GUARDIANS OF POKEMON
Disclaimer: No, I don't own Pokemon or any of its characters. Any original characters are mine, however.
Seventeen legendary guardians
possessing powers far beyond comprehension
will soon arise and protect the world from a deadly force...
"To Misty. I hope we can be friends forever. Signed, Mitsumi." Misty's tears fell onto the photo that Mitsumi had given her as a gift before she died. Misty yelled, "No! You're all lying! I bet that you just set this whole news about her death up! That's right! You're just trying to prove a point to me!" She hollered around the room, "Okay, Mitsumi! That wasn't funny. You can come out now." She looked at the others and said, "Guys?" Ash touched Misty's shoulder and said, "I only wish we were that clever. You were the one who was with Mitsumi right before this happened. You should know exactly what happened." Misty recalled the events leading up to this moment. She was chasing a Hoppip blown away by the wind on a rainy day. She chased it into a road where a large truck came straight for her. Mitsumi had saved her and revealed Ash's plan to get the two to become friends. Misty had then knocked Mitsumi down and left her on the road, where a truck likely ran her over. She put her hands over her face and cried, "What have I done?"
#56: GHOUL IN THE SCHOOL
The Guardians stood silently for a few minutes. Finally, they left Ash to be alone in his dorm room. As Misty walked out, she turned around and saw Ash sitting alone on his bed. She walked over to him and said, "I know this is a tough time. It is for the both of us, but I'm sure we can move on." Ash looked at Misty as several tears fell down his face. He said, "Misty, you hated Mitsumi since day one. I know you wanted her to die, and now she did. Are you happy?" Misty didn't reply as Ash asked, "Misty, are you happy?!"
Misty left Ash's dorm room and whispered, "I'm sorry, Mitsumi. My wish was to have you killed. Why? Because I hated you. I hated you for taking my Ash away." She then smirked, "I'm such a fool. Who am I to call him my Ash? If anything, I don't deserve someone like him."
Green found Misty mourning on the couch and sweatdropped, "What is it now, tomboy? More angst?" Misty cried, "I don't need any of your sympathy. I was the one who let her die. I didn't pick her up from the road before she was hit by the truck. It's my fault!" Green couldn't stand seeing Misty like this and said, "Listen, I hate to tell you this, but do you believe in a little thing called fate? I'm sure that Mitsumi chick would have died anyway. You know? Maybe she was destined to die that day, whether or not you helped her." Misty looked up and asked, "Do you really think so?" Green smirked, "Besides, now that she's out of the way, Ash can't date her anymore!" Misty threw a pillow at Green's face.
Ash went outside and walked around Puzzle League Village to clear his thoughts. Passing the photo booth where he and Mitsumi took pictures, he was reminded of Mitsumi's inviting smile. He then shook his head and thought, "No! You're supposed to be forgetting about her!" He passed Puzzle Plaza and was reminded of the argument between Misty and Mitsumi with Mitsumi, of course, trying to take no part in it. He scratched his hair and shouted, "Why can't I forget about her?!" Ash ran back to the school, where he found the field where he and Mitsumi had taken part in a puzzle contest. He sighed, "Why can't I forget about her? Did I?... No... I couldn't have loved her that much..." He closed his eyes and all he could think about was Mitsumi.
Ash ran quickly through the halls of the school to get back into his dorm. He yelled, "What I need is a rest! That's the only way I'll forget about Mitsumi." He ran so quickly that he had not been looking at where he was going. He bumped into a girl who dropped her glasses from the shock. Ash was reminded of the first time he had met Mitsumi and ran yelling, "Aah!" The girl yelled, "Hey! Aren't you going to help me?"
Slowing down at the dorm, Ash opened his dorm room and panted, "I'm glad that walk's over." He looked at the room expecting Mitsumi to greet him with a friendly smile. Instead, he faced an empty room causing nothing but sadness. Ash finally came to a realization, "I truly loved Mitsumi... And now that she's gone, I just now realized that I took her presence for granted." He began to cry again and scolded himself, "No, Ash! You have to move on!"
Ash looked outside the window thinking of Mitsumi. Suddenly, a long haired figure appeared on the window as he gasped, "Aah!" He turned around, then quickly looked back again. Nothing was there except for the sky. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He said, "That's it... I'm losing it!"
Todd heard a knock on his door and answered it to find Ash. Ash said, "Quick, Todd! You have to lend me your camera!" Todd asked, "Why?" Ash said, "Listen, you may not believe me, but I just saw Mitsumi outside the window!" Todd asked, "You mean you saw a dead body outside the window of your second story dorm room and you want to use my camera to take pictures of her?" Ash nodded. Todd said, "Alright, but don't break my camera." Todd handed Ash his camera.
