"Wow…"
"I'm just glad that they detected yours and you don't have to have any delivery room surprises like I had," Dad said.
"I passed out," Pops made a face remembering the memory.
"Twin boys wow…you're in for a handful," Dad said.
"Thanks for the comforting words Dad," I chuckled.
"Just keeping it real," he smiled.
"Well, you know that we're going to help you as much as we can," Pops said.
"Yeah, if you ever need us at any time call us and we'll come right over," Dad said.
"I appreciate that, I really do," I said.
"Have you thought about getting a bigger place now that you're going to have three kids in the house?" Pops asked.
"Yeah, I was actually talking about that with Evan and Emma earlier," I said. "I want to get a house."
"Well, I can get you in contact with my friend Andrew…he's an amazing realtor and he'll hook you up with a great deal," Pops was saying.
"Oh yeah, he's amazing," Dad confirmed.
"Great, give him my number, I've got to get home soon to pick up Laura. You two enjoy your…pool time." I gave them a look.
They both blushed red.
"Love you guys," I hugged them both.
"Love you," they said together.
I started to walk away.
"Ethan," Pops called.
I turned around to face him.
"Won't be long now, only 4 months," he was smiling.
And I couldn't help but smile back at them.
I really wanted to get the whole family in this chapter, so that's why I started out with the siblings and added the little tidbit at the end with Carlos and Logan. Also BOOM! I want to know your reactions to the twins!
Question: What else could possibly happen in the next 4 months?
