"Mommy, Daddy! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!" Jake and Aurora are jumping on us.
"Bell, it's your turn. I got up early yesterday." I mumble against my husband's chest. I am curled up on my side and tucked up against him.
"Nope. I think it's your turn." He murmurs into my hair as our children continue to bounce up and down on our bed, occasionally landing on one of us.
"Mommy, do you know what today is?" Aurora asks as she finally gives up on jumping. She crawls on top of me and pulls my eyelids open. I can't help but laugh at our now four year old twins. Jake is doing the same thing to Bellamy.
"I don't know." I feint confusion and look over to Bellamy as we both sit up. "Honey, do you know what today is?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe it's chores day. Is that it?" He scratches his forehead as if trying to remember.
"No! No chores!" The twins yell as one. That is what does it. I hear Kensi start to cry from her crib. She's just 4 months old.
"Oops." Aurora covers her mouth. "Sorry Mommy."
"It's okay sweetie. Dad is going to go get Kensi while I try to figure out what today is." I give Bell a wink as he admits defeat and gets out of bed.
"I want to help!" Aurora leaps from the bed to be caught by her father.
When he ruffles her hair I can't help but smile. Who would have thought that we would be here together after everything we went through? Jake pulls me away from my memories as he climbs into my lap. He turns around so that he's facing me and puts one hand on each side of my face.
"Mommy, you didn't forget our birthday did you?" He asks in a quiet voice.
"Of course not baby. We were teasing." I tell him and give him a kiss.
"Good. That would make Aurora sad." He says. He has always been so protective of his twin sister that it melts my heart. I know that it would make him sad too, but he only cares about her.
"I'm sorry baby. Should we go downstairs and start making your birthday breakfast?" I ask him while wrapping my arms around him and nuzzling his neck. He squeaks and starts to giggle.
"Stop." He pleads through giggles. His eyes are shining with joy.
"Let's go." I toss him gently to Bell's side of the bed and get up from the bed. "Do you want a piggy back ride?"
"Yes!" He leaps onto my back and I help him get settled before rushing to the stairs. Bellamy meets us at the top of them. He has Aurora on his back and Kensi in his arms. They are all giggling, even Bellamy. Of course if you were to ask him he was laughing a very manly laugh.
"Ladies first." He gives me a mock bow letting Aurora bounce upwards a bit.
"Thank you good sir." I give him a curtsy and skip down the stairs making sure to hold Jake against me. He sometimes forgets to hold on still.
"Pancake time!" Jake calls out as we get to the kitchen. I bend down so he can get off my back. He goes to the little table we have for him and Aurora. He sits down and turn on some music just as Bellamy joins us. I take Kensi from his arms and he lets Aurora down.
"So do we want blueberry pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes still?" I ask as they start working on their morning puzzle. They do one every morning, but for today we got them a brand new one.
"Yeah." Aurora answers for them both without looking away from the puzzle.
"Good idea on the puzzle." Bellamy says while pulling me into his arms so that my back is against him. He kisses my neck. I lean back against him and sigh. After a few minutes of just standing and watching the twins work together Kensi starts to fuss.
"How about I go feed her and you start?" I ask as I pull away from him.
"Or how about we drop them off at your mother's and we go on a mini vacation." He kisses my neck. This makes me miss when it was just the two of us, not that I'd give our kids up to go back to it. But every once in a while I would love to go on a vacation for a couple of days.
"As tempting as that is I think we should stick to the plan, but they are sleeping over with O tonight so we have that." I give him a meaningful look and head to the living room to feed Kensi.
Kensi falls asleep after we finish so I quietly walk her up the stairs and put her in her crib. I turn on the monitor and brush the blonde hair out of her face before closing the door and going down stairs.
"Just in time. We're ready to eat." Bellamy says when I walk into the kitchen. "Now for the birthday kids we have the special plates."
He picks up the plates that have their names written on them. Jasper made them last year at one of those paint your own plate things. Jake's has a picture of a green dinosaur while Aurora's is a blue dinosaur.
"Mine is bigger." Jake says when he sees his pancakes.
"Na-uh. Mine is." Aurora sticks her tongue out.
"They're the same. Now what do you say?" I ruffle their hair.
"Thank you Daddy." They say together and then go back to bickering.
"Ready to eat?" Bellamy asks and holds out a blueberry pancake in the shape of a heart.
"You are such a girl." I tease him and then give him a hug.
"That's the last time I do something nice for you." He whispers with laughter in his voice.
"You always say that."
"What can I say? I'm a sucker for those blue eyes of yours." He looks down into my eyes and kisses me.
My phone ringing makes me pull away from him. The ringtone tells me who it is, but I have no idea why they'd be calling me.
"Kids, stay in here okay. Mommy and Daddy will be right back." I say and see in Bellamy's eyes that he knows who is calling too.
"Okay." They mumble with mouths full.
"What is it?" I say into the phone once we're in the living room.
"Hello Clarke. I'm good and how are you?" The voice on the other line isn't who I thought it would be.
"Emerson?" I ask and Bellamy's eyes widen with a mix of fear and anger. He snatches the phone from my hand and puts it to his ear.