Ash laid in his bed wide awake. He thought, "Sure, I may be paranoid right now, but I'm sure I saw Mitsumi. That's right! I saw her, and I don't care what anyone else says! She's still alive, and I can prove it!" A light flashed in his window as he gasped, "It's her!" Ash looked outside and found Brock and Dash in a helicopter. Dash yelled, "Hey, bro! You wouldn't happen to know where the pool was?" Brock said, "No! We know where the pool is. We're supposed to ask him how to drive a helicopter." Dash called out, "Oh, never mind!" Suddenly, the helicopter flew away quickly. Ash sweatdropped, "Well, that ruined the atmosphere..."
Ash turned around and fell on the bed sighing, "I guess I won't see her again... Oh Mitsumi..." He fell asleep disappointed. As he slept, he dreamnt of Mitsumi. She appeared to him as a transparent figure. Ash said, "Oh, Mitsumi! I knew you were alive!" Mitsumi shook her head and held a finger to her mouth indicating to hush. She then instructed Ash to follow her into a giant tower. Ash asked, "Where are you taking me, Mitsumi? Where is this?" Mitsumi opened the door, and a bright light flashed in Ash's eyes.
Suddenly, Ash woke up and gasped, "Mitsumi!" He took one last look at Mitsumi's stuff still in his dorm, then ran out. He thought, "I have to find Mitsumi in the large tower!" He ran out of Puzzle League Village and said, "And I know just where to look!"
Ash made it to Lavender Town and ran into Pokemon Tower. Inside, he yelled, "Mitsumi!" Ash saw a spirit of a woman floating in the center. As she turned around, Ash recognized the face and gasped, "Mitsumi!" Suddenly, Mitsumi disappeared and a cloaked man appeared in the center of the tower. Ash gasped, "Who are you?!" The cloaked man said, "Curious, aren't we?" He snapped his fingers and the doors of the tower suddenly closed.
"What are you doing?!" yelled Ash. The cloaked man said, "Nothing, but I thought you'd be smarter than that..." Ash asked, "What do you mean by that?" The cloaked man said, "You're trapped... in the world of the dead! Did you think that I closed the door for no reason?" Ash gasped and ran back to the door trying to open it. The door didn't budge as he yelled, "Psychic Scepter Power! Super Psychic Scepter Extermination!" The cloaked man blocked the attack with a barrier.
Ash gasped, "No..." The cloaked man laughed, "Yes!" Suddenly, the corpses of the dead Pokemon rose from the graves as lifeless bodies of dirt. Ash yelled, "Super Psychic Scepter Extermination!" Ash couldn't reach all enemies at once. He thought, "Great... I'm trapped."
Suddenly, a spirit grabbed him and brought him upstairs. Ash could barely make out the ghostly figure and asked, "Mitsumi?" Mitsumi smiled and nodded, "Hello, Ash." Ash yelled, "What are you doing here? If you're alive, then you should come back! Everyone misses you at the university." Mitsumi said, "Oh no, I am certainly dead." Ash asked, "Then why is your spirit still here?" Mitsumi asked, "Have you ever heard about wandering spirits? Those that remain walking on Earth because they have a purpose to fulfill? I cannot leave this world without completing my purpose in life."
The cloaked man blasted the floor beneath them as Ash asked, "Then what is your purpose?" Mitsumi looked at him and smiled, "Haven't you figured it out yet?" The cloaked man walked slowly towards Ash and Mitsumi. Mitsumi started to emit a bright white aura and instinctively yelled, "Ghost Power!" The blurry symbol of an apparition appeared on her white clothing. Ash gasped, "Mitsumi? Are you really a Guardian?" Mitsumi said, "In the flesh... or at least I wish I had some."
The cloaked man released a huge energy wave as Mitsumi yelled, "Holy Blast!" The cloaked man gasped, "What the?!" A blast of white light radiated throughout the entire tower destroying the cloaked man's barrier in the process. He yelled, "What have you done?" Mitsumi smiled and said, "Just fulfilling my purpose!" The cloaked man fled from the tower. Ash then said to Mitsumi, "Wow, Mitsumi. That was awesome... no... greater than awesome!" Mitsumi blushed, "Oh Ash. You have the same powers, don't you?" Ash said, "Yes, but..."
Mitsumi walked downstairs and looked at the huge door blocking the exit of the tower. She asked, "Is this what's blocking our escape from this tower of the dead?" Ash nodded as Mitsumi yelled, "Holy Blast!" The door disappeared in a bright light. Ash said, "Well, Mitsumi. Now that you're back, let's go back to the dorm..." Mitsumi said, "But... Ash. I'm only a spirit. I'm not inclined to leave here." Ash sighed, "But Mitsumi... There has to be a way... I know!"
Ash called Professor Oak on his Seeker. Professor Oak woke up and answered the call yelling, "Ash! Do you know what time it is?! Shouldn't you be sleeping for finals and all that school junk?" Ash sweatdropped, "Sorry, Professor, but we just found our Ghost Guardian, but unfortunately, she's kind of dead..." Professor Oak asked, "How can someone be kind of dead?" Ash showed Mitsumi on the screen as Oak said, "So she's a spirit, you say. Ironically enough, since she is the Ghost Guardian, there is a chance that we can revive her." Ash asked, "Really? How?" Oak yelled, "Will you wait until tomorrow morning?! Like when Jupei is awake?" Ash nodded, "Right. If it's okay with you Mitsumi." Mitsumi said, "Oh, I don't mind."
The next day, Ash gathered all the Guardians. Misty gasped, "But how can it be?" Ash said, "Well, Mitsumi turned out to be the Ghost Guardian, even though she is a ghost now herself." Dash gasped, "The Ghost Guardian? You?!" Brock laughed, "Ha ha, you know what that means." Dash shrugged as he gave Brock a wad of Pokeyen. Dash sighed, "Mitsumi, why couldn't you have turned out to be evil?" Mitsumi confusedly smiled.
Jupei said, "Alright, everyone, if you'd all shut up, we can get the revival underway. Now, Mitsumi, you're going to have to concentrate really hard..." He looked at everyone else in the room and said, "So everyone else had better be quiet." Mitsumi started to meditate as Jupei said, "Repeat after me slowly..." Mitsumi nodded as Jupei said, "Spirit Revive!" Piece by piece, Mitsumi's flesh returned to her soul. Soon, Mitsumi was completely alive and breathing again.
Misty ran to Mitsumi and hugged her. Misty cried, "Mitsumi! I'm glad you're back!" Mitsumi said, "As am I, Misty." Ash smiled and said, "Mitsumi! Welcome back to the living!" Suddenly, as Mitsumi hugged Ash, she felt faint and collapsed. Ash gasped, "Mitsumi?"
Dash said, "Wait, so logically, I could kill myself right now, and Mitsumi could just revive me?" Sakura yelled, "That's not funny!" Oak talked to Brock on his Seeker and said, "No, you numbskull! I know I haven't explained this, but the stronger the move you use, the more energy it will drain from your life. Mitsumi's Spirit Revive, in particular is probably the strongest and most useful move that she'll ever have. The problem is that every time she uses it, about a fourth of her life energy will be drained." Ash gasped, "And that's why she fainted just now..." Misty gasped, "Then that means... she can only use the Spirit Revive four times in total." Oak nodded, "And this if presumably her first time... If she fails to conserve her energy doing revives, then she'll eventually end up dying again." Mitsumi got up again as Ash asked, "Mitsumi? Did you hear that?" Mitsumi said, "Yes, I understand the rules. Don't worry. If we're careful, I won't have to use it again..." She stood back up and tried to regain her balance.
Dash yelled, "What?! So, that means that every time I use an attack, my life gets shortened a little? That's it, I'm quitting..." Oak sweatdropped, "You should have just killed yourself." Dash said, "Hey, Oak. I was just joking. I'd never leave you guys." He started laughing, which caused everyone else to laugh. Mitsumi smiled at Misty in particular. Misty smiled back.

Preview of Next Episode:
Green: It's the end of the school year, so you know what that means.
Misty: Finals?
Green: No! I meant, the prom.
Misty: I wonder who Ash will take.
Mitsumi: Yes, I wonder as well.
Ash: Guardians of Pokemon #57: A Three Way Prom-ise.
Author's Notes: Well, apparently, by the last episode, many of you had already gotten a hunch that she was going to become a Guardian. I slowly tried to drop in hints, and by the end, it was pretty much obvious. Something subtle you may not have gotten though has something to do with the number of the newest Guardian. Go ahead, think about it...
Let's see... Other business... Actually, Moo, the review count for me isn't the same number as the one in the actual story for some reason. Apparently, I had seen it as 99 reviews when you posted, but anyway... Congratulations to Moo for submitting the 100th review! Oh yeah, and congratulations to this story for achieving that many!
Moving on, that's two out of three gladdecease. And in response to your question, Star AJT 84... yes, it is possible that Mitsumi could be a Guardian. :)
Finally, if you're going to mindlessly bash my fic without any proper reason in doing so, then there's no reason I have to listen to you, let alone leave your review on my fic. Since I know you're not reading this, as you haven't read any of the chapters because according to you, Pokemon is dumb (yet you read a Pokemon fic), I don't really know why I have to address this to the "anonymous" reviewer.
Anyway, to everyone else, (you know who you are) thanks for reviewing!
Until next time!
